Can anyone help please? I used to have Tortoise SVN running but, to be

 David,

Your problem (and from what I can tell from everyone else that has
problems with SVN) is that you are using the wrong URL. You should be
 using:

 svn://206.216.146.154/svn/repos_sdr_windows/powerSDR

But please, only use this URL so that you download only the binaries
since you have no need for the source.

 svn://206.216.146.154/svn/repos_sdr_windows/powerSDR/trunk/bin/Release

Using SVN is very simple if you *follow* the directions available from
 the Flex web site.

BTW, SVN is not a programmer based system, it is a document management
 system.

Re: [Flexradio] FW: 1.6.3 SVN 671

2006-09-10 Thread David Ackrill
I've now got V1.6.3 running, thanks to a lot of help, and it seems to
have inherited a problem that I used to have with some earlier versions
which doesn't happen with V1.6.2.

The problem is that the audio briefly stops if I do something else on
the PC. For instance, when opening and closing emails. This doesn't
happen on V1.6.2 as I say. Although there is just a faint 'click' every
now and then. On V1.6.3 it is a definite pause.

PC is a 2GHz AMD running Windows 2000 pro and the soundcard is an MP3+.

Re: [Flexradio] FW: 1.6.3 SVN 668 - Includes some great enhancements

2006-09-10 Thread Jeff Anderson
Whoops - I mispoke...

My code mods actually round (when in voice mode) to the nearest 100 Hz
(rather than 1 KHz), *except* when fully zoomed out. In that case, because
the pixel-to-pixel delta represents steps in excess of 100 Hz, I round to
the nearest 500 Hz.

Per Dan's question - personally I find that, for voice, 100/500 Hz rounding
is fine for click tuning, and I made the decision not to tie this increment
to the mouse-wheel tuning increment for a number of reasons: 1) the
increment really should relate (relate loosely) to the pixel-to-pixel
frequency delta, which changes as one zooms the display in and out (per my
earlier description of my rounding change from 100 Hz to 500 Hz), and 2)
because I prefer the additional flexibility in tuning I get as a result of
keeping these two increments seperate (one increment size used when click
tuning, and another immediately available when scrolling with mouse-wheel).

Hi Gary,

This feature was one of the first things I implemented when I decided to do
my variant of the Flex console. In voice modes I round the point click
frequency (i.e. the cursor frequency) to the nearest KHz, which seems to be
fine for the majority of SSB QSO's that I've had. I personally find this
modification very convenient, and (even more importantly for me at the time)
it was very simple to implement in software.

But others may have differing opinions regarding the usefulness of this sort
of feature.

It's that short of that I'd like. It's especially handy when contesting
and you see several signals and want to jump from one to another quickly
rather than click the mouse wheel enough and with the right step size. Am I
the only one who thinks point and click tuning is a good thing?

Re: [Flexradio] Frequency Calibration on Recent SVN's

2006-09-10 Thread Tim Ellison
Just to add to Jimmy's comments.

After allowing the SDR-1k to warm up for hours, I tried the DSB method
described here where you zero beat the constant tone with ticks (not
just the ticks alone).

After calibrating from wwv using 15.0 MHz, the DSB method indicated that
the zero beat frequency was 14.95. This is easily done visually too
by using the scope. When you are not on frequency, there are two
separate waveforms on the scope. As you get closer to the zero beating
the tone, it will appear as one waveform in the middle of the screen
that doesn't jump around.

Now the real question: is this a problem with the calibration routine of
just an anomaly of using a frequency standard that is effected by
atmospheric and solar factors?

Re: [Flexradio] Weird Problem with Vox

2006-09-10 Thread Radio Station W5AMI
Hey Jimmy,

I've had the same problem for some time, well, ever since I tried
using VOX. I had best luck when I ran the VOX level up to like 1500+
or so, but still had problems with the rcvr tripping it when a loud
station would come on. When I ran the level down to about 200 or so,
it would hang and I had to shut the program down.

