Having a package such as Rosegarden in Fink would for the first time bring fully functional open source Music software to Mac users, which given the prominence of Macs in music production environments could only be a good thing. The possibility of this would greatly increase, the more of kdemultimedia-dev that could be ported. While noatun and similar end user applications are probably not that significant, having libraries like kmidi would be a huge advantage in porting KDE based audio applications. Audacity makes use of this, but it is the only application listed on their web site with which I was familiar. From what I can tell, all of the code that uses aRts in KDE (other than the basic play PCM audio functionality they could get from esound) is going through major bit-rot. aRts itself has sparked a major war over it's inclusion after their adding a dependency on glib2. Re: [Fink-users] Trying to set up .tcshrc
Do you have the setup that is mentioned in /usr/share/tcsh/examples/README ? If so you'll want to put source /sw/bin/init.csh as a line in ~/Library/init/tcsh/path, instead. Or, better yet, put source /sw/bin/init.csh into ~/.cshrc, and then put source ~/.cshrc in ~/Library/init/tcsh/path The problem is that your .login calls /usr/share/tcsh/examples/login, which explicitly resets the PATH after you've called .tcshrc . Note that you don't want just to set the PATH to include /sw/bin, because you'll need more in your PATH, and need to set other environment variables (e.g. MANPATH). Re: [Fink-users] KDevelop update fails
General note to users: it's better to put the name of the package that is actually failing as the subject, rather than the package you are trying to build ultimately. Now, for your problem, I'd suggest doing another selfupdate-cvs, because there were earlier upgrade problems with kdelibs3 that have been solved. Re: [Fink-users] Problem with fink update-all - package lcms
Sounds like the server is down... But fortunately for you, lcms was featured in the 0.5.1 stable distribution, and for that reason its sourcefile can also be found at http://us.dl.sf.net/fink/direct_download/source Once you've grabbed the appropriate file from that directory, you store it in /sw/src and proceed from there. -- Dave (P.S. [Fink-users] simply Sawfish?
Hello, I am considering using Sawfish as my window manager with Apple X11. I was impressed with its mix of features when using it with GNOME on Linux. But I'm not sure I want the full GNOME features on my iBook. It seems Sawfish by itself may be sufficient. Especially since I have the Aqua and X11 windows intermixed on the desktop. So I installed Sawfish via Fink, and it seems to run mostly fine. However, if I minimize a window, it disappears. Unlike with twm or lesstif, where I'd get a little icon-like thingy I could subsequently click on to open it back up. Is this because of a bug? Or do I really need some additional software, like GNOME, for handling the minimized Sawfish window? -Kurt Lloyd, [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ValueWeb: Dedicated Hosting for just $79/mo with 500 GB of bandwidth! Re: [Fink-users] simply Sawfish?
On Mon, Mar 31, 2003 at 08:49:32PM -0500, Kurt P. Lloyd wrote: Hello, I am considering using Sawfish as my window manager with Apple X11. You do. When I used Sawfish by itself on OS X, I used a very minimal panel-like program called 'fspanel' which you may find useful. (Now I just use Apple's quartz-wm instead). -- =Nicholas Riley [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://www.uiuc.edu/ph/www/njriley Pablo Research Group, Department of Computer Science and Medical Scholars Program, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ValueWeb: Dedicated Hosting for just $79/mo with 500 GB of bandwidth! [Fink-users] successful build of arts-1.1.1-1, qt3-3.1.2-1, and kdelibs3-ssl-3.1.1-2
Great! KDE-related stuff in the subject have built successfully after a few minor problems with dependency. I had been updating, step by step, qt3, arts, and kdelibs3 in this order. To complete this update, I'm building kdebase3-ssl-3.1.1-2 with its shlibs and dev packages now. I'll let you know if this build ends successfully. Thank you, Benjamin! Re: [Fink-users] Rosegarden a QT/KDE3 based audio/midi sequencer.
Daniel Wyeth wrote: If it is of help to anyone, the specific libraries needed for Rosegarden, compiled with arts and without alsa, jack and ladspa, are listed below. It may be possible to reduce the list further, but at the very least I suspect that libartsmidi, libartsbuilder, libartsgui, libartsmodules, libartsmidi_idl and libartsgui_idl would be needed. Another possibility is to get in contact with Stephane Letz ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and see if he's made any progress on a Jack MacOSX driver. He posted to the CoreAudio list last month about working on such a thing. It would likely end up being considerably less latent than aRts. Having a native Jack driver would I think be more useful in the long run... --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ValueWeb: Dedicated Hosting for just $79/mo with 500 GB of bandwidth! Re: [Fink-users] good windowmanager for rootless mode ?
Are there other fink-available windowmanagers that don't have these limitations ? I am in particular looking for something lightweight for the rootless mode. For fullscreen, I do have KDE installed :) Hi Marc, I posted some screenshots here: http://homepage.mac.com/sao1/fink/install.html#top1 All installed with Fink.
