[Flashcoders] calling all accessibility gurus

2005-10-07 Thread adam

Hi list,

I've had a search of the archives but can't seem to find answer to this
one. I'm just starting a project that requires accessibility from a
screen reader. I'm testing Jaws version 4.5 and 7, IE6 and flash player
7 on winXP pro.

I'm having trouble creating the most simple working example. I've setup
a movie with 2 frames and some textfields on each frame, and a movieclip
button to move between the frames. I've specified the tabindexes for
all items and setup the accessibility properties for everything as well.

When the movie loads, everything works as expected - Jaws reads through
the contents of the page. When I move to the next frame Jaws doesn't
start reading the content automatically. As the screen had been
refreshed I was led to believe that Jaws would start reading the screen
again from the top. I checked out what MSSA was seeing with microsofts
accessibility explorer and everything seems to be ok. Whilst I'm on the
second frame if I use the up and down cursor keys Jaws will read each of
my text fields but it seems to start with it's focus at the bottom of
the page at around the same point as the button on the previous frame.
Is this expected behavior?

any help or advice would be very gratefully received.

thanks,

adam

So what will the workflow be for incorporating graphics into these new
8.5 projects (I havn't used flex so I don't know how it currently
works)? Will we be publishing a v8 SWF for each graphic used then using
Flexbuilder 2 to loadMovie the files and contol layout?

Just to clarify. There is no update for Flash Authoring planned.

There will be an early alpha of the next full version of authoring that
includes ActionScript 3 support. This will be available in the spring.

Re: [Flashcoders] [F8] Going slightly mad - please could someone trythis?

2005-10-07 Thread nwebb
Indeed ;)
 1. We are extending TextField.StyleSheet and calling it's transform method
(see the line of code commented out in the class). This works fine in Flash
7 and is demonstrated in the Flash MX04 dictionary - ie I'm not using
anything undocumented here.
 In the example fla I put a call to super in the contrsuctor rather than
adding extra code to create an object and call super.transform(object). My
aim was to keep the example fla as simple as possible.

2. I thought comments were ignored by the compiler, so isn't it a little
worrying that a single-line comment can cause a compiler error?

Great features and it's good that the 'flash platform' is moving
forward.

Reading between the lines - we'll have to pay for the 8.5 IDE, or are
you taling about an alpha of the flash 9 IDE? - If it's 8.5 then great,
like I'm going to be able to convince my manager I need to upgrade
everyone in my team again. Adobe did the same with CS and CS2.

Looking forward to Flash 8.75 and Flash 8.9

What was the reasoning behind not holding off the release and putting
this in 8, or waiting and pushing it in 9?

Should people who haven't yet upgraded to 8 hold off for the 8.5
upgrade?

Will you still operate the same upgrade from any version policy?

I need to carefully plan my software budget and you guys aren't helping.

[Flashcoders] localToGlobal ?

2005-10-07 Thread Kurt Dommermuth

Hello,

How localToGlobal is to be used has confounded me from day 1. I never
"get" it and usually end up doing things in some assbackwards way to
accomplish what I want.

Hopefully someone can put me out of my misery once and for all.

at least in terms of localToGlobal.

I have a an MC called MAP . Within MAP I mark certain towns with nested
movie clips with unique names such as "springfield".

I want to pass a function located in _root the _x and _y values of
"springfield" and have the map move so "springfield" is in the center of
the stage.

I know this should be a simple task and yet I waste hours every time I'm
faced with this type of problem.

Hope I'm being clear.

thank you!

RE: [Flashcoders] localToGlobal ?

2005-10-07 Thread Giles Taylor
Say you have a movieClip called "A_mc" on the stage that you move to
x:20 y:20, then you have a movieClip in "A_mc" called "B_mc" that you
place at x:20 y:20.

When looking at the stage "A_mc" will be at x:20 y:20, but "B_mc" will
be at x:40 y:40.

However, if you ask what B_mc._x is then it will say 20 because it
relates it to it's parent movieClips registration point(x:0 y:0).

So to find out when "B_mc" actually is on the stage you use:
var myPoint:Object = {x:B_mc._x, y:B_mc._y}
B_mc.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

So, in your case you would say:
var myPoint:Object = {x:MAP.springfield._x, y:MAP.springfield._y}
MAP.springfield.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

Hope that help you "get" it.

Reading this thread I am curious to know how MM sees the up and coming
Microsoft Vista-platform.

