Dear Hideyo,

I have been following your posts, and know the anguish
you have felt over your kitties. I too, do rescue,
and can relate. My good friend called last night.
She is also into rescue. Last month she accidently
exposed her cats to distemper. She lost 35. It broke
all our hearts. Anyway, she was doing dishes, and
heard the unmistakable meewing of newborns. One of
her females during all the illness had been pregnant
when brought in. She gave birth to 2. One died
within hours. We are on our way to vets this AM.

You kind of have to keep things in perspective. Cats
in the wild live only 2 or 3 yrs. If you bring them
home, and they die, at least they have had loving
hands stroking them, a warm bed, medicine to ease
their pain, and if necessary help in going to the
bridge. Don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing
great things!!

I will keep you in my prayers,
Dede

Hi, everyone, I have a couple of kitties who are not feeling too well and I
need you to send them positive energy and white beam of light – when you lose
more than one kitties to FIP.. you become so paranoid.. when they sneeze, run
fever.. you think they have FIP – and I am so tired of being fearful of this
disease – my older boy Rikki has lot lots of weight and he is anemic and I am a
bit freaking out, and my ayumi has mouth sore and can’t really eat and lost
lots of weight and am not sure whether I should do a dental for her for certain
conditions that she is in right now.. and my new rescued boy Toni, has had
sneeze and running fever today – and am a little bit paranoid and worried.

Please pray all of the babies are just going to be fine.

It is better to do it IV because this ensures it gets everywhere it is
supposed to go. It is what the drug company says to do. But my vet said that if
 a
drug can be given IV, then it is safe to give it sub-q or IM, just potentially
 not as effective.

I think it is fine to combine it with interferon.

Re: need prayers

2006-11-16 Thread Jennifer Phaewryn O'Gwynn
Are you SURE that there are no fleas in the house? Fleas are the most common
cause of anemia. Did you test them for Hemobartonella (several times,
several different cats)? What brand of food do you feed (what's the first
ingredient)?

Hemobartonella: How is Diagnosis Confirmed? Confirmation of diagnosis has
been problematic since the discovery of the organism. Because it lacks a
cell wall, Mycoplasma haemophilus cannot be cultured, which means one cannot
simply culture a blood sample and isolate the organism the way one might
isolate the organism causing something like a urinary tract infection. Most
reference labs scan all feline blood samples under the microscope looking
for the characteristic appearance of infected red blood cells (see graphic
at the top of the page). Unfortunately, the number of organisms cycles in a
matter of hours such that the number of infected cells can change from 90%
to 1% in a matter of 3 hours. This makes it very easy to miss infected
cells, even in a grossly infected cat.

Hemobartonella felis was first discovered in Africa in 1942 but it was not
recognized as a mycoplasma until gene sequencing was possible recently. This
has led to renaming Hemobartonella felis to Mycoplasma haemophilus, though
after decades of celebrity we shall see if they new name becomes commonly
used. Complicating matters further, gene sequencing has revealed a second
species, previously thought to be another variant of Hemobartonella felis.
This one, which is smaller, has been named Candidatus M haemominutum. This
smaller mycoplasma seems to only be a problem for cats infected with the
feline leukemia virus.

having bloody stools early this morning – or I should say, there really was no
stools, just tons and tons of dark red bloods coming out like a flood so much
came out that I almost fainted – I never seen so much blood at one place– she
has also thrown up – I took her to her the emergency clinic getting some IV
and antibiotics – she bleeded there also.  After some testing, they
narrowed it down to a couple of things – and they are hoping that fluid
therapy and the antibiotics will treat her -  please pray for Cork’s
recovery – a poor baby, she is very scared there, she is never out of the
house and I really want to be able to bring her home
  soon!

