RE: Public folder limits

2002-01-17 Thread Bansal, Jaspal

It only gives a warning message and that too is not grammatically correct !.

"This public folder has exceeded one or more size limits set by your
administrator.
The public folder size is 750 KB

Public Folder size limits:
You will receive a warning when this public folder reaches 10 KB.

You may not be able to send or receive new mail until you reduce of the
public folder. To make more space available, delete any items that you are
no longer using.

See client Help for more information."

Any other ideas ???

RE: OWA for 5.5

2002-01-17 Thread Ellery July

My point is if you have E5.5 and run W2K server why would you want to run
owa2000 but not E2K. I understand that OWA2000 adds some nice features
(multiple calendars, etc) but E2K adds some very nice admin stuff.

For many companies I've talked to, OWA in 2000 is the primary reason for
migrating to Exchange2000. The rest doesn't really affect the client that
much.

Hi all,
As many of you suggested, some sleuthing was required. What I
discovered is that in the Winnt folder there were thousands of wfv*
folders. A little further research found that backup exec from veritas was
the cause.

Backup exec has its own virus scanner which I run before backup, as a
secondary scanning method, apparently when it finds a *.cab file that it
doesn't like it copies it to a wfv folder

voila... some time later, no space.

Thanks again for all your assistance

another thing to check is that your backup software is not writing log files
to c: drive. My guess is the same as William, I suspect your page file is
using most of the space. You may also need to look at your system variables
as temp/tmp may be pointing to c:\temp ?

Just suggestions, but I'm sure the install of Exchange still creates a
directory on C: drive, (c:\exchsvr) that contains a number of files.

When you say the folders only amount to ~1Gb, How did you work this out?
Have you looked at the properties for C: drive to see what the OS reports as
free space? What format is your file system ( FAT, NTFS)?

S many variables.

Does the upgrade path fit your companies' needs? Exchange2000 is a good
move, but there is a learning curve. The end users do not really see any
difference aside from OWA. AD deployment should not be underestimated
either.

I do not know. I like to keep plugging away at new technologies. I say go

Hi All,

I have created a user called Support and a mailbox for that user on

permissions to the Support inbox and can view Support's inbox while her own
email is open. I want to set it up so the auto-response feature will happen

Any help with this would be and is greatly appreciated.

No, it just means that if you were to attach to that mailbox with OL98
instead of 2K, you may have some issues with the rules. Don't worry about
that at all.

RE: Exchange Scanmail problem...

2002-01-17 Thread Martin Blackstone

You have waited too long already for SP4. One improvement in the SP is in
the AVAPI. There is no reason for you to wait any longer. You could do this
in a couple of hours.
Uninstall Scanmail, reboot
Install SP4, Reboot
Install Scanmail
Run Optimizer

upgrade to 3.52 for free, but the only other issue is that I HAVE to upgrade
to 5.5 sp4, which I was planning on doing, but know have to do it a little
soon than planned. We are blocking most of those attachments, I guess only
from coming in, :), but can't do all of them.

Both the sender and the recipient receive a message saying the attachment

Just wondering if anyone has seen this issue before, or if maybe this is

Clarifying what Martin said, when you make the rule up there is an
option to have the server reply using a specific message or template.
That will make it a server side rule.

might be OT, but I am trying to block attachments, both incoming and

Both the sender and the recipient receive a message saying the attachment
has been blocked, but for some reason the recipient still receives the
message. Incoming messages with attachments ARE being blocked by scanmail.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this issue before, or if maybe this is
just a fluke with my system.

I think 3.51 was a free upgrade. You should see if you can find that.
Also, use AVAPI, MAPI and Message Body scanning.

Good point. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I assumed it would only go

I have now. :)

Seems to indicate that rich text was included with the original message.
But I looked at the item she sent, and there were no colors, bold, underline
etc. in the message so I'm not sure where that is coming from.

I have now gone into the IMS and put in entries for the domains having
trouble to always send in plain text. I hope that will fix the problem.

Subject: Problems with Distribution list

Got a strange one that I'm hoping someone has the solution for. One of our
users regularly sends out attachments to a bunch of external email address
that are not setup as custom recipients on our system. She has a personal
distribution list that she uses which contains all the addresses. Some of
the people that she sends to report that the attachment arrives at their end
with an attachment named "C.DTF" instead of the file she attached.

Q259065 says this can happen when sending Rich Text messages to a Lotus
Notes MTA. But I checked the last time she sent a message and verified that
it was all in plain text. She still says some people reported getting the
C.DTF file. But it only seems to happen when sending to the group as a
whole. When people send her replies saying they couldn't open the file, she
then replies directly to that person with the original attachment, and they
always receive that one fine. From looking at the DL, it looks to have
about 65 addresses in it.

Anyone seen this one before? Should I try putting those names in our system
as custom recipients? Or maybe creating a DL on the exchange server with
all those names in it?

By the way, Exchange 5.5, SP4 running on W2K server, SP2. Client is Outlook
2000.

Hello folks,

We are at 30 days up time in my Exchange 5.5 environment. I am starting
to
get calls again from folks saying they are not receiving Internet
E-mail.
The inbound and outbound queues are empty and the CPU usage is not
pegged
through the roof. The mail may appear hours/days later or not at all
until
the servers are rebooted.
It seems to effect 4 or 5 people at random and gets worse the closer to
40
days up time we get. I can reboot the servers and it goes away until we
get
to 30+ days uptime again.

Exchange 5.5 sp4 site running on NT4.0 SP6a servers. The user servers
are
running ScanMail 3.51 with eManger 3.1. The IMC server is not running
any
anti virus.

Any ideas? And does anyone really like the new MS TechNet web interface?

