[Elecraft] KPA100 D1-D8 voltages
I've completed construction of my KPA100 and am doing final voltage checks listed in the manual on p.46. My KPA100 as bought was a rev. C kit, but prior to construction I purchased parts to build it as a rev. D. Apparently I was not thorough enough in annotating my manual, as I was looking for the high voltage from the bias supply at the cathode of D13, but in the rev. D manual, the test point is changed to the junction of C77 and R11. Before realizing this, I had the heat sink removed and was testing voltage on D1-D8. Although the voltage at junction of C77 and R11 was within spec, many of the voltages at D1-D8 are significantly different from the tables in the manual. I don't know if I should be concerned about this or not since the final high voltage is within spec (now that I'm measuring at the right test point), as is the negative supply for the RS-232. Here's a list of my measurements at D1-D8. Spec Mine Diode Anode Cathode Anode Cathode D132130 21.1 138 D28432 89.0 20.9 D32184 18.1 88.7 D43621 38.2 17.1 D52436 15.9 38.2 D613.7 24 13.5 16.0 D7-22 -8.8-24.1 -1.1 D8-8.8 0 -1.1 0 Any insight would be appreciated. -Ben K1NT ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] KPA100 D1-D8 voltages
Ben, THose voltages are not 'spec', but they are guidelines for troubleshooting. The oscillator activity will vary a lot from one unit to another, and a 10% variation either way from the values stated is usually OK - The important voltages are at the D1 cathode and the D7 anode. Two points - 1) there is a new Diode voltage chart in the current level errata sheet - download it and use that chart. 2) is the R4 value on your KPA100 board 100k? If not change it to 100k and that will drop your D1-D8 voltages down a bit if your current R4 value is 39k. 73, Don W3FPR > -Original Message- > I don't know if I should be concerned about this or > not since the final high voltage is within spec (now > that I'm measuring at the right test point), as is the > negative supply for the RS-232. RE: [Elecraft] K2 noise
Hans, That effect can happen if your IF filter alignment is way off. I suggest aligning the filters using Spectrogram. See the information for doing that on the Builders Resouce section of the Elecraft website or look at the K2 Dial Calibration article on my website http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com . When you are finished aligning the filters, you can observe the AF content of an actual received signal with Spectrogram and determine if you still have a problem. 73, Don W3FPR > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Hans Johansson > Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:34 PM > To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net > Subject: [Elecraft] K2 noise > > > I have a problem with my K2. [Elecraft] 160m alignment
Gents, I'm having difficulty getting decent power output across the whole of the 160m band, I can tune up the bandpass filter to get 15 watts at any point on the band but the level drops very quickly as I tune either side of the peaked frequency. As an example If I peak up at 1900Khz I have under 2 watts output at the band edges and a corresponding loss of receive sensitivity. The performance on 80m is up to spec. so I am guessing that this excludes a problem with L3 or L4. Yes I've checked the component values & soldering to no avail so am looking to the list for inspiration. [Elecraft] KPA100 D13 Cathode High Voltage
All, I performed the voltage checks at the KPA100 Test Points as stated on page 43 of the KPA100 manual (rev. C, Feb. 11, 2004). The D13 cathode should have a voltage between 90 and 150 volts; the measured voltage is 175 volts, which seems a little high. Also, the voltage measured at U4 pin is -30 volts, but the manual indicates the voltage range should be between -5 and -25 volts. Consulted the schematic and it appears as if the voltage from pin 8 of U4 supplies the High Voltage Bias Supply circuit. Mesaured the voltage at C44 as 45 volts, but schematic indicates it should be 30 volts. Is 175 volts too high a voltage at the D13 cathode? R4 is 39K. RE: [Elecraft] KPA100 D13 Cathode High Voltage
Michael, change R4 to 100K. That change is necessary to keep from applying excessive voltage to some components in the KPA100. Your amplifier may work for indefinitely with the higher voltage (or not), but you are over-stressing some parts. [Elecraft] K2 Frequency Stability and Invitation to DC Area K2 Owners
I've posted two series of frequency stability measurements for my K2 (SN 5689) that might be of interest to the group. The data can be seen at http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/Updates.htm under the 11 January 2007 entry. I also wonder if there are any Washington DC area K2 owners that would be interested in seeing how their K2 measures in my basement lab. I'm in Fairfax County Virginia and would be interested in looking at receiver sensitivity and transmitted emissions, although we can measure other things as well. (Power measurements included, although accurately measuring RF output power is a non-trivial task.) [Elecraft] Another newbie question, Control Board checks
