Timing is everything! The Earth-facing half of the sun is currently extremely quiet, SFI is around 112, down from nearly 200. The sun rotates in roughly 28 days [various latitudes do so at somewhat different rates] so try again in about 14-20 days. 73, Fred ["Skip"] K6DGW Sparks NV DM09dn Washoe County SFI: The S&P 500 of solar studies Ray Albers wrote on 4/3/2024 7:00 PM: 20 years ago, or thereabouts, when I lived in Northern VA I was a pretty regular checkin on the Elecraft CW Net with my little KX-1. Good thinking. The Collins Collectors Assn. net has been on 14.263 @ 2000Z for many years. Re: [Elecraft] ECN spreadsheet data
Hi Kevin, Sorry to hear of the crash. The document files in most of these programs like Star Office are really zip files. If you change the suffix to .zip and then open them, you can usually extract a set of other files. These are often XML or such and can be parsed for content. --Oliver W6ODJ On 12 Jan. 2014, at 15:30 PM, kev...@coho.net wrote: > I have the ECN data from before the hard drive crash but cannot read it. > I have tried LibreOffice and OpenOffice. Re: [Elecraft] ECN-CW
Being on the west coast I'm not sure I'll be able to do you much good but I'll try. I sometimes hear stations that Kevin doesn't particularly in the QRN season. At the time of the 40m ECN the band is a little short for the east coast from here but I usually hear K1THP a few dB above the noise. My propagation predictor says its usually a very lossy double F-layer hop and marginal with a 5 watt or less signal. Much better chance a station in the mid-west will be able to relay. Keep trying. Someone will get you through. 73, Brian, K0DTJ On 12/4/2011 5:32 PM, alb...@embarqmail.com wrote: > It’s very seldom that my little KX-1 (#608) with my stealth doublet can make > it all the way from NC to KD5ONS. > > It’s especially disappointing that none of the four stations that blasted in > here 599 plus on the 40m net – who I would think MUST have been able to hear > me, at least a little – would relay. [Elecraft] ECN 7 Sep 2008 - 20m
WOW! What a change from a month ago! Kevin was 109. Bet no one has ever gotten that report before! I heard him acknowledge me, copied nothing of what he said other than the last 3 of my call but did hear him sign over to me. I put the amp on at 1.2 KW and beam NNW, don't know if he copied me, did not hear him again for several minutes. A month ago, Kevin was 589 to 10 over down here in N. Cal. I guess it's a testament to what E-skip can do, even at lower frequencies than we normally think of it working. "109" is also a testament to the K3 RX! Once Lyle told us that NR is really an FIR filter designed to ignore the noise and enhance the signal, I use it most of the time now. With NB and NR off, there was no discernible signal on the frequency. We'll see how 40 goes tonight, I think I'll be able to get to the rig at 0200Z. Oh, and note to Elecraft: Ignore all of my earlier whining about not enough audio in the headphones. I was exploring my radio today and found that, despite everything I had said in previous postings, the AF Gain was set at LO. :-( There's plenty of audio in the cans now even for the deaf old guy! I love this radio [in the amateur radio sense]! Don fixed a problem in my K2 and aligned it for me recently. [Elecraft] ECN Addenda - Storm warning
Good Evening, I just received a weather prediction for tomorrow afternoon and evening. It appears I may have to close down for a while because of lightning. If I am not on the air or disappear suddenly that is the cause. Sorry, but I kind of like my equipment in an unsmoked state. Same goes for the lowly net operator too! 73, Kevin. [Elecraft] ECN - Flying Pig QRM
