[Emc-users] OT - handling a 120v ac dip

2017-06-21 Thread kqt4at5v
I am just a tinkerer so I'm looking for advice. I have a project using an
ESP8266 to control a light. I am using a Panasonic AQY280EH to switch the
light. What is the safe protocol for mounting and connecting a device that
is using a high voltage.

I have a ups that has failing batteries. It is a good ups with an external
battery connector. I would like to pull out the SLA batteries and hook up
2 deep cycle batteries to the external port. Will the ups keep these
deep cycle batteries charged? Will it ruin them? I plan to move the unit
outside to the porch and run a line inside.

No IR thermometer
I ran the motor on 12 volts for about 1 hour and the chip was only barely warm
to touch
Then I ran the motor on 36 volts for about 1 hour and the chip was only barely
warm to touch
The 36 volt power supply is close in the same container so I disconnected it
and ran the motor on batteries
Same results the motor is very weak

[Emc-users] ot: voltage and steppers

2015-03-28 Thread kqt4at5v
I have a question about the voltage to drive a stepper motor
12 volts works but higher voltages make the motor weaker
I am building a simple stepper driver
A nema 23 2.7 amp stepper motor and 36 volt power supply
The controls are hand held, forward ,reverse, stop, and speed
I built the controls and driver using a 12 volt battery to test
Now I completed the project and am using the 36 volt supply
The motor runs at the same speed but it is so weak I can hold the shaft and
stall the motor
This is also the same with 36 and 24 volt batteries
With a 12 volt battery I can not stall the motor
I am using http://piclist.com/techref/io/stepper/SLAm/SLAm_bld.htm and an
Arduino
I would be happy if someone would point out my stupidity

[Emc-users] motor connections

2015-02-18 Thread kqt4at5v
For those who build your own controls, what connectors do you use to
connect the motors to the control panel? I am talking steppers <= 3 amps.
The store bought ones I have looked at use a DIN connector.

I think it would be a fun detour on the road to full cnc and for me
learning and fun is what it is about. I have many do-dads lying on a shelf
that have no practical use but gave me a lot of pleasure to build.

I have looked at ELS. What I am thinking is only a stepper on the cross

I have been using using just the motherboard parallel port to drive my 4
axis stepper board. I now want to use a 5i25 to drive the stepper board.
Can you point me to a how to doc.

The first thing is to see if theres standard configuration that matches the
pinout of your 4 axis stepper board. Take a look at the pinout files for these
standard parallel port compatible 5i25 configurations:

5i25_dmmbob1x2.pin
5i25_g540x2.pin
5i25_mx3660x2.pin
5i25_prob_rfx2.pin
5i25_r990x2.pin

(they dont have to be an exact match, encoders and PWMs can be disabled,
allowing the pins to be used as inputs or outputs but you want the step/dir
pins to be correct)

These files are part of Mesa's 5I25 firmware distribution in

http://www.mesanet.com/software/parallel/5i25.zip

The board I have is the Probotix "PBX-RF RF Isolated CNC Breakout Board".
The 5i25_prob_rfx2.pin looks close. I attached my stepconf file. I do not
know if we are allowed to post with attachments.

Do you have the 4pin power plug jack connected on the MB? I think the

 Otherwise beep code!

[Emc-users] new motherboard doa, twice

2014-12-14 Thread kqt4at5v
I ordered a ASRock G1900M Pro3. When I power it up I get nothing. Not a
flicker. A friend had a 4GB memory stick that he let me have, G.Skill
F3-1600C11S-4GNS. I asked ASRock if this memory would work and they said
yes. If I remove the memory the board beeps 3 times pauses and repeats.
The power supply was running another board ok. I hooked the monitor and
cable to another computer and it is ok. I have the monitor hooked up to
the vga port. I returned the board and they sent another and it does the
same thing. I preferred this board because of the pci slots. What do you
think? Should I return it for a refund or swap it for another. It cost
about $14.00 to send it back.

I added acpi=off and still locked up. As soon as I start latency-test I am
not able to type in any other terminal. I can move the mouse pointer and
even switch screens for a bit but not type. I tried running
i=0; while ((1)); do dmesg > dmesg_log; echo $((i++)); done
The count stop as soon as I started latency-test and the log was empty.

MySQL and PostgreSQL are heavy weight rdbm. SQLite is an embedded rdbm.
There a many of the SQL standards and each of these rdbm attempt to adhere
to parts of one of these standards. None of them are 100% compliant. I
work with all of these rdbm on a daily basic.

Got it
If I put halio.so in /usr/lib/camunits linuxcnc works but camview fails with
RTAPI: ERROR: could not open shared memory (errno=2)
Segmentation fault
Can this plugin be relocated, if so how do I tell python where to look

I just tried on a 10.04 (I did this before, so I have the
 prerequisite packages installed):

 git clone git://psha.org.ru/psha/camunits.git

 cd camunits/
./bootstrap.sh # failed. had to install gtkdocize:
 apt-file search gtkdocize
 sudo apt-get install gtk-doc-tools

 ./configure

I am at a remote location so I can go no farther right now. If you
get this thing working please share.

I have not had time to determine that. Maybe someone who has already done
this might offer a suggestion.

I just found that there is a second set of files we need
git clone git://psha.org.ru/psha/cu-plugins
This contains the convert_crop I have read about. I do not remember
mention of needing this.

I grabbed a copy of camunits from git. Had to create a few files

touch config.rpath
touch po/Makefile.in.in
touch ABOUT-NLS
cp /usr/share/gtk-doc/data/gtk-doc.make .

Then ran
libtoolize --force
aclocal
autoheader
automake --force-missing --add-missing
autoconf

After that ./configure and it completd ok
Configuration (camunits):

Thanks for the many good opinions but I am going to be squeezed to fit in
something with a footprint as small as the smithy
I have looked several times at the X2/X3's but I have no room for a separate

Is there a better 3-in-1 than the smithy in the $2000 range

This may be a bad or early revision firmware card. We can issue a RMA to
return it for repair/upgrade/replacement if you are sure this is not a
motherboard problem. The 5I25 is fairly new but we have about 300+ 5I25s in
the field now and have had zero complaints that the card was not recognized.
Can you provide the motherboard part number in case we need to try and
duplicate the problem?

Do you have the motherboard name? I can see if there is a real
compatibility issue or not by duplicating your setup.

is there a pci-express card known to play well with linuxcnc
if so would you share the brand and model
it would be even better if it was a dual port card

any higher and the whole enclosure shakes and rattles
i do a lot of small engraving
my intent is to build a strong wooden table and pour a concrete slab on top

As an aside I create a program to generate a profile and store the points
in a database table. Then a second program to read the points and apply
scaling and a z value to create a 3d profile. From my perspective it is
much simpler than trying to write it in g-code.

Is the microscope you used Linux compatible. If so can you provide a brand
