[Emc-users] video + CNC mill=www

2008-10-27 Thread amtb
Hi
I want to ask help about how to upload video of my CNC machine on my web.
I took 1 college class HTML and build my web www.conceptmachinery.com
It host by hostmonster.com
I only need direction about how to upload 3-5-8 minute video and make it
work.
Any book, web article, etc.
I know that I can upload video on youtube and link to it.
It is good idea also.
How long video on youtube last? 1 week 1 month?

Thanks
Aram

Re: [Emc-users] Realtime system did not load

2008-10-27 Thread Mario Rada
Hi Rob,

thanks for your early reply.

Things are getting odd.

I'm just booting the actual live emc2 cd with ubuntu 8:

System A works properly - ubuntu loads and emc2 is running.

System B does load ubuntu but emc2 is failing:
I tried the sequence of commands prior trying emc2 - see the attached
document I also attached the whole error output from trying to run emc2 in
this document Sorry, there is no blank line or space between the terminal
output and the error output The error output starts on the very first page
with 'Print file information:'
After trying emc2 the keyboard does not work any longer and the system hangs
during shutdown (power off necessary)

System C - the behavior has changed - it now does not even load ubuntu (the
only thing I'm aware of changing is installing OpenSolaris on this System)
During startup of ubuntu I Select language and 'Try ubuntu without any
change to your computer'
'Loading Linux Kernel' is displayed and the progress goes to 100% The ubunu
logo appears and the progress indicator sweeps Suddenly the screen is erased
and displays:
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built in shell (ash) Enter 'help'
for a list of built-in commands
(initramfs) [ 86.721556] usb 7-1: device not accepting address 3, error
-110
[ 97.248014] usb 7-1: device not accepting address 4, error -110
[ 107.774472] usb 7-1: device not accepting address 5, error -110 After
that the system hangs (power off necessary)

Any idea ?
Again - the machine working has no Bluetooth device ???

On the System C (when it was possible to load ubuntu) I tried to unload
bluetooth with rmmod, but it didn't work (says 'in use') Even with sudo and
-f (force) impossible.

Thanks, regards
mario

HI mario

have you checked to see if realtime is running already for some odd reason

quick and dirty way is to run these commands, and try EMC see if it
loads a config

halcmd unloadrt all
sudo /etc/init.d/realtime stop

if you do a , u should see no RT compoents running
lsmod | grep rtai

see if that helps,

I have this on my lathe:
...
# create signals for tool loading loopback
linkpp iocontrol.0.tool-prepare iocontrol.0.tool-prepared
linkpp iocontrol.0.tool-change turret.0.position-change
linkpp turret.0.position-changed iocontrol.0.tool-changed
...

Which works fine.

Do you have your iocontrol.0.tool-change connected to something? If not,
I wonder if EMC2/AXIS is taking this as an incomplete setup. In the past
I have placed dummy connections in the config files to get them to show
up in AXIS.

Just a guess.

I'm not sure where my previous replies went, but they seem to have
evaporated.

I do have a loop back signal from iocontrol.0.tool-preprare to
iocontrol.0.tool-prepared and it appears to function correctly when a
Txx gcode is presented.

I have also checked to ensure that the the switch on the panel is
actually linked to the iocontrol.0.tool-changed pin correctly. Halmeter
shows it change to true when I press the switch.

Thanks,

Grant.

My guess is that if iocontrol.0.tool-changed goes high, your program
should continue. Have you checked this pin with Halmeter to see if it
follows your button position?

[Emc-users] Manual Tool Change Config Question

2008-10-27 Thread Grant Hess
Greetings,

I have a big-iron machine that I have retrofitted to EMC and have almost
completed the integration.

One remaining issue is still causing me grief. I cannot get a program
to continue running after a M6 command is executed.

I have a pushbutton on the console that is connected to the
iocontrol.0.tool-changed pin (via parport), but this doesn't seem to be
enough. I'm sure I'm missing something 8)

Can someone point me to some documentation on how to configure using
manual tool change, please.

Thanks,

Grant Hess.

There are few enough of us and we don't want to loose someone who might be a

contributor to improving things ala emc, so please don't take it personal,
I'm just being my usual grumpy old (74) fart.