I never got a response to my query about the Flying Pig RTFB so it appears we will have to deal with a lot of QRM on the 40 meter net. The net time and frequency was chosen long ago to avoid contests but this new contest started up right on top of us. I don't want to move the net time but we could try to find a more open frequency since the FP folks can not hear us very well. Any suggestions for where to move so we can avoid Flying Pig QRM? Kevin. Hello, I found an open frequency on 20 meters: 14055 khz. I worked one station during the 12 minutes I was on the air. W6ZH found me and went on his way; most likely finding a new one in the bedlam which was twenty. He gave me a 339 after I sent him an S3. Guess it is just too nice a day. Well, that was about as weak as it gets, nearly everyone. I was running a KW, driven by the K2/100, to a 3el tribander pointed north. In fact, turning the antenna has little effect on N. OR and S. WA stations, I think the take-off angle is too low. Thanks to the K2 rx, Kevin was running 319, unless the QSB got him. No one was above S2, although with the antenna N, that might account for some of it. There was a C-class x-ray flare about 0900Z, don't know if that had something to do with it. I still think the earlier time is worth a shot for awhile. [Elecraft] ECN and stuff
Howdy Folks, I got home this evening, after giving another ECOM lesson at the ARES meeting, and found the lights on! Yippee, I get to have hot, running water. What a great Christmas present! I tried launching an antenna today but was interrupted by the insurance adjuster. He left a check so I can get some work done on the house. I'll continue my antenna raising project tomorrow after a much needed shower ;) I WILL get an HF antenna back up and running. We will have the Elecraft CW Net Christmas Eve edition. Maybe I should quote the Apollo mission text read for their Christmas mission. Thank you for all the notes I received over this week. I am very glad you folks went ahead with ECN last Sunday without me. I appreciated hearing about you all getting on the net and those who tried and were not heard. I know the bands were in tough shape but trying is all I ask. Tonight I started something in the ARES meeting. We were given a scenario (courtesy of ECN member N3AO, Carter Craigie) I wrote a message using the ICS-213 format. Then I stood up and got over fifty people to copy it. Acting as a lightning rod for the EC was my purpose. I was thanked and I was vilified. However, one word of thanks trumps twenty people with lesser intentions. The ratio was not nearly that extreme. Thanks Carter, with your hints and assistance we will have much more message handling training for our group. The class I gave on Saturday is now a quarterly event with prospective instructors in the wings. Simply making the effort and making a few mistakes along the way has born marvelous fruit. I will keep swinging; you can't hit a home run unless you strike out now and then. To reiterate: we will be having a little get together on Christmas Eve. I hope for good band conditions so we can all meet again. Just a short hello and back to your family. Since losing Pat I have you all as my family. I enjoy hearing from you whenever you are able to join us. Oh, Sam and the beaver folks say, "Howdy and Merry Christmas!" Thank you very much, Kevin. I still have a J-pole up so I got my nephew to help me limb the hemlock and cover the roof with plastic. Luckily the wind and rain came to an end. It has snowed but that is not as bad. The water I had standing by in five gallon buckets froze but that simply made it easier to transfer into the bathroom. I used a pan to transfer the top few inches in the toilet tank and the poured to the fill line. I've run out of back up water so am going to a beaver pond tomorrow to steal some of their's. I don't think they will mind because their pond is spring fed. I'll get a few more days of flushing water. I have cut my way down the mountain and have gotten more supplies. Line noise was the normal S2, and visual check on the tower revealed still more or less vertical with antenna at the top. SWR was normal at 1.2:1 Global Warming? Hi Kevin, How did battery ops go? I listened for you here in FL, whilst building the front panel board of the K2,but 40M appeared too long for stateside. Didn't even hear Tom (N0SS). [Elecraft] ECN Report
Hi, Kevin. Some months ago I tried to check it and couldn't hear anyone. After replacing my antenna with one much higher, I' now able to work several US stations and DX so I tried to check in this net tonight. 40m in my QTH was very noisey and I could not hear a single cw station on/around 7045khz. Perhaps next week. 80m was VERY quiet!! Clark ke4rq ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] ECN - Info on 20m jammer
