Good afternoon, has any Canadian Elecrafters sent a rig to Elecraft for warranty repairs and if so when the radio was return were you charged any duty or HST taxes as it crossed over the boarder? I may be sending a rig down and was just wondering what cross boarder experience was of those who have sent a rig to Elecraft for warranty repairs? [Elecraft] P3 display issue.
Yesterday while on the radio I notice on my P3 screen a signal (so I thought) the band was basically dead other than this signal. As I tried to tune to it the signal would move. No matter how close I tried to get to the so called signal it kept the same distance from my VFO A tuning indication. I have seen this on other SDR setups but never on the P3 putting this out there for your input. [Elecraft] K3 error message
Good afternoon group, today I have been trying to operate JT65 using my K3 in DATA A mode along with WSJT-X program. When I activate "TUNE" in the WSJT-X the K3 gives me an error message "ERR PTT" and the K3 goes back to receive. I have never had this issue in the past and have not added any new gear or changed settings. It's not doing it all the time. If I put the rig into tune via the WSJT program once every 3rd try the K3 will produce this error message. NOTE: if I put the K3 into tune via the tune button on the rig there is no issue. [Elecraft] K-pod issue....I think?
Good afternoon all, I was operating in the NAQP CW this weekend and the main reason I purchased the K-pod was for contesting. It was great to have the VFO right beside my keyboard and to have the advantage of sending contest macros from the K-pod meant less mouse work. The question I have is...I did notice on many occasions when pressing the "F" buttons to send a macro (e.g. VE3WDM and Mike ON or K3 functions such as spot or A/B ) the macro did not send. Sometimes it took pressing the "F" button 3 times. Other times it was first press and I noticed this on all the F buttons I was using which was F1,2 4 and 8. Has anyone else had this? My question to Elecraft (as I know they monitor the list) isis there an issue with my new K-pod? It is very frustrating during a contest to send your call and have it not happen or your exchange and nothing and as said sometimes up to 3 tries. As well to want to spot a station and nothing happens or A/B and nothing happens. [Elecraft] SWR issue with K3
While on 20m I tuned the MFJ 1788 to the lowest SWR which was 1.2:1. I did this using the tune button on the K3. I noticed the SWR on the K3 was bouncing around from 1.2, 1.3, 1.7, 1.4 and so on and never settling on just one reading. This only happens on 20m and no other band that I tuned on. Here is some of the trouble shooting I did. 1. I have a KX3 and hooked it up to the MFJ 1788 loop antenna and read the SWR. It showed 1.2:1 and no "bouncing" issues. I did remove the PL259 from the K3 ANT1 port and connected it to the KX3 so the test would include all that was in line with the K3. In line meaning coax, antenna switch and MFJ tuner box. 2. I opened up the K3 and tightened all screws ( boards, case, SO-239 and any checked out the seating of coax jumpers in the rig for a secure fit. 3. I tried the K3 on a dummy load and all was good. I am at a loss as to what is going on and am looking for some input? I check the rig again today on 20m and it's still having SWR bouncing issues. I have never had this in the past and am looking for feed back on things to check? [Elecraft] KX3 Trans gain calibration issue
I took my KX3 out on the trail today and for the first time ever I got ERR TXG and D=114? I looked things up on my Iphone and seemed it needed a TX gain calibration. It never has done this in the past but I figured maybe because I loaded on the new firmware that gives me more Transmit power. I took the rig home hooked it up to a dummy load, plugged it into my power supply and ran the TX gain calibration from the KX3 utility. All went well and it passed, I then removed it from the power supply and on battery power I put the rig into transmit (holding the XMIT button in CW mode) and I received the same message. On the home power supply no problem but on the internal batteries I get the error message. [Elecraft] Faint clicking sound in headphones
Just today I notice a faint clicking noise when using my headphones and only when the AF is turned up not when all the way down, here is my setup.Elecraft k3, Begali key into a Winkeyer USB and the menu key weight setting in the K3 is 1.10 Here is what I have tried to fix the issue with no success: 1. Tried different headphones. 2. Snap on chokes on headphone cord. 3. Removed Winkeyer and plugged key into rear of K3. 4. Tried a different key plugged it into Winkeyer and just to rear of K3. 5. Tried on Dummy load and clicking is gone. 6. Check all connections to make sure they are tight. 7. Tried my KX3 using same key and antenna and no clicks. 8. The clicking is happening on all bands. I believe that is all I tried and I am at a loss as to what it could be, I'm hopping it's something simple that I have overlooked. [Elecraft] 6 Khz filter question
Good afternoon all, I have for some time now had the 6 Khz filter installed in my K3. I was just recently on JT-65 in Data A mode and wanted to use the 6Khz filter. I was only able to open the width to 4 Khz using the width knob? I wanted to open it up to 6 khz so I could receive both JT65 and JT9 signals. [Elecraft] K3 CW decoding.
