Re: [Elecraft] [K3] CW/PTT/VOX

2008-06-07 Thread Alexandr Kobranov

Hello Jean,
see in text:

Jean-Claude Abauzit napsal(a):
The way the K3 behave seems absolutely normal. You cannot have your cake
and eat it.

To be able to send CW while in SSB the rig has to be in VOX mode.
When PTT is engaged you must first press the PTT to transmit and if the
rig is in SSB mode it will transmit in SSB.
I have a question: is the PTT/VOX setting mode specific? Can you have
PTT in SSB and VOX in CW?

Yes, the PTT/VOX setting is mode dependent - you can choose it per mode...
My FT-897 is set that way: PTT for SSB and VOX for CW. If I listen in
SSB and want to transmit CW - for example when a weak station does not
hear me - I just hit the paddles. To trasmit in SSB I press the foot
switch. I am not a fan of VOX in SSB.

Correct :-)
(Keep in mind if using Key out for keying up linears or transverters
that there is Key out activated even if you have no VOX active just by
hitting the Key. So name of the port is correct - it is Key out no PTT
out :-)
So in total PTT mode (PTT for all modes) and in SSB it is activated
only by hitting the Key. NO RF IS GOING OUT - it is OK, but realays in
the rest of system - using Key out as T/R control - are activated.)

If I wanted to use PTT to switch an amplifier SSB and CW would have to
use the PTT mode and I would lose the auto CW feature, nothing I could
do about it.
No, just define VOX/QSK for CW mode and switch to SSB, on SSB you can
have PTT mode and Auto-CW will run correctly using CW QSK settings.

In 2.02 working fine as I tried.

[Elecraft] K2 - frequency control

2008-06-07 Thread Nick Henwood
I have just started to notice a click and a very small jump in frequency every
5 kHz on my K2. For example I find it on 30M:
10105.78
10110.78
10115.78
10120.87 (etc)

on 40M it appears:
7034.3
7029.93
7024.93 (etc)

Is this something that has always been there which I have just noticed ? I can
work round it but would prefer not to. As usual I run the risk here of exposing
my ignorance so please be kind if the answer is obvious!

[Elecraft] K3 Beta Firmware Revision 2.02

2008-06-07 Thread Dave G4AON
"Channel hopping" doesn't seem to offer anything useful to me. It would
have been nice if rotating VFO A not only displayed the frequency stored
but instantly assigned it to a VFO so the K3 could be used in the same
manner as a crystal controlled transceiver (without having to press M-V
again). As the K3 lacks a V/M switch, I guess it will not operate in a
channelised manner any time soon.

K3 beta-test firmware revision 2.02 is now available. It includes one
new feature (channel hopping, especially useful on 60 meters) and a
correction to CW/VOX behavior.

[Elecraft] K3 KXV3 Issue

2008-06-07 Thread Mike Fatchett W0MU
I finally started building my kit and have run across a small issue.

I am to the stage where I need to install the KXV3 transverter board. The
pictures show two bushings that appear to be soldered onto the board so that
you can tighten down the board to the rear panel. The bushings appear to
provide about a 1/2 inch of separation between the rear panel and the KXV3
board. My board does not have these two bushings. Has this been eliminated
from the build?

The kit was sent to me around the end of April.

Everything else has gone together great.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement

2008-06-07 Thread Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
   This week the lupine have begun to bloom lower down the mountain. The false
Solomon's seal are in full bloom up here while they are waning down below. 40
meters has been very active each day from 2000z onward. There are a few
operators who enjoy running QRQ. It is fun to listen to them chatter away.
Twenty meters has shown some activity but it has not been as good this week. I
have been busy banging away on projects so have not done more than listen. If
everyone simply listens by definition the band is dead. I will never know who
may have responded if I had called CQ.
   Today, on my way to town, I saw a doe and then her two fawns. They were the
tiniest I had ever seen. I don't think either of them was 18 inches at the
head! They knew just what to do when mom turned around and walked off the
road. She must have been feeding them when I disturbed her. It was about 2 PM
which is not a normal time to see deer since they are crepuscular by nature.
However, the road is not very active on the weekend so they may have been
bedding close to the spring which lies near the road at that point.

Please join us tomorrow evening.

Interesting, since MCU version 2.00 already,it is possible to use the
front panel buttons RX ant, PRE, ATT, XFIL AFX while in TX Mode!

