Re: [Finale] More bugs
Oh, thanks Christopher. I didn't remember this option (Automatic update of multimeasure numbers). Maybe it was off by default before. The issue with rehearsal letters/numbers is this one: I have a multi movement work. Each movement starts with rehearsal number 1, so I create a different sequenced expression for each movement (of course, they look the same, but the sequences have to be different). When I am, for instance, workin in the second movement with a new sequenced expression, everything looks fine, but after saving, closing and reopening the file, the rehearsal number expression of the second movement is gone, the numbers are there still in place, but they follow the former sequence, from the first movement. I thought it was realted to the fact that I first just duplicated the expression, so I created a new one. I worked in one case, but not in others, so I cannot tell exactly what the situation is, except that it is a very weird and annoying behaviour, as I have to reassign all the numbers of the actual movement I am working every time I reopen the file. Oh, this is simply amazing... I have followed every suggestion here. I have changed the page sizes in every doc style and default file, I have edited the pagesizes.txt file, but I don't get but Letter size by default and it does not change whatever doc style I select. I went even further: renamed Letter to Carta (Spanish name) and move it to the bottom of the list in pagesizes.txt. Now, when I open the Setup Wizzard it reads Carta by default, eventhough it's the last name on the list. I am suspecting that the default size (8,5 x 11 in) is hardcoded in the programme itself, and this is overriding the (former) function of the pagesizes.txt file. [Finale] {Spam} Measure numbers
I think this is a sort of a bug (as I don't think it is the intended behaviour). When in Program Options/View, Display defined measure numbers is selected, and at the same time, some measures in the score are forced not to be included in the numbering, some processes linked to measures (like changing clefs, measure widths, breaking multimeasure rests and page breaks definitions) do work in the wrong place. It seems that someone forgot to consider those avoided measures in the maths for calculating the processes. Nevertheless, when Display actual measure numbers is selected in the Program options, no such weird behaviours are noticed. Fortunately, it seems that the measure numbers regions themselves are not affected. But this is very annoying. And another annoying bug is that even if I define a new rehearsal mark identical to one I am actually using in a score (you don't expect to have different styles in different movements in the same work, don't you?), the last one disappears after I close the file and the numbers continue the former rehearsal expression definition. I have also moved the A4-page size definition in pagesizes.txt to the top of the list, but everytime I open the Setup Wizzard it insist in showing Letter as the default sizes for score and parts, even though it is the second in the list. Thanks, Robert, no need to reply, I found your earlier post: I sent a similar reply a while back, but I never saw it come thru. For music without a key sig, use Chromatic Transposition. For must with a key sig. use standard Transposition as follows: 1. Set the horn staves to Independent Key Signature. 2. Set the horn staves to F Transposition. 3. Set the key signature of the Horn staves to F Major throughout, irrespective of the true key(s) of the piece. That will do it. Thanks, Jari. You were absolutely right, that was the problem. But I still don't know what would be the best way to write "sounding" natural harmonics, i. e., those where just the diamond shape note is shown (assuing or stating the corresponding open string). I used to do it in the second layer, applied then TGTools to make the shape and create the sounding note, copy then for Layer 1 and zeroing its midi volume, and finlly hiding Layer 2. Well, that also works in FinWin2k11, but I think it's a bit too much effort. If you know an easier approach, let us all know, please. But thanks again, Jari. [Finale] String harmonics playback in 2k11b
Hello everyone. This is slightly off the former topic on string harmonics. I am facing problems with string harmonics playback in FinWin 2011b. I used to create harmonics (artificial) with TGTools and they used to playback according to what was expected. I skipped Finale 2009 and 2010, and now in 2011 I have found that they are now playing back as they should (they sound as chords). I have checked HP preferences and I'm sure the String harmonics toggle is on (in Custom HP), but no change at all. I have also tried with GPO and the built in midi bank. Is there anyting missing somewhere? Or is it a bug in this version? On the other hand, (and unfortunately I cannot test it now), what would be the best approach for writing natural harmonics that playback? (I mean, not writing the resulting note with a "o" over, but writing the diamond shaped note alone with the indication of the string when necessary) Thanks for your replies, Rafael Leonardo Junchaya :rjunch...@yahoo.com http://www.myspace.com/rjunchaya +358 452791949 ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] bariolage beaming
There is another way, but tedious (tho it did not take me much time), of getting bariolage beaming: using several Special tools, that might be useful in certain situations (don't know which, indeed): - First, input the notes as there were no bariolage involved (just the 16th notes) - Apply Couble/Split Stem Tool to change stem direction of desired notes. - Hide undesired stems (with Beam Stem Adjust Tool or with a blank stem with the Custom Stem Tool) - Reduce long bems with Beam Extension Tool as necessary. Yes, it's too much work, but you get what you want. I think this can be copied with Mass Edit or Robert Patterson's Mass Copy. [Finale] Insert measures bug (was Confirm 2 bugs some time ago)
FinWin 2k7b This has been commented before, but now I faced this bug. In a file (created in Fin2k, edited thru every version until 2k7b) of a piece for orchestra, about 250 measures, I decided to insert some music at the beggining (some 25 measures). I worked this measures in a different file (I balnaked my original file and saved it with another name, just to retain everything) and when I tried to insert the new measures in my original file, Finale just crashed (in fact, it just closed without notice) once, twice, everytime. I tested saving clip files but nothing worked, the same chrashing every time. Then I remembered that I was playing with the piccolo part (I mean, I created this linked part only to try some formatting) and thought this could be the annoying thing. I deleted it and voilà, I could insert the music without problems. I guess there's still some (should I say a lot of?) work to do with linked parts. For sure, they could be useful in some circomstances, but might become a pain in the butt in another. So, if some of you got the same trouble, maybe this info coulb be useful. Rafael L. [Finale] Group names
I'm working on a score where the piano player changes to celesta in the middle of the piece, and the instrument name I'm using is Piano, as it is the first one used. There won't be problems with the part, as the group name is not showing there, but in the score I need to change the group name to "Celesta" and there is no way to apply a Staff style to a group. In Finale 2007, after applying system optimization, I can create new groups (and their group names) where I need them, but in Finale 2006 (and I need to send this file in that format) I don't see an easy way to accomplish this (unless it implies working with two grand staves, one for the piano and the other for the celesta, which will be hidden accordingly at optimization time) Is there any other way to get this? [Finale] FinWin 2006 Measure numbering bugs?
I'm experiencing this annoying behaviours in Finale 2006 (Windows XP P4 2GHz): By default, new files include one defined region (from m. 1 to 999). I've selected to display defined measure numbers at Program Options -> View, and in past versions it always worked fine, displaying a combination of two numbers (A:B) showing region and number, or a single number with a # sign, when there was no region definition for that measure. In WinFin2006, instead, when I define a second region (or more), then every measure number displays with the # in front. I can navigate into a desired measure typing in A:B combination, but the display is still the same (#A way) Besides, it's been a great idea for sure to have the chance not to include some measures in the numbering system in a region (Measure Attributes -> Include in Measure Numbering check box), but, why can't this be set for a whole selected region? If you have several cadenza (or similar) measure you want to hide from numbering (that's my case), you have to select each, right-click, select Edit Measure Attributes, and click the appropriate check box, for every single measure I hope someone could replicate these behaviours and confirm these are new bugs.