I have suggested an anti-vox level option on the Feature Request.
Depending on the local circumstances VOX can be useless without
anti-vox. I would love to run VOX on SSB, but have given up on it for
now. I do hope an anti-vox adjustment is in the works...

Exactly
Another weird little thing I've noticed when tuning using DSB is in the
phase display mode.
According to which side of center your on the display will move in a
clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.
I think ideally it should be completely stopped and inthe middle of the
display but my rig will not even come close to that. I love this little sdr

I have had problems before when the signal was not sufficient. I
suspect a lot of QSB or in particular a lot of fluttering on the
signal would drastically effect the ability for the calibration
routine to work properly as well. I wonder if setting the rcve filter
to a very narrow pass-band prior to running the calibration would
help, hurt, or not matter at all. Without looking at the code, I
 haven't a clue.

Eric; what actually happens there? What mode, filters, etc., are used
during calibration? Are those parameters hard coded, or does it use
the mode and filters the user has set?

 Brian / w5ami
PS: I am still able to calibrate just fine with the current svn.

Re: [Flexradio] Weird Problem with Vox

Well mine did work at one point Dudley.
I'll try those new settings.
I've even unplugged the mic all together though and it hangs for some
reason.
I'm using the latest SVN 671 and it does it also.
I really like the new look.

My apologies to all for my misreading of the spec. CLEARLY, it

The misprint is on the Ordering page and not on the Flex web page. All

If there is a web page somewhere that really says 50w on 6m, as stated

say 50w on 60m. I could not find an example of such.

No - no confusion here. The subject of the original post was 6M
  output
power. Apparently someone WAS confused and that's why the thread

Re: [Flexradio] svn 671

2006-09-10 Thread W5CUL
All,

Just loaded SVN 671, and I am seeing a transient when initially keying the
radio that produces a momentary RF output that spikes to roughly 43 Watts.
My PWR is set for 40W, and I am using a foot switch to key the radio. I
also see the spike when using the MOX button, and with the Mic Gain set at
0. I am using a Firebox for the audio interface. I also hear a loud
resounding pop when transitioning from transmit back to receive. When the
Firebox is disconnected from the radio, the symptoms go away. Is this what
was being referred to in the beware message for Firebox users? The spike
is not prevalent in V1.6.1 or V1.6.2, but the loud pop when transitioning
from transmit to receive is.

Thank you,

Re: [Flexradio] FW: 1.6.3 SVN 668 - Includes some great enhancements

2006-09-10 Thread Jeff Anderson
Hi Gary,

If you have either the official Flex code or my code with my mods, then, in
console.cs:

picDisplay_MouseMove() contains the calculation for the cursor frequency
freq (shown under the left-side of the panadapter), which I round when in
Panadapter mode *and* in LSB, USB, DSB, AM, or SAM (forgot to add FM).

picDisplay_MouseDown() contains the calculation for the VFOA (or VFOB)
frequency.

I haven't looked at Eric's code for a while, but if you look at these two
routines in his code it should be pretty evident what's going on and where
you would want to change the rounding.

And if you'd like a copy of my source, just ask!

First problem was that i goes directly to TX when I start push Standby

Fixing this with dissable PTT is not a good solution, then VOX dont work.

 Stig,

Open the Setup Form and go to the General Tab - Options sub tab. There
 is
a control there to disable PTT. The default shortcut for PTT is Ctrl+M.
Also, after you have clicked on the MOX button, you can push the spacebar
 to

FWIW, I found that if I used the WWV signal at 15 MHz the calibration

2006-09-10 Thread Robert McGwier
BEWARE. We are attempting to fix a problem with the switching. The
new switching code has been checked in with arbitrary values for certain
important parameters. If you are using a FIREBOX, do not use 671. Go
to an earlier version (easy to do in TortoiseSVN). The spike you see
can easily be large enough to fry U2, the QSD.DO NOT USE this code
to transmit.

As always, SVN code is user beware. Thus the note.