The filter settings cannot be yet changed however.

Very useful addition, however no feedback is provided when a key is
pressed during TX - it all happens when the rig passes in RX mode. I got
surprised to hear all of a sudden a relay click when my K3 passed in RX
mode. It was the RX Ant relay after I had pressed the RX Ant button
during TX mode :-)

Thank you once more Elecraft!

[Elecraft] Microkeyer II and K3

2008-06-07 Thread cptpatmcd

I know several of you out there have this set up, and this has been my second
biggest purchase since the K3. Only problem is, it's been no where near the
'plug and play' that everyone else says it's supposed to be. Part of that
is my fault, I'm running windows XP under VMware - but I cant trace this
problem to that:

Instead of sending dashes, my K3 sends three dit's. The cw light on the
mkII indicates it's sending a dash- but that's not what the K3 hears
apparently.

RIght now I've tried each setting on PTT selector but to no avail. I'd ask
on the MKII yahoo group, but it's down right now (or it is to my computer).

Re: [Elecraft] [K3]cw/vox/2.02

2008-06-07 Thread Ken K3IU

Hi again, Dick:

Bet you didn't think of this...

If you want to operate ssb with a foot switch PTT and have CW available
at the touch of a key, leave the K3 in VOX mode, lower the vox gain so
that vox does not operate (if you use the foot switch, you don't need
any VOX gain), then if you want to send CW in the middle of a SSB
event, simply start tapping on the paddle without asserting PTT via the
foot switch. If you hold the footswitch closed, then the CW won't send.
Of course, you have to set this up on CONFIG:CW WGHT.

It works... just tried it :-)

To have CW in SSB mode (if switched on in Menu) you need to have at
first VOX/QSK active in CW mode then in SSB mode you are able to send
CW just by hitting the Key. It is my experience not tested yet with 2.02

I'm not ambiguous, you are! :) "PTT ground" is ambiguous, and implies
that it goes somewhere and eventually finds the chassis. I'm talking the
CHASSIS. Period.

The shield should be connected STRAIGHT to the CHASSIS, not to something
that is connected to the chassis. That "connected to" covers a multitude
of sins -- like a circuit trace that several inches to a phone jack
that's screwed to the chassis. That trace has inductance, and the voltage
drop across that inductance causes mischief!

>Elecraft connect the mic return to chassis inside the K3 *BUT*

Yes, they do, and I have a BIG problem with that. I had that discussion
with Wayne about three years ago. I'm not at all happy with the audio
interface on the K3. For one thing, those transformers are unshielded,
and pick up hum from power transformers nearby (like the power supply for
my power amp, which right under the operating desk). There's low level
hum when my line input is turned on (so I can playback contest messages
from the computer, or send AFSK). The hum is there with or without a
cable plugged in. This hum pickup is so bad on my neighbor's K3 that it
regenerates to full power! I suspect he has an unusually strong magnetic
field.

The one saving grace of what they are doing with the shield is that it is
also bypassed to the KIO audio daughterboard. It isn't clear to me how
the bypass capacitors on that daugherboard gets to the chassis. If it's a
short (small fraction of an inch), great. If it isn't, it's a potential
RFI problem, especially at higher frequencies. A clue (not an encouraging
one) -- the retaining screws for the DB connectors are 8 ohms off of the
chassis of the radio! Not a good thing! I haven't measured the audio
daughterboard chassis, but I suspect the same problem there. So far, I
have not had RF feedback problems, but my QTH is not challenging in that
regard -- only my 160M vertical is closer to the radio than 100 ft.

>The best solution for all amateurs is to connect the mic return
>pin on the mic connector to the shell to tie both mic return and
>shield to the chassis by the lowest possible resistance path.

The cable shield must go to the chassis. If that is the mic return, so be
it. BUT it doesn't help if the shell isn't connected to the chassis! I
use an EV RE16 with my ham rigs (a balanced dynamic mic). The shield goes
to the connector shell, the mic lines go to the mic input and the mic
return. My Yaesu FT1000MP has a pin 1 problem at its mic input that
causes it to have RF feedback on 15M and 75M. I can measure that pin 1
problem by the test method shown in my AES paper on the topic, and,
indeed, it peaks on 15M and a bit above 75M. That paper is on my website.

