We tried encrypting it for about a week. After so many complaints of "I
can't understand this e-mail you sent" we decided it wasn't worth it.

OMG don't get me started on HIPAA. MY parent org is a healthcare member
service org and the hoops they have us jump through to meet HIPAA compliancy
sucks. We however did choose to encrypt the email because they often send
SSN's and take patient care orders online.

Good morning,

Outlook 98. Exchange 5.5 Windows 2000.

We are a healthcare organization. We wre looking to implement an encryption
package that is as easy as possible for the sender and the receiver. With
HIPAA looming, all Patient Health Information (PHI) that is sent outside our
organization must be encrypted.

Does anyone have experience with encryption and PHI data? We are looking
into the future where other groups of people will also use this product to
encrypt information that they send outside the organization.

Any guidance on these products would be greatly appreciated.

You have to turn the agent tab on each mailbox? I looked in the mailboxes

Well Outlook98 is a while back, somewhere in the options-Advance-Add IN
manager, you have to turn on the server side scripting tab right? I think
every version of Outlook gets you there in a different way :)

Subject: Agent Tabs In Outlook

Greetings,

I am using the Auto Accept utility for Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4. I have
several resources that have the Agent Tab available to them in the Inbox and
I have a few that don't have the agent tab turned on. How do I turn that tab
on for all resources so that when I configure Auto Accept it works properly?

I have gone those the folders; system folders; events roots;
eventconfig_SERVERID and everything is correct. I have assured that the
account is the same in all resources.

Still I am perplexed and need your assistance.

Thanks!!!

Did you try moving one back? I think that will delete the empty one and
just quit without moving it (and thus fixing the problem).

Subject: Mailbox moves completed, but

Good afternoon,

I have completed moving 1700+ mailboxes from one server to the other. We are
using Outlook 98 Exchange Windows 2000. After the moves were completed I
have a few stray mailboxes that are hanging around that are duplicated on
the two servers. Under total K they show 0K, even though the mailbox on the
correct server (the one moved to) show the correct space 58,098K.

I am afraid if we delete the mailbox on the almost empty server, we will
delete the real mailbox. So we don't want to do that. We could dump the
mailbox to a PST, delete the mailbox and restore the mailbox, but that would
cause problems because all communications to the old mailbox would be
severed and people couldn't do replies to the eMAILs that are sitting in the
mailbox. Meetings couldn't be canceled.

What a quandary. What do we do? Just turn off the server and clean it off..
I don't think so.

Thanks for any help you might have.

We are experiencing problems where Outlook just locks up and needs bounced

problems ours is averaging 235. What might be causing this?

2003-09-12 Thread Mitchell Mike
Greetings,

I am in the process of manually moving mailboxes from one server to another.
Both servers are Exchange 5.5 Windows 2000. When moving some of the boxes I
am getting a error. The error is The client operation failed. ID no:
80004005-0501-84005.

I looked this up in Microsoft support and it talks about turning off virus
scan product. That seems dangerous. I have turned off the size factor on
the servers.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Have a great weekend.

Mike,

I have blocked that EXACT domain already by using: @ew01.com

P.S. - I only have about 3,000 domain names in our company block list. Every
one of them *verified* spammers. ;0)

Hmm - I have no problem with you saying it works that way (haven't been able
to try it) but that's not the way I would expect it to work - I would expect
it to be more restrictive in how it blocks, so @ivy.com only blocks
@ivy.com.

That's pretty standard practice in other MTA's I've used over the years,
which is why it seems a little out of whack.

RE: Message Filtering

2003-08-25 Thread Mitchell Mike
Nate,

I don't understand what you are saying? I know I can block full domains
(@yahoo.com) but what I want is to block @**.ivy.net for @01.ivy.net and
@02.ivy.net

You see the suffix is .ivy.net but the prefix is 01 and 02...

Thanks,

Mike

You can wildcard your filters for domains.

On the IMS under Message Filtering you can enter domains using the

@domain.com (.net, etc.)

You can filter a whole country in a similar fashion by using

@fr (for France)

For example.

Message Filtering

2003-08-25 Thread Mitchell Mike
Greetings,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 Windows 2000

Is there any way to use a wildcard when doing messaging filtering on
Exchange 5.5 Admin? (Connections, IMS, Connections, message filtering) We
are trying to filter eMAIL using this feature and there are several domains
that are the same except for a few characters. What is the limit of number

Greetings,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 Windows 2000

I have some users that have been converted from Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 NT

information is incorrect. For example it reports that so and so has 2 unread
messages when indeed they don't have any. It also reports that Sam has a
message but in reality it is coming from Sue. We have run the /cleanviews
and that makes no differences.