2006-09-10 Thread W5CUL
Bob,

Thank you for the quick response, and important details regarding SVN 671.
I would hate to see Flexradio inundated with many requests for repairs from
the Firebox user's community. I will migrate to an earlier version.
Considering that there are loud pops when transitioning from transmit to
receive in V1.6.1 V1.6.2, could the same damaging results be encountered
with these loads as well?

Thank you,

 All,

My PWR is set for 40W, and I am using a foot switch to key the radio. I
also see the spike when using the MOX button, and with the Mic Gain set
at
 0. I am using a Firebox for the audio interface. I also hear a loud
resounding pop when transitioning from transmit back to receive. When the
Firebox is disconnected from the radio, the symptoms go away. Is this
what

is not prevalent in V1.6.1 or V1.6.2, but the loud pop when transitioning

Re: [Flexradio] Frequency Calibration on Recent SVN's

2006-09-10 Thread Mike Naruta
I use the Phase 1 display and SAM mode.

Use the Freq Cal button to get close.

On the Hardware Config tab you can use the
up and down on the DDS Clock Offset to jump
by tens until you get the pattern to rotate
slowly clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Then you can type in values in between to
get it to stop.

WWV is not drifting. At least not an
amount that you would be able to measure.
If you have the thermistor crystal heater
stability mod, and your SDR-1000 has been
on a while, you can get quite close. The
instability left is probably from changes
in propagation path, ignoring possible CPU
clock and sound card clock drift.

If you watch it for a while, you can get a
feel for the propagation changes and have
a pretty good inference for the actual
frequency.

When I got my SDR-1000, I wondered why
anyone would ever need the phase display.
Now I would miss it if it were gone.

According to which side of center your on the display will move in a

I think ideally it should be completely stopped and inthe middle of the
display but my rig will not even come close to that. I love this little sdr

Hello again,

I have tested 3 computers and think that is good enough to determin that
my USB-adapter is not working 100%.

First problem was that i goes directly to TX when I start push Standby
button.
Fixing this with dissable PTT is not a good solution, then VOX dont
work.

Next problem is controlling the ATU.
This is not working, and the transmitter hangs in MOX.

I really hope you can send a new cable/adaptor without me first
returning, since that shipment vil cost me much.. And I also had to
struggle with it. :-)

Stig,

I'm starting to believe you are right about the USB Adapter. Please
double check the connections on both ends. You may want to try a
different USB port to see if that makes a difference.

 Stig,

Open the Setup Form and go to the General Tab - Options sub tab.
There is a control there to disable PTT. The default shortcut for PTT

 is Ctrl+M.
Also, after you have clicked on the MOX button, you can push the
spacebar to activate the last button. This can function as a pseudo
 PTT control.

  Stig,

The software is detecting PTT and it seems like it is not terminated
 into
  a

Re: [Flexradio] FW: 1.6.3 SVN 668 - Includes some great enhancements

2006-09-10 Thread Jeff Anderson
Yes, that's what you do for 1KHz rounding. Pretty simple, isn't it?

By the way...

If you want 500 Hz rounding instead of 1 KHz, change the rounding to:
Math.Round((freq*2),3)/2.
For example: VFOAFreq = Math.Round((freq*2),3)/2;

Also - the change you made will *always* round the point-and-click frequency
to the nearest KHz. You may not want this gross rounding in CW mode (for
example). I condition my rounding upon being in the Panadapter and having
one of the voice modes selected. Otherwise, I default to Math.Round(freq,
6).

Jeff:

You made it easy. In fact, to get what I wanted, all I had to do was change
the 6 significant digits after decimal to 3 in the
picDisplay_MouseDown() code as shown:

if(current_click_tune_mode == ClickTuneMode.VFOA)
VFOAFreq =
Math.Round(freq, 3);
else VFOBFreq =
Math.Round(freq, 3);

My service from flex has been excellent.

From your symptoms it sounds like either your cable is
not installed properly or you do not have the USB

Hope this is of some help
