RE: Can't set SSL cert services to none on Ex07
Chris I had/have the same issue - as I understood it the cmdlet just doesn't work as advertised, or you cannot have a certificate installed with no services attached to it. Regards Richard -Original Message- From: bounce-8640089-8066...@lyris.sunbelt-software.com [mailto:bounce-8640089-8066...@lyris.sunbelt-software.com] On Behalf Of Chris W. I discovered that I mistakenly added SMTP as one of the services on the new cert when I think I should have only enabled it on IMAP, POP, and IIS. This means that get-exchangecertificate results in two certificates being on SMTP. To remove all the services I tried enable-exchangecertificate -thumbprint new_cert_thumbprint -services none. This resulted in no errors but still get-exchangecertificate shows the same results. Any ideas on this? OT: LTO4 Back Up Processes
Our LTO3 library just hit the skids so before I look at replacing it I am looking around to make sure this is still best practice. Other than those that do back up to disk and archive to tape processes, is LTO4 libraries best practice, and are they backward compatible to LTO3 and LTO2 tapes (I will double check this elsewhere also, just wanted to throw it out and get experienced feedback).
RE: LTO4 Back Up Processes
LTO4 is a good tape standard to use, We have a dell library for our exchange backups, the only information I was warned about is that the you need a good backbone as if there are any delays in data being written to the tapes then you can have it all corrupted. We were advised (after purchase) that we should backup to disk then back that up to tape after. LTO4 will read and write to LTO3 but not LTO2 (we have got 2x LTO4 and 2xLTO3 drives to overcome this issue. Re: Can't set SSL cert services to none on Ex07
Outlook complaining would have nothing to do with smtp and more with IIS. Specifically autodiscover. You are correct the -services none parameter does not work and the documentation is misleading on Technet and is due to change shortly. If this is NOT the default cert (the one used for x-anonymous tls) and it is just a self-signed cert you created, why not just run remove-exchangecertificate? If it is a 3rd party CA cert and you only want to remove smtp as a service then go to c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys and remove Network Service from the ACL of the cert file in there. You can find which cert is yours by matching the timestamp on your cert when you run get-exchangecertificate |fl NotBefore and attempt to match that time with a date modified timestamp in the file system within that folder That will remove smtp as a service from the cert but based on what you write I don't think smtp is the issue here Thanks On Wed, Aug 26, 2009 at 4:08 AM, Sobey, Richard Ar.so...@imperial.ac.uk wrote: Chris I had/have the same issue - as I understood it the cmdlet just doesn't work as advertised, or you cannot have a certificate installed with no services attached to it. Added a Second Back-End Server OWA not working
I have added a second back-end Exchange 2003 server. The server is in the same admin group. I moved a test mailbox enable user account to the new back-end server; the user can access email using Outlook. OWA was fine for user on the first Exchange 2003 server. But the test user account on the second back-end server cannot access OWA. When the test user connects to the Front-End Server, they receive the user name password pop-up box. When they enter their credentials nothing happens. The Login window keeps popping back (3 times) and finally they get an HTTP /1.1 401 Unauthorized error. No modification has been made on the front-end server. The firewall is configured to allow HTTP or HTTPs communication from the Front-end to the Back-end servers. Has anyone come across this issue, and how did you resolve it. Did not find any information on MS web site. Regards, Gary Babb

Re: LTO4 Back Up Processes
I actually never gave consideration to going to disk then tape. I am not sure we can do that here but it would speed up processes I would think. This is good advice and we will research it. On the tape compatibility, we did see that LTO2 was read only on LTO4 devices, which would be an issue for us. We will research it further. Thank you! IIS is started. I'm not too familiar with IIS, however from the Front-end server I can connect to be new back-end server with OWA https://new_back-end_server/exchange. When I enter the test user account credential OWA opens. Regards, Gary

Event 9667 - Named properties quota limit
Getting the following in the Exchange 2003 server application log: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeIS Event Category: General Event ID: 9667 Date: 8/26/2009 Time: 1:31:25 PM User: N/A Computer: OTIS Description: Failed to create a new named property for database First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (OTIS) because the number of named properties reached the quota limit (8192). User attempting to create the named property: BESAdmin Named property GUID: 00020386---c000-0046 Named property name/id: cd Googling finds that I can bump the limit up in the registry. That's all well and good, but it goes on to say that if I hit the 32K limit the information store won't work anymore. Okay, so if I bump the registry setting up to say... 16K, what are the odds that I'll hit that number any time soon? And from what I've read, if it hits the 32K mark, the information store doesn't work anymore. The fix for this appears to be creating another database and copying all the mailboxes over to it, but won't the quota just fill up again eventually? Paul
RE: Event 9667 - Named properties quota limit
This was a major area of effort in Exchange Server 2007 SP2. These fixes are not (and as far as I know, will not be) backported to Exchange Server 2003. Go ahead and bump it to 16K. Probably not, most likely x-headers coming in from the internet, or if you are like us with many home grown apps that send mail those apps may be at fault.