I currenlty have 9 exchange clusters. I am using Ms Clustering.. It works.. not to bad.. When you failover you do have a little response time isue but its a few sec. You have to de side on what type of clustering you want..

Active / passive
Active / Active

I am using Active / Passive...  Active / Active does cost a lot but better repsonse time and reliablily.

I have files/home dir and over 1000 printers on the cluster.. It took around 45 min to fail them over.
NOTE: I diddn't set these up.. Also my hardware is some what old. I have had some cluster corruption but as far as aexchange it been fine.. It mostly comes down to how much do they want to spend compared to how they feel reliablity.

I have installed the NSI Double-Take solution for exchange.  It's a really slick package as long as you set it up properly.  We have failed over the exchange services twice with very successful results.  This was on an NT 4.0 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 SP3 environment.  The target server is the File and Print server.  You will lose a little response time while failed over but it's only temporary while you repair the original exchange server.

This product works with most applications.

My immediate supervisor mentioned that when we finally get new Exchange
Servers that we should have them clustered.  Now I have never clustered
servers before and wouldn't know how to start, but I just wanted to get
everyone's opinions on the subject to begin with.  How hard is it to do,
and
how is it to maintain.  What are the pro's and con's.  Any help would be

RE: Clustering Exchange

2002-01-17 Thread Todd Wood

I have installed the NSI Double-Take solution for exchange. It's a really slick
package as long as you set it up properly. We have failed over the exchange services
twice with very successful results. This was on an NT 4.0 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 SP3
environment. The target server is the File and Print server. You will lose a little
response time while failed over but it's only temporary while you repair the original
exchange server.

This product works with most applications.

For
XCHG2000 I say DAH - "IF" you have a solid cluster solution with

Subject: Delayed/Non delivery of Internet mail

Hello folks,

We are at 30 days up time in my Exchange 5.5 environment. I am starting to
get calls again from folks saying they are not receiving Internet E-mail.
The inbound and outbound queues are empty and the CPU usage is not pegged
through the roof. The mail may appear hours/days later or not at all until
the servers are rebooted. It seems to effect 4 or 5 people at random and
gets worse the closer to 40 days up time we get. I can reboot the servers
and it goes away until we get to 30+ days uptime again.

Exchange 5.5 sp4 site running on NT4.0 SP6a servers. The user servers are
running ScanMail 3.51 with eManger 3.1. The IMC server is not running any
anti virus.

Any ideas? And does anyone really like the new MS TechNet web interface?

OWA has just stopped, I rebooted both machines - still no joy.
I then restored a backup - still no joy.
The only error message that comes up if you leave it long enough is;
error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/exchange/USA/LogonFrm.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can
change this limit by specifying a new value for the property
Server.ScriptTimeOut or by changing the value in the IIS administration
tools.
I have checked the timeouts and they are fine.
ANY IDEAS???

Hello!

Way back in the day when our Exchange server
was installed, it was installed
with the vgreen.com domain. We are now the
villagegreen.com domain. Does
this really matter? I think it does. It
seems like when we send e-mail, it
says it comes from vgreen.com. Is this true?
How can I check this? When
an admin friend of mine replies to my mail,
he sees the following message in
his firewall logs:

vgreen.com.191.216.216.in-addr.arpa
216.216.191.226: can't verify reverse
address - hostname not found

Where is this reverse lookup looking?

Is there a way to change Exchange, without
reinstalling to reflect the
villagegreen.com domain?

p.s. What is the best way to look at the
headers of e-mail messages?

Eric

Subject: Internet mail question

I currently have to active connections to the 'net: one through provider A
(whom we've had for some time but are phasing out) and one through provider
B (whom we're phasing in). Both have active connections tot he network
segment where the unprotected interface of my firewall lives.

E-mail comes and goes just fine through Provider A when I set its router as
the default gateway on my firewall.

When I set up provider B's router as my default gateway I can send e-mails
fine, but can't receive them.

I know that the required DNS changes showing my new addresses haven't
filtered through yet. My question is, when I'm using my new provider as my
default route to the 'net and some one sends an e-mail to me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED], shouldn't it still be able to come in via my old (and
still activeand connected) internet connection and be delivered to my
exchange server?

Configuration:

Exposed firewalla.b.c.180
/29 network
Old connection (A) a.b.c.179 /29
network
New connection (B) a.b.c.177 /29
network

I'm probably missing something totally obvious here, but hey, a chance to
learn is a chance to learn.

Thanks.

OWA 5.5 has just stopped and i can't start it again!

2002-01-17 Thread James Palmer

I am Using exchange 5.5 sp3 on one server and IIS4 with OWA 5.5 sp3 on
another server. OS is NT4.
OWA has just stopped, I rebooted both machines - still no joy.
I then restored a backup - still no joy.
The only error message that comes up if you leave it long enough is;
error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/exchange/USA/LogonFrm.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can
change this limit by specifying a new value for the property
Server.ScriptTimeOut or by changing the value in the IIS administration
tools.
I have checked the timeouts and they are fine.
ANY IDEAS???

Regards,

James Palmer

Distribute personal information

2002-01-17 Thread Schart, Vlastimil

Server :
Windows NT Server 4.0 SP 6a
Exchange Server 5.5 SP3
Clients :
Outlook 97

We have an ISP that holds our external e-mail. Clients (about 220) are using
Outlook 97 with Internet e-mail service
to connect to our ISP to download e-mail.

Today when we want new accounts, delete accounts, change accounts we have to
contact our ISP and
tell them to make the changes. If we move to another server (at ISP) we can
administer our accounts
ourselves. But this implies that all our users need to reconfigure Internet
e-mail service with new account
name, new password and new server-name.

All this information (account name, password) will be stored in an
Excel-file. How could I distribute this information
so that every user just gets his/hers own information ?

Thanks,
Vlastimil