Thank you Ray. I've included a note to move up or down for tomorrow's 20 meter net if anyone hears the music. Hopefully my 'hearing' will not be impaired too much by working from a city with a less than optimal antenna. If all goes well I'll pull your KX1 out from the noise floor. But, your KX1 has done phenomenally well thus far; Wayne must have put a little something extra into that one ;) However, a good antenna and a bit of hardline has won a certain op from Colorado a great signal up into the wilderness above Buxton! I do hope tomorrow's nets go well for many reasons. We can have our usual enjoyment and some ARES/CERT folks can see the big grin on the Net Op 5th Class' face :) I get a big kick out of running these two nets each week and would miss them dearly if I could not run them. Thank you for all the enjoyment I've received over the years, Kevin. [Elecraft] ECN addenda -- the rest of the story
I just got a note from Ron, AC7AC. He was not running his KX1 but rather his K2/100 at 100 watts. Propagation is a strange thing! I was capturing what little I could hear of his signal via a weak NVIS connection it appears. He said I was the weakest station on ECN. Luckily W6ZH was listening so he could relay AC7AC from Southern California. After Pete told me Ron was calling I copied him but not very well. Who ever said radio was a science? Kevin. [Elecraft] ECN on 20 Preliminary report
While running the Elecraft CW Net on 20 meters, 14050.50 kHz, I was unable to copy at least two prospective callers. The first one faded into the music and the second one was sending my call over and over. There was jamming again but it was not specifically aimed at us. At first I thought it was auroral propagation but then I started to hear it better. There was music in it. Next week I will try moving further away to avoid this if it is still occuring. To the person sending my call sign: I know KD5ONS, I send it a lot. I suggest you send your call over and over so I can copy it through the deep QSB. If you send my call we'll never connect. To the other op: such is life; I was not able to dig you out. I do believe it was K2HYD but could not confirm it. I got a K2 and then a D. Ray fits the pattern but normally will respond to any sort of query about him in the affirmative. Conditions were tough due to the jamming signal so I'll work out a better plan for next week. See you in less than 30 minutes. Kevin. KD5ONS ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] ECN 20M session for 30 July from VY2/W1OH
Well, I tried!VY2/W1OH here on vacation east of Charlottetown, PEI. Have the KX1 (#1317) at about 4 watts plus a real antenna: 80M doublet fed with twinlead at about 55 feet, and facing west about 100 yards from saltwater! Unfortunately, the band was changing rapidly, I guess, at our sunset (fabulous sunset, BTW! Always great here!) . One moment Kevin was reasonably strong, and had just got my call, I think, then poof! QSB took signals right out and I didn't hear more than a couple of peeps after that - oh, well!Great fun to try from Prince Edward Island, especially after a weekend with a bit of IOTA then the FOBB contest! Well, that was a confirmation of the K2 RX! Heard Kevin at the noise but readable on the K2. Unfortunately, I screwed something up while making the 40m parasitic mod to the KPA100, and I can't transmit on the K2 right now. Called on the TS-850, and found I couldn't hear him at all. Well, as the propagation gods would see to it, Kevin was 589 on 20m when he started to call the net and announced his need to QRT and ground his antennas due to large electrical displays overhead. On the other hand, he was 439 on 40m when I was about to QNI. I've got some problem in the KAT100 or the K2/100 on 40 because it appears to tune and work fine until I send for a little bit, and then the SWR (as displayed by the KAT100) goes berserk and everything shuts down. It happens with the KAT100 on, and with it in CAL mode when I use the outboard antenna tuner. Everything works OK at 800W with the TS-850/SB220, so I'm not thinking of a problem in the DX Engineering balun at the bottom of the tower. Besides, it's rated at 10KW and 14KV. Kinda thinking it's RF somewhere where it shouldn't be, but haven't had time to look into it. I'll take the KAT100 out of the system and see what happens. Anyway, I tried. Well, finally got home from the Cactus Intertie Annual Meeting. Kevin was much stronger on 20 from Lake Havasu City than here in N. Cal. I was at the pool at the Hampton Inn with my KX1 @ 1.7W (6 half-dead AA's ... I really need to prepare better for these events). 