[Elecraft] [K3] No Power Output
Hello everyone, as of last evening, my K3 is no longer indicating any power output on the RF meter during transmit. I've tried both PTT and VOX, as well as 2 different antennas. (dipole beam) When selecting ATU TUNE, I see the RF meter go to 5W as expected, but the SWR indicator above only displays - -. I've gone through all the settings and they look correct. The PWR knob is fully clockwise, I'm not in test mode, etc., etc. I've sent an email to Elecraft but I thought I'd check here as well to see if anyone has seen this behavior. [Elecraft] IF DSP strangeness
Greetings everyone, I just noticed some odd behavior with IF DSP that I hadn't noticed up until now. I'm not sure if I inadvertently changed a setting to cause this behavior or not: When I activate IF DSP, (VFO B / any setting) my S-meter goes to zero whether I'm locked on to a signal or not. The DSP setting controlled by VFO A seems to be functioning normally however. Any idea what may be causing this? [Elecraft] QRM/QRN - normal?
Greetings, I'm currently seeing a consistent S5 for noise level on 20m with the pre-amp activated. It drops to S3 with the pre-amp disabled. This reading was taken at noon time on the east coast. Does this sound reasonable based on current conditions, or do you think I'm experiencing interference from something nearby? I'm fairly new to HAM radio so I'm not really sure what to expect for this time year and based on current conditions. It seems kind of high to me. Re: [Elecraft] QRM/QRN - normal?
Hi Vic, I'm using the K3. I haven't really played much with the noise blanker up until now, but I was just able to reduce the noise level by about 1-2 s-units by enabling NB with the following settings: DSP - T3-7 IF - NAR1 If I couple these settings with disabling the pre-amp, I can get the noise level down to around an S1! Great work Elecraft! I'll have to start playing around with the NB settings more often going forward. I'm not sure what effect this might have on a received signal however. (didn't test that yet) Are there any general guidelines for using NB? (i.e., DSP versus IF, using only DSP, using both, etc.) Thanks, - Bill Vic K2VCO wrote: KB1PXD wrote: Greetings, I'm currently seeing a consistent S5 for noise level on 20m with the pre-amp activated. I'm fairly new to HAM radio so I'm not really sure what to expect for this time year and based on current conditions. It seems kind of high to me. This is probably primarily man-made noise from nearby (radius of a few blocks) electrical devices. You don't mention what rig you are using, but if it has a noise blanker, it might help. This time of year with everyone running air conditioners, it's unfortunately not surprising to see a high noise level in urban or suburban locations. Horizontal antennas will probably be quieter than verticals. Balanced antennas are usually better than unbalanced ones, and dipoles can benefit from the use of a balun. A random wire that comes into your shack is probably the worst of all. -- 73, Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Rigblaster/Signalink for K3?
Hi Dave, I appreciate your input but as I had said, I'm looking for canned solution. Also, my laptop doesn't contain a serial port so I'd need a USB--Serial adapter. (I know, not a big deal but I'm trying to keep this clean and simple) I too plan to use DM780 but have no interest in controlling the K3 (changing freq., etc.) from HRD. I'm looking for the simplest solution to support PSK31. I've read in some older threads where someone was able to accomplish this by just a pair of stereo cables and enabling VOX, but based on a recent thread, there seems to be some question about this configuration and whether or not it works or is problematic. Re: [Elecraft] Rigblaster/Signalink for K3?
Thanks Simon. I couldn't have said it better myself. Those my sentiments exactly. - Bill Simon Brown (HB9DRV) wrote: The nice thing about an 'all-in-one' solution: 1) Just one USB cable connected to your radio. 2) Very high quality soundcard. 3) Winkeyer built-in. 4) Extra COM ports. 5) Monitor the audio. 6) One chunky cable from the unit to your radio. End result is a very tidy installation with a high-quality soundcard. Simon Brown, HB9DRV -- From: Dave G4AON [EMAIL PROTECTED] What does the K3 lack that a Rigblaster or Signalink provides? Re: [Elecraft] Rigblaster/Signalink for K3?
I'm not certain that they have a solution that fully supports the K3. I've sent them email inquiring about this. I didn't see any solutions on their website that included the appropriate cable to connect to the K3, but maybe I missed it. Thanks, - Bill Simon Brown (HB9DRV) wrote: SignaLink USB. [Elecraft] Is the K3 shipping estimate really accurate?
Greetings everyone, Like many others here on the forum, I've been patiently waiting for my new K3. My order was placed on 2/18 and at the time, I was told there would be a 4-month turnaround time. In fact, the Elecraft website is still indicating a 4-month turnaround time. Being that this will be my first HF rig, I'm having difficulties coming to terms with not receiving it until June at the very earliest. What worries me even more is that June may in fact be overly optimistic, and it could very well be July, August, or even later before I see it. Can someone from Elecraft, or even someone with some insight into their current back order situation comment on the likeliness of me receiving my rig by mid-June? As it stands now, June is really pushing my patience, and if I knew it it was going to be even longer, I think that I'm going to have to give some serious consideration into purchasing a ProIII within the next few weeks. I'm hopeful that Elecraft will be able to ramp up their production and get me my rig even prior to June, but I have a feeling that's not going to happen. Any insight would be greatly appreciated and help me immensely in making my decision. Re: [Elecraft] Is the K3 shipping estimate really accurate?
Thanks to everyone who responded. Lots of great advice. It's very encouraging to hear that the K3 is well worth waiting for. I'm actually considering picking up a lower priced QRP rig such as the FT-817ND ($600), and using that in the interim. Hopefully I'll be able to get most of my money back 4-6 months down the road when my K3 is ready. I'll also be exploring used rigs as well. If anyone has a K1 that they'd be interested in selling, please email me. I thought about ordering one but I'm not confident enough to perform the assembly. - Bill, KB1PXD -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Is-the-K3-shipping-estimate-really-accurate--tp16037721p16041998.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Is the K3 shipping estimate really accurate?
Also, if anyone is interested in selling their K2, please email me. It'll probably be 1-2 weeks however until I'm ready to make the purchase, but I'm definitely interested.
