Re: [Elecraft] AX-1 whip antenna
Sorry - I don't have very short jumpers available right now for that test - the actual setup has 2 feet of coax between the antenna and the isolation transformer followed by 4 feet of coax to the K3 connector. This configuration works fine when testing in FT8 mode at 20 watts on 20 meters and also on 40 meters (when using the AEX1 extender). [Elecraft] AX-1 whip antenna
I have been trying to come up with a antenna for use in an apartment with only limited success. I have now set up the Elecraft AX-1 antenna and it seems to play well with my K3 indoors with the antenna placed in a window supported by a folding camera tripod. One caveat is that there seems to be significant feedline RF so a 1:1 isolation transformer near the antenna feed point is an absolute requirement. Without the transformer, even 1 watt transmissions caused various nasty computer gremlins when using digital modes. My apartment no longer needs to be a maze of wires and switches - many thanks to Elecraft for this excellent product. Re: [Elecraft] P3 with TX Monitor up and running
Phil The current production release code for the P3 is over a year old - the Txmonitor function hardware was introduced at Dayton this year and the first units did not ship till about a week ago so the firmware has not yet caught up to current. I suspect that between Dayton and version 1.50 of the Beta code last week, there were a number of changes made to improve the code based on tester feedback. Example - at Dayton, the FAQ indicated that the monitor function would only work with the K3 but the latest FAQ says it will work with an transceiver. With my limited experience so far, the firmware does appear very stable even if it is still classified officially as Beta. I will continue to use the system and migrate to new versions of firmware as it becomes available just as I have done with the K3. [Elecraft] P3 with TX Monitor up and running
Installed the TX monitor as I was building the new P3 adapter. Easy as others have indicted. After loading all the firmware from the production side of the Elecraft web site to test initial functionality, I loaded the Beta code to enable the TX Monitor features. Everything went well ... having the real time SWR and power output in addition to the modulation envelope is a very nice addition to the capabilities of the K Line. [Elecraft] KXV3B manual changes in the enabling process
There has been a recent change to the KXV3B manual that describes a different enabling procedure. When I ordered my module around the time of Dayton, the manual shipped with the unit was revision C with a May 27th date. The current manual online shows a date of July 27th and a revision ID of C2. The enabling instructions between the two manuals on the last pages are different between the versions. If you received one of the early shipments of this module as I did, you may want to check this. 73 Jobst AC0LP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Firmware for P3TXMON function
Looking at the software page for the P3, do we load the Beta 1.50 version (July 29th 2015 dated) for the TXMON capability, or is there something else in the works? As a side note, I hope that Elecraft eventually gets pictures up on the web site show casing the TX monitor function for the P3. In addition, the FAQ says that this function will now work with any transceiver. During Dayton, the FAQ said that the TXMON function would only work with the K3 so highlighting this change might be a nice thing to do to expand the market. 73s Jobst AC0LP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Multiple sensors with P3 transmit monitor
FYI When I was a volunteer at the Elecraft booth in Dayton, the question of multiple sensors was raised a number of times. During one such discussion, an individual from Elecraft seemed to indicate that if a switch was to be built, each sensor in the chain needed to have continuous power. His take was to switch the signal lines only and leave power to all sensors at all times. For this reason, he did not recommend a simple off the shelf switch that transferred all 8 lines. I'll leave it up to the experts to see if this off the cuff discussion is still a valid concern. [Elecraft] W2 Watt meter suggestion
I operate almost exclusively with digital modes so I would REALLY like to see a new feature on the W2 sensor module to allow a tektronix scope to be connected for my K3 so I can monitor the transmission envelope. I have the CP1 directional coupler minimodule but putting that in line makes for a cluttered mess with at least two more connections to create issues. Any chance that this will be a future enhancement to the sensor module - or is there another easy way to connect a monitor scope that I am not seeing. [Elecraft] Tuner Loss question