26' strung over the umbrellas about 6.6' high, with 20' radial wrapped around the bottom rung of the steel fence around the pool. I thought about tossing it INTO the pool but decided that wasn't a great idea since kids were swimming and who knows what Mom and Dad would have thought. Tom was barely readable ... until he turned his beam SW, at which point he was way too strong. Sorry I sort of disappeared, I had a number of onlookers and finally decided I needed to explain what I was doing before they called Homeland Security on me. WX: Clear and 75. [Elecraft] ECN 12-12-05 Report(s)
Hi Folks: I called both of the Elecraft CW Nets (20M and 40M) this week in Kevin's absence. WHERE WAS THE EAST COAST??? I heard NO(!) signals from anyone from the east... and as it turned out, only a few from the west... but at least a few nonetheless. It was good to have Mark, KJ7BS, check in on both bands, unfortunately, each time he sent his K2 serial number he went into a DEEP fade (both bands)... kinda like the Gods didn't want me to copy it... heheh! I hope I managed to pull it thru correctly. I was startled to hear Wayne, N6KR, check in during the 20M net. Good sigs, Wayne. But of course, we'd have expected nothing less! Here is a note I received from our compatriot across the Pacific. I think he lives near "The Island of the Day Before" for all you Ecco fans! He lists a few stations he heard on the net with their RST. Looks like yesterday was a booming signal day across the world. Hope to hear you all next week. Might have to start calling by zone again ;) 73, Kevin. --- Forwarded message --- From: Mike <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: ECN Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2005 06:17:12 +1200 Hi Kevin! Yes, I purposely waited for the end of the net to give you a call also!! You were readable here throughout, your sigs varying from a high of 349 to a low of 229! The only others heard here were AH6RE who varied from 579 to 449. N0SS who varied from 429 to (mostly)559 AC7AC at 329. andW6SJ at 339. A heap of the others were detectable by ear, but with nil copy. Two errors in last night's report. Russ - N9IV - was running his K2 at near QRP levels. I knew it was low power so took a chance on it being his KX1. Whoops! The next error was for: Ken - N5EBD - running a vintage K1-40/20 with S/N - 34. Now that his rig is getting broken in it is doing yeoman duty for him. Welcome to ECN Ken! Not an error but an addition: Dick - W0NTA - was running in eclectic mode last night. Elecraft Net, Yaesu hat, Icom radio, and a roof mounted SteppIR antenna all from his mountain get a way. Tough life Dick! I am glad your antenna projects are doing well. Until we meet again next Sunday, Kevin. KD5ONS (Error Prone Net Op) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. [Elecraft] ECN/30 Tomorrow - 10.107.2 @ 0100z
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow evening (Thursday in the Western Hemisphere) we will meet again for another round of ECN/30. This will be my last 'bachelor' edition as next week is the wedding rehearsal. Last week, we had a great turnout (I think 5-6), and I was ready to post my net notes to the list, but during the efforts to keep the house tidy, they seem to have been misplaced (I need to start keeping my notes 'in' my notebook). Thank you all who checked in, and I look forward to all of those that will be checking in tomorrow night. 73, Daniel / AA0NI ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. K6DGW's KX1 S/N is #897. I guess it got lost in transmission. I was surprised at the signal strengths out here on the frontier ... NK8Q was easily a "real" 569 as was Daniel. 0100Z works pretty good for us PDT types unless we have family or friends over for dinner. 73, Fred K6DGW Auburn CA CM98lw Daniel Reynolds wrote: > > Just a quick note to acknowledge all who checked in last evening. [Elecraft] ECN/30 tomorrow 10.107.2 @ 0100z
