I always want one for myself and they've been really successful gifts in the past...especially (strangely enough) with non-horse people. I think it's because they're so unique and give folks a window into a world they didn't even know existed. So, although I'm definitely in favor of retirement and the put-the-feet-up-and-relax-a-bit aspects of it, I hope our calendar will be with us for quite a while yet. Fair Acres Knute in this month's Fjord calendar

What a wonderful day that was at the beach, and what wonderful memories I have of him. After 10 years together, I lost Knute late last year to digestive problems. Time to submit photos for the 2008 Fjord Calendar
This message is from: "Carol Tacey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Fjord Friends, Photos are now being accepted for consideration in the 2008 Norwegian Fjord Calendar. The photos are collected from Fjord farms all over US, Canada, and Europe. You could have your Fjord and Farm featured in the 2008 calendar. Photo releases go out in January 2007 and final photos selected in March 2007. How to send photos: Send your photo to address below, I will scan it am mail it back to you. Send jpeg file to my e mail with contact information. Send jpeg CD to the address below with contact information. Photos must be 600 DPI and at least 5 x 7 inches (larger is better). Large jpeg files need to be mailed on a CD because large files do not travel well via e mail. I am always happy to see so many wonderful Fjord photos, however only 13 can be used. If your photo is not used this year, it will be held for consideration in future years. I get many great photos that I cannot use because the resolution is poor. In order to enlarge a photo to 11 x 14 inches it must have high resolution, that is 600 DPI or larger. If you download you photos from your digital camera do not reduce the size, it is best to send the larger version of your image on a CD and I will make the size adjustment. I thank all my Fjord Friends for making the annual calendar a success. Camp Marshall in Spencer MA a 4-H camp. The camp had every thing you could ask for, indoor and 4 outdoor rings, green grassy fields for cones and dirt roads for cross country, huge dinning hall, camping and cottages on a lake, lots of stalls, we had a wonderful weekend there. Always nice to see so many super looking Fjords. I always wanted to buy a all Fjord calendar but could never find one, so this year I produced one myself. The website is in German, but it's not too difficult to negotiate. Sine I have a German bank account, it would be easy for me to order the calendars, but I would want to have them sent to someone else for mailing out to those who ordered them since I live in Mexico and it would be more expensive to re-mail them from here, not to mention to pay to have them shipped from the border either by the mail forwarding service I use. Peg, congratulations on HM Erlend. He's obviously an outstanding fellow. Yes, you heard it here first, folks. I am moving yet again back to the farm where I lived before I went to Germany. The neighbor in the two small middle houses died and they are available and are much nicer than where I am living now and considerably less expensive. Out here by Lake Chapala where so many foreigners live the rents are sky-high and everything else is higher too. I will be moving within the next 2-3 weeks. Now if I could only find those two old Morgans I had. I gave a free lease to a woman who later found she couldn't keep them and she sold them illegally and now her daughter is stonewalling on telling me where they are. It features Danish and German Fjords, is by the same photographer that shot the photos for the 2003 calendar, has a wire-spiral binding and costs 19.90 plus postage. I bought a great Fjord sweatshirt last year at the National Fjord Show from her, in addition to the calendar. The Eurocheval Pferde Messe is 21-25 July 04 in Offenburg, which is a pretty, very clean small town on the edge of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) across the Rhein from Strasbourg. I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it and hope I can go back next year. They had some great Fjords, including Rei Romanow, who is the current German National Champion (it's that fine Danish breeding again, he's a son of Rei Halsnaes, as is Jon Halsnaes, another former national champion). The guest country next year is Switzerland (it was the US last year). I found a great hotel in the center of town, one of the oldest hotels in the country continously operated as a hotel, 400 years, furnished in 19th century antiques and the TV had CNNI too. I have an authentic, antique US Army-issue McClellan cavalry saddle made in 1909 at the Rock Island Arsenal. The best thing I have found for mold and mildew is good, old-fashioned tallow (Talg in German, taere (sp?) in Norwegian). Get hard fat from around the kidneys, trim everything off but the fat itself, cut into small chunks, and melt slowly over a low fire. When it is fully melted, strain it and let it cool enough to handle, then rub it in by hand. This is, of course, applied after you clean the saddle - I use Murphy's Oil Soap. Since the cold and flu season is upon us soon, you can make a similar version for red noses and chapped lips from fat from a roast beef or steak. The method is the same. This is an old Norwegian and German home remedy I learned from my mother and it is much more effective than any commercial product I have ever seen. The difference between the two types is that when the hard fat from the kidneys is cold, it is solid like lard kept in the refrigerator, whereas the other for chapped lips and red noses has the consistency of Vaseline. I do not have a digital camera but would love to submit actual photos to a central (neutral) person who would make up the calendar showing fjord verstility, power and beauty. Has anyone seen the calendars that Mishka Farms does? They have a big picture for each month and also include smaller pictures for each month so they actually multiply the number of wonderful photos in each calendar. Some commercial photo shops will put wall calendars together but it is not as professional looking but again that depends on the quality of the pictures chosen, cropping, etc. Pamela Garofalo