Good afternoon, during the CQ CW contest the other weekend I used the CW decoder for the woodpecker code speed. I did notice it was picking up a ton of noise and trying to decode it. Is there a setting that reduces the pickup of static noise that is being converted into nonsense letters. My settings at the time were 250Hz filter and threshold was at 3 under decode settings and speed was at 5-40 wpm. Thanks in advance. [Elecraft] K3 upgrade advise
Soon I will be placing an order for the KSYN3AUPG board for my K3 and at the same time since the rig will be apart try to order any other upgrade mod's for the rig. One mod I was looking at was I have REV C DSP board and see that I can add K3DSPLPF board. Does this board offer any other enhancement other than a LPF to roll off the RX audio above 4 KHz? The Serial number of my K3 is 3619 it no longer has the Sub receiver and is the low power model at 10 watts is there any other upgrades I should consider? figure may as well order them all at once save on shipping. [Elecraft] KX3 error message
I had the following error message on my KX3..ERR TXG d=200 after pushing the Tune button to see my SWR This was my setup at the time.. KX3 on CW, filter setting 300, VOX on, ATU off, Pre on and the band was 20m Antenna was mobile whip on my car and RG8 coax. I had another unusual thing going on as well and that is my SWR was always 1.4:1 no matter where I was on the 20m even all the way up to the SSB portion. Normally the mobile whip never had that bandwidth and nor should it. I then swapped out antennas and moved down to two 15 meters and the error was no longer there but I still had this odd 1.4:1 SWR across the band. When I got home I put my KX3 on a dummy load and no error message. I then put the KX3 on my home MFJ 1788 loop antenna and no error message or SWR anomalies. I am not sure what was going on and never had that problem in the mobile before. Any ideas would be great. I am considering using my base model k3 (without KPA100) for digi modes and was not sure what the duty cycle was for the rig? One of the modes I was looking at was JT65 and it as I understand has long keydown times. [Elecraft] CW skimmer setup question
Just downloaded CW skimmer and am using it with the LP Pan, E MU 0202 and of coarse the K3. I am in the process of setting things up and has some questions. As well just wanted to share the setup options I chose just to make sure they are ok. Under the settings taband then to the radio tab 1. I have set hardware to softRock-IF (as per LP Pan site) is this correct? 2. Sampling rate I am going to use is 96 and I did set the same on the E MU 0202 3. Pitch is set to 600 as is the K3 4. The Audio IF I am not sure what to set that too as I am not running any SDR software. The only answer I could find for the setting of the was to set the Audio IF at -6000 and take away the global offset from your SDR software. I am not using SDR software so is it left at -6000? The Audio tab is set as follows. 1. Sound-card driver is set to MME 2. Signal and Audio devices are set to my E MU 0202 cards 3. Channels was left at Left/Right= I/Q 4. Shift Right channel data was left at 0 samples The Rig tab is set as follows.. 1. Rig K3 2. Com port to be set when I use VSP manager to set up a virtual port pair. 3. Baud 38400 4. Data 8 bits 5. Parity none 6. Stop 2 7. RTS set to Highnot sure about this? 8. DTR set to high as well and not sure about this? 9. Poll set to default 500 10. Time out set to default 4000. Not to concerned about other tabs at this moment in time. [Elecraft] Using the k3 for WSPR
When using WSPR the TX and RX frequencies are not the samefor example on 30m the RX is 10.138700 and the TX is 10.140200. For those of you using the K3 does your read out on the K3 change to the TX freq then the rig goes into transmit? Mine is not and not sure if this is normal or if I have to set something to show this. [Elecraft] K2 alignment and test part 2