So I just finished the control board, and went through the resistance checks. My measurements for U6 pins 29 and 30 both read infinite (or very, very large resistance, basically my VOM is in out of range). They're supposed to be 70-90k. I've been extremely careful with U6, always have my static wrist strap on, etc. All the other resistance checks are ok. I know there's not much connected to 29 and 30. I've also reversed my VOM leads, same difference. Should I worry about this one, or is that somewhat normal? Reading the backissues of the reflector I see others that have gotten values in range, so it makes me think something's bogus. Ideas? Where to start looking? Thanks for any ideas... -J ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. RE: [Elecraft] Re: Another newbie question, Control Board checks
Jeff, First thing to check is your DMM. If it is in Auto-range, it may produce 'strange' readings for you under some conditions - switch it to manual ranging and set the range for something above 100k, then try again. If you still have extremely high resistance at those pins, check the soldering at RP4 and the U6 pins. 73, Don W3FPR > -Original Message- > On 1/11/07, Jeff Kinzli <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > So I just finished the control board, and went through the > resistance checks. > > > > My measurements for U6 pins 29 and 30 both read infinite (or very, > > very large resistance, basically my VOM is in out of range). [Elecraft] XV50 problem is worst ! Need help.
Hi to all, Last week, my transverter XV50 was unable to receive properly... Only a small voice in the background... no S unit... the guy normally give me 10 or 20 over S9... After a new alignment procedure, I was unable to peak R13 to the desired level. I was unable to get more than 0.043 V. So my conclusion was that Q3 is dead. I received a new Q3 transistor. Now it is installed. I did another alignement. Now with Q3, I can peak R13 very easy to the target of 250mV. Note that before and now, my TX is still perfect. So no trouble with TX. But even after Q3 changed it is worst. I do not receive anything at all... not even a small voice in the background. If I listen to the background noise with or without antenna, it is the same. On the receiver input aligment, my noise generator did not make any difference ON or OFF. So I really don't know where to start now. I don't have very much experience in finding trouble. Hi Jean, First of all, I have to admit that I am not an expert and would suggest you contact Gary of Elecraft. From what you describe, you are ok on tx. Then you should concentrate yourself on RX route. Check all the soldering points around U1and K2 areas first and then followed by later stages in the RX route e.g. ADEX-10H etc If you have a good attentuator such as AT1, input a weak weak 50Mhz signal (or noise generator) at the antenna port J1 via the RF attentuator. Use another 50mhz receiver with a RF probe to trace the signal along the RX path to see whether there is a break in the signal path. Please refer to Appendix B- trouble shooting of the XV owners manual. 73 Johnny VR2XMC From: Jean-Franois Mnard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] XV50 problem is worst ! Need help. Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2007 22:44:17 -0500 Could someone give me the voltage that should be read of each legs of Q3, U1 and Z1 on RX please ?!?!? Le 07-01-11 21:25, Siu Johnny a 茅crit : Hi Jean, First of all, I have to admit that I am not an expert and would suggest you contact Gary of Elecraft. Remember, use an RF attentuator in front of the antenna port 73 Johnny VR2XMC _ 与联机的朋友进行交流,请使用 Live Messenger; http://get.live.com/messenger/overview ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] K2 #05386 has developed a problem
Hi, My K2, recently completed, has developed a 'howl' on the 14MHz band. I had finished the rig and got it tweaked and performing very well, even making a contact with K6STA on 20 meters (He gave me 579) I then constructed the KIO2 and got it working with my logging program (tlf). The KIO2 began to malfunction, so I took it out and re-did the wiring on the aux board. I replaced it and it seemed to be fine except for a brief glitch. Then I noticed that there was a 'howl' all across the 14MHz band, but not on any other band. I removed the KIO2 and set up the rig. The howl was still there, exactly as before. What could have happened? I noticed that touching the leads of R24 or R25 modified the noise, but that's about what I know. The noise covers the whole band as far as I tuned. Anybody got a suggestion for how I should start troubleshooting?