Putting it simply, MANY ham rigs are built with pin 1 problems. That is,
they have a design flaw that causes hum, buzz, and RFI when we connect
cables to them.

73,

Jim Brown K9YC

to us a 3/16" pan head screw for the transistors? Measure the pan head screw
length (which does not include the pan head) to see if perhaps you're trying to
fit a 3/16" screw there.

A 1/4" pan head screw looks a lot like a 3/16" screw. Be sure to use the 1/4"
ones only in the spots specified.

I am on page 55 of the K3 Assembly manual and everything has gone fine until
now. I am putting the bottom covers on and am unable to get the back cover
on properly. The problem is properly installing the ¼” Black pan screws
(with tooth lock washer) over the three power transistors. The screws are
apparently to short as things stand. I can’t even get them to begin
threading. The transistors have ¼” standoffs under the transistor screw
holes. I am overlooking simple I am sure.

The remaining stanoffs on the RF board that attach to the bottom cover are
¼” and have tooth lock washers. HELP!!! Paul NN5G

[Elecraft] K3 Beta Firmware Revision 2.02

2008-06-07 Thread wayne burdick
K3 beta-test firmware revision 2.02 is now available. It includes one
new feature (channel hopping, especially useful on 60 meters) and a
correction to CW/VOX behavior. Full details appear below.

For instructions on how to obtain and load beta firmware, please see:

  http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm

Please send any problem reports to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

73,
Wayne
N6KR

* * *

MCU 2.02, 6-7-08

* VOX SWITCH NOW FUNCTIONS CORRECTLY IN CW MODE. When VOX is OFF in
  CW mode, transmit must be enabled via XMIT or PTT rather than just
hitting the key.

* MEMORY-BASED CHANNEL HOPPING (for 60 m in particular): This now works
  as described in the K3 Owner’s Manual (rev C., page 37). You can
manually ‘hop’
  with VFO A, or scan channels. First, store the desired channels in
adjacent memories.
  For example, you might set up 60-m channels in memories 61-65 (5330.5
kHz, etc.).
  Next, change the first label character in each of these memories to
an asterisk (*) as
  described in the manual. (The first memory above and below your
channel-hop group
  must either have no asterisk in their first label position, or be on
different bands.)
  Finally, tap M->V and select any one of these memories. Manual
rotation of VFO A
  and scanning will then use only the memories in the group. To return
to normal operation,
  use any of the VFO rate switches, or change bands. NOTE: A future
revision will allow

  FM channel hopping based on squelch activity.

  SCANNING TIP: On a noisy band, scanning may pause too often. Try
using a narrower
  filter, turning the preamp off, or backing down RF GAIN until the
scan starts.

RE: [Elecraft] K3 serial no. 997

2008-06-07 Thread Dick Dievendorff
Hi, Garry.

The microphone connector pinout is shown on page 13 of the K3 Owner's
manual. The index topic is "Front Panel Connectors". Here is the
description from the owner's manual:

1 Mic audio, low-Z (~600 ohms)
2 PTT
3 DOWN button*
4 UP button*
5 FUNCTION button*
6 8V (10 mA max)
7, 8 Ground

I don't own the microphone you mention, but some of the pins appear to be
connected as expected, but I'm not sure about pin 6, which is "Rev Audio" on
the MC-60 microphone connection layout I found.

The MC-60 is a "dynamic" microphone, and you probably want bias off for that
sort of microphone.

As for amplifier switching, it depends on what kind of amplifier you have.
The K3's Key Out line is described on page 17 of the owner's manual. The Key
Out line is specified to switch up to 200V DC at up to 5 Amps, so maybe your
AmpKeyer isn't required if your amp's T/R relay switching line is within
these limits.

I very much enjoyed the build and really like the rig but I am having

included. I do have an MC-60 which is supposed to be pin for pin
compatable with the K3 but I cannot get much output swing on the

lots of output on CW but the out put is low on SSB

I know others have had issues with this but I don't seem to find any
solutions in the archhives. I wonder if someone with an MC-60 that
has successfully set the rig up could please email me and perhaps
compare notes? I would sure appreciate it. My emails should show up
at the beginning of this post. If not I can post it on here.

Also. I'm wondering what to use to key the amp. I have an Ampkeyer
for interface. Does a guy just use the switchable 12 volts for that?

Thanks in advance.