My feeling is that MS is basically -- again -- hooking up in the Rich
Internet Applications area (as previously tried & done with their DHTML
implementation, DataBinding and ActiveX controls).

Though -- again -- Vista very likely only works (properly) on the MS
Platform, they do introduce some cool 3D-like options to build GUI's and the
performance seems to be OK.

[Flashcoders] Tree Component FlashMX in Director --> Application Freeezes. Need some feedback on this please! thx

Hello,

Has anybody encountered problems with Tree Component from Flash when

please read on.

Situation : I have a swf with a tree component. De Tree Component works

Now, on Windows98/2000/Me and WXP SP1, the application freezes when user
clicks on branch.

- In some cases, opening Task Manager, defreezes application. From the
moment you minimalize task manager, it freezes again.

- For Windows98/2000/Me I turned of DTS, and the problem vanished.

- For WXP, this solution didn't help. Yesterday I searched for about 3
hours and suddenly I found 'a' solution. I switched the colordepth to
16, and the application defreezed. So now I let Director switch the
colordepth to 16 when starting the application.

But all this is very annoying. Who says that on another system with a
different hardware configuration, previous solutions will help???

What is it with this tree component. I know the tree component consists
of a listbox component, so the problem probably lies with the listbox
component.

* On all computers, the latest drivers are installed, so this ain't the
problem.

* Starting in safe mode doesn't help, so I doubt that some process is
causing the problem.

* Playing the swf in stand alone player, works just fine, so the problem
really starts with DirectorMX

* I have the latest updates from Director.

* When clicking on a branch in tree component, no actions are taken. No
communication from Flash with DirectorMx, no reading files, ...

* The computers on which the problems occur are not brand new, and not
extremely old.

ps : Are there ways to contact Macromedia with this problem?

ps : What does the Flash Asset Xtra really do?

ps : Would a new Flash Asset Xtra solve the problem? Would a new
DirectorMX upgrade solve the problem.

ps : If I have more information, I let you guys now. For now, it would
be great if somebody new about this problem...

thx, Lieven Cardoen, PointX

[Flashcoders] [bug?] ColorTransform, Timeline

2005-10-07 Thread Tor.Kristensen
http://www.bespoke.org/demo/ColorTransformOddness.html
http://www.bespoke.org/demo/ColorTransformOddness.fla

As I was poking around in F8, I found some behaviour I would like some
explanations for.

On Stage, there is an MC named "test_mc"
I attachMovie() a copy named "test2_mc"
I assign the same ColorTransform object to both.
Both get their colors changed to 0xFF
The movie plays forward
On frame 10, I have the following command
gotoAndPlay(_currentframe-1);

When this frame is hit, the MC on Stage has its' color reset.
The clip created via attachMovie keeps the red color.

The clip in the Timeline has only 1 keyframe on frame 1, there's no new
keyframe re/setting the data for it.

If I replace the command on frame 10 with stop(); both clips keep the
red color.

If I replace the command on frame 10 with gotoAndPlay(9); the color
resets.
If I replace the command on frame 10 with prevFrame(); the color resets.

Why does this happen when there's no keyframe altering the data of
test_mc?

Thanks in advance

[Flashcoders] XML question

2005-10-07 Thread Sajid Saiyed
Hi,
I am trying to read an Atom XML into a Flash file.

If you look at the XML, its like this:

Friends at Macromedia
http://www.ssdesigninteractive.com/blog/archives/2005/10/friends_at_macr.html";

/>
2005-10-05T07:58:51Z
.

Now, when I use XML Connector and set Schema, it shows 'link' as a Array
item and inside it it shows:

@ href
@rel
@ type

I am using XML Connector bound to a DataSet.

I can read the value of 'link' by using this code:
myDS.currentItem.link;

Now Is there a way to read the values of @ href, @rel etc?

Thanks

That might be true, but ScrollPane worked fine for me before and now
it has at least 3 related bugs that are notorious and annoying. What
did I do to get them? I reexported an application as version 7 in
Flash 8!

These even include clear AS errors like moving a super() call

the method!

In any case these subtle changes impact enough exporting MX2004
applications that use ScrollPane in Flash 8 as version 7 that
serious  bugs are introduced.

Not being able to use the arrow keys or the scroll buttons to go
all the way to the bottom of the component is one.

No scrolling of the contents of the ScrollPane when a single
click under the scroll bar is executed is another.