I have lots of data in the loss to be expected in Coax or Open wire when running at higher SWR into a multiband antenna - however, I do NOT have any real world data on the losses to be expected in a tuner system at higher SWR. So: Are there any numbers available on what additional losses my Elecraft K3 (SN 5283) antenna tuner will experience when the SWR is high - say about 5:1 or higher when feeding a multiband antenna with 50 Ohm coax on 20 meters? Should I expect another 3 dB down in signal strength during receive - and also Transmit? Or are the losses higher or lower then that? Also, are the losses frequency dependent (like on coax) or are they the same across the bands. Thanks for any available data. [Elecraft] K3 and Hamlib - issue confirmed
I checked the version of Hamlib available with the Sqeeze flavor of Debian. It is 1.2.11-1 and so considerably out of date vs the current version of 1.2.15-3. I'll wait a bit to see if a later version gets uploaded to Debian - otherwise, I'll face the music and try to compile it locally from source. Thanks to Nate Bargmann N0NB for the solution to the issue I was having Jobst AC0LP. -- ___ In order to save energy, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 and Hamlib control
I am running the Debian Squeeze flavor of Linux and have fldigi installed as well as libhamlib2. However, I get no results trying to use the rig control features. As far as I can determine, the serial port is working but I get a communication time out error in the fldigi log when hamlib is set for the Elecraft K3 (Beta) option. Any suggestions? The K3 and rig control screens are both set to 9600 baud and using one stop bit. Everything does work well using VOX to key the rig (I do use an external sound card and have onboard audio disabled as well as having all system sounds disabled in the ALSA mixer) so I can operate in digital modes without issues - would just like to have some more automation if possible. FYI - I also have JT65-HF running using the latest and greatest version of wine on the same system - all is good there as well using VOX. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Re: [Elecraft] K3/ Microkeyer/N1MM lockup at FD
FYI - The same thing happens when using the JT65-HF software (version 1.0.7) and setting the program to use the Ham Radio Deluxe (Version 5) Interface to control PTT. The PTT frequently hangs in transmit mode and the only remedy is to power down the K3. However, using JT65-HF with it's own independent PTT control has not shown any such issues with a PTT hang. [Elecraft] Another K3/100 is on the air (AC0LP)
Assembly was absolutely fool proof - except that I was the fool when I could not find one of the small parts bags that had slipped under a cardboard box flap. Fortunately, I kept looking and found the errant parts so that the build could be finished and the rig on the air in two days. Hopefully, the parts group at Elecraft will forgive me for the email requesting the missing part followed in a few hours by a second "I Found It" email. So far, only one contact on 20 meter PSK31 - just enough to prove that all was really working as intended - now it's time to get really deeply into the manual and get the configuration where I want it and my comfort with the controls up to par as well. [Elecraft] A Mini Module I would love to see (AC0LP)
A small board to insert 12 volts DC on the Coax at the shack and a similar board to pick it up at the antenna end to run relays or power remote tuners without impacting the RF carried on the coax. I really do not want to run a second set of cables just for this purpose. It would be great if it was configured with some more or less standard DPDT relay positions (optional of course) that could be populated as needed by the user to meet various switching needs. MFJ does offer such a beast (4116 and 4117 without the relays) - but I admit to some significant uncertainty in the quality of the design and the of the components used in the manufacturing. [Elecraft] A few Questions on the K3
I built a K2 a number of years ago while sailing (S/N #1442) and it served me well as my only route for email to my family using Winlink and a pactor modem. That K2 sits on the shelf at the moment (and may get sold shortly) while I am using an Icom 703 Plus. I operate Digital modes (mainly PSK) and stick to QRP so Elecraft equipment has always been on the short list. I am now in the process of working on the antenna side of the equation and plan on a vertical Moxon (reversible) in addition to my 120 foot long wire (with an Icom AH-4 tuner) and a 33 foot vertical doublet fed with 450 ohm window line using a 4:1 Balun. Once the antenna issue is complete, I am seriously considering the upgrade to a K3 So - On to the questions: 1) With a 4:1 Balun and the K3 tuner, will I have any issues (6 meters to 20 meters only) matching the vertical doublet (the Icom handles it OK)? 2) How could I continue to use the Icom Tuner with the K3 on the random wire (80 to 6 meters)? How do I initiate a tuning cycle that would send 10 watts to the AH4 in CW and then revert back to SSB for the PSK 3) Can the K3 initiate a tuning cycle on the AH4 without using the internal tuner 4) I plan to use the MFJ 4116 Bias injector to introduce 12 volts on the coax leg that feeds the reversible Moxon (needed to run the relay that reverses the antenna pattern)- will this create an issue with the K3 Any thoughts or experience is welcome Thanks in advance Jobst Vandrey AC0LP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
