[Elecraft] K3 & SDR/IQ
Howdy K3' people: I have an SDR/IQ. I also have three Elecraft transverters. When I connect a BNC to the BNC-RX "T" chain, and I tune Spectravue to 28.07 and the 6m xv50 transverter is "on", I am looking at the area around 50.070 .. I can look for beacons and Sporadic-E openings. Nothing new. However, the other day, I suspected the xv50 transverter to on the Fritz. So I switched to the internal 6m Rx/Tx section. Made some contacts. So now I want to once again look for 6m Beacons down below 50.080 . My only option seems to be the IF BNC output. I connected there and tried to set Spectravue for 8.215; 10.0; 28.0 and still see nothing from 6m. I even tried to set it at 50.10, to no avail. You don't say what software you are running but if it's Spectravue, just go to the ExtRadio tab, select the K3 from the drop down list, set the com port, baud rate and check mode tracking. In the SDR-IQ setup, set the filter BW to 100 or 150. Press F12 and you should be in business. LP-Bridge will handle the serial port issue. SpectraView's HF tracking mode doesn't allow for an IF tuning offset on frequencies higher than the design limit of the SDR-IQ itself. I know the IF frequency is well below that, but the software was never supported "tracking panadapter" operation on 6M to the best of my knowledge. You can still see the IF spectrum, but you won't have a operator-transparent tracking ability. I just retrieved my SDR-IQ from the shelf, connected it to the IF loop on my P3, loaded SpectraVue set the External Radio/Panadapter Setup as recommended in the SV help file and was running with a "tracking panadapter" on six meters. I used the 2nd CAT port capability in microHAM USB Device Router to provide the serial splitter function and the K3 tracks clicks in the SV spectrum/waterfall and SV tracks frequency changes from VFO A on the K3. Operation is the same on 6 meters as on 160 through 10. The only issue is the constantly changing IF offset in the K3 (IS) which SpectraVue does not track. This results in a variable frequency error based on mode. 73, ... I use SpectraVue as a panoramic adapter with my K3 and three XV transverters. Connected to the K3's IF out is an SDR-IQ, which is connected using the USB port to my PC. I don't have any issues with a 'variable frequency error' on 6 meters or any other band. [Elecraft] [K3] SDR-IQ, K3 and Etherlogic
I just received SDR-IQ and connected it to K3 via Etherlogic splitter with Logger32. Tnx NI0C and NZ0T for assistance with Etherlogic. The PC was very slow until I removed almost all the automatic startups. Now, SDR-IQ runs smoothly except in a few situations. After coming back from sleep, the frequency in SpectraVue is not updated although the display seems to be OK. Ocassionally, the is a message about RF overdrive even if the antenna is disconnected. Restart cures the problem. After a few hrs there is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). It states as reason a hard drive driver. The only other time that BSOD occurred was when using a USB sound card with HRD. I am running Vista with current upgrades. Any ideas? [Elecraft] K3 + SDR-IQ + CW Skimmer+ SpectraVue
Anyone know if it's possible to configure all four of the above to simultaneously run CW Skimmer and SpectraVue? I have tired every possible iteration to port audio from SpectraVue to CW Skimmer with no luck. I've also tried VAC and still no luck. Bob, What are your specific questions? I have the K3 with SDR-IQ here. I've used it both with the IF connection (as a panadapter) and with an RF connection (RX Out/RX In and a splitter) for CW Skimmer. It was in use for about a year but is off-line at the present - I'm not completely sure the receiver hasn't been damaged and don't have the time to trouble shoot it right now (either RX problem or computer issue). 73, ... Howdy K3' people: I was wondering what precautions are taken, or I need to invoke, when I use any form of transmitting? At present, the SDR-IQ is connected to the K3's IF BNC. K3's output is through KAT500 then outside to the antenna some distance away at 80 to 85 feet AGL. Power, while I am testing, is circa 5 to 10 watts. So I keyed the K3 a few times; called CQ, and so forth. I see my own trace on the WF of CW-Skimmer, which is set to operate with SDR-IQ as its "Input" . Am I golden? Bob, You are OK. There is some bleed-through of the IF output during transmit, and I believe that is what you are seeing. 73. I use a mfj t/r switch on te front end of the sdr and see the same thing. Been using for over a year and the sdr seems fine.
