RE: Programmatically recover from the Dumpster ?
What I meant is, I know for certain some instances of all those objects had been moved to PSTs, others were still remaining in the db. Moving back everything from PST to pub would restore the initial situation but we'd loose SIS (the "moved back" objects would count as new ones if I understand it correctly), effectively gaining about 10GB of store. We ended up doing a massive recover form deleted items, one for every directory. Took about half a day and lots of patience :) Heiko -- -- PREVINET S.p.A. www.previnet.it -- Heiko Herold [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- +39-041-5907073 ph -- +39-041-5907472 fax > -Original Message- > From: Ed Crowley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2003 5:13 AM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: RE: Programmatically recover from the Dumpster ? > > > Anything is possible, though not necessarily practical. RE: Unknown User problems (help!)
Hi Ed, The first thing I checked was Reverse DNS - it's absolutely perfect - I even checked it using remote systems - and DNS verifiers. Rock and Roll. As far as Black Lists - I will check ORBS and a couple others - but this is a Capital Management company - nothing but first class people (and business practices) and they never did a mass mail in their lives - so I just can't fathom them being on any type of list. Ok - just checked it - they are on NO blacklists. It's possible they are lumping this particular error message with all the other crap they are throwing at us - saying, that it's happening more than once. I *know* the unknown user error is happening often - and that's my #1 concern right now. I really don't feel that the other problem mentioned above is happening often at all. Today is the first I heard of that particular one. Now regarding the NDR (for the Unknown User error) - here it is: > Unknown user: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Original message follows. > > Received: from UltimaThule [66.73.199.56] by clovisinc.com with ESMTP > (SMTPD32-6.06) id A9944C510150; Mon, 26 May 2003 15:31:16 -0500 > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Kim Kolesar" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cc: "Matt Versaggi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Fw: Undeliverable Mail > Date: Mon, 26 May 2003 15:31:14 -0500 > MIME-Version: 1.0 > Content-Type: text/plain; > charset="iso-8859-1" > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > X-Priority: 3 > X-MSMail-Priority: Normal > X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106 > X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1106 If anybody has any ideas, or anything I should check, please let me know. I have been using Exchange 5.5 sp4 with my Windows 2000 server, I just recently upgraded to Exchange server 2000. Now my other computers on the network cannot download anything. They can still surf the web but all download go so long and the stop. I have a 512 connection to the internet via cable. I have tried several routers with the same problems. The cable company told me that my connection was fine and they could not support me any further since I am using a router. I have set the exchange server to only relay from the five computers on my LAN and they user would have to be authenticated by there server before they could relay to the SMTP VS. I received an notification from Sybari that included the following information. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article number 814891 describes an error (Error -613) that can occur when performing an online backup of Exchange 2000. Microsoft has identified a situation that causes this problem to occur. Sybari has received a few reports from some of its customers that online backups of Exchange 2000 are reporting this error after they have enabled Antigen's disclaimer feature. Antigen utilizes Microsoft APIs when updating an email message with disclaimer text. As a result of working with those customers that reported the error as well as with Microsoft, those customers have now received a fix from Microsoft Product Support Services and are now beginning testing of the fix. We are making you aware of this potential issue so that you can contact Microsoft Product Support Services if after reading the QFE you believe that you should also deploy Microsoft's fix. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];814891s -Dave Vantine -Original Message- From: Ed Crowley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 2:41 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Small warning: Antigen 7.5 My customer was advised by Sybari to run 7.5 because 7.0 caused high INETINFO CPU usage, and the SMTP queues to block. Unknown User problems (help!)
Hello, Ever since we moved our business to another building down the road, and switched ISP's (with a new block of IP's), our Exchange Server has been acting up. We didn't have to change hardly anything after moving - except some IP addresses on the ISA Firewall Server's external interface, and some DNS settings on the Exchange Server (for outgoing mail DNS resolution). >From time to time, external users that are sending e-mail to users on the Exchange Box, are getting "Unknown User" error messages. This has NEVER happened before - and am desperately trying to figure out, how changing ISP's, can cause all these problems. How the heck could a remote system, get as far as opening a connection all the way to the Exchange Box, and once authenticated etc., it's unable to find a particular user on the system - when they are there plain as day??? This server has never hiccupped a single time before the move - Also, (here is another good one), on AOL and similar systems, from time to time, users that had no problem before the move, could send mail to particular users with no problems, are NOW they are getting similar error messages: > The following recipient(s) could not be reached: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] on 5/28/2003 4:37 PM > The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this > message was sent to. Also be aware of the load you be placing on your servers. If the servers are in the same site then it will be better, though not much, with all the replication messages going from the source to the target server. This operation you are planning will generate a ton of them so you might want to do this on a weekend. If you are going from one site to another I hope you have the bandwidth for this - you will need it - this all depends on the total amoutn of data being moved too, of course. RE: Services Dying Please Help
Is this running on a cluster? I don't know if it is related, however, we were having a similar problem that started shortly before I took this gig. We are running E2k on a EMC Geo-Crapper... Er Geo-cluster. IMAP4 was failing first and appeared to be bringing down the whole thing. We weren't using IMAP4 so disabling the IMAP service worked for us. Once disabled, there has not been a single recurrance of this problem. Not perfect, but a good short term resolution until I can take my big hammer to our geo-clusters. stemy -Original Message- From: Joshua R. RE: rehome 10,000 PFs.
We have one customer who has only about 1100 PF's and when they replicate it really drags the mail flow to a crawl even with T1's in place. Regards. RE: rehome 10,000 PFs.
Custom recipients and distribution lists are not homed to a server, rather they are homed to an Exchange site (or fully contained in AD if its E2k, which I'm guessing it isn't). Public Folders allow for propagation of changes down a tree. Select the top level folder via Exchange Admin and change the home server property (as well as any replicas that need to be added or removed) and then select the check box on the first screen that says (something to the effect of) "Propagate Changes to Subfolders". When you hit OK, you'll get prompted for which properties should be propagated - make sure Home Server (and replicas, if you changed those) are checked and hit OK. Roger -- Roger D. Group, I am having some problem with my Exchange server using way too much bandwidth. I have been using Exchange 5.5 sp4 with my Windows 2000 server, I just recently upgraded to Exchange server 2000. Sorry, some things I forgot. This happens to email currently residing in the mailbox. After opening an email in OWA and clicking reply/forward, the text of the message body then shows just fine. You can go on and type some stuff then send the reply. Outlook2000 works fine using the same username and mailbox. It happens on NT4WS, Win2k, WinXP, IE5, IE6, IE6 SP1.