RE: [Elecraft] K3 help

2008-06-07 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
Hi Paul:

1: Is the LPA fully seated in the RF board? NO pins should show between the
halves of the connectors on the LPA and RF board. Obviously, if it's not
fully seated that will raise up the transistors and the screws might not
reach.

2: Are you *sure* you have 1/4" screws for those three? They are awfully
close to the 3/16" used elsewhere, and for the most part you could use a
1/4" screw elsewhere and not notice, until you needed them to secure those
transistors.

Hi Simon
Don't have the article in front of me, but if
it says what I think it does, we used that technique
back in the 60's when I ran a Heathkit SB100

was nearly always spot on their frequency.
Worked really well.

Your description says the very same thing as I did ... mic wires
floating with the shield connected directly to the chassis.

The point is that Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood and Heil all float the
mic return above the chassis and then connect the shield of the
mic cable to the floated mic return! The shield should be
connected to the PTT return - which is connected to the chassis.

Elecraft connect the mic return to chassis inside the K3 *BUT*
Pins 7 and 8 (PTT and mic return) have series chokes which result
in about 5 Ohms of resistance between both pins and the case.
The same is true for the shield/sleeve of the rear panel mic
jack ... the sleeve is floated by an RF choke with about 5 Ohms
of DC resistance.

The best solution for all amateurs is to connect the mic return
pin on the mic connector to the shell to tie both mic return and
shield to the chassis by the lowest possible resistance path.

Subject: [K3] K3 and Logger32 logging program

If you click on a DX spot, or type in the frequency to change to another
band and / or mode and the filters do not switch to the default settings

And you are using Logger32 - Here is the answer to get SSB settings on
SSB, Data settings on Data and CW settings on CW sent to the K3!

In the help file there is a section on the K3, but that is for pre-MCU 2.00.
Here is an update to how it works for MCU 2.00 and above:

Filter selection
The K2 and K3 should always store those filter setting by each mode. If you
select the mode by manually or
clicking DX spot then in the future they will select the filter by stored
setting.
There is another way to select a filter directly from Logger32. Add one or
two of the following section in
the Logger32.ini. “n” in FWn is Filter number of your K2. FW is
the DSP bandwidth on your K3 (see

examples below). The K3 will select the proper first IF (roofing) filter.

For radio 1 (Elecraft) put following lines (Sample for K3)

For K3 below MCU Firmware 2.00
   [Elecraft Filter 1] # This is for Radio 1
   USB=K22; FW1;   # K22; puts the K2 or K3 in 'extended
mode; FWx sets the filter to FLx

   LSB=K22; FW1;
   RTTY=K22; FW2;
   CW=K22; FW2;
For K3 MCU Firmware 2.00 and above
   [Elecraft Filter 1]This is for Radio 1
   USB=K31;FW0270;FW0270; # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0270; is 2700 Hz for the DSP filter
   LSB=K31;FW0260;FW0260; # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0260; is 2600 Hz for the DSP filter
   RTTY=K31;FW0100;FW0100;# K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0100; is 1000 Hz for the DSP filter
   CW=K31;FW0070;FW0070;  # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0070; is 700 Hz for the DSP filter

K3 DSP filter is set to the closest lower 50 Hz. i.e. FW0069; will default
to 650 Hz.

For radio 2 (Elecraft) put following lines (Sample for K2).
   [Elecraft Filter 2]# This is for Radio 2
   USB=K22; FW1;
   LSB=K22; FW2;
   RTTY=K22; FW3;
   CW=K22; FW4;

You may need to repeat the command for certain filter selections, especially
in K3.

   CW=K22; FW2; FW2;

Re: [Elecraft] Kits on a plane question

2008-06-07 Thread Are LB3SA

Three weeks ago I brought home on a plane from Florida to Norway a K2 kit
with all possible option kits except transverter adapter. I packed it all in
my suitcase and never had any problems. I didn't exepct to have any problems
either. As a kit you shouldn't have to worry about documentation for the
FCC.

Alan,

I've taken a K-1 plus many others. All have been small. I opened them all and
put them in 'check-in' luggage. I'd rather open them, then have 'them' do it.
(or them, do it, to it.). They have never opened a kit. The antenna tuner on
the other hand (coil), made them open it.

As I said, all kits have been small, no K3 and all my flights have been
international flights. Domestic flights may be different. Good luck.