Also, last Saturday, I rescued a
boy kitty who I had been feeding for several months now.  I  noticed
that he lost lots of weight (I hadn’t seen him for a couple of weeks) – and I
took him to the vet – everything seems to be OK except that on ELISA, he
tested positive on FIV – now I am having Cornell Lab to do the western blot
(as I had a couple of cats who tested positive on FIV via ELISA, and ended up
negative later) – anyway, now I have to figure out where to place him – he
must have belonged to someone a long time ago, as he is very friendly and used
to people. I talked to Carl (I named him Carl) via AC – Carl told my AC that
he used to be an indoor kitty when she was a kitten, and somehow he became an
outdoor kitty, and somehow, then he did not have a home anywhere – I asked via
AC, if he would like to stay with me and to be an indoor kitty, he said “he
would like that very much” – I hope his lost weight is just a temporary, and I
am so praying that the western blot will come back as negative – please also
pray for Carl’s well-being, he is such a sweet baby, and he has had a rough
  life since he had lost
home…

Thank you, Kerry – it just makes me
mad that if his original owner was responsible enough, he wouldn’t have
to live on street like he has been, and he may not have gotten FIV.  He was not
even neutered – I probably should have taken him in several months ago
when I first saw him, then, he might not have gotten FIV either – that’s
my only regret – poor baby Carl – I hope he gains his weight back

One of my 4 year old babies, a mutt doggy, Corky (mix of
Scottie, Westie and Schnauzer) all of sudden started having bloody stools early
this morning – or I should say, there really was no stools, just tons and
tons of dark red bloods coming out like a flood so much came out that I almost
fainted – I never seen so much blood at one place– she has also
thrown up – I took her to her the emergency clinic getting some IV and
antibiotics – she bleeded there also.  After some testing, they narrowed
it down to a couple of things – and they are hoping that fluid therapy
and the antibiotics will treat her -  please pray for Cork’s
recovery – a poor baby, she is very scared there, she is never out of the
house and I really want to be able to bring her home soon!

Also, last Saturday, I rescued a boy kitty who I had been
feeding for several months now.  I  noticed that he lost lots of
weight (I hadn’t seen him for a couple of weeks) – and I took him
to the vet – everything seems to be OK except that on ELISA, he tested
positive on FIV – now I am having Cornell Lab to do the western blot (as
I had a couple of cats who tested positive on FIV via ELISA, and ended up
negative later) – anyway, now I have to figure out where to place him
– he must have belonged to someone a long time ago, as he is very
friendly and used to people. I talked to Carl (I named him Carl) via AC –
Carl told my AC that he used to be an indoor kitty when she was a kitten, and
somehow he became an outdoor kitty, and somehow, then he did not have a home
anywhere – I asked via AC, if he would like to stay with me and to be an
indoor kitty, he said “he would like that very much” – I hope
his lost weight is just a temporary, and I am so praying that the western blot
will come back as negative – please also pray for Carl’s
well-being, he is such a sweet baby, and he has had a rough life since he had
lost home…

Thank you very much, Joan.  I just talked
to the vet at the emergency clinic, Corky has not been bleeding or vomiting
since she was on the antibiotics and IV fluid but she said Corky looks still a
bit uncomfortable -  they were also worried that she might become anemic since
she lost so much blood – the doc told me to call her back in a couple of
hours to see if I can take her home tonight -

I've read to use Phorphorus too, but also have read that Arnica is used in
England sometimes after surgery, to stop bleeding. It's always worked for
me. I realize that's not the "method" to use in deciding on a remedy, but
for the situations I've been in, it's worked very well.

Hideyo,

Many prayers coming for Cork and Carl -

FYI, I use homeopathic Arnica for bleeding, usually. Use it on myself
for
nosebleed and I used it on my beloved kitty Nicky before he died - mouth

bleeding, vet said cancer. Works great.

Lucy's diarrhea has gotten significantly worse-- she had a large quantity
of liquid diarrhea 5 times today.  She also vomited up the raw food that
I syringed her, about 5 hours after she ate it.  She is purry and able to
go up and down stairs, but a bit out of it.  I will call the vet in the
am as soon as they open.  Please send her energy, prayers, etc.

