[Elecraft] Fwd: Import Costs from America
Hi to the list, As Clive said the original question I asked has been answered and once again I thank those that have answered this (both privately and publicly). As to the way the thread has now gone can we either discontinue this or if people wish to continue the new discussion change the thread title so that those of us who wish not to become imbroiled in the thread can set a filter to ignore it please 73 Gary G7USC Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Clive Lorton cl...@thelortons.co.uk Date: 26 September 2014 19:06:13 BST To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Import Costs from America Come on guys, The original question was about import duty and VAT (sales Tax) to the UK. [Elecraft] Import Costs from America
Hi All recently I've inherited some money. I'm considering buy a K3/100 and the Elecraft 500W linear direct from Elecraft (UK prices are the same in pounds as the price in dollars). Buying direct would save about £1600. Obviously the import charges then have to be pains and was wondering if any one might have a rough idea of these? 73 Gary G7USC Sent from my iPhone __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Slight problem with adjusting power output
Hi to the List, OK here goes when I use the power dial to adjust the Power out on the K2 I get on the LCD the keyer speed being adjusted. This also happens when I use the keyer dial. I've checked that every thing worked fine and dandy up to the stage 2 alignment (40m receive). I 'm not sure where I've mucked it up as I can't see any shorts, components not soldered or components in the wrong place on any of the boards. At present I'm stuck on the 40m transmitter alignment so haven't set up the other bands for receive or transmit yet. [Elecraft] How Critical is R116's Value?
Hi to the List, I misidentified R116 and soldered it in the wrong place. I now have R116 with leads far too short to hold in L33 on the underside of the RF board in my K2. I can get locally either a 4.7 or 5.6 M Ohm resistor of the correct type. So would either of these be suitable as a replacement for R116? [Elecraft] Thanks to all on the List
Hi to the List, I must say a big thank you to the you all for the advice particularly over the last week. I have now sorted the problem of R116 by using a 5.6 M Ohm resister. I have also now completed the Stage 2 Alignment. It's very nice to hear signals of all sorts on 40m. Now onto the PA stage and the KSB2 module. Hopefully up and running on digital within the next couple of weeks :) Once that's done i have the Noise Blanker, Audio Filter RS232 port and The 100w PA to do. The 100w PA will be the last section. I'll run the K2 QRP for most of the time even with the 100w PA in situ. I certainly will have a fair bit to talk about at my local radio club once the K2 is complete. Hopefully I will win the Clubs construction contest this year but it will also be the first year I've entered as previously I've not had something worth entering :) 73 Gary Gary McKelvie G7USC Web : www.garym.org.uk Mobile : +447968501863 MSN Messenger : [EMAIL PROTECTED] So Long and Thanks for all the Fish ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Advice needed on stripping enameled wire
Hi to the list, Was wondering if anyone has any tips for stripping the enamel off the enameled wire for coils, transformers etc. I find that using the hot blob of solder method wasteful of solder and not 100%, so am currently using a mixture of a lighter flame and the solder technique which seems to be better than just the blob of solder method.. So is there a better way or how do you do them? 73 Gary G7USC Gary McKelvie G7USC Web : www.garym.org.uk Mobile : +447968501863 MSN Messenger : [EMAIL PROTECTED] So Long and Thanks for all the Fish ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] Advice needed on stripping enameled wire
Hi to the List, I've taken it on board guys, what I'm now doing is the sand paper first to roughen the enamel then the blob. It works much better. Much quicker. Before i was just using the blob and it seemed to take forever. I am going to try a Stanley knife just gently on the wire to see how that does. [Elecraft] RFC Component Identification
Hi to the list, Hopefully some one will confirm what I think is the RFC's. I'm currently building the 40m receiver (RF Board stage 2) I think I have identified the RFC's which are similar to resistors but thicker in their body shape with the leads axially. Like resistors they are marked with various colour bands to mark their value with a 4 band to mark tolerance e.g. silver/gold. some of the bodies are tan, some are green. The photo and parts list says they should all be green. unfortunately I can't measure Inductance on my DMM. Is there any measurement on my DMM e.g. resistance that would indicate that these are the RFC's? I'm thinking would they have a typical resistance possibly a low one? I also have one separate one which has a tan body , colour markings green red/brown green with a gold tolerance mark, similar to a 1/8 watt resistor which I believe is the sub miniature one used on the underside of the RF Board PC for the modification near C191. Thanks in advance. [Elecraft] K2 kit arrived today
Hi All, Well I received my K2 today, Thank you Elecraft for a speedy dispatch and delivery! Wish all companies were the same. Construction has now started on # 6089, altho I do already have a question :) Where there is a diode marked (diode 3 upper right edge near to the top of the PCB) you install a resistor (R22 82 KOhms ), Now I've searched the archives, the erratica sheet and manual and can't find any thing about it, so the question is simply - why? You can be sure there will be more questions to follow over time :) I've already been penciled in to do a talk for my local radio club at some point on my experiences on building the K2 and knowing what my fellow club members are like I'll no doubt be asked about things like that :) 73 Gary Gary McKelvie G7USC Web : www.garym.org.uk Mobile : +447968501863 MSN Messenger : [EMAIL PROTECTED] So Long and Thanks for all the Fish ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi to the list, Thanks to every one that replied to my query about the K2 and Digital modes. It was pretty much what I wanted to hear. I've now ordered my kit and am looking forward to receiving it so that I can get started on building this radio. So apologies to those that replied either to me on or off the list I usually reply far quicker than this. once again Thanks for the info much appreciated. Will no doubt be back in touch when I run into a problem :) Several people have suggested to remote the 100w PA so I'll no doubt go that way and I've been following the recent thread in the list on doing that. i now wish i had ordered a separate enclosure. Currently no plans to get the AATU that might just be an idea for a birthday/Xmas present.
