not sure about that - but lets see.
Personally, I like the idea of getting E17 out, then maybe a patch later on for
Compiz/Beryl would be awesome. That's where the focus should be (as you have
mentioned, it is). If E17 can get out by the end of the year (at least a good
beta version) that would be an awesome feat I think.

But the primary thing of importance is getting E17 out the door. It's actually
looking petty good. Only 2 really big TODO items left. I'm doing a theme
revamp. The Default theme has very much aged. The gold bling isn't incredibly
popular. I'm working on something I think people will love - and it still shows
off E. It will replace the current default - and will also knock off some of
the "comment the default theme so its better documented for people to build new
themes from and learn Edje.

Well this definately is some good news. E17 has been sitting around for ages
and I've followed it for a few years now but haven't really had time to run
Linux or use it because my computer died and I have to use my Mom's computer
(which I dual boot with Winblows) and have been stuck on Winblows for a while
now. So I'm kinda stuck without E17. This is definately good news for me to see
it out. If it gets officially released, it should be able to make Linux so much
better, and we can see different apps, etc. made for E17 for each distro so
that it runs great.

[e-users] Ubuntu + Entrance = Not working like I want

2007-01-07 Thread Paul Stejskal
I'm trying to get entrance to work (I can get it to launch like I want),
but I can't get it to log me in. I've been playing with it googling and
searching different avenues but nothing has worked.

Here's what I do: Choose E17, enter username/pw, and push Enter. However
the Lock icon flashes red and then clears the user/pw boxes. What am I
missing? Is it something with pam? According to my research it might be
something to do with /etc/pam.d/entrance so here it is:.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/pam.d/entrance
%PAM-1.0
authrequiredpam_nologin.so
authrequiredpam_env.so
authrequiredpam_unix.so nullok
account requiredpam_unix.so
passwordrequiredpam_unix.so
session requiredpam_unix.so
session requiredpam_console.so

I'm using Ubuntu Edgy.

Thanks!

[e-users] Modules disapperaing?

2006-11-24 Thread Paul Stejskal
Hi E17 folks! I have a problem with my modules not showing up on the
configuration menus yet they ARE compiled. Here are a few CLI commands I
did so you can see more of what I have done to locate them.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ enlightenment_remote -module-list
REPLY <- BEGIN
REPLY: "start" ENABLED 1
REPLY: "ibar" ENABLED 1
REPLY: "dropshadow" ENABLED 1
REPLY: "clock" ENABLED 1
REPLY: "temperature" ENABLED 1
REPLY: "pager" ENABLED 1
REPLY <- END

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/opt/e17/lib/enlightenment/modules$ ls
battery clockdropshadow ibar language mixer netphoto
screenshot snow taskbar temperature weather wlan
blingcpufreq flame ibox mem moon pager rain
slideshow start tclock uptime winselector

If I try enlightenment-remote -module-load ... and enlightenment_remote
-module-enable ... it doesn't work saying it can't it in the standard
search directories and asks if I would like to unload it.

This is probably a stupid question and I apologize, but how do you get

[e-users] Unable to make a shortcut on ibar?

2006-10-16 Thread Paul Stejskal
Dear Enlightenment Experts:

I'm using a rebuilt E17 from today (rebuilt everything including libs, apps,
modules, etc.), and for some reason I'm playing with the IBar shortcuts and I
can't create one for Songbird. I made my own custom .desktop file in my
~/.e/e/applications/all folder for it, and it reconizes it properly. However it
refuses to work properly when I drag it down or use the menu editor, or edit
the .order file manually. I can even create an icon in the bar folder for it
too. The only thing I can think of is how I launch it.

The way I launch it is cd ~/Desktop/Songbird && ./songbird (this is a beta
version). Should I try to create a symlink to the folder from an area in my
$PATH or is something wrong with E?

