[Emc-users] 2.6.4

2014-11-16 Thread a k
Hi
i want to install emc2--2.6.4
i down load it from linuxcnc
1st -- is 2.6.4 most current one?
2nd when i down load, it gives options

1install Graphical
2install (text)
3install Fail Safe

question is which one do i need?
i want to it look like 2.5.xxx - not sure how to say it --like normal etc
or better to ask what is difference between those 3 options for install
emc2-2.6.4 ?

thank you

Try option 1 first. This will work on most computer -
monitor combinations just fine.

On some odd combinations, the screen will come up scrambled
and you can't see what
questions are being asked, or you get no display at all. In
those cases, try option
2. it will use a very blocky character-based menu
selection, but will allow the install
to work on combinations where the install CD's OS can't set
up the screen resolution
correctly. In both cases, the installed system will be the
same. these options
don't affect what is installed or how it is configured, they
only affect the way
the menus are displayed DURING the install procedure.

I'm not sure what option 3 is for, it loads a very
stripped-down OS for the
install, and I think makes it impossible to update the
system during the install
because there's no network.

And, there is no EMC2, and hasn't been for several years.

This list is just the selection for the install process not the actual
LinuxCNC soft ware
Just use #1 Graphical install and fallow the prompts. The default
settings should be right for most situations if you get stuck or have
any questions ask here and we will see what we can do.

Hi Aram.
Look at this video from
YouTube .
It's well done and clear so you should understand the installation process
of the LCNC new version.
The same author made other interesting videos on the same argument
(upgrading to the latest version, latency test ) .
I like the Debian Wheezy installation (2.6.x) due to the xfce desktop much
easier than Ubuntu Unity Desktop.
I've installed LCNC on a new PC the last week using the instruction of the
video above and I've got it working.

Every time click on F2 result in motion of X axis and fallowing error. -can
not change axis - nothing - all axis are -frozen
i pick MDI and i can not type in nothing it froze also.

2014-11-23 Thread a k
hi
i try and got same problem with live CD no installation--
even without any installation.
than i try 2.5.4 and total different result.
Problem is that when i click F1 - off e-stop, i should be able to pick axis
-- X Y Z, able to type in in MDI , AND after i push F2 machine power up and
after i click on Y axis jog - (any increment ) tham machine should move.
that is how 2.5.4 works on my computer.
And on my computer for 2.6.4 nothig is same.
in live CD - F1 - e-stop off ,and i can no pick axis X Y Z they are frozen
not pickable, and i can open MDI but i CAN NOT type there anything.

Yesterday i did see that 2.6.5 -- already there. i copy it and try it. same
result as with 2.6.4-- no difference.

it can not be that only i have this problem. maybe not many try 2.6.5
why do i have this problem?

Because, since I have been using LCNC, starting at about 2.0.0 it has
always been a 2 step process to enable the machinery.

You have always had to press F1 once and F2 once, F1 gets it out of its
default e-stop startup, but it then takes an F2 press to actually enable
the machine.

Be aware that many modern keyboards now default to an Fkey disabled state
at powerup. You can identify those keyboards by their having a key or
button labeled F, which when pressed, will enable the Fkeys until the next
power up, or they can be disabled again by a second tap on the F key.

Not here. This makes me ask what keyboard emulation you are using?

Its within the realm of possible that the wrong keyboard translation is
doing something it should not be done, but that is just a SWAG on my part.

I believe the site where you downloaded the disk image from should have a
downloadable md5sum or possibly an sha1sum and doing the same sum
operation on your disk would prove its integrity.

Re: [Emc-users] 2.6.4---2.5.4

2014-11-23 Thread John Prentice (FS)
Aram

See below

Problem is that when i click F1 - off e-stop, i should be able to pick axis
-- X Y Z, able to type in in MDI , AND after i push F2 machine power up and
after i click on Y axis jog - (any increment ) tham machine should move.
that is how 2.5.4 works on my computer.
And on my computer for 2.6.4 nothig is same.
in live CD - F1 - e-stop off ,and i can no pick axis X Y Z they are frozen
not pickable, and i can open MDI but i CAN NOT type there anything.
--

I do not know what you mean by "pick axis -- X, Y, Z" but your workflow with
f1 and f2 is unusual.

Most people clear the Reset/Estop (f1) and the immediately "Power up the
control" (f2). Then you can Home, issue MDI commands, keyboard jog etc.
Attempting anything before Power Up (f2) is not expected to work - perhaps
some things did with 2.5.4 and this is the confusion. I don't have a setup
to try this at present.

2.6.4 works fine for me (using the f1, f2 workflow described above).

i did move 5i20 to the next PCI port and 2.6.5 work ok.
i just do not know what cause to 2.6.5 to start to work ok?
maybe because it use quantum mechanic -- nothing happen for sure, it only
has high probability that it will happen.

You did not answer my question, which was:

Did you copy your original working configuration files from your workin
machine to the new 2.6.4 installation?

I should try Ubuntu on that D525MW instead of Debian... who knows.

2014-11-23 Thread a k
I did many things.
first i open Hal and type everything in manually.
when it did not work i reload 2.6.4 and type all my changes again.
third time i copy my changes alteration to HAL to file and that just copy
past them to do it faster.
but now i can see that that 2.6.5 works i will do it again and i will type
everything manually

If a PCI card is not detected, it very often is because either the contact
fingers or slot contacts are dirty (this is especiall true of slota on a
motherboard that have been unused for a long time)

I find the cleaning the PCI card and slot with 99% Isopropyl alcohol often
fixes the problem. To clean the slot I dip a piece of card stock into the
alcohol and insert/remove it several times

2014-11-24 Thread a k
Hi
i am not out of woods- so far.

i did move boards and narrow the problem.
1st i did put 5i20 --ONLY -- and system works as normal.
2nd i did connect Y axis driver- to the system - To y axis motor drive
 --and system works as normal.
I did connect Y axis to X axis motor drive and system --as normal.
I did connect Y axis to Z axis motor drive and system --as normal

when i Try to connect X or Z axis to the any motor drive -- system
instantly change behavior -- axis froze and not click-able -- and after F2
axis X or Z try to move automatically by them self and instantly ERROR show
up.

So , conclusion -- there are big difference between Y axis and axis X and
Z.

i noticed that in the end HAL file it show that Y axis different from X and
Z axis.
why Y is different from X and Z and what to do with my problem?

thank you

Are you using the _exact_ same .hal and .ini files copied (via usb

Which hal and ini files are you using?

If you are using the sample files that come with linuxcnc instead of your
customized .hal and .ini files from your working 2.5.4 installation, You
should not expect them to work.

[Emc-users] 2.6.4 to 2.6.7 update without a network connection?

2015-03-28 Thread Gregg Eshelman
Where do I download the update from 2.6.4 to 2.6.7 to sneakernet to a PC
with the Debian Wheezy LCNC install?

I'm setting up a computer with a pair of hard drives, one for Linux and
one for XP.