Backing up the ScrollPane.as and copying the one from Flash MX
2004 Pro over is enough to fix these.

Those packages should be identical, if the product claims to be
backward compatible.

wow, that is of much help for bugtracking. but if i understood this
coorect, MM changes some subtle things, so this might erase some
bugs in v2 containers ? have you tested some ?

Make 2 buttons; map them to those functions.

Or, put those 2 functions in a CellRenderer, and put 2 buttons in the

It would be nice to use a list or datagrid and allow users to sort

I am trying to find the best way to allow users to sort the order of

Ideas?

RE: [Flashcoders] Flash player 8.5 and ActionScript 3.0

2005-10-07 Thread Larkin, Jeremy
Just to clarify, Vista is the new operating system, the stuff MS is
doing is the Avalon framework which is edited using the Sparkle
toolset/ide.

However, Avalon is fully implemented in .NET so it is *possible*, though
my guess is unlikely, to be cross-platform. Although, MS has actually
come up with quite a compelling tool. You basically get a flash-like
tool with timelines and graphics (plus 3D), but with the entire power of
the .NET platform. I have been a long-time Java fan, but with direction
of .NET, I have been seriously considering making the switch. (And of
course keeping Flash for the web stuff :) )

Reading this thread I am curious to know how MM sees the up and coming
Microsoft Vista-platform.

My feeling is that MS is basically -- again -- hooking up in the Rich
Internet Applications area (as previously tried & done with their DHTML
implementation, DataBinding and ActiveX controls).

Though -- again -- Vista very likely only works (properly) on the MS
Platform, they do introduce some cool 3D-like options to build GUI's and
the
performance seems to be OK.

Re: Fwd: RE: [Flashcoders] localToGlobal ?

2005-10-07 Thread Kurt Dommermuth

Hi Giles,

thank you for responding. this is exactly what i'm doing but my "MAP" just
shoots right off the stage.

selectCommunity = function(communityName)
{
var point:Object = {x:map[communityName]._x, y:map[communityName]._y};
map[communityName].localToGlobal(point);

map.tween("_y",point.y,.6,'easeOutSine');
map.tween("_x",point.x,.6,'easeOutSine');

trace("point.y = " + point.y + " point.x = " + point.x);
}

trace reveals point.y = 255.9 point.x = 768.9
then next time the function is called: point.y = 779.7 point.x = 1436.8

so ive got two issues. the map doesn't center on "springfield" and the x
and y value increase with every call. I though var made it private. this
is not the case with objects? totally missing the boat.

nwebb, thank you for the link. I haven't tried the function there, but I will.

When looking at the stage "A_mc" will be at x:20 y:20, but "B_mc" will
be at x:40 y:40.

However, if you ask what B_mc._x is then it will say 20 because it
relates it to it's parent movieClips registration point(x:0 y:0).

So to find out when "B_mc" actually is on the stage you use:
var myPoint:Object = {x:B_mc._x, y:B_mc._y}
B_mc.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

So, in your case you would say:
var myPoint:Object = {x:MAP.springfield._x, y:MAP.springfield._y}
MAP.springfield.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

Hope that help you "get" it.

Whilst this talk will be a summary/aggregation of all the publicly

Re: [Flashcoders] Problem with Key class in Flash 8

2005-10-07 Thread Alain Rousseau
It looks like the listener stops listening to the first pressed key and
monitors the onKeyUp only for the second one. So it might not be the Key
class that is concerned here ... maybe event handling ? I can't really
tell, would have to know more on how these work together.

The thing is, that if 2 keys are pressed at the same time we would
expect to see a trace output like this (for those who don't want to or
can't  try it themselves):

   CODE:

var myListener  = new Object();
myListener.onKeyDown = function() //change _myListener to myListener
{

   trace("down: " + Key.getCode());
};
myListener.onKeyUp = function()
{
   trace("up: " + Key.getCode());
};
Key.addListener(myListener);

   Expected Output for key pressed A (65) and C (67) where A is
   pressed first then C, then A is released then C:

   down: 65
   down: 67
   down: 67
   up: 65
   down: 67
   down: 67
   up: 67

   but instead we get this in Flash 8

   down: 65
   down: 67
   down: 67
   down: 67
   down: 67
   up: 67

   works as expected in Flash 7

That's all I can say for now in this case ...

