Re: [Elecraft] Enabling VOX via a macro
Hi John, That confirms what I thought. I don't want toggle as the vox may already be on and implementation of the macro would only serve to switch it off again. What I am doing within the control software is setting up one button mode changes along with filter settings, P3 span width, etc. As fldigi and Rumlog are not completely integrated I don't have the option of CAT control for PTT in the data modes, hence the need for the VOX to be enabled. Having said that, it's a very minor irritation that I can easily live with! Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, 73 Stephen On 22 February 2013 22:04, John_N1JM johnn...@gmail.com wrote: I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do but swh09; is the only choice there is for setting vox on and off, a toggle. I can use SWH09 but all that does is toggle the function so that if the VOX is already on, sending that command would turn it off. I suppose I am looking for a SET function for VOX but the programmer's reference implies that it is not yet available. [Elecraft] KAT500 fine tune question
I just picked up a KAT500 tuner and connected it up and have been able to figure almost everything out. The only thing I can not get to work is a fine tune. The manual says start a tune cycle within 5 seconds to get this to work. However, I can not find the magic combination with proper timing to get it to fire off. I am wanting to make sure I know how to use all the tools in the toolbox, but I can not figure this one out. So I am sure that it is operator error. Otherwise, its operation is just as described and its rock solid. Now my W2 matches SWR with the radio and KAT500, this is a comforting feeling. Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA or LP-PAN / NaP3 (K3)
Hi Knut, Just a little clarification for those who may not be familiar with the details of the P3/SVGA: The P3/SVGA combo is used independent of a computer. The monitor connected to the P3/SVGA *may* be the same monitor that you have connected to a computer -- but it cannot be used simultaneously WITH the computer. A switch (either built-in or external to the monitor) would select the source of either computer or P3/SVGA. On the other hand, using LP-PAN/NaP3 *requires* A computer (with a decent sound card) and monitor -- though it does not have to be an EXTRA computer and monitor, as you demonstrated with your screenshot showing a variety of ham radio applications running alongside NaP3. 73, Dale WA8SRA On 2/23/2013 11:52 AM, ab2tc wrote: Hi all, You do not need an extra computer or display for use with LP-Pan. Re: [Elecraft] XV144 transmits 5kHz low
Bob, I don't see how that shift could be coming from the XV144. Its local oscillator is running on the same frequency during receive and transmit. I would check the K3 28 MHz output to see if the same thing occurs. A guess -- It could be a mode thing. If the others are operating with CW in SSB, your K3 should be set similarly. The default for the K3 is for CW to be LSB - if others are operating with CW in USB, that could account for a difference if you are changing modes on the K3. The offset setting on the K3 is to account for any difference between the actual frequency and the K3 transverter band reading, and is applied to both transmit and receive. 73, Don W3FPR On 2/23/2013 10:08 AM, kd...@denstarfarm.us wrote: Howdy K3' people: Made a few contacts on 2m now, SSB CW. Assuming the jumper on your XV144 is set for TRN2, that is where you should change the OFS to give you the correct transmit frequency. For what it's worth, my K2 OFS is set to -1.32 but yours will most certainly be different depending on the precise frequency of the XV144 crystal. 73 de David G4DMP In a recent message, kd...@denstarfarm.us writes Howdy K3' people: Made a few contacts on 2m now, SSB CW. Re: [Elecraft] XV144 transmits 5kHz low
Bob For some reason I have not received your original mail, so excuse my piggy back on Don's reply. Firstly, 5kHz is a long way off ! If people called me 5kHz away, I probably would not hear them at all. Secondly, as Don says, the way the transverter works, with just the same one oscillator running for tx or rx, it is pretty much guaranteed not to shift between receive and transmit. So my guess is that you may have accidentally engaged the RIT or more likely the XIT, or perhaps the split frequency option. Everything you would do on 28MHz, your baseband for transverting, is faithfully reproduced on 144MHz. Re: [Elecraft] ERR 12V
