Hi again Gene!

Yes, your access rights are probabely not set as they should.

Maybe a chmod 750 on your files after the chown apache:apache ?

It goes on the same on saturday 11.30 PM (GMT) :

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://gene.homelinux.net:85/gene/emc/4xis-

The following error was encountered:

Question: is the port 85 in your URL normal ?

It works fine here.

Gene probably has to use port 85 because his service
provider blocks web servers on port 80 on non-business

They will of course deny it as doing so takes them out of the common carrier

Hi Gene.

Apache needs to be owner of files, so giving full access is relevant, and
doesn't care about group and other.

I mainly use x5x mode since when it applies to directory the +x flag changes of
meaning.

Of course xx0 is of common sense for paranoïd sysadmins, and guru paranoïd

[Emc-users] could not merge

2009-07-11 Thread Stuart Stevenson
Gentlemen,
   6.06
   git
   trunk
   did a 'git pull' this morning and received a message the download
could not merge the 'Makefile'
   I checked permissions and ownership of my 'Makefile'
   The ownership was/is the same as all the other files in that directory
   this seemed innocuous so I changed my personally modified Makefile
to another name
   redid the git
   I checked the permissions/ownership of the new Makefile and my
renamed Makefile
   The permissions/ownership of the files are the same
   I diffed the files and saw the only change (other than my personal
changes) was a destdir in two places
   I made my changes in the new Makefile - no problem as they are not extensive
   What can I do to allow git to merge the changes into my 'Makefile'?
   Are there 'git' options that allow/cause the merge to happen?
thanks
Stuart

[Emc-users] StepConf height gain

2009-07-11 Thread Christopher Purcell
I was testing the latest EMC 2.3.2 release on Ubuntu 8.04 yesterday,
and observed that now the full height of the StepConf window will not
fit on my 1024 by 768 monitor. The last time I used StepConf, about 6
months ago, I could right click on the title bar, invoke the Move
option and move the window up to make the execute buttons visible. But
for some reason, either due to a Ubuntu 8.04 or Stepconf change (or
finger trouble), I cannot move the window top edge above the top edge
of the desktop. The Resize button for Stepconf's window is disabled,
which is what is really needed here. The result of this height gain is
that I cannot run StepConf, since the execute buttons are beyond
reach, off the bottom of the screen.

Yes the added features to stepconf made it larger unfortunately.

You may have to hide the top panel before you can move the top of the
window past it. right click the top panel click properties and select
'show hide buttons'. then you will have arrows on either side of the panel
that when clicked will hide the top panel and allow you to move a window
top edge beyond it.

[Emc-users] Lost encoder detection

2009-07-11 Thread Leslie Newell
After my discussion with Peter last night I decided to have a go at
tweaking PID. I first set it up so maxerrorI and maxerrorD also trigger
the saturated output. This helped quite a bit. Next I added a function
that scales all of the maxerror values when the machine has been
stationary for more than a given time (0.05 seconds works well for me).

The difference is startling. Before I could easily get the X axis to run
from near one limit to the other limit due to I term buildup without
faulting. To do this I usually had to give it a tiny nudge with the jog
wheel to start movement. If you got the nudge just right it would only
accelerate very slowly so the output didn't saturate. Now with the same
PID settings the most I can get the axis to move is about 4mm before it
faults. Scaling the max errors to 20% still leaves plenty of power to
hold the axis in position.

I think this would be a worthwhile addition to emc. Currently I have it
as a separate component (called safe_pid) but maybe it is worth
including the code in the standard pid component. With the default
parameter settings the only difference in behavior is that maxerrorI and
maxerrorD also trip the saturated output.

Re: [Emc-users] could not merge

2009-07-11 Thread Jeff Epler
If you 'pull' and another developer has made a change to the same file
you have, you might get a message like this:
$ git merge origin/master ;# can happen with 'git pull', 'git rebase' too
Auto-merged src/Makefile
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in src/Makefile
Removed src/hal/classicladder/arrays.h
Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result.

This is not about permissions or ownership of the file. This is because
two developers made a change to the same part of the same file.

In my case, I'd deleted a line right by the one that Moses committed.
In the resulting Makefile, it looked like this (Use your editor's find
command and search for ):

 HEAD:src/Makefile
$(FILE) ../*.png ../*.gif $(DESTDIR)$(sysconfdir)/emc2
===
$(FILE) ../docs/UPDATING $(DESTDIR)$(docsdir)/UPDATING
$(FILE) ../*.png ../*.gif $(DESTDIR)$(datadir)/emc
 origin/master:src/Makefile

that shows that in my copy there was the one line shown; in the 'origin'
copy there are the two lines. I know that Moses' change was to modify
the installation path of those files, so I left the line
$(FILE) ../*.png ../*.gif $(DESTDIR)$(datadir)/emc
and deleted the others, including the merge markers , ===, and .

(So far, this is almost exactly like resolving a conflict in cvs)

Now, you have to tell git that the conflict is resolved:
$ git add Makefile
$ git commit
(you can accept the message without editing)

If you've gotten yourself lost by moving files around, you can give up
on the merge instead of committing:
$ git reset --hard
this goes back to the last change you had committed; As long as you
had committed before you pulled, no work is lost. BUT IF YOU HAVE NOT
COMMITTED, THIS COMMAND WILL LOSE DATA.

In CVS, you could
$ rm Makefile
$ cvs up Makefile
edit Makefile to restore your own edits
to use the other Makefile as a starting point to remake your own
changes. You can do this in git too, but you might have to spend 20
minutes in the manual to find out how to write it:
$ git cat-file blob :3:src/Makefile  Makefile  ;# in directory src/
(yeah, that's nice and convenient)

If your original error message said
src/Makefile: needs update
fatal: Entry 'src/Makefile' not uptodate. Cannot merge.
Merge with strategy recursive failed.
then it's because you didn't commit before you merged. If you don't
want to commit now, you can stash (but this still doesn't save you from
a conflict..):
$ git stash
Saved working directory and index state WIP on master: 1f28be1...
$ git merge origin/master
$ git stash apply
Auto-merged src/Makefile
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in src/Makefile

I cleared up some of my issues, but have other issues that possibly
should have been looked at first.

The lubrication did help with missing steps, as well as truing up the
machine as best I can.

I cannot find the information needed to set the timing better. I have
the step time setting from the docs of the drivers, still need the step
space, direction hold and direction setup. Is there any good way to
determine these from running the machine?

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Emc-users] StepConf height gain

2009-07-11 Thread Christopher Purcell
No, nothing out of the ordinary, and with both upper and lower menus
hidden, the StepConf window height is still too tall.
  It is possible my screen resolution is not what I think it is.

Obviously Axis knows the screen resolution, because the Axis window
fits perfectly. But Axis is using OpenGL, which probably has tools to
fit windows nicely to the available real estate.

With the advice I just got up thread about how to move screens off the
top of Gnome with ALT-left click, I was able to run StepConf from the
latest release.

If the options to create links on the users desktop are enabled
(probably on the second window StepConf brings up), and they are by
default, then
StepConf kaks with an error message on its final screen, where it is
saving the file. The error message says no machine name was provided.
If I deselect the options to create links, then the save of the
stepconf file proceeds without a hitch, and a working file is built. I
was able to use the output to run my router.