[Elecraft] [K3] K3 and Logger32 logging program

2008-06-07 Thread hank k8dd
If you click on a DX spot, or type in the frequency to change to another band
and / or mode and the filters do not switch to the default settings
And you are using Logger32 - Here is the answer to get SSB settings on SSB,
Data settings on Data and CW settings on CW sent to the K3!

Add one or two
of the following section in
the Logger32.ini. “n” in FWn is Filter number of your K2. FW is the
DSP bandwidth on your K3 (see
examples below). The K3 will select the proper first IF (roofing) filter.

For radio 1 (Elecraft) put following lines (Sample for K3)

For K3 below MCU Firmware 2.00
[Elecraft Filter 1] # This is for Radio 1
USB=K22; FW1;   # K22; puts the K2 or K3 in 'extended mode;
 FWx sets the filter to FLx
LSB=K22; FW1;
RTTY=K22; FW2;
CW=K22; FW2;
For K3 MCU Firmware 2.00 and above
[Elecraft Filter 1]This is for Radio 1
USB=K31;FW0270;FW0270; # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0270; is 2700 Hz for the DSP filter
LSB=K31;FW0260;FW0260; # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0260; is 2600 Hz for the DSP filter
RTTY=K31;FW0100;FW0100;# K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0100; is 1000 Hz for the DSP filter
CW=K31;FW0070;FW0070;  # K31; puts the K3 in 'extended mode'
FW0070; is 700 Hz for the DSP filter

K3 DSP filter is set to the closest lower 50 Hz. i.e. FW0069; will default to
650 Hz.

For radio 2 (Elecraft) put following lines (Sample for K2).
[Elecraft Filter 2]# This is for Radio 2
USB=K22; FW1;
LSB=K22; FW2;
RTTY=K22; FW3;
CW=K22; FW4;

You may need to repeat the command for certain filter selections, especially in
K3.
CW=K22; FW2; FW2;

[Elecraft] K3: TX off frequency

2008-06-07 Thread ab2tc

Today, for the first time I got a report claiming I was coming back about
100Hz high in frequency on SSB (USB). I received him spot on at the
frequency he had on his dial and returned to him without any RIT or split
function activated. This was an experienced ham, so this has me concerned. I
have the 2.00 firmware.

RE: [Elecraft] [K3] CW VOX stuck on, v2.0

2008-06-07 Thread Dick Hanson
Round two on this.
After re-reading one earlier post and then looking at what Ken said, I am
going to modify my post.
I thot the problem was that the radio stayed keyed on. I did not/do not have
that problem.
My radio functions exactly as Ken described, which is to say that I have rf
out when keying.with no PTT keyed.

While we're on this subject, I noticed that the delay for tx dropout
(assuming semi break-in/vox mode) changes from ssb to cw.
IOW, say you're on ssb and hit the key to reply to someone calling on cw,
the delay from tx back to rx is pretty short, and bears no resemblance to
what I dialed in on cw. I would have thot that the delays would be/could be
selected separately by mode and then stored in memory. Guess not.

Everything all right *except* in CW mode when I shift from VOX to PTT.
In PTT mode with all known PTT inputs disconnected, keying in CW using
either the internal keyer or an external keyer, causes RF to appear at
the output connector.

Definitely a bug.

I missed the details of exactly what you are trying to connect to what. As I
understand it, you are trying to connect an unbalanced mic to a balanced input.
The proper connection for that is to connect the two mic wires (the hot and the
shield) to the balanced input AND to connect the shield DIRECTLY TO THE CHASSIS
by a very short path.

Many products are manufactured in such a way that what I have described is
difficult -- the shield connection goes to the printed circuit board, wanders
around a while, and eventually finds the chassis. This is called a Pin 1
problem
(because it was first well understood in the pro audio world, and pin 1 is the
shield contact of a pro connector), and it is a MAJOR cause of hum, buzz, and
RFI.

If the cable shield does not go straight to the chassis, it cannot function as
a
shield. If it has a long (inductive) path to the chassis, it provides a VERY
strong path for RFI into the box. See the tutorial on my website, cited in an
earlier email.

That is an improper connection, a violation of AES48, and a
violation of good engineering practice. The ONLY proper connection
of ANY cable shield is to the shielding enclosure. A balanced
input can take (at least) two forms. One is a transformer. The
other is a differential input stage. The mic must be connected to
the two terminals of those inputs, and the shield must go straight
to the chassis, NOT through a choke.