Its just that answers to a question asked, the person replying should make
use
of the down arrow to place the cursor under the question, and type the
answer
there so that the continuity is maintained in chronological order. Or
placed
at the bottom of the original post. As you can see, I tend to address
concerns in the order stated. And its ok to snip unrelated material too. :)

Usually, but not always, indicated with a

For sometimes quicker answers, fire up your fav IRC client, goto
irc.freenode.net, and "/join #emc" where you can generally find a few
knowledgeable folks to give advice. But that doesn't wind up in the
archives
for others to search either unless you leave a copy running and keeping a
local logfile for your own use. That will need filtering too as it can have

lots of 'seasoning' at otherwise boring times, same as any IRC channel I've
visited. :)

Actually, the IRC channel _is_ logged:

Google has access to the logs, and a google search for an EMC related
question sometimes finds the answer there.

Up to this point (been lurking more than a year) I have had trouble
navigating the website. Seeing the documentation link below I failed to see
the HTML selection. Now that I see it, its much more helpfull. Perhaps a
suggestion to make the link to the HTML page more visible.

Previously, I had my machine running a version preceding the debut of
Stepconf. I can read my way through the ini and hal files keeping the
integrator's manual up.

Time and a z axis sleep issue with my Hobbycnc board kept me from doing much
cutting. Since Kim's posts on the Hobbycnc issues and workarounds, I now
have a modified board that does not lose steps on G0's (particularly the Z).

Getting back to this I wanted to try out the Stepconf and hopefully tune
this machine up properly for once.

With this resetting of my INI files, I redid my latency tests and found that
I have a max jitter of 38500ns. According to that manual It recommended
limiting to half and full step - therefore my reaosning to go full step for
now.

I will consult the stepconf manual for the correct number to enter for full
step.

Thanks for this, I ran quite a few trials of the stepconf routine and
constantly switching these off was a pain. In addition, the Hobby CNC board
has the Step and Direction pins switched with the default settings so I was
basiucally swapping every pin anyway.

Again thanks for your help. I am hoping to get this beast running over the
coming week inbetween a home boiler install and a basement floor pour. So
hopefully it will happen.

There are few enough of us and we don't want to loose someone who might be a
contributor to improving things ala emc, so please don't take it personal,
I'm just being my usual grumpy old (74) fart.

Its just that answers to a question asked, the person replying should make use
of the down arrow to place the cursor under the question, and type the answer
there so that the continuity is maintained in chronological order. Or placed
at the bottom of the original post. As you can see, I tend to address
concerns in the order stated. And its ok to snip unrelated material too. :)

For sometimes quicker answers, fire up your fav IRC client, goto
irc.freenode.net, and "/join #emc" where you can generally find a few
knowledgeable folks to give advice. But that doesn't wind up in the archives
for others to search either unless you leave a copy running and keeping a
local logfile for your own use. That will need filtering too as it can have
lots of 'seasoning' at otherwise boring times, same as any IRC channel I've
visited. :)

1: You are top posting, which puts the answers ahead of the question.
Generally frowned on. :)

2: There are those of us who use a usb key, but because usb's new device

plugged into the usb bus when actually cutting parts. Other than that
caveat, they are handier than sliced bread.

For newcomers, my vote goes to usb sticks. No messy networking to figure
out,
username/passwords to remember and they are miles ahead of floppies from
a reliability standpoint. You do, however have to remember to take them out
of the source machine and to the EMC machine ;^) In our case, the house has
aluminum siding preventing wireless from working and we haven't made the
time
and gone to the trouble of running CAT5 to the shop.
And as was mentioned earlier, copy the GC files from USB to the EMC hard
disk
and remove the stick when cutting.

Ubuntu also knows sftp which is a secure ftp based on the secure
shell daemon. I gave up using regular ftp years ago both at home and
at work to move files around because it passes the username and
password in clear text. sftp encrypts the username and password exchange.

The manual is here

http://www.linuxcnc.org/docview/html//config_stepconf.html

and in your Integrator Manual under the Quick Start Section if you did a live
CD
Install...

The Driver Microstepping is what your drive requires not what you want it to be
because of latency issues. Get the short Getting Started Guide from this page

I agree and what the heck I might even take a crack at it...
