Internet Mail Connector - HELP
We have run exchange 5.5 for a while on a NT 4.0 box, but we have not used it for internet email. What do I need to do to put our exchange server on the internet? I have ran through the setup of adding the Internet Mail Connector many times in a lab setting. Our ISP said that can start routing it to us (instead of them) and they said we could use mail.company.com. My question is where do I put that? Do we use mail as the hostname and company.com as the domain in the DNS settings within TCP/IP? Any other installation suggestions or standard settings that we should use would be great. Thanks! RE: Internet Mail Connector - HELP
They handle the DNS settings on your behalf. If you want the SMTP mail to be sent to you, punch a hole in your firewall and assign it an external static address mapped to the Exchange SMTP service location (your Exchange server). Provide that IP address to your ISP and they will start funneling the SMTP mail to you. But, your not done - there are relay items as well as configuration issues that you want to look at - I have several links off my website to Exchange FAQ's that walk you through step by step (www.clarksupport.com). Forwarding messages via X.400 connector

Converting was not possible because of errors in html code inside of wrapped messages so bridge server sent it back as non-deliverable. It must be something wrong with bridge server because the home server (server where the mailbox is actually located) sent this message fine. I tried to send this same message to another user in our site and message was delivered fine. I can say that message was 80 kB in size - our X.400 limit is much higher. We were able to send a regular message to user in another country with no problems. Any idea? His Outlook client has stopped showing the arrows when he responds. We have tried recreating his profile, reinstalling Outlook 98 and even upgrading to Outlook 2000. The server is 5.5, SP4. Anyone care to venture a guess on this one? Title: Forwarding messages via X.400 connector Changing the "SA" account isn't so bad. Just follow the KB article. Moving the NT Server, IMHO won't be so bad either. Depending on the number of users...break out your csv editor and whack the ntaccount section. If you aren't trying to maintain the edb's, why not just rebuild it? Might be faster, depending on the hardware. John Weber Consultant Centerlogic 503-262-0490 x203 -Original Message-From: Darrin J. Bummer - there was a posting about this a few weeks back. I think they were bumping it to PSS as it seems to happen for everyone. Maybe it's in the XP SP1? Outlook/Exchange
We have a developer who had written a program that runs in UNIX (Of which I know nothing about) to monitor specific things on our imaging system and page one of us fortunate systems folks for specific errors on the system. He also wants to provide us with a way to send an e-mailed response to a designated mail account if the problem does not require immediate response, but service can be delayed. His program would search the mail for key text or specific characters that would tell it wether or not to escalate the issue or put it aside. Is there a way to do this directly from the mail server? Also - another alternative I guess, would be to install the Outlook client on a machine and set up a rule to save these messages to a text file that his program could search. I didn't see any rules in Outlook 2000 that would enable us to do that. Does Microsoft provide a way to customize your own rules? We are running Exchange 5.5, SP4 on an NT4, SP6a system. Thanks. RE: Outlook/Exchange
I've never heard of such a solution from MS. You may want to look at Event Log Monitor for triggered events - it may answer your requirements. RE: Questions about Outlook.
That's the problem. With older versions of Outlook pre 2000 you can only create distribution lists in either the GAL using the exchange admin utility or in the Personal Address Book. The problem is that list in the GAL is a pain to administer ( this user expects to be able to do things by himself) and the pab list cannot be shared. I expect with Outlook 2000 it is possible to create the DL in this PF and give it permissions as you have stated. -Original Message- From: Ellery July [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, 23 January 2002 22:21 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Questions about Outlook. How about just having s/he create the DL in the PF then giving permissions to people s/he wants to use it. ellery july phone - 651-225-3895 -Original Message- From: Wayne Hanks [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2002 8:46 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Questions about Outlook. Hi gurus, I have the following setup and need to resolve the situation if possible. Exchange server is NT4 sp6, Exch 5.5 sp3 client is Outlook 98 I have a user who has setup a contacts folder in a public folder and would like to create a distribution list in this folder that can be accessed by the staff in his group. I have found a couple of ways of doing this. The first is to install Outlook 2000 ( I believe the CAL for Exchange allows this) which apparently can create a distribution list in any contacts folder ( http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/dl.htm http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/dl.htm ). I would need to get hold of the media or the install for this so I don't know if this is an option. The second option also comes from the slipstick.com site and is a utility called contlist.exe which allows you to create contact lists in any contacts folder (including public folders) for OL98. The problem I have here is that the file provided is only a 30 day demo and the company that supported it ( Simplecomputing.net) is no longer around. Can anyone tell me where I can contact the author (Stephen P. Johnson formerly of Simple Computing LLC) of this program to try and organise a license for this program as this is the simplest solution for me. cheers Wayne Hanks Systems Administrator Paterson Ord Minnett Ph 08 9263 1114 fax 08 9325 1086 Don't Panic -Douglas Adams The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