Barring any earth shaking matters personally affecting me in the next 24-36 hours, I will be calling for check-ins tomorrow evening on 30m at 0100z. Look for us on 10.107.2 +/- 2 kHz. The net will start at about 0100z, and will hopefully not last any later than 0200z. For those of us who are UTC challenged and are still dealing with daylight savings time - the net starts at 9E/8C/7M/6P. Last week was interesting - I've unfortunately been so busy, that the notes I took have remained unstudied since I closed last week's net that I haven't been able to produce a net report (my fiance and I are working on finishing touches to the house before she and her kids move into the house in May). Time outside of work has been pretty much consumed in organizing, cleaning, and tossing (that's the nice way of saying that I'm a habitual pack rat with no place to store it all). Oh - by the way - there won't be an ECN/30 on Thursday, April 28 (that's the evening of our rehearsal dinner). Maybe it would be better to say that I won't be calling the net that night - but folks can still congregate there and have fun. 73, Daniel AA0NI Oklahoma City ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. FW: [Elecraft] ECN/30 - Frequency
K.I.S.S. Why not choose: 10,102.7 10,103.7 10,104.7 10,105.7 10,106.7 10,107.7 10,108.7 10,109.7. Then, you tune in the net (at 10Hz) 10,102.70, and then set the rate to 1KHz. Each VFO step is another freq. Very little dial twiddling needed to QSY up one, two, three or so "channels". Once you've zero-beat the "group" on any freq (at 10Hz rate), going back to 1KHz rate will keep them zero-beat (if you pick the right channel. You may expand or modify the list, but please leave everything right of the radix alone. The 'x' in 10.1x2.7 and 10.1x7.2 can stand for any number that results in a legal operating frequency inside the 30m band. This means that ECN/30 could meet on any one of the following frequencies: 10.102.7 10.107.2 10.112.7 10.117.2 10.122.7 10.127.2 10.132.7 10.137.2 10.142.7 10.147.2 I've found that I've been run off the net frequencies I've picked on 30m a few times, so to make it easier to find the net and avoid QRM - I took a hint from another member on the elecraft list and decided to pick frequencies that aren't "cardinal" frequencies (e.g. frequencies that end in 5.0 or 0.0 like 10.115.0) where you are likely to run into non-QRP ops with less than sensitive radios when compared to the elecraft kit radios. The first frequencies I tried one week were just randomly picked - but when I realized 5 minutes before the net that week that I didn't remember what frequencies I posted to the list, I decided to just pick something that was easier to remember. Since many elecrafters are QRP ops, I figured that 72 was easy to remember - and likewise - 27. That's why the ECN/30 net can meet on any of the 30m frequencies that end in 2.7 or 7.2. Also - because it is easy to get run off a frequency when running a QRP net, I want others to know that we can very quickly re-establish the net on another frequency that is pre-determined - that's why there's more than one net frequency - in case the frequency is in use - or in case a less than 'sensitive' operator, digital station, or DX/pileup runs us off the frequency we are trying to use. I hope this explains my reasoning and makes it easier for everyone to find the net. 72/73, Daniel AA0NI Oklahoma City ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] ECN/30 - New UTC time
Just a reminder that the ECN/30 will be meeting Thursday at 8E/7C/6M/5P (0100 UTC Friday). I've moved to a later hour to accomodate for the later local sunset (propagation). It will have the added advantage of allowing those who live in the west to check in after they get home from work. We will try to keep this 0100z time slot through the DST time shift this weekend - so next week, it will be Thursday 9E/8C/7M/6P (0100 UTC Friday). Due to the low power nature of the net (and net control), our frequency is flexible. We will meet on 10.1x2.7 or 10.1x7.2 - depending on QRM. If we get bumped off the frequency we started on, look for net control calling on another. Turn out has been pretty low for the last month. Hopefully with the later hour, we'll have more folks check in. 73, Daniel AA0NI Oklahoma City K2 #3421 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] ECN/30 report