I gave her about 100 ml of fluids this morning. Do you think I should
give her more?  I am not force-feeding her any more today and have
removed all food, hoping that by fasting her for 12-18 hours it will stop the
diarrhea. This has worked for her before, and is recommended on a lot of
  websites.

I have to believe this is from the antibiotics, as she had been doing
well before getting the URI and going on antibiotics, and on day 4 of clavamox
she suddenly went from completely solid stools to complete liquid, with no
in-between.  I am assuming that it happened from accumulated effect of
the clavamox. I am hoping, anyway. Probiotics did not nothing, and may have
made her worse, as she is worse today than she was yesterday.

If anyone has any thoughts about whether or not I should give her more
fluids, please let me know. Otherwise, I am not giving her anything else
tonight, will talk to the vet in the morning and plan to fast her, and then
will see if she will eat some cooked turkey with fiber powder mixed in (her
usual fare is cooked turkey with fiber and bone meal and taurine, E, and B
  vitamins mixed in).

I am quite worried about her.  Last night, despite having had
diarrhea in the morning, she was very perky and playful, and this morning came
running to see me in the morning. She has declined through the day with
increased diarrhea.  She likes me to pet her, and she purrs a lot, but is
pretty wiped out. As I guess would be expected from diarrhea and
  vomiting.

  Thanks,
  Michelle

Just watch her for dehydration. Sub-Q would be better than orally, if she's
not holding anything in that way. Sending healing vibes for her! Try sub-Q
fluids. Maybe just plain boiled chicken (or even raw?)... TINY amounts
though.

2006-10-29 Thread Lance

Michelle,

I'm so sorry to hear Lucy is having such bad bowel troubles. I hope
it's the antibiotic. Seems like a likely culprit. I think fasting for
12-18 hours is a very good idea. I've done this with Ember, and I
think it helps them gain some ground, and those intestines get a
break they really need from all the violence going on down there.
Can't imagine why liquids would be a problem. I'm fairly sure I've
not taken up Ember's water when she's had diarrhea; just the food.
Prayers for Lucy's speedy recuperation.

Prayers that Lucy is just worn out from being sick and that she bounces
back very soon. Is she drinking water on her own? If she's hydrated, I
don't think I'd give her anymore fluid right now. It just seems the
extra fluid, esp on a fast, won't help diarrhea. It's just a gut
impulse, I don't know if it has anything to do with what might really
help her. I'll be anxiously awaiting your post that tells us she's
feeling better and pooping better too.

Dear Michelle – my prayers are with
you and Lucy and will be visualizing Lucy feeling great very very soon.  You
might want to pull her skin and see how dehydrated she is so that it will give
you a better idea whether she needs more fluid or not.  Have you tried slippery
elm – it will sooth the tummy  I think its form clavomox – it does
to some cats.. she is basically getting all the bad stuff out of her system –
is she running any fever or anything -- ?  And I am so sure that she is
eahustend from vomiting and having loose stools.. when I got think and I had to
throw up, it wiped me out, too..

Keep us posted --- Michelle – don’t
worry too much, but keep only the positive thoughts – Lucy is very strong
.. she is going to  be just just fine….

fluids, please let me know.

As I guess would be expected from diarrhea and
  vomiting.

  Thanks,
  Michelle

Re: Need prayers for Lucy

2006-10-30 Thread Kerry Roach
Hi Michelle, I hope Lucy is feeling better this morning...I just read the latest, and I agree with Nina, that she might not have needed any added fluids yet..I would give her some metronidazole if you have some...It is flagyl.. Inky has another loose stool as well so I gave him some metro and upped the pred to 10mg again...I gave him the 7.5mg on Sat, but I went ahead and started with the higher dose...He wants to eat too much is his problem...and it is very hard for me to not give him what he wants...I really think this is what started his loose stool last week..I guess it is a good thing that he meows at me and wants more, but sad on my part to not give it to him cause I know what will happen.. Anyway, I hope you get some answers when you get in touch with your vet. Keep us posted...Head butts from my crew to yours, You are in our thoughts and prayers, Kerry, Bandy and Inky..
Also, Bandy has been sick with runny stool last 5 days and have given him some metro, too...He never gets that..and he threw up, too...That is a first for him so I hope I have gotten him back on track...the ringworm meds, I think are taking a toll on him as we just can't tottally get rid of it..as yet..No fever though since Aug. 5...that was a long 14 months with the up and down fevers..So fingers crossed that it stays down...

