Re: [Elecraft] K3 Audio routing question
Yes... this is something I'd like to see as well In the RSGB/IARU 50mhz annual contest, the station here consists of 4 large antenna systems and 4 receivers. It would be beneficial to me if I was able to drop that down to 2 K3's! 73, Andy http://gd0tep.com -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of g0afh Sent: 06 July 2010 08:26 To: d...@w3fpr.com; Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Audio routing question Hi Don, Imagine a system with good isolation between antennae such as you can achieve with long yagi's at VHF/UHF. In my left ear I have the main RX with stations from the UK, in my right ear I have the sub RX and stations from Europe. I have a QRM from another G in my left ear when I am called by a weak station from Europe which I hear in my right ear. As the antennae have nice patterns I can barley hear the QRM from the G on the antenna pointing at Europe. Now I want to mute or attenuate the audio from the main RX and listen to the audio from the sub RX in both ears. I know this will not be diversity any more but I'd quite like the filter controls to continue to affect both receivers without having to press BSET. After I have worked the station I need to return to diversity mode listening to both receivers again. Diversity mode almost does what I want with both receivers locked together, I just need to be able to select which audio I listen to at a given time. I can easily make up a box to switch the audio but I would have thought that what I want to do is not that uncommon. Hope this makes more sense. 73 Ian G0AFH Don Wilhelm wrote: Diversity reception requires hearing both the main and the subRX, each with their own antenna. Re: [Elecraft] 6M CW
This thread has been quite interesting I respect the station that can sit and rag chew on CW, I've tried it on one of the HF bands, and found it very demanding on the brain. On 6m... If the band was open with more than one hop of SpE, I'll be chasing new grid squares, or DXCC countries. I do it on single hop SpE as well, but with more than one hop available, some real DX might also be available.. I think a lot of 'DXers' on 6m would be upset to hear a W7 on the band and not be able to have a quick QSO... I sure would be... That doesn't mean people can't be polite... I've heard and worked what I consider to be good DX (more than one hop SpE) and the DX station insisted on names as well as report... And, as he had a pile up, that's what he got with every QSO... now that's not unfair, it's just what the 'DX' wanted. In the large RSGB/IARU contest, even with the band going 'ding dong' I always try to pass over GM or GA on each QSO... does this slow the rate down...? maybe has it damaged to score? I don't think so, and we've won the contest 10 times in the last 13 years... Yesterdays DX from here was C56E, I've a short video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrCvY4OjZJ4 At the end of the day, it's a hobby... have fun, do what you enjoy... but remember the rest of us out there... :-) 73, Andy http://gd0tep.com -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Brett Howard Sent: 06 July 2010 06:12 To: Sandy Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] 6M CW Heck I guess I'll stop doing that... OK Greg, I'll be trying this tonight when I'm at the shack. 73 Andy http://www.gd0tep.com -Original Message- From: Greg - AB7R [mailto:a...@cablespeed.com] Sent: 02 April 2009 16:21 To: 'Andy GD0TEP' Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 and PR6 question Yes, that I think you can do. I don't have a PR6 to test it with though but if you are set up like this you should accomplish what you want... 1. Don't conntect the PR6 directly to the KXV3. Use very short jumpers (6 is fine). 2. Connect your RX antenna to the PR6 input that would normally connect to the KXV3 RX OUT. Have the PR6 set per the instructions otherwise so that its turned on via the DIG0 output of the ACCY connector for 6M. 3. Set the SUB antenna to MAIN. 4. Tap the RX ANT button so that the main (and sub since it's sharing) RX is using the RX antenna which is now going through the PR6 to the KXV3 RX IN. When you transmit you are using ANT1 or ANT2 as selected. But when you are receiving you are using the RX antenna through the PR6. However with this setup you will notice a 3dB drop because of the sub and main sharing the KXV3 RX antenna. If you have the PR6 output connected to the AUX RF input you will not have the 3dB drop but you will only have the RX ANT active on the sub receiver and it will need to be set to AUX vice MAIN. If you want the same RX antenna through the PR6 on both receivers without the drop you can connect the RX antenna as I said to the PR6 input and use a T adapter on the output of the PR6 to the Aux RF input and the KXV3 RX IN connection. - 73, Greg - AB7R Whidbey Island WA NA-065 On Thu Apr 2 7:57 , 'Andy GD0TEP' a...@gd0tep.com sent: Greg, what I was trying to do was use the K3 like my 756pro does, i.e. TX on the main socket out, but receive on the RX antenna, all the time maintaining the advantage of the PR6. 73 Andy http://www.gd0tep.com -Original Message- From: Greg - AB7R [a...@cablespeed.com','','','')a...@cablespeed.com] Sent: 02 April 2009 15:45 To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net; 'Andy GD0TEP' Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 and PR6 question I suppose if you REALLY wanted to do this you could use a second PR6 and run your RX ant to the PR6 input and the output connected to the AUX RF connector if its installed and KRX3 set to BNC. [Elecraft] K3 PR6 6m pre-amp question...