Please help!!

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 Windows 2000

I have a user that has meeting notifications for Accepted:, Deleted: and
Canceled: going directly to his Deleted Items folder. He has no rules turned
on; we have deleted his .RWZ file; his adult content is not turned on and as
a last resort we copied his mailbox to a PST, deleted his old mailbox,
created a new mailbox, and restored from the PST. Still no good. These
items are moving to the deleted items folder.

Any other suggestions?

(If we have the same setup).. In the 5.5 Admin console, expand Folders,
System Folders, and Events Root. There should be a folder in there
called
EventConfig_servername for the server that the mailbox resides on. Open the
Properties of that folder and on the General Tab click the Client
Permissions button. Add the mailbox and give it Owner rights.

So again, ensure the autoaccept script is uninstalled, do the above steps,
reinstall the autoaccept script, and ;-) it's supposed to work.

What did you mean by the mailbox needs owner rights? I did as you
suggested, but it still didn't work. I created a new resource and scheduled
them both at the same time. The new resource worked, but the old one
didn't.

(FYI the mailbox needs Owner rights.) So if the EventConfig permissions are
set, reinstall the AutoAccept script on the mailbox and you should be able
to test it immediately. If that doesn't work, try stopping and
starting
the Event service again and retest.

Hi Mike. Have you set up the client permissions for the mailbox in the
EventConfig folder? I've forgotten to do that on occasion. And I
think
I learned the hard way that if this step was missed, you need to uninstall
the Autoaccept script again, set up the EventConfig settings, then reinstall
the script.

I checked the event Service and it was running. Nothing happened.

A script does not move with a mailbox. You must reinstall the script on the
new server and ensure that the Event Service is running.

was just a lot of pulling and tugging and getting it all correct. I will
move the others and see how it goes.

Thanks again for all of your help.

(If we have the same setup).. In the 5.5 Admin console, expand Folders,
System Folders, and Events Root. There should be a folder in there called

The new resource worked, but the old one
didn't.

Wow.. This is confusing!! Sorry.

Right. I was going to recommend being sure to uninstall the old event

(FYI the mailbox needs Owner rights.) So if the EventConfig permissions are
set, reinstall the AutoAccept script on the mailbox and you should be able
to test it immediately. If that doesn't work, try stopping and starting
the Event service again and retest.

Hi Mike. Have you set up the client permissions for the mailbox in the
EventConfig folder? I've forgotten to do that on occasion. And I think
I learned the hard way that if this step was missed, you need to uninstall
the Autoaccept script again, set up the EventConfig settings, then reinstall
the script.

What would these do that your current system doesn't do (easy enough to
figure out) that you will need / want to do in future (not so easy)?

How important is continued support from Microsoft to you? Do you have a
lot of road warriors or people on remote sites with relatively slow
links?

Are you running Windows 2000 or 2003 active directory? If so then it
makes good sense not to have to maintain 2 user directories and
upgrading to a newer version of exchange would enable this.

Good afternoon,

We are in the midst of budgeting for the year 2004. Active Directory is a
Security Team directive and if they get their piece done, we will be able to
migrate to Exchange 2003.

Currently we are using Outlook 98 and Exchange 5.5.

We have 4500 mailboxes and will probably grow to 5000 by mid-2004 when we
are looking at to convert.

How intense is Active Directory from the Security Team's view-point? We are
using Novell and NT 4.0. There are approximately 12000 accounts to be
converted to AD.

Once their piece is in place and our upgrade and migration from Exchange 5.5
to Exchange 2003 starts, how long will it take us to convert these 5000
users. Are their tools out there to help with the migration? Are there
things that a eMAIL Administrator has to do for AD? To we have to touch each
mailbox and replace distribution lists?

I know these plans are a long way down the road, but I want to be positioned
to get there with great success. I would really appreciate hearing your
struggles from exchange (any flavor) to active directory.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Duplicate calendar entries...

2003-03-06 Thread Mitchell Mike
Good afternoon,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 NT 4.0 SP4

I have a user that gets duplicated meeting messages, not on all meeting
message but some of them.
Also, this same user calendar shows these meetings and Tentative even though
he does not open the
meeting messages.

