Could you

please pass the word around so that all fjord people are invited to send us
pictures of their stallions. They need to be at least 300 DPI. We need the

I think Eric's new Fjord Horse Bulletin Board/Forum is GREAT. He's done a
nice job putting this in place. It's a great way to communicate. Take a
look at it... there are more and more people joining in. Other than being
able to post pictures, another great benefit is your inbox isn't always
cluttered with emails you have to spend time deleting or reading... the new
forum is just another tool to communicate, in a different manner, that's
all.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the fjord horse email list. I don't
think anybody is saying that.

Hello Yasmine

Last year I trained with a lady that was doing compative trail and I rode
fjords. We out performed all of the horse in the group. We camped out and
average 20-25 miles a day and doing over 100 miles in 4 day weekend. The
other horses could not keep up with the fjords fast trot they had to canter
and
by the end of the day they cooled out wonderfully and were ready to go the
next morning!! They not only surprised me, but a large group of die hard
riders! The fjords that I ride are the more sporty type not the big heavy
draft.

Good luck

I know a woman who uses an Anvil's Morgen (Morgan) son to do endurance. And
jump 4 feet. I might be able to put you in contact with her.

Claylee's Gunthar competed successfully against Arabs in NATRC in British
Columbia (cooler climate, which helps the heavier horses). His PR's were
excellent. I got a few of his clippings when I bought him.

I have not done endurance riding but I have done Performance Driving,
which is basically the carting version of endurance. It is similar to
endurance,
with the vet checks and PR tracking and recovery times factored in along
with time and distance. The trails are hilly and can be quite challenging. One
year we did the 9.5 mile segment in just under 1 hour and 15 minutes (with
over 90 degree temps), and our recovery was well under the allowable time. The
Vet remarked that he never realized that Fjords could be that fit. The next
year the same Vet was there and remarked to his assistant This is the horse I
was telling you about - the one that hardly broke a sweat last year.

I was doing about 3 - 5 miles a day, at least 5 days a week, at the walk and
trot to get her in shape for this competition.

I remember an associate of mine who rides endurance saying that there is a
Fjord that is in the circuit and doing very well. I would imagine isn't due

Hi All:

First, so sorry about the double send with no reply. Twitchy finger...
Eric, your Fjord forum format is very well done and thought out.

I do understand how some people would be interested in near real time dialog
however, I couldn't help but wonder...how many folks have time to sit for an
hour or two, IMing (or something similar) on the computer? I'm lucky to
grab 10-15 minutes or so at a time to answer an email, much let park and
chat, and I only have 3 horses.

I have a Belgian friend who IM's me (and me her) frequently but we don't
always have time to visit and our contact is gradually dropping. It is
disappointing, but real.

Anyway, just wanted to compliment you on the forum site. It is well done,
and if I have time, I hope to drop in on occasion.

Yasmine, Yes, we've done limited distance, both ridden and driven
competitive trail up to 35 miles. For years, the Green Mountain Horse
Association 15 miler had a large contingent of Fjords. My mare Zoe (
Zoe the Wonder Fjord, who does anything with verve and enthusiasm) was
grand champion in one of the rides. Dave McWethy drove the stallion
Modellen in several distance rides including the Vermont 100 and did
very well with him.
Fjords can do it. Do your homework and condition well. The heavier
muscled horses are harder to cool and don't do as well in the hotter,
muggy weather. I don't feel Fjords are competitive at endurance at the
higher distances and faster speeds.

Good luck!

Hi Linda,

Yes, your horse can have too much Selenium. Check with your vet. You do have
to be aware of the additive amounts of Selenium your horse may be getting
from different sources.