Jamie: I assume that you are writing about a K3. If it's an older K3 you may have suffered a power connector failure between the K3 and the KPA3 amplifier module. A mod kit was developed by Elecraft that includes a new connector with gold plated pins. You can download the instructions here: http://www.elecraft.com/manual/KPA3%20Power%20Connector%20Replacement.pdf If this is the problem, you can have Elecraft install the mod, or you can order a kit to do it yourself. 73, Ron AC7AC -Original Message- Hello: I was working the NAQP today on 10M and was doing fine and then the PA got bypassed and I got ERR 12V on the screen and to check the circuit breaker. Re: [Elecraft] ERR 12V
Thanks to everyone for the quick response. The consensus is that it is a tarnished connector problem - a known issue. My serial number on my K3 is #616 so definitely an early model. I'll get in touch with them Monday for the repair kit. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, Currently I have a wintery mix of precipitation. I have seen four inches of snow, some sleet, a little hail, rain, and then what appeared to be clumps of slush falling. The trees were bowed and I heard a few cracking noises but the sun came out for ten minutes and most of it fell off. It looked like the trees were shaking off the snow as if they were very wet dogs. Propagation was fair to good the couple of times I was on the air this week. There is a sunspot blowing up in size but from what I have seen it is pointed away from us. I am sure 40 meters will be as noisy as last week when the QRN rose and drove me off the air. Digging for weak signals in that kind of noise keeps my ears ringing for quite a while. With more snow on the way tomorrow I can go out for a walk after the nets and listen to the quiet. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP relay help) Sunday 2300z (Sunday 3 PM PST) 14050 kHz Monday 0200z (Sunday 6 PM PST) 7045 kHz Stay warm, Kevin. [Elecraft] K3-KPA500: simplex comms
I hope something isn't broken (smoked)... A few weeks ago I bought a second hand KPA500. I ordered the KPAK3AUX cable and hooked it up. Comms were working both ways: amp follows rig, rig follows amp. The first real RF test was last week in the ARRL DX contest. I noticed that sometimes I heard a cracking noise in the headphones, which made the KPA500's display flicker. In many cases the display was set to 18.1 MHZ and the amp lost control. From then on, the rig switched bands by 'RF sensing' i.s.o. following the K3. If I changed bands on the rig, the amp would follow but not the other way round. Resetting the amp solved the problem. Today I had the same problem, but now it worse. Now there is only one way communication from rig to amp. And when I switch between operate/stdby on the amp, the K3's display doesn't reflect the status with a message. So the amp is unable to talk back to the rig. I found out that by switching off the K3, I regain access to the amp's band buttons. But then the PTT asterix shows (with the rig OFF!). For a while at least (few seconds), then the amp toggles the bands itself in random order, only to freeze on a given band. But when I turn the K3 on, the amp immediately switches to the band the rig is set to. I assume the root cause is the crack/rattle I hear when sending, which started it all. The noise occurs only when I key the rig for longer periods. Short burst like call 5NN kW don't trigger it. Long transmissions do (long CQs, ragchew etc). I'm afraid something is broken. I hope there's an easy fix and an explanation? - Franki ON5ZO __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 - Loose Mic Connector Flange
I noticed my mic connector flange on my K3 seems loose. Not terribly loose, just enough to move a mm or so when connecting the mic. [Elecraft] K1 VFO frequency does not change
I'm at the VFO range test in building of my K1. I go into the CAL menu, display OSC and see a freq of 3.121 MHz. The frequency does not change when I turn the VFO tuning pot. [Elecraft] New K3, audio (speakers) dead
I see this had happened before, and Elecraft was supposed to have fixed any blown audio chip issues. However, just putting together my new K3 (S/N 72xx), and going to calibrate sections, I noticed no audio in speaker. Tried headphones, front and back -ok. Speaker jack on back is dead as well. Looks a lot like the old audio chip problem still. I never even had a chance to hookup an antenna yet! Any other new K3s out there having the same problem still? Would like to know if there is still some generic problem, or was I just an unlucky circumstance. Everything else seems to be working fine. Need to fix this before installing KRX3 and KPA3. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - Loose Mic Connector Flange
There's no hardware, Joel. The jack is soldered directly onto the board behind it. Either that board or the jack is moving. It's possible that some solder connections on the jack to the board have broken or that the hardware holding the front panel board is loose. I don't know which rev of the kit assembly manual you are consulting, but in Rev L8 it's shown in Figure 37.