In my K2 build I am approaching the alignment and test part 2 stage. I have the Rigol DS1052E scope (software upgraded to 100mhz) I would like to use the scope on my K2 build. I do know there is spectrogram, and features on the K2 that I can use BUT I would like to use the scope as well. I was wondering the following? 1. Can I use the scope when asked to use a frequency counter? 2. Can I use the scope to measure the voltages that are asked to be measured in the alignment checkouts? So for 4 mhz oscillator calibration, PLL Reff oscillator range test, VCO test, VCO alignment and so on can the Rigol scope be used in these and other procedures? I was also wondering I have the XG3 as well and could I use that in 40m band pass filter alignment and what else could the XG3 be used for in the K2 build? Thanks very much for time. [Elecraft] XG3
I am having a hard time getting the XG3 and my PC to communicate with each other. Here is what I havethe XG3 and the KUSB cable. I have hte FTDI software installed and it talks to my KX3 via a KUSB no problem and has been doing this for close to a year. The XG3 (with a separate KUSB cable) was hooked up to my PC via a USB port. A "new hardware" box came up and I followed the prompts. But the XG3 and my pc are not talking. I f Us the KUSB cable from my KX3 and set it to that port there is no problem and the XG3 can talk via the KX3 port. I want to do the SSB Nul procedure and there fore I have to have both the KX3 and XG3 up and running on my pc. In the XG3 software the com ports seem to be limited...meaning for some reason they are not showing all USB ports on my PC?? I have tried to set up communication with all the ports that the XG3 software shows but there is no communication at all. I have had the KXBC3 installed for some time now in the KX3. I have not been able to read the voltage reading in VFO B for about 2 weeks now. Just thought it was a menu setting and was going to look into it later. Today is field day and the internal batteries were charged last night. I now wanted to get the voltage reading up on VFO B. The rig works on the internal batteries but when I check the menu BAT CHG the message I get is not inST. If I try to change it to installed I am not able to do that.not sure what is up here. I have decided to sell my Elecraft K2 setup. I have the KX3 and K3 and have found the K2 is sitting on the desk doing absolutely nothing. The rig can be used for portable operation and as a100 watt base station. The rig and all accessories were built by me. The K2 was aligned and checked out by Dave Raycroft - VA3RJ who is listed on the Elecraft website as a builder. I have the documentation that Dave gave me when he gave the K2 a clean bill of health and aligned it. [Elecraft] K2 meter alignment issue
On page 48 of the K2 manual the S-meter alignment is done. I was able to get the Cal S low done just fine. When I then moved on to the Cal S HI ( with the RF gain fully counter clockwise) I was not able go get any segments of the S meter to light up. I adjusted the VFO full circle and not one segment of the S meter would light up. The AGC voltage was adjust to 3.80 volts DC without any problem. Also I read on the list of a similar problem and Don suggested to check RP6 pin's 9 and 10 and U6 pin 3 (all on the control board) I reheated and soldered these, actually all the pins on U6 and RP6 and this did not solve the problem. [Elecraft] Resistance checks on RF board page 38
Good evening all, just making my way through the K2 build and had was wondering about some resistance check results. On R115 and U1 pins 4,9,10,28 I am getting readings in the range of 3.9 mega ohms to 5.4 mega ohms. The results sheet advise of results in and around 20k. In the past I have found that the measured amount was somewhat close to the expected manual. To me it just seems a bit high when you are to see greater than 20K and the measured amount is in the Mega ohmsis this normal?The last measurement question I have is for R1 and R2. [Elecraft] KX3 has a ping noise
Good afternoon all, while operating my KX3 when the keyer is released I hear a "ping" in my headphones. It happens on 21, 28 and 18Mhz, I have changed the headphones and also put the KX3 on a dummy load as well. Not sure if I inadvertently tuned on some type of option? On the control board check out on page 22 of the Elecraft manual I did the resistance checks but on U6 pin 29 I got 95 K and on U6 pin 30 I got the same. The acceptable range is 70-90 K I was wanting to make sure all is well before assuming? [Elecraft] RFI showing up on the P3