Last night, I ended up calling on 10.112.7 because I was hearing some occasional broadband digital QRM on 10.102.7, and someone was calling near 10.107.2 just before the net started. The one and only check-in was Rick/WA3TUU in Michigan. Next week, I'm going to try calling the net one hour later (0100z - 8E/7C/6M/5P) to take advantage of the longer spring evenings and folks who get home later. If this works well, we may end up transitioning to 0100z (9E/8C/7M/6P) for spring when DST takes effect next month. I will be calling for check-ins on one of the following frequencies: 10.102.7 10.107.2 10.112.7 10.117.2 10.122.7 10.127.2 ... [Elecraft] ECN/30 Thursday evening - with a twist
Last week we were run off 10115 by a DX station and the ensuing DX pileup. This week, we'll try to run ECN/30 with an interesting twist. You will find me calling for QNI on one of the following 30m frequencies: 10.103.7 10.112.3 10.118.4 10.126.2 10.134.6 These were all picked randomly by me on a whim - so who knows what - if any - interference we will experience. [Elecraft] ECN/30 report
Someone once wisely suggested picking a non-cardinal frequency for the ECN - and I think I really need to heed that advice next week - so watch for an odd frequency (e.g. 10118.7) for the net next week. Running QRP-10W has it's disadvantages - especially when a DX station (TO7K/TO7C?) starts calling on top of your net, and then you try to QSY up and wind up in the middle of the DXers trying to call the DX. The net started off quite nicely with AI4BJ/Mark in KY (K2 #3862 - RST 579). Shortly after that, the DX station popped up. My first attempt to move involved a QSY up to 10115.5 - then I started hearing the DXers calling. Then I tried to announce another QSY to 10114.5. So, if you were looking for the net and having a tough time locating it, I finally ended up on 10114.5, and had no more check-ins after calling for about 10-15 minutes. I then decided to make the best of the evening, and tried calling CQ - and immediately was greeted by two replies. The stronger signal was W4ZLU/Bill in AL. We had a very solid path since I was 589 (and he was s9+10dB at 50W). Tuning around shortly after my contact, I did hear W4ATK (with N2KZ) mentioning that he had a K2 at 10W - coincidentally, on 10115 - so, I'm sorry if you were looking for the ECN. The YL/'pre-Master Control' here has given me the okay to play radio while she sleeps in Saturday morning - so I'm looking forward to working all of those Elecraft S/N's out there. 73, Daniel AA0NI Oklahoma City ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] ECN Report
I started the net on 10114 after hearing some weak signals on 10115. There were 5 check-ins on 30m. It seems like I must have a tunnel to Michigan tonight because 4 of the 5 were from there. NA8M John MI [579] K2/100 AB8KJ Chuck MI [589] K2/100 #2596 WA3TUU Rick MI [559] very weak at first - but easier to copy towards the end N4SO Ken AL [579] K2 #3394 K8NWD Tim MI [599] K2 #0076 Only other item to comment on was some QRM from ND9M/MM [599+] near Florida who apparently wasn't hearing the net too well as he was trying to carry on a quick QSO with another station that was too weak to copy here. = The 40 meter net started on time on 7045 and consisted of one check in (actually - a 'recheck' from the 30m net) - also from Michigan :-) AB8KJ Chuck MI [579] K2/100 #2596 I guess tonight was my lucky night for Michigan. Thanks alot to all of you who hung in there as I tried to dig around for more check-ins and also for those who tried to relay my call for check-ins. = If there's anyone interested in trying to repeat 30m on Saturday evening, drop me a quick note, and I'll see if I can clear an hour Saturday evening - either at 2300 or z. Thanks again and 73, Daniel / AA0NI ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] ECN Tonight
Just a reminder that ECN will be this evening (Thursday). 30m: 7E/6C/5M/4P (z) on 10115 40m: 8E/7C/6M/5P (0100z) on 7045 Some info about checking in to the net can be found here: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/aa0ni I'd also be curious if there would be any interest in attempting another 30m net at z on Saturdays (for those on the West coast who are still at work during the week). Just drop me a note directly (off-list). If there's enough interest, I'll see if I can clear my schedule for an hour Saturday night. Thanks again for those that checked in last week, and I look forward to see who checks in tonight. 72/73, Daniel / AA0NI ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] ECN/30 Thursday evening