Hi Kurt,
What you are doing, I think, is putting the x&y of map to where
springfield is. If you want to center springfield on the stage then I
think you need to:

var centerPointX = Stage.width/2;
var centerPointY = Stage.height/2;

map.tween("_y",map._y + (centerPointY - point.y),.6,'easeOutSine');
map.tween("_x",map._x + (centerPointX - point.x),.6,'easeOutSine');

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash player 8.5 and ActionScript 3.0

2005-10-07 Thread Isaac Rivera

Just to clarify, Vista is the new operating system, the stuff MS is
doing is the Avalon framework which is edited using the Sparkle
toolset/ide.

However, Avalon is fully implemented in .NET so it is *possible*,
though

my guess is unlikely, to be cross-platform.

I fail to see the relationship between the ".NET" part of the
statement and the possibility of "cross-platform" part.

Did I wake up in a different universe this morning? Has .NET been
ported to anything not Microsoft? Are there known efforts other than
a vague promise by MS?

In my opinion as Java programmer, J programmers being tempted by .NET
are missing the real point of Java. It would be like programming
flash apps that make use of those few features available only on IE
for PC.

But perhaps you meant, "cross-os" as in all the windoze flavors and
versions. If I was a windoze user who makes windoze apps only for
windoze desktops and servers, I would definitely be using C#
and .NET, but then again...

Isaac Rivera

Although, MS has actually
come up with quite a compelling tool. You basically get a flash-like
tool with timelines and graphics (plus 3D), but with the entire
power of
the .NET platform. I have been a long-time Java fan, but with
direction

of .NET, I have been seriously considering making the switch. (And of
course keeping Flash for the web stuff :) )

Reading this thread I am curious to know how MM sees the up and coming
Microsoft Vista-platform.

My feeling is that MS is basically -- again -- hooking up in the Rich
Internet Applications area (as previously tried & done with their
DHTML

implementation, DataBinding and ActiveX controls).

Though -- again -- Vista very likely only works (properly) on the MS
Platform, they do introduce some cool 3D-like options to build
GUI's and

the
performance seems to be OK.

Great features and it's good that the 'flash platform' is moving
forward.

Reading between the lines - we'll have to pay for the 8.5 IDE, or are
you taling about an alpha of the flash 9 IDE? - If it's 8.5 then

great,

like I'm going to be able to convince my manager I need to upgrade
everyone in my team again.

I need to carefully plan my software budget and you guys aren't

helping.

Re: [Flashcoders] localToGlobal ?

2005-10-07 Thread Judah Frangipane

Giles,

Thank you for this excellent explanation. I'd get confused by this too
from time to time. Especially because there were different ways to use
it. Now I have another good way to explain it.

If you are in HTML you already know what localToGlobal is. Just
different terms. Local to global is a way of saying relative to
absolute. I would have understood this earlier if the function was
renamed relativeToAbsolute or relativePositionToAbsolutePosition.

Maybe some new functions should be made that would make more sense to
people like me:

// returns point object with absolute (global) x and y of my_mc
var globalPosition:Object = my_mc.absolutePositionInStage()

// returns relative position of nested_child_mc to ancestor_mc
var relativePosition:Object =
nested_child_mc.relativePositionTo(nested_child_mc._parent._parent)
var relativePosition:Object =
nested_child_mc.relativePositionTo(_root.parent_of_nested_mc)

maybe you could give an explanation of global to local?

Giles Taylor wrote:

Say you have a movieClip called "A_mc" on the stage that you move to
x:20 y:20, then you have a movieClip in "A_mc" called "B_mc" that you
place at x:20 y:20.

When looking at the stage "A_mc" will be at x:20 y:20, but "B_mc" will
be at x:40 y:40.

However, if you ask what B_mc._x is then it will say 20 because it
relates it to it's parent movieClips registration point(x:0 y:0).

So to find out when "B_mc" actually is on the stage you use:
var myPoint:Object = {x:B_mc._x, y:B_mc._y}
B_mc.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

So, in your case you would say:
var myPoint:Object = {x:MAP.springfield._x, y:MAP.springfield._y}
MAP.springfield.localToGlobal(myPoint);
Trace("myPoint is now relative to the Stage: (" + myPoint.x + ":" +
myPoint.y + ")");

Hope that help you "get" it.

accomplish what I want.

Hopefully someone can put me out of my misery once and for all.

at least in terms of localToGlobal.

I have a an MC called MAP . Within MAP I mark certain towns with nested

I want to pass a function located in _root the _x and _y values of

I wish this would make sense to me. Either this is really obvious or I'm
baffled.