Michelle,   Hi, yes it was my Bailey that had all but his canines and tiny insisors in between pulled. Just make sure the dental included pulling the roots and cleaning out the cavities, otherwise she may still have a problem. I just found out from one of my other lists late yesterday from a girl who's cat had sever stomastitis that it is a good idea to have dentals done by specialists who do dentals only because they know to clean the cavities. I need to ask my vet if this was done. I know the roots were pulled but didn't know about the cavities needing to be cleaned out.  Prayers for her to feel much better and start eating soon :)  -- Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats ...  Be-Mi-Kitties ... http://www.bemikitties.com  Post Adoptable FeLV/FIV/FIP Cats/Kittens http://adopt.bemikitties.com  FeLV Candle Light Service http://www.bemikitties.com/cls  HostDesign4U.com (affordable hosting & web design) http://HostDesign4U.com  ---  BMK Designs (non-profit web sites) http://bmk.bemikitties.com

Hideyo,
I haven't been able to keep up with the list the way I usually do.  I
know that you've had concerns about Naomi and she is always in my
prayers, as are you and all your babies, (how is Ayumi, btw?).  I'm so
praying that her behavior is just part of her temperment, that she's
just more laid back than most.  It's hard to believe that any kitten
would just not feel like playing though.  I don't know what the heck
the "soft body" means.  Do you mean that she doesn't have defined
muscles?  Please let us know how she is doing and if you figure
anything out.  You always have your hands so full of strife and worry.
You're a better woman than I Hideyo, I'm sure I would have caved under
the stress you deal with daily.  I wonder if they allow internet access
in the looney bin?  Try to keep optomistic, you are an incredible
miracle worker, if anyone can help Naomi, you can.

Hi, nina, thank you for your response…
I am sorry that I haven’t called you back since Sunday.. I have been
really struggling with what happened to Neal and Scubie.. and I am still upset
about it..

Anyway, I took Naomi to my vet for now…
the 4th time… We couldn’t get blood out from her.. she
is very feisty and wouldn’t stay still and her blood vein is very small..
so we did not want to stress her out too much.. and the vet did not strongly
believe that she has fluid retention in the tummy.. so we did not try to draw
fluid out of her tummy either.. she has chronic URIS and can’t smell much…
also one of her pupils size is not round … and seems that she has eye inflammation..
the vet thinks it may be something to do with Chlamydia.. (sp?).. but again, I
am so afraid of it may being FIP… any little symptoms she has, I can’t
help but attributing to FIP… but there is really no way to confirm it.. not
without blood work at least anyway.. last time (a week ago or so) when we took
her blood, her TP was 7.. so I did not think of her having FIP at all..  yep..
when I say she is so soft.. I meant to say.. she does not have any muscle tones…
she is just so wobbly…I squeeze all other kittens.. and she is just soft.

My vet is optimistic.. and she thinks that
she is just suffering from URIs.. but I just can’t help thinking that there
is something more.. but don’t know for sure what it is..

Hey, I meant to ask.. if doxcyclin safe
for kittens?  She has been on clavmox.. but the vet wants me to try
doxcycline.. and I am a bit nervous about it.. since she is so small.. I think
you have used on your kittens, right?

I hope everyone is doing okay at your
house..

just now  and took him to the vet.. and from the blood work.. he may have
FIP.. (hard to be too sure).. he is not eating at all now.. and I am worried..
feline interferon has been introduced as a potential “cure” in
small percentage of cats who have FIP and am ordering from UK ---

But I need you guys to send him a very very strong healing
energy – whatever it is, he is going to come through and get better.