Thanks,

Paul Stejskal

In the spirit of Raster, no. Why? Because there are a lot of apps that
don't adhere to the standards making programming it difficult. Rather
then open a can of worms and make a buggy product that's hard as crap to
make perfect, they are just leaving it out, getting the todo done, and
then releasing E17. I think that could change if there are revisions in
the protocol or someone can actually do some work on it. Engage can
kinda do some of that however.

Sometimes I get that kind of error when I run an outdated module

What I do is set to remember by window class so I don't have to worry about it changing titles. That never changes. Of course things like firefox properties or the download window get affected too, but I don't have any major problems that I can't deal with.

I agree that checking for title changes and applying the rememberoptions later is kinda a bad idea, although I could think of a couple offunny tricks you could play on people :). But maybe a compromise likechecking again 1s or 0.5s after starting the app. That would allowthings like I was trying, as there seem to be quite a few apps whichdon't give meaningful window name and class and change their title justafter starting. Just as an idea. I found my solution however, I'll justbe using vim in an Eterm with the title set.-Using Tomcat but need to do more? Try disabling the bling module completely and see if that works.
Otherwise you'll have to edit your xorg.conf and disable composite
extensions.

[e-users] EVolume not working?

2006-07-23 Thread Paul Stejskal
It worked great when I was on Mandriva 2006. But I switched to Ubuntu
6.06 and now EVolume doesn't display ANY mixers in my configuration
options. I know the sound works great and alsamixer works fine too. Any
ideas? I also had another Kubuntu user verify this.

I will second that a NVIdia card and X and Composite extensions seems to
do the gray thing. Also Hawkwind on irc.freenode.net noticed that too.
Mine somehow resolved and he resolved it too through nuking his config
file for the module.

Desktop icons are on the todo list (as this is alpha still in heavy
devel). A good file browser depends on if you like KDE or Gnome better
really as Nautilus or Konqueror are your best options. Do NOT use any
E17 file browsers yet as they are broken and will destroy your system.

I put my exec enlightenment under my xinitrc file and it works fine.
Have you tried seeing if your distro has a configuration or something?
What are you using to log in?

When I'm logged in as User and I try to run su enlightenment tries to

tell it to open as failsafe terminal, or Gnome. This would be fine
however when I'm logged in as root in Enlightenment and I try to open

Any suggestions? I don't mind having Enlightenment as the default for

rather frustrating.

That's kinda dumb. You're wanting to run a bulky buggy WM on top of a
clean, simple, fast, and well written (except for it being in alpha) WM.
If you state what you wish to get done, maybe we could help with that

[e-users] Menus

2006-02-10 Thread Paul Stejskal
I was wondering about what the plan was for E17's menus. It seems like
e17genmenu creates application icons for each stinking app. It creates
menus for KDE, Gnome, XFCE configuration panels, which aren't used by
E17 anyway. I know that Mandriva has a feature that uses system menus
distro-wide for everything.

Thoughts?

bug definately needs work. Probably the theme maintainers should update
something at the very least. I noticed the bug when I switched to a
default theme. Wierd.

Re: [e-users] maximization

2005-11-27 Thread Paul Stejskal
Maximization using expansion expands windows so that they fit around
modules. Smart expansion does something similar, but doesn't fill it in
all the way, comparable to a OS X maximize. I personally use expand
since I can automatically maximize my windows and have them fit around
modules on the top and 2 sides.

Try giving it a while and see what happens with updates (meaning update

Mine is being picky for me too somewhat. Try reinstalling everything
and I mean everything as in a make clean && ./autogen.sh && make && make
install of every dependency in the order on 2.1 of the manual on
get-e.org and doing a CVS update! It seems that it's picky about that.
If that doesn't do it, reply with a gdb backtrace.

Re: [e-users] shortcut keys to show desktop?

2005-11-11 Thread Paul Stejskal
What you could do is leave a desktop open for just that and when you
need it, scoot your mouse to the edge and go to it. But the way I do it
is I set my maximization policy to EXPAND and it goes around the
modules, then I just leave my modules around 3 borders (top, and 2
sides) and gkrellm and I don't have to worry about it. Then I just use
engage to switch apps.
Meh!