Flash 8 just came out
Flash Alpha (next version NOT allowed to be called Flash 9 for some
reason) is coming out in the spring of 2006 and will be available free
to the public or current Flash 8 users
Flash Alpha final (after alpha and beta) will be shipped in the first
half of next year (2006) julyish

Flash 8 users will have to buy Flash Alpha

Was Flash 8 really Flash "7.5" so it could be included in the new
Macromedia Studio? Does this have to do with the whole unsyncronized
thing or the Adobe merger/rebranding? I'm just trying to understand
this. Maybe translate into ActionScript 2.0. ;)

it of course has something to do with localToGlobal and the object
"point". I think I'm missing a fundamental characteristic of objects or
the nature of localToGlobal.

somehow localToGlobal should only be called once? the object point doesn't
go away each time the function is called even though it is preceded by var?

the function again...

 map.tween("_y",point.y,.6,'easeOutSine');
 map.tween("_x",point.x,.6,'easeOutSine');

 trace("point.y = " + point.y + " point.x = " + point.x); }

I need to establish the localToGlobal values outside of the function or can

 map.tween("_y",point.y,.6,'easeOutSine');
 map.tween("_x",point.x,.6,'easeOutSine');

 trace("point.y = " + point.y + " point.x = " + point.x); }

trace reveals point.y = 255.9 point.x = 768.9 then next time the
function is called: point.y = 779.7 point.x = 1436.8

so ive got two issues. the map doesn't center on "springfield" and the
x and y value increase with every call. I though var made it private.
this is not the case with objects? totally missing the boat.

toolset/ide.

It would be like programming flash apps that make use of those few
features available only on IE for PC--the whole point, unlike DTML
for instance, is cross-everything in a medium (the webb) that is
inherently diverse. In one technology, and a ubiquitous one, you can
deliver all media and content, all wrapped up in a small and powerful
little package, regardless of the diversity out there.

There's no upgrade to Flash 8.

Flash 9 will support AS3.0 (alpha released in Spring 2006)

Great features and it's good that the 'flash platform' is moving
forward.

Reading between the lines - we'll have to pay for the 8.5 IDE, or are
you taling about an alpha of the flash 9 IDE? - If it's 8.5 then

great,

like I'm going to be able to convince my manager I need to upgrade
everyone in my team again.

I need to carefully plan my software budget and you guys aren't

helping.

Cheers

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash player 8.5 and ActionScript 3.0

2005-10-07 Thread JesterXL
First off, there is no library. It's a lot like HTML in that you embed
graphics. The difference, though, is that just like Flash, your graphics are
embedded in the SWF when you compile (unless you wish to do loadMovie to
load them at runtime).

So, in Flash, you'd lay out your graphics, and either put them in a movie
clip or give them linkageID's and attach them at runtime.

In Flex, you bind a variable to an image, and use that variable the same
exact way you use a linkageID, or just load dynamically the same way you do
in Flash.

There are a plethora of ways to do this in Flex as well. You can embed,
load dynamically, put your assets in a SWF, and embed a specific Symbol, or
you can just load the SWF dynamically at runtime. You can even embed SVG
(not sure why'd you want to ,hehe).

So what will the workflow be for incorporating graphics into these new
8.5 projects (I havn't used flex so I don't know how it currently
works)? Will we be publishing a v8 SWF for each graphic used then using
Flexbuilder 2 to loadMovie the files and contol layout?

 Depending on the nature of the work- if it doesn't rely on user input or

then encode to flv or swf.

adobe doesnt exactly have a track record of the low-card software diet
releases.. its usually bloated to the point where it hardly runs on
your two-year-old machine. like why cant there just be a raw mode in
these applications? like, how come illustrator 6 just get better and
better for every new release? ;)

[Flashcoders] attachMovie woes

2005-10-07 Thread Carlos Saenz

Hello,

I am using attachMovie to attach small red dots to other MCs

The problem is i am enlarging the MCs using actionscript.

Before attachMovie does its thing the width and height of the MCs
are correct. But after attachMovie runs, the width and height of the
MC that got the new MCs attached TO it... gets all screwed up.

For instance original height = 50
run function that does the attachMovie
now new height = 355 (or some random big number)

This screws EVERYTHING up. I have no idea how to scale the movie
properly anymore. This even happens if the attached MCs are tiny red
dots that do NOT visually increase the width or height of the MC at
ALL. How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks!!