You say "What is happening" -- do you mean that this is wiring
provided by the W2IHY box? If so, I agree it is really bad.

Absolutely -- it is the ONLY right way to connect a cable shield.

WRONG! What you have just described is perfect example of a pin 1
problem, and a VERY common cause of hum, buzz, and RFI.

See AES48. http://www.aes.org/publications/standards/list.cfm

See also the tutorials on my website.

The pro audio world figured this out long ago. Virtually all EMC
authorities agree. It's really sad that hams have kept their heads
in the sand about it.

[Elecraft] [K3] CW VOX stuck on, v1.99 and later.

2008-06-07 Thread Carl Clawson
I keyed my K3 several times into an open connector before I noticed the
"HIGH SWR" warning! I really hate it when that happens. Funny, I had made
sure VOX was off and there was no external PTT before I started warming up
the fist on the paddles. And yes, the PTT setting in the config menu is
OFF-OFF. So if an inadvertent PTT is coming from somewhere else, please tell
me where to look. Maybe I better get in the habit of using TX TEST mode.

I went from V2.00 back to 1.99 and got the same behavior.

However, I went back to 1.96 and now it behaves like it ought. So I'm
thinking "bug".

Good thought, Phil. Actually I have an external speaker plugged in, a NCS 8
ohm, and I did try unplugging the speaker to see what would happen. Same
story - no change in hash. The answer has got to be in the cable itself. If
it's verified with a solution, I can actually have another cable made.

This is not correct. There is nothing wrong with connecting an
unbalanced mic to a balanced input -- you simply unbalance the
input by grounding one side of the input. You lose the benefit of
the balanced circuitry's ability to reject noise, but the input
will work fine. The correct wiring is simply hot to one side,
shield to the other side AND the chassis.

I do have a serious quarrel with the W2IHY equalizer though -- it
is FAR more complex and expensive than needed to get great audio
from a pro mic with a ham rig. All you really need for an
equalizer is a good quality capacitor of suitable value in series
between the mic and the mic input of the radio. The capacitor is
chosen to provide a low frequency rolloff fairly high in the
audio passband. See

http://audiosystemsgroup.com/HamInterfacing.pdf

I have used a circuit like this with an EV RE16 and several rigs.
Total cost about $0.50. It would work equally well with any good
low-Z dynamic mic. I've also changed values in coupling
capacitors in the K2 to achieve the same result, and that works
quite well too. You don't need the capacitor with a K3, of course
-- the equalizer in DSP does the job.

Pro dynamic mics are easily connected to ham rigs -- since
they're balanced, one side of the balanced output goes to the mic
input, the other side goes to audio return, and the shield goes
to the chassis. I've done this quite successfully with an Omni V,
a TS850, and FT1000MP. By successfully, I mean that I get VERY
competitve, clean, contest-quality audio that cuts through QRM
and noise.

[Elecraft] [K3] SPOT Request

2008-06-07 Thread K2ZLS

Hi Everybody:
K3 Beta tester # 703 checking in. New version 2.0 loaded and
everything seems fine. I see that CWT seems to work again but...there
is no mention of it in release notes.

  SPOT Request. With SPOT[tap] the pitch setting is heard with the
received auto. But with SPOT[hold] there is no received signal...just
the pitch setting which sounds like a strong carrier with slight hum.
I would like to see the SPOT[hold] work just like SPOT[tap] so you can
hear the received signal while you adjust the pitch. Its much easier to
pick a setting if you can hear both sides at the same time. I would
also like finer control [25] would be ok with me.

Thanks ELECRAFT I LUV MY K3.

Re: [Elecraft] Xverters

2008-06-07 Thread Johnny Siu
Hello OM,

I am using XV144 with my K3, IC7800 and IC7700.  It outperform my IC970H,
IC910H, TS790A and of course FT736R. My only complaint is that XV144 is not
quite design for FM use and becomes extremely hot when operating under FM mode.

I now use a cooling platform, which is designed for notebook computer, to cool
my XV144.

I hesitate to buy the XV432 because I have learnt some unfavourable reports
about frequency and operation instability. I am awaiting more positive reports
about XV432 before I go ahead and build it.

cheers,