He has a delegate but since she has reported this problem, does not open
these messages.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a solution other than getting
off of Outlook
98.

Thanks.

Upgrading Exchange Servers

2003-03-05 Thread Mitchell Mike
Hello Everyone,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 NT 4.0 SP4.

We are interested in upgrading our Exchange servers from NT 4.0 to Windows
2000. What would be the best way to go about that?

Once we have done what would be the best option as to Outlook clients. We
do not plan on active directory for three years.

Have a great day and thanks for all of your help.

Wanting to get off Outlook 98

Good afternoon.

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 NT 4.0 SP4

Yes the time has come and management has decided that they want to get off
of Outlook 98.
What would be the best Outlook/Exchange to go to now? We are probably 3
years away from going
to Active Directory.

We have windows 2000 available. Please give me wisdom...

Have a great weekend.

Here is what I did... What did I do wrong?

I have a Help Desk mailbox. I created a distribution list called AIS HELP
DESK.
I added AIS HELP DESK as a delegate to HELP DESK mailbox. The on behalf

up on the delivery options tab of the Help Desk mailbox.

I think I did everything right, but... It doesn't work..

Good afternoon,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP 4.0

I am setting up a mailbox that people will need to add to their folder list.
They will need to then reply from that mailbox. I have set these people as
delegates to the new mailbox and granted them Editor permissions to all
folders.

When these people go to reply, they get "you do not have permissions to send
on
behalf..."

This doesn't work like I want to... I do not want to make people co-owners
of the
mailbox as that is too much security.. What am I missing here?

Thanks.

RE: Calendar Problems

2003-02-19 Thread Mitchell Mike
This doesn't work at all for this..

A few things that I noticed:

I can sign onto her account and everything is screwed up. Every meeting goes
to the top of her calendar like it's an all day meeting. There is a clock
on the left hand side of those meetings on the top. After scheduling a
meeting the meeting appears as 11:23 or whatever time you scheduled the
meeting. When I add my mailbox to her folder list, it shows my meetings
just like her. Everyone at the top for every meeting. (I wish I could send
you a picture. It is ugly.)

Now I sign onto my account and everything is like it is supposed to be.
Nice and neat and clean...

I can sign on as her through OWA and her calendar is correct..

Please help me, I am going nuts.. And that isn't a very long trip.

Thanks again for anything I do not find anything like this on Microsoft
Support Website

Here's a copy of Diane's last reply to that: (not my text - hers)

The calendar items were exported to a PST - when you are ready to
restore them, look on outlook's file menu, select open, personal
folders. Find the PST the items are stored in.

If you have the folder view disabled, enable it (view, folder list) - go
to the folder and use a table view. (You might want to make a new view
that doesn't use filters.) Select All then drag to the items to the new
calendar folder.

I know your email says you've deleted the Calendar, but have you tried
deleting it by logging on using an IMAP client, and then using Outlook with
the /ResetFolders option?

Calendar Problems

2003-02-18 Thread Mitchell Mike
Good morning,

OUTLOOK 98 Exchange 5.5 NT SP4

I have a user whose calendar is completely butchered. I have Exported,
Deleted, RESETFOLDER,
Imported the calendar several times. Each time I do this I get the same
butchered calendars.
After the resetfolder, the days are still highlighted as though appointments
are still there,
even before I import the data back in.

The calendar has all of the appointments at the top of each day. It also has
the blue line of busy
along every hour of every day.

How can I recreate this calendar to be correct?

Thanks,

Mike Mitchell

Since I havent used Outlook 98 since, well, 98, I can only guess that its
grayed out because you are using Word as your email editor.

recurring scheduling problems

2003-02-12 Thread Mitchell Mike
Good afternoon,

Outlook 98 NT 4.0 SP4

I was working with a user on an Outlook scheduling problem and after we had
completed the rescheduling process
I was curious of how other people were handling reschedules.

Here is the scenario: User needed to reschedule a recurring meeting and the
resource that the meeting was to be held
was already occupied. The user removed the resource that was in use, and
found another resource.

Meeting was scheduled and the new resource accepted. The only problem that
remains is that the original resource
was left with a meeting but no one will be there.

How do you handle this rescheduling issue?

Thanks for your input.

Recurring meeting problems

2002-12-17 Thread Mitchell Mike
Good afternoon,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4...

Short of upgrading to Outlook 2000, please help me if you can.