It sounds like you are attaching the dots at a position outside of the
area of the target movieclip. Thus the result is the target movieclip
is now bigger.

It might be better if you attached the dots to the parent of the
target clip. That way you are not changing the target clip.

Does that make sense?

[Flashcoders] Deploying Flex 2 apps and other thoughts

2005-10-07 Thread Christophe Herreman

Hi guys,

I was wondering about this. Maybe this has been posted before, so sorry
in advance if I missed it.

How will deployment work, assuming that you compile your mxml and then
upload the swf's? Is all you need to do, is making a html file to embed
the swf like you do with Flash deployment right now?

What about the back button functionality currently in Flex? If I'm not
mistaken, this works with an Iframe. And going back to point 1, I assume
this will all be created for you, much like the publish functionality now.

What about using custom Flex components like the StatePicker example in
the samples explorer. Can we still use even if that
component is an swf instead of an mxml?

Just some random thoughts, and I probably answered them myself but
hey...I'm so excited  !

regards,
Christophe

I was thinking about this myself. I *may* have figured it out. Follow me
here

1) Release Flash 8 Player with some new features and an enhanced Updater
feature. It should be noted that this new Updater will pull down only the
new parts of the Player as upgrades are made. This is the key here.

2) Release Player 8.5 with _two_ ActionScript Virtual Machines. This makes
for a larger total download but not so big if only updating from 8.0 player.

3) Release Player 9.0 with even more features but having removed the older
ActionScript Virtual Machine so that it seems that the download size is the
same as 8.5

So, rather than loading everything into one player version they are
stratigically breaking it apart into smaller parts and slowly increasing the
total player size.

Tell me if I am off on this Mike.

Re: [Flashcoders] XML question

2005-10-07 Thread Wade Arnold

Sajid,

	I ran into the same issue. There are two main arrays in an ATOM 1.0
feed the LINK and the ENTRY array. For content I have always used the
ENTRY array. I have the same issue with the LINK node inside of ENTRY.
It says it's an array but I can not connect to any of the values. I
will keep seeing what I can do. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Hi,
I am trying to read an Atom XML into a Flash file.

If you look at the XML, its like this:

Friends at Macromedia

friends_at_macr.html"

/>
2005-10-05T07:58:51Z
.

Now, when I use XML Connector and set Schema, it shows 'link' as a
Array

item and inside it it shows:

@ href
@rel
@ type

I am using XML Connector bound to a DataSet.

I can read the value of 'link' by using this code:
myDS.currentItem.link;

Now Is there a way to read the values of @ href, @rel etc?

Thanks

Re: [Flashcoders] FLV loading problem in FireFox

Were you running both browsers at the same time by any chance?
Flash 7 only let's you play one instance of an FLV (locally).

Just a guess.

I ran into something weird today. My swf loads an FLV file OK in IE but not
in FireFox. When I made the file name of the FLV shorter it worked. Could
there be a character limit (of the path) when loading external FLV files?
And only in FireFox?

I tested this on Windows only, FLV and SWF are Flash 7.

Re: [Flashcoders] Deploying Flex 2 apps and other thoughts

2005-10-07 Thread JesterXL
Same as Flash; output is a SWF. Flex server is better because it writes all
that HTML crud, compliant with most browsers, and the HistoryManager is
built in.

Nope; I'd bet you need Flex server for that since mxmlc.exe outputs a SWF,
not HTML.

You can use tags for any component.

createChild(TextInput, "my_ti");

or:

Whatever you are more comfortable with.

You can also create components using AS or MXML;

class MyPanel extends mx.containers.Panel
{
}

Or:

// stuff

(saved as MyPanel.mxml)

Same thing.

SWF's, however, are not components, just like in Flash. You have to load
them in, and/or have them bound to classes.

I wish this would make sense to me. Either this is really obvious or I'm
baffled.

Flash 8 just came out
Flash Alpha (next version NOT allowed to be called Flash 9 for some reason) is coming out in the spring of 2006 and will be
available free to the public or current Flash 8 users

Flash Alpha final (after alpha and beta) will be shipped in the first half of
next year (2006) julyish
Flash 8 users will have to buy Flash Alpha

Was Flash 8 really Flash "7.5" so it could be included in the new Macromedia Studio? Does this have to do with the whole
unsyncronized thing or the Adobe merger/rebranding? I'm just trying to understand this. Maybe translate into ActionScript 2.0. ;)
