[Finale] The Bug
Dear folks, I wanted you to know that I was bitten by the bug we are all afraid of. I was making a complicated score pasting many pieces from a collection of pre-2006 files. When I was about to finish, complete sections of the music started to disappear... Only my obsession of renaming files saved me from the disaster since I could rescue the disappeared section from a previous file. Now you know, the Bug is still there, alive and waiting to ruin your careful work. Saludos, Javier. P.S. Still 25º C and no rain at all. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

What I think happened was that they asked around among music types, one of whom must have come across me by googling around. I think it's wonderful that you'd get such large exposure! Here's hoping you get some additional performances from people who listen to the program and try to find out who wrote the music for the filler and intro. Actually, they're going to air a full-scale interview with me, and play the whole piece, I think in the first program of the five. At my request, too, when they're done with the CD they're going to send it over to whichever branch of the BBC (BBC 3?) broadcasts classical music--with luck, they'll take an interest too. --Andrew ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

[Finale] '06 mac - notes misplaced in screen views
I may have just missed the conversation concerning this, but has anyone else noticed that the smaller the percentage screen view being used in '06 (mac) the more frequently notes appear to be on incorrect adjacent lines or spaces? I didn't notice it right away, but some notes are even affected at 100%. I routinely work somewhere between 50% and 70% in scroll view. This hasn't been a problem in '05 and previously for quite a few versions. This is not good. Is there some setting I'm missing or an adjustment I can make? Has anyone talked to MM about this? Hi Chuck, Owain's most brilliant answer is they way to go in my opinion as far as changing the note heads to Chord Sym!~ (that's a new one for me! Thanks Owain!) If you still want to fix your stem connection on the Maestro font: Go back to Stem Connections Click on Create Click on Set Font to select the font you want to fix the connection on (in this case Maestro) Click on Select to select the problematic notehead Drag the stem connections to the position you want them to be Click O.K. These days? If it ain't attached to GPO, we're lucky it's still in the program. At least that's what it seems. Having Text Search and Replace in the Edit menu makes perfect sense. The question isn't why it's in that menu, but rather why did it have to wait until plug-in technology came along, and even then why was it in the Plug-in menu at all, when it's clearly an Edit menu function (at least in practically every other Windows program I've ever used.) I have a feeling that since FinaleScript has been very underwhelmingly received (at least it hasn't drawn much attention except from a couple of devoted users) Makemusic gave it no thought other than to make sure that it should work in 2006 and simply copied the 2005 scripts over. -- David H. I know you're being somewhat rhetorical here, but of course TSAR was in the Plugins menu because it was developed as a plugin, not as an integral part of Finale. (I don't know whether it was developed by Robert Piechaud, author of FinaleScript, or whether it was based on the SR plugin that Jari Williamson wrote.) I'll grant you that someone coming to Finale 2006 with no prior experience is more likely to look for such a thing under Edit -- unless they read the promotional material which calls it a plugin, or read the note I mentioned which *says* it's under Plugins. I have a feeling that since FinaleScript has been very underwhelmingly received (at least it hasn't drawn much attention except from a couple of devoted users) My impression is that it's useful, but far less useful than it might be. I know that some people have some scripts they use frequently for certain tasks; personally, every time I come up with something that would be really useful in a batch script, I find that FinaleScript can't do it. Makemusic gave it no thought other than to make sure that it should work in 2006 and simply copied the 2005 scripts over. I don't have 2005, but in 2004 this particular script actually has different text -- it *doesn't* specify that TSAR is under Plugins. So it was changed by Robert at some point.