We have a certain person that is having the recurring meeting blues. She is
getting illegal operation and it boots her off of Outlook.

It has been suggested that we delete her calendar after restoring it but
when I was using a test Outlook to do that, after deleting
the calendar and opening the test eMAIL box, the calendar didn't come back.

So I took the PST and restored over a existing calendar but I could not
reproduce her error on a machine other that hers. She ha
gotten a new work station and the problem of recurring meeting causing
Illegal operations still exists. It is on any recurring meeting.

We deleted her frmcache.dat and that only hung her recurring meeting up
saying they could not be found. I was a young spry kid
when this started now I am so old I am close to retirement.

Any help and support would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning,

Happy holidays.

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4

I have a user wanting to see the scheduled events for November 2003.
They
have several recurring meetings that
go well beyond that date but they are not showing up on the calendar
that
way. All dates are bolded. The events
for October 2003 are okay. But the scheduled events not showing up. My
calendar is the same way. I didn't think it
had anything to do with free/busy option but I changed to 12 months
anyway.
This did not make a difference.

Does anyone have a solution.

Thanks.

Calendar viewing problem

2002-12-17 Thread Mitchell Mike
Good morning,

Happy holidays.

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4

I have a user wanting to see the scheduled events for November 2003. They
have several recurring meetings that
go well beyond that date but they are not showing up on the calendar that
way. All dates are bolded. The events
for October 2003 are okay. But the scheduled events not showing up. My
calendar is the same way. I didn't think it
had anything to do with free/busy option but I changed to 12 months anyway.
This did not make a difference.

Does anyone have a solution.

Thanks.

Why a csv file and not a PST file?

I have corrected this by exporting the Calendar to a csv file and then
importing it back in ... not sure if this will work in your case.

Good morning,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4

I am beginning to have several problems with Outlook calendars for
resources. They do not show as scheduled, but people cannot schedule to
them.

We use the AutoAccept utility... The message comes back saying this
resource is already scheduled.

Please help me understand what to do.

I already ran the outlook /cleanreminders /cleanfreebusy switches. What am
I missing here?

Thanks.

Have you tried clearing out the outlook forms cache?

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q195/7/54.ASP

Close OLK.
Perform a Find for: Frmcache.dat
Delete it from the Find window.
Restart OLK. (A new frmcache.dat file will be created)

Flags for messages....

2002-09-13 Thread Mitchell Mike

Good morning,

Isn't the weather simply marvelous?

Outlook 98 and Exchange 5.5 SP4

The reminder pop up for flagged messages other that the contact list and
Inbox are not popping up.

These messages are changing colors showing they are past due, but the
reminders do not come. Does
anyone know how to correct this problem. The switch outlook /cleanreminders
/cleanfreebusy doesn't correct
the problem.

Any help would be appreciated. Have a great weekend.

confidentiality disclaimers

2002-09-03 Thread Mitchell Mike

Good morning,

Outlook 98 exchange 5.5 sp4

My management staff has decided they wanted a low cost way to put
confidentiality disclaimers on
the bottom of all eMAILs that are created by our users. They want they to
go during the send
process where the user has no control over them at all. They are wanting
all statements to be the
same.

Does anyone use this method?

You want to make sure the "Disable Automatic Replies to the Internet" is NOT
selected. This will allow mail forwarded by rules or Alternate Recipient
addressing to occur.

Forwarding MAil

2002-08-14 Thread Mitchell Mike

Good morning,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4

A small part of our organization is moving to their own mail server. They
don't like the way we restrict our Exchange/Outlook system.

What they want is to have all of the mail that is coming in for these twenty
users to be forwarded to the new domain. I think we can
do this with the alternate recipient but currently our Exchange server does
not allow the transfer of eMAIL to the Outside world. I
cannot find where this is turn on. Please help me.

Thanks.

Yes. I checked for filters and rules and there are none.

I also had the outside user send the messages to me with the same delays...
Seemed liked days, even

Well I have a YAHOO account as well, sometimes a delay happens but as you
mentioned, it works. I hate to ask but you did ensure (since it is only "1"
person) that there is no filtering rule on the client, sending e-mail from
this outside user to oblivion?

Good afternoon,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 sp4

I have a user that claims they are not receiving eMAILs from one person
outside the organization. I emailed that outside person and asked for a
reply. I cc: my Yahoo account so I could see if I was having networking
problems. I have checked this person's mailbox and there is no messages from
this outside person.