My another 4 months old Wai (not a sister of Naomi, but a
daughter of Bella) is now running 105 fever --- and if you can add Wai to your
prayer as well that will be so great!.

Hi, I need to ask you guys for more
prayers --- this is just too much to take it right now – but I’ve got to do
everything I can to take care of him.. my Peter, a beautiful orange boy who is 1
and half years old has lost lots of weight for the past two months or so.. and I
was so caught up with Naomi and did not pay enough attention to him and did not
notice until just now  and took him to the vet.. and from the blood work..
he may have FIP.. (hard to be too sure).. he is not eating at all now.. and I am
worried.. feline interferon has been introduced as a potential “cure” in small
percentage of cats who have FIP and am ordering from UK
---

But I need you guys to send him a
very very strong healing energy – whatever it is, he is going to come through
and get better.

My another 4 months old Wai (not a
sister of Naomi, but a daughter of Bella) is now running 105 fever --- and if
you can add Wai to your prayer as well that will be so
great!.

Nina, I am so sorry. But were you referring to my Simon? If so, he did not
have kidney failure. He had lymphoma in his liver and his spleen and bone
marrow. When he was dying the first time, or I thought he was, it was due to his
anemia from the lymphoma in his bone marrow. He had to stop chemo because his
liver values were too bad. But several shots of depomedrol and dexamethasone
brought his blood values almost to normal so he could continue chemo, and he
lived another month, most of it good, before he died of a hemolytic reaction to
his cancer or to the chemo (his blood count went from normal to under 10 in 2
days).

you said reminds me of Peter- I really would like to see the blood work
they did on him - could he have dry FIP? It just seems to be so weird
and again reminds me of what happened to Peter and Naomi..all their
blood was pretty normal with them being slightly anemic..Nina, I am

cried on the very last day and I knew he was very much in pain and never

No sweetie, I was talking about my feral boy, Simon. The Siamese that I
ended up helping cross with a touch of Valium. Do you remember him?

I would do almost anything if I thought it would make Spence "all
better", or even if I thought it would make him feel better
temporarily. I know you've said that your combo shots have done that.
I know that Simon had some wonderful days with you, but I don't know if
I am willing to put Spence through what it might take to extend his
life, if that extension would only be for weeks or even months. And
then there's the money factor... I just don't know...

I thought about oxygen helping him to breathe and be more comfortable.
But the trade off of being at the vet would probably not be worth it. I
wish I had the homemade set up here, or even a tank with a mask to see
if it helped. Thank you for your good thoughts.

up. He's lost a great deal of weight and his breathing is shallow
and fast. He cries now when I pick him up and he's not getting
around very well. His third eyelid is back up. I can't tell if he's
in pain, but he's obviously in distress. It doesn't look good. He
finished with his first 5 shots of feline interferon the night before
last. I had taken him off Clav after 7 days, (now I'm wondering if
that was a good idea), and he's going on, I think his 6th day of
Dox). I'm afraid it may be a tumor, or some sort of cancer. He's
reminding me of Simon when he was dying of kidney failure, but there
was no indication of that when we had blood work done Friday before
last. I called my vet's office, but of course it's a holiday and my
vets aren't there. I could bring him in as an emergency, but I don't
have a lot of faith in the vet on call, (nice guy, just not sure he'd
be able to help). Actually, I don't have a lot of faith that anyone
would be able to help him right now. He might be more comfortable
with oxygen, or with a pain reliever. I don't know if it's worth the
stress of bringing him into the vet.

I just can't believe he's gone downhill so quickly. I've only had
him for six months and he was in such bad shape when he got here. I
did suspect fiv, but not felv. I figured if he had felv, he wouldn't
have pulled through as well as he did after arriving. He just
blossomed here! He turned into the best hugger and was so happy to
have found someplace to call home and feel safe, and best of all he
was thrilled to find a source of never ending food! I used to have
to keep giving him a spoon of food at a time when I was getting
everyone's dinner ready, or he'd go and eat everyone else's food as I
put it down. I'm just in such shock. It wasn't more than 2 weeks
ago that he was scaling counters at a single bound. He was such and
incredible athlete, I've never seen anyone move as fast or leap as
high as Spence.

