Hi Kirk,

For the simple board sandwich you're describing, all you need is
"stackable headers". They're on Ebay, (I added "connectors" to the
search term, for good luck), but they have to be on Mouser and Digikey.
Most of the prices I saw on Ebay were too high - I wouldn't pay that
much - ah, 20 off 8 pin for $5, that's more like it. This one's a bit
dearer, but from HK, not the mainland, so might be a better investment:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-Pin-Stackable-Header-20-PCS-For-Arduino-R3-/320989215241?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4abc72ba09

Stackable headers are what's used e.g. between an Arduino and its
"shield". (I have one within arms reach. With four of them around its
edges, you have to take a bit of care when pulling them apart - at least
just as they separate.) All that holds the boards together is the
friction of the pins, and you can chuck the assembly across the room
without them separating.

With stackable headers, you can go for a three or four layer sandwich,
if desired. (Either with one column forming a vertical bus, or with
quite separate interconnections at some layers, offset from those
below.)

The automated test equipment probes are, as already mentioned, for
production testing of manufactured circuit boards. I wouldn't use them
for this purpose.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I'm not using it to mount another board.
It mates to a wire harness.

The drawing I posted is just a test fixture for the board. The UUT spends
about 5 seconds in that arrangement. Then it is mounted down and a
wire harness plugs into the connector.

Ah, that's a lot harder, but you'd have 5.08mm pitch when using every
second pin at 0.1" pitch. By drilling some of the holes larger, and
gluing the connector in place, that could suffice for a modest number of
pins. But there's another way to use common connectors on strange
boards, if you're game.

To add a couple of extra dual-row 10 pin headers to the Arduino board, I
gingerly ground away some of the circuit traces on both sides, drilled
holes on 0.1" grid, and super-glued the connector to the PCB. Then I
just ran fine wires where needed. Admittedly, I'll (almost certainly)
make a PCB in the longer term, but this has been fine for half a year
now. It has seen a lot of connection/disconnection handling in that
time, as I'm experimenting with the board.

To ensure alignment between boards, I'd glue one set first, and let the
other side set while mated with the first. I haven't tried hot melt
glue, and the superglue is fine for the dual-row headers. (Which can be
made up by gluing two single rows together, if that's what's to hand.)

Another thing the angle grinder excelled at was making a rectangular
cut-out in the edge of the daughterboard (shield). The coarse wheel was
like a plasma cutter, quick but very neat.

2014-10-16 Thread John Kasunich
The probe sockets are designed to be press-fit into a CNC drilled
plastic or bakelite plate. The drawing even tells you what size holes
to use for a couple different plate materials. The plate determines
the mechanical location of the pins, then depending on which socket
you use you can wire wrap, solder, or crimp wires from them to a
connector of your choice. Or you can do what I did and lay out a
PC board that does both location and interconnect.

Andy has a CNC mill, so if he has a piece of suitable plastic and a
drill bit he can make whatever pattern he needs.

You'd need to duplicate the functionality of the trajectory planner to
get G64P right. And then keep it up to date as the TP changes...

The only alternative i can think of is to somehow run the real
trajectory planner and redirect its actual commanded waypoints away from
the joint controllers and into your runtime estimator.

That might be useful for other reasons too (better bounds checking,
easier testing of the TP, etc), but it'll be slower than either of the
two current estimators.

The 611 only is analog and the 611D are digital .
Do you have the complete code for that servo drive ?
I do believe that with the Siemens product code you should be able to find
the PDF documentation on the net .
I used this servo system in the past years and it's quite similar to other
servo system with reference +/-10Vdc analog input voltage .
Wich kind of motors are connected ?
1FK6 or 1FK7. (this usually installed on machine tools .

There were several different versions of the 611 drives.

Most of them were velocity mode drives with analog inputs.

I have some old ones (1992 vintage) on a lathe that runs LinuxCNC.
They could be purchased with encoder or resolver feedback and a host of
other options.

Do you know how old they are?

Do you have a manual for them?

The 611 drives I have sit in a common rack and use a common DC bus power
supply.

The later drives were available as standalone units.

Re: [Emc-users] Siemens simodrive 611

2014-10-16 Thread John Thornton
I never did find really good info on the 611 drives. I have one on my BP
308 and if your using a RPC it better be a big one. The other thing I
can recall from memory is both my Siemens drives use the same terminal
number for the analog signal 56 or 58 I can't recall for sure. I think
Robh sent me some manuals on them at one time. I'll see if I can find them.

Whatever is plopped down on those style connectors still needs to have
those pressure causing retainer lips removed, that pressure that breaks
the trace off the board is relentless. That relatively large pin and its
socket in the header, have more than enough grip to retain it on anything
but a mutant, bring down the walls at Jerico, paint shaker. If thats the
environment, drill a hole for a tie-wrap to loop around it for a retainer.
Where they were used in that nearly 40yo HiGain 623, there was a slotted
micarta bar over the top of the daughter boards that would have withstood
that paint shaker. There were of coarse other things that would not have
survived, but that "card cage" without the actual cage would have.

Re: [Emc-users] Conditional code- GOTO

2014-10-16 Thread alex chiosso
Hi to all.
Wondering why the GOTO feature is a bad thing to have I was reading a USA
brand CNC manufacturer (Delta Tau PMAC-NC Pro2
) and they use
GOTO as a standard function for the NC program control into parametric
programming FANUC style .
And they declare :

If the code doesn't exist, that is an error.

If you have created the code, then the code exists.