I was on my K3 this evening and I have the P3 with the external monitor as well. My PC has two monitors one being the AOCe235F and the other is the AcerX233H. As I was watching my K3 signals on the external monitor the PC monitors went into sleep mode and so did lost of RFI on the P3 external monitor! Seems I am getting some RFI from the monitors (this was on 18mhz and is the worst of all bands) Below is a link to my blog posting about the issue with some pictures as well. [Elecraft] KXBC3 charging
Good afternoon all, I installed the KXBC3 in my KX3 last night and it had no error messages or problems.up until now. Here is what I did and what is happening. 1. Batteries that are installed are Ansmann 2850 MaH NiMH brand new min charge on them if any. 2. Put time on KX3 for 16 hours of charge time and left the Astron power supply for full 16 hours. 3. In the morning after charge time tried to turn KX3 on with just battery power. It would not and found out needed to lower min voltage from 10v to 8.5v. 4. After doing this the rig came on and was fine on battery power. 5. Took rig to the park this morning and it failed to start again. Double checked at home to make sure the new min volt setting saved and it did. I then moved the min setting to the lowest value which was 8.2 volts. 6. On the display I am getting the following now PS. 13.6 volts (not sure way that as voltage on my Fluke meter at the Jack before it goes into the KX3 reads 13.8v) BT is reading 8.8v but is is fluctuating from 8.1v to 8.8v at times. Now even with an internal battery reading of 8.8 or a little less the rig should still turn on?? The only other thing I can think if is the 2850 MaH batteries need more than 16 hours of charge time? Well Elecrafters I am getting impatient (in a good way not bad) waiting for my back ordered KXBC3 charger and KXPD3 keyer. The serial number of my KX3 is 1990how close am I to a Christmas gift of my last remaining items?? To be honest it is disheartening to read of new orders shipping and customers receiving these items and I am on a waiting list because I decided to order early. Since I am being open here.I also emailed Elecraft on 4 occasions to 3 different departments to specific people asking to send just the key for the KX3 and I would pay what ever was required as the keys are in stock and shipping...as opposed to the order waiting for the KXBC3 order to be filled. Unfortunately all emails were not answered and to say the least I was shocked. Anyway my serial number is 1990 and just wondering how close I was to a shipping date?? [Elecraft] Your thoughts on running SDR on a Mac
Good morning, I am the proud owner of a KX3 and was wanting to give the SDR capabilities of the radio a go. I own an Imac computer so I am in the market for Mac friendly SDR software. The only program I have come across is DL2SDR's program 1. Has anyone used this program and if so what are your thoughts? 2. If you are a KX3 owner and used DL2SDR how was the setup? 3. Is there any support (Yahoo group, other email groups) for this program? 4. Are there any other Mac SDR programs out there...I was only able to find DL2SDR's? The other option I was considering was purchasing Parallel desktops 8 and running a windows SDR program on the Mac. 1. Is there Mac owners out there who have run Parallelswhat are your thoughts on the program? 2. Which windows SDR program are you running on your Mac? [Elecraft] No CW decode on K3 or P3
Im in the CQ WW and some are just sending at bullet speed have noticed K3 and P3 are not decoding anything. On the K3 just the VFO freq is displayed it does not even attempt to show code. I have the test dec set to 30-90 (have tried other settings) and threshold has tried all as well. Is there a setting in the K3 were I shut down the decode?? [Elecraft] soldering SMD's
I ordered K6XX's CW indicating light for my Elecraft k2 and it has some (resistors and caps) SMD's I am going to have to work with. I have been reading on the internet about ways to instal these comments. I have read about using solder paste as this helps to place them and kinds steady’s them while soldering. Any thoughts on this method?? The only SMD work I did was on my K3 with the DC mod for powering the P3 with the K3. The soldering job was not pretty at all any input on soldering SMD's would be appreciated. [Elecraft] Success with KX3 transmit Bias calibration test