Thanks for letting me ramble. You guys know how this goes... Please
send him healing, calming thoughts and prayers. I never stop hoping
for recovery, but he doesn't look good. Thanks for always being there,

Nina

Dear Nina
We all do the best we can for our little souls, in whatever
circumstances we find ourselves. For what it's worth I decided after I
lost Flavia that I would never put another positive through a
transfusion. It gave her 10 days, that was it. It put her through
tremendous stress. And it cost money that I didn't have at that time.
But I guess I had to do it to learn from it.
I know that whatever decision you make for your beloved Spencer, it will
be the right one, Nina. big hugs, Kerry

Hi Nina,I understand where you are coming from.  When we got the news that the cancer had metastasized in Buddy, we decided to bring him home from the vet so we could spend some time together.  I wasn't ready to say goodbye.  The vet said he did not seem to be in pain yet.  I gave him IV fluids and kept him comfortable until the point when it seemed time.  For me, that time was when he stopped eating altogether and was sleeping most of the time.  The look in his eyes really clinched it. I would not have chosen to force feed him or keep him going through chemo for varied reasons, the main one that he was terminal.  There really was no hope.  It wasn't a tumor which could be removed and treated with chemo.  Even then, I'm not sure that I would have wanted him to go through chemo.  I've never faced that decision.  I too, would have to consider the cost of treatments, versus our income.  That is the
reality of it, unfortunately. At any rate, I am so sorry about Spence.  I hope for a miracle, if not, then that his passing is peaceful.GinaNina <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: No sweetie, I was talking about my feral boy, Simon. Hi, everyone, I need to ask for
your prayers for my very first baby, Ayumi…I brought her to US from
Japan with me as a feral kitty 14
years ago, and she is my very baby.  The vet found some enlargement in
her heart a couple of months ago and she has been taking support medicine
for her heart to prevent her from heart failure.. I have been taking her to
my vet every couple of weeks to do a check up and I took her this morning
again to run a total body function.. and it turned out that her PCV is down
to 20, which is very very low.. her PCV was 34 in mid July.. and I am
freaking out.. my vet really thinks it’s an error.. I would not normally
freak out as most of her blood work is pretty normal.. except that Peter and
Naomi whom I lost recently has shown anemic in their blood work as well.. I
am brining her back tomorrow to run her PCV again.. and I am so praying that
that was an error at a lab, which my vet thinks that it can be the most
inaccurate measure as it varies significantly sometimes depending on what
portion of the blood they took from the sample if they did not have enough
sample.. please please pray that her PCV is not what it came out from
IDEXX.. she has lost lots of weight for the past few months.. but she acts
okay.. we take a walk together.. and she eats her favorite food…I just love
her sooo very much.. I would appreciate your good thought and energy
for my baby…

Thank you in advance
J

RE: need prayers for my Bella's babies

2006-06-06 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto

Hi, everyone, I would like to ask for
prayers and healing energy for my Bella’s babies.. there are a little
over 9 weeks old now, and I noticed that they are pretty skinny.. I can feel
spin and ribs on most of them.. and especially two babies, Waku and Waka are
very very skinny and I am very worried about them… they all still nurse
with Bella,, and they do eat weaned food.. but not enough.. and I just don’t
know what’s wrong.. I just know that they are way to skinny.. do you have
any idea what’s going on?   I started to syringe feed them
recently, too. I haven’t done stool testing or anything like that yet and
I am thinking of brining them to a vet this week… Waka is also not too
active.. though she does not act ill so much or anything.. please pray for them
that they are going to be okay …

First, supplement their diet with Just
Borngood for the immune system...then check for
worms.

Take care.  As always, my prayers are with you
and your little ones.