The outside person received my eMAIL and replied to all. My Yahoo account
got the reply just like that but my Outlook account finally got the message
after 4 1/2 hours... WOW. What is up with that? I have checked
my queues and nothing is backed up. I can send eMAIL to my Yahoo account
from my Outlook account and vice versa and the messages are received on a
timely bases. I have checked my logs and see nothing strange.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Please help me out.

Hi there

I agree. Yes, there is allot of goofing around - but that is why I have a
delete key on the keyboard.

I normally just ask questions - I'm still learning. But the day your boss
comes to you and asks you to post something on that "great newsgroup" you're
on, it's worth it's weight in gold :).

I hope you stay. I think you'll find there is allot of very useful
information here.

However, 100% of _your_ mail is allowed to be off-topic bitching ? Your
insulting characterizations of the membership of this list is not borne out
by the many many people that regularly comment on how this list has helped
them become a better Exchange professionals.

I am one of those. If someone wants to flame me or have some fun at my

investment my company has made in Exchange, not to maintain my self-esteem.

This is precisely what I'm talking about. I don't have a problem having

There is more knowledge on this list than you can imagine. We just prefer to
have a bit of fun during the day too. It helps make up for the "What is
ScanMail and what is it used for?" Questions.

If you don't like it, request a refund and go try the CareBears list. It's
down the road and to the left.

RE: 3rd party utility to check for mailboxes that are no longer b eing used....

2002-05-23 Thread Mitchell Mike

You are right Lori. I did not say new to the list, nor did I say brand new.
But I am new
compared to you older folks that have been doing this for years and years
and ions.

Except you're not new Mike. You've been asking questions of this caliber
for over a year. I'm beginning to believe that you cannot read.

Does anyone know of a 3rd party utility that can calculate the mailboxes
that are not currently being used. Since we are using Trend Micro's
Scanmail, we cannot depend on using the last time a user logs onto his/her
mailbox, since Scanmail does so on a regular basis. Any help would be
appreciated.

Date format change

2002-04-26 Thread Mitchell Mike

Good morning;

Outlook 98 and Exchange 5.5 SP4

Does anyone know how to change the date format over the daily schedule using
the day/week/month
format on Outlook? The lady is reporting she has 4/26/2002 and she wants
Friday, April 26.

I looked everywhere but could find how that can be changed.

Have a great weekend.

Having problems with accounts.

2002-04-18 Thread Mitchell Mike

Good morning,

Outlook 98. Exchange 5.5 sp4.

When looking at our Mailbox Resources list, we have several users that show
up. They have no
Windows NT account associated with these accounts. We receive the following
errors:

The object cannot be found in the directory. This may be because
replication has not been completed.

Microsoft Exchange Directory ID no: c101aae.

We cannot delete these accounts. I could not find anything in the KB.

Does anyone have a clue at what might be going on?

Baptism by fire, the usual experience.

Mike, next time instead of describing the problem vaguely, and then
proposing the solution that you intend to use and only asking questions
about how to implement that solution, be more direct.

First, describe the exact failure and include the exact text of the error
message that the users get. If you can identify a logged event, then
include that too.

It will save wear and tear on your asbestos suit.

Good morning,

Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5

We have mailboxes on two servers. Sometimes for no reason at all people
cannot get into one or the other server. There are no errors on the logs
and we can't figure out what is going on.

We would like to build a mailbox on each server that will allow us to test
if the server is working when people call into the Help Desk stating that
they cannot access the server.

I have built the mailbox and am trying to test this new procedure out. I
have given the help desk people USER permission on the mailbox. I have
created a new profile on the help desk workstation. When the Help desk
person signs on, they use their userid and password, they get the 'Unable to
open your default e-mail folders.
You do not have permissions to sign on.' message. I cannot figure out what
I am doing wrong.

I went to the knowledge database and get The logon credentials of the
Exchange Client or Outlook are different from the logon credentials of the
user logged into the workstation.
But what exactly does that mean? Please help me.

I believe the search feature on the Simpler-Webb website is functional and
you can always search the PDF version as well. Course the FAQ isn't all that
big, so reading it front to back or back to front doesn't usually hurt too
much.

You gotta wait 2 hours for the permissions to update. If you don't want to
wait read the FAQ to find out what you need to do.

I believe permissions propagation is covered in the FAQ link below.

Needing to open a mailbox to verify...

2002-04-09 Thread Mitchell Mike