I had received some emails from Gary and Vic at Elecraft today regarding my failure to complete the transmit bias test on the KX3. The trouble turned out to be my power supply to the KX3 was not putting out the current needed to run the test. I was needing in the ball park of 3 amps from the supply that apparently it was not giving. I hooked the KX3 up to the Astron supply and the test ran textbook perfect. [Elecraft] batteries for the KXBC3
Good evening all, now that the KXBC3 charger is shipping and we all are awaiting it's arrival!! I have been doing some research online for some NiMH batteries I came across and ordered the Ansmann 2850 mAh AA batteries. These batteries are from Germany and offer a 2 year warranty. Unlike some of the Chinese NiMH batteries that offer over the top mAh ratings these truely are 2850 mAh. I have no connection with the Ansmann company but check it out for yourself the reviews, the cost is 20.00 for a pack of 4 but from what I have seen they are well worth the $$. [Elecraft] Am I the only one not getting the KX3 trans bias cal test???
I was just wondering if I am the only one having troubles with one of the cal testsnamely the Transmit bias test. It is just not working for me. I posted on this site, Elecraft's nabble and even sent an email to Elecraft. All post have netted no comments at all. In the past I have had great response to questions this time nothing. Well going to try again below is the problem I am having. I was attempting to run the transmit bias test and all that is happening is both for CW and SSB when I press XMIT on the LCD I get a reading of .04A ranging up to .09A and Q6 below that. The instructions say this test is to take between 3-10 sec my test was into 1.5 minutes. The LCD just continued to role between .04A and .09A. I tried SSB and the same thing happend just the numbers were from .08A-.18A again with Q6 below the reading. I was not getting an error message and there was nothing on the BNC connector and I did unlock the TX Bias menu. After completing the KX3 serial 1990 I have the two number 4 washers leftover. They are on page A4 of the assembly manual sixth down from the top. I did a search in the PDF manual for them and the only result that comes back is page A4 where they are listed as a part. [Elecraft] KX3 roofing filter touching DC jack
Good afternoon all, almost done putting my KX3 kit together I have the roofing filter installed and when asked to on page 32 of assembly manual to fit the top and bottom covers of the KX3 I have a fitting issue. The top left is not fitting flush as is the top right corner is. It seems to me the DC jack is bottoming out on the roofing filter board. I have removed the roofing filter board and all fits fine. I have very carefully looked to see if the roofing filter is seated and it is also the long screw fit no problem into the roofing filter board to hold it in place as well...any ideas?? [Elecraft] K3 and WSPR rig stays in TX mod
I have been emailing a fellow ham regarding some WSPR troubles. The rig is an Elecraft K3 and it seems to be stuck in TX and will not switch back to receive. The rig has to be shut down and restarted to clear the problem. I did have this same problem with WSPR and my K3 some time ago but am not able to remember what I did to solve the problem. I have a small desktop regulated power supply rated at 13.5 volts DC nominal, 3.0 amps max continuous, 5.0 amps max. Can I use this to run the KX3 while it's desktop? [Elecraft] New never used complete KAT100 case also EC2 parts.
I purchased the KAT100-1 kit and before it was built I decided to order the EC2 enclosure to mount the KAT100 and KPA100 units in it. I have a never used KAT100-1 complete case along with a pair of the anti slide brackets. NOTE this kit does not include the hardware such as 2D fasteners or screws. Also the following panels from the EC2 enclosure.Front panel, top cover, rear panel. What is not included is the bottom cover andy side panels. I spoke with Elecraft and the KAT100-1 case only sells for 100.00.I will sell all the above including shipping for 70.00 Canadian if you would like pictures I can send them to you.