The mid-week edition of the ECN will be meeting again Thursday evening at 7 PM ET (z) on, or near, 10115. For those too close to make it on 30m, I'll run a 2nd edition immediately afterwards on, or near, 7045 at 8PM ET (0100z). Thanks again to all who checked in last week, and I look forward to see who will check in this week. If you want more info pertaining to how to check in, I've produced a PDF document that you can download from my yahoo briefcase: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/aa0ni Hopefully we'll be organized enough on this end to let everyone have a shot at calling at least one other station for their Elecraft/WAS awards. 73, Daniel/AA0NI Oklahoma City ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] ECN/30 - Success!? (I think)
What about the 0200 net, Daniel? Or didn't it count since I was the only check-in and was running a TT Argonaut? hi. I enjoyed working someone using a K2 and hearing what it sounded like as I hope to build one soon. 73, Dave N7AF ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] ECN/30 - Success!? (I think)
Dan, Nice Job! I was happy to find you right on frequency and right at the top of the hour. You were RST 439 here in Brooklyn but you were slow enough and gave enough repeats that I was able to figure out what was going on just about all the time. It was fun to check into my first Elecraft-centric event. Ran at 10 watts (about twice normal) and had better results than I hoped for. All the rigs I heard sounded great. The receiver on the K2 blows my 'regular' xcvr away. Now I'll have to rearrange the shack! I'm usually not home until about 0130Z, but worked from home today and was glad to be able to participate. Keep up the good work and HOPE CU AGN. 73, Lonnie NY2LJ K2 # 3073 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] ECN/30 - Success!? (I think)
Well - if you never have any goals to aim for, you won't know if you got them. First of all - hats off to Kevin/KD5ONS who does this every week for you guys. Being NCS is fun - but it also can be complicated - as I can see by trying to get through all my chicken scratches. For those who weren't able to join us - it started promptly at z and came to an end around 0030-0040z. I count 10 check ins - I have info on some, but not all (if it's in brackets - it's from QRZ.com) - and your RST is in braces. K6DGW [CA] [FRED] {didn't look sri} W6UR [CA] LOU {599} NY2LJ [NY] [LONNIE] {549} N4GE TN JERRY K2 #1054 {579} K2HYD VA RAY {339} W7WEL ID BILL K2 #4001 {569} W4FOA GA TONY {589} WA5ZNU CA LEIGH {339} K6FM OR JAN {589} W1TF [GA] [RALPH] {589} Many thanks to all of you taking the time to jump in there. Lessons learned include: - 30m is a great band - and was especially cooperative today - can't wait to try it again (maybe for those who are too close for 30, we can try 40m at 0100z?) - 10 wpm was probably overkill - I think many folks were patient with me even though it probably wasn't necessary - unless someone specifically requests it, or checks in with QRS, I'll be at 13-15 wpm. - I made an assumption (bad idea) that some folks might want to exchange S/N's - I'm going to ask you to send QTC when you check in if you want to exchange S/N's (e.g. DE AA0NI DAN OK QNI QTC K) - We're going to have to work at making QNI easier - what I need to have you do when you are checking in after I call QNI? is to send your suffix. I'll respond with your suffix, and you can send your QNI info. For example... == NCS: ECN QNI? DE AA0NI K YOU: XYZ NCS: XYZ YOU: DE K2XYZ JOE NY QNI QNX GE K {Joe wants out early, so he signed QNX} NCS: TU JOE 73 = ECN QNI? K YOU: FA NCS: FA YOU: DE W6FA BILL CA QNI QTC K NCS: TU BILL PSE [AS] ECN QNI? DE AA0NI K {Bill wants to exchange S/N -> QTC} ... - Don't try to keep your list on the same page you are trying to copy by hand - it makes for poor organization Well - that's all for now. Thanks again - and we'll be back on in about an hour to try it some more (10115 +/-2 at 0200z). 73, Daniel / AA0NI Oklahoma City ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