Hi Group, My PR6 pre-amp arrived here today and I've got it connected. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I simply can't get it to work. 12v is taken from the AUX supply. (The 12v is good) The White CTRL lead is connected to pin 11 on ACC On the 6m band I've set CONFIG: DIGOUT1 to ON I've removed the jumper P2 (although it didn't make any difference either way) The manual indicates tapping the RX antenna button to turn the pre-amp on, and when I do, the radio stops receiving. (it's sat listening to a beacon) and the RX is shown on the front panel. Parcelforce International have a big clearing centre where all internal packages arrive. Unfortunately, as I was told by a customs officer there, their computer system does not accept the full TARIC code. So the officer enters the first N digits. In some cases, the rate of duty varies between the exact codes of that group, so they charge the highest duty of the group. This is not a problem that suppliers and shippers can solve. It's systemic in the poor way in which the IT support that supports customs within Parcelforce International works. So even though Elecraft uses the correct code and this is demonstrably correct, you still get charged. This happened to me when I ordered the KPA100 option. It took 2 months to get my money back. If you use a courier such as UPS, DHL etc, their customs clearance processes are usually better. So I'm afraid there is little that you can do about this other than pursue wrongful charges vigorously to get your money back. I wrote a letter of complaint, but other than letting off steam, I doubt it had any real effect. Perhaps if everyone who suffered the same fate did likewise, someone in customs in Parcelforce might take notice. Whether the premium is justified is a decision for the user and the option allows those who need it to get the performance without taxing those who will never benefit from it. I'm not saying that performance on six meters should have been higher than the performance on the HF bands. I'm saying that it should not be worse than an IC-756 PRO III, a TS-2000 or an FT-2000 would be, considering the claims made about the K3's performance. I have no idea of the proportion of K3 users who will never use 6 meters in any serious way. However I think there are quite a few, such as myself, who will have some fun on the band from time to time simply because modern HF transceivers now include it. I'm certainly not serious enough about 6m to spend money on a preamp for it, so I'm feeling a little short-changed after receiving information that the K3 is so deaf on 6m that you need one. Firstly, thanks to everyone who replied to me, either direct or via the list. With a clear head and a fresh day, the K3 now transmits WSJT tones as expected. The major stumbling block was simple in the end... Always make sure there's sound coming out of the PC!! How it happened I can't say, I simply don't know, but the sound out was muted... Yeah, now don't I feel a dumbo :-) Once that was sorted, I had tones but only just... RE: [Elecraft] Elecraft K3 + Microham?
Further to this one. Details I missed out: Microham USB Interface 2, complete with Microham lead. When trying to TX WSJT tones for a test, I get the following results: On Data A, no signal at all. AFSK A, no signal at all. [Elecraft] K3 - No power on SSB???
Hello to the group. K3 01684 'factory built' was delivered last week, and I've only found time to power it up today... It's a K3/10 with the KXV3. I'm stuck on getting power out on SSB. It took a little while to figure out the CW section, and that now works fine. I've gone over the manual a few times but I must be missing something and I'll bet it's something stupid... But I can't see what it is... Also, looking at the power out options, I have an adjustable 0-12w on HF, but only 0-8w on 6m... Is that right? I could have done with 10w on 6m. I've yet to connect up my microham interface, I'm hopeful it'll work without problem... Advice about the power issue would be appreciated.. Thanks. 73 Andy http://gd0tep.com ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. RE: [Elecraft] K3 - No power on SSB???
Thanks Don, your email was just a few seconds behind one that also mentioned the Bias setting. I have the MH2 mic, and the bias was off. I'll have a look at the microham tomorrow as it's getting late and mistakes are easy when tired... Andy, You did not say what you were using for audio input, and we know it is not coming from the Microham interface yet. Do you have your microphone input set correctly? There are 2 inputs - front and rear. Do you have an electret microphone? If so, you need to turn bias on. With high output microphones (usually an electret element of a dynamic mic with a preamp), you can use the Low mic gain range setting but with low output microphones (like the Heil dynamic HC4/5 element mics) need the High setting. Set the mic gain and compression level as stated in the manual - 5 to 7 bars of ALC showing on peaks and compression to suit you. Use TX Test mode to set it up and listen to your voice in the monitor to judge how much compression is good for you. Of course, there will be no power output in SSB without any audio input. 73, Don W3FPR gd0tep wrote: Hello to the group.
