Nothing dangerous about Facebook. What is dangerous is when people are stupid enough to join something like Facebook and then enter all their correct personal information, Facebook is very useful and a great way to keep in touch with friends and family. In fact I've connected with many family members I had forgotten about and some I never knew. Like, I said. People are stupid to enter real personal info into these sites, just modify your info, create an e-mail address from gmail or hotmail to use on sites like FB, and the dangerous part of FB now does not matter. Lets talk about radio. I love my Flex 3000. Steve Weisbrod wrote: I also refuse to use Face Book. I consider it dangerous and for people who need attention. [Flexradio] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info
This listing is not complete or comprehensive, but is what has been shared on the Facebook page. === PowerSDR v2.3.x New Feature Alert #1: TX Profiles saves all of the TX specific parameters, like Mixer settings, DSP buffers, VOX, DEXP, AM carrier level, (most) VAC parameters, etc... === PowerSDR v2.3.x New Feature Alert #2: Memory database auto backup and recovery. If the memory database becomes corrupted due to a forced or dirty shut down of PowerSDR, a backup of the DB, which is created when you start PowerSDR is automatically used to recover the lost memories. You may lose memories entered from the last session, but not the entire file. === PowerSDR v2.3.x New Feature Alert #3: 60m Band and new Channel Mode of operation for PowerSDR. In addition to supporting the new 60m channel 3 refactoring and the ability to operate CW (including TUNe) and digital modes, PowerSDR has a new Channel Mode for 60m. The 60m band has the five 60m channels (bandwidth) defined in the Panadapter. While within a channel's defined bandwidth, if you select CW, you will automatically be placed in the center of the channel (as per the new regulations) taking into account the CW sidetone offset. You will be able to change your frequency and transmit within the channel boundaries, but be midful of the regulations. Also there is no power restriction as you can now transmit up to 100W PEP on 60m. PowerSDR v2.3.x New Feature Alert #4: New Skins. There are six (6) new skins in PowerSDR. They are all original or derivative works from Beppe IK3VIG. They include multicolored buttons and new Panadapter backgrounds. === PowerSDR v2.3.5 New Feature Alert #5: Database backup and recovery. When PowerSDR is started, a session backup of the database is created with the _SBU suffix appended to the file name. If while you have PowerSDR open, you get your radio in a state where you want to revert back to how it was configured when you started PowerSDR, you do a database Import from the Setup form selecting the SBU backup. If you happen to shut down PowerSDR and then decide you want to go back to the initial operating state of your radio, when you restart PowerSDR v2.3.5, you do a database Import from the Setup form selecting the database with the _BAK suffix appended to the file name. This is the 1st generation created when PowerSDR is shut down. -- Tim Ellison, W4TME Product Management, Sales Support FlexRadio Systems^(TM) 4616 W Howard Ln, Suite 1-150 Austin, TX 78728 Phone: 512-535-4713 Ext. 223 Email: t...@flexradio.com mailto:t...@flexradio.com Web: www.flexradio.com http://www.flexradio.com logo ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

[Flexradio] FaceBook
Hi All I have no argument with using any of the social networks if they are used correctly then they can be very helpful, it is not the medium that is the problem but the people that use them. I agree that a lot of the personal and not so personal information that is posted is a load of rubbish and I pity the people that post it but it is this that gets the bad press not the stuff that is useful. I have to say that with facebook and twitter applications being incorporated into most smartphones why not take advantage of it if you want but you are the one that is in control, you don't have to follow garbage just follow the good stuff you never my know what you may learn! Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info
I have a few Nits to pick. For sure, these are completely in the Nit category and are mentioned more as suggestion, not as a complaint. Before I consider making a few feecher requests, I would like to run this past the crowd to see just how nuts I really am! 1. I use multiple monitors. I would like to make PSDR come up in FULL screen mode. It fits one monitor nicely. The 16 x 9 or 10 monitor aspect ratio seems to be the new standard. 2. I like to bring up the Voltage / Temp. display and leave it. (My shack is VERY dusty and the ^%$%^ cat sheds - I need a warning on the fan!) A command line parameter perhaps? 3. Expert mode needs to be Sticky or something like that. Maybe red text, or just make the warning highly visible. 4. Mouse wheel ALLWAYS on the frequency even when mouse is elsewhere (until focus is changed anyway)causes me minor disasters. Mouse can be focused on a slider and wheel will move slider one click and then go back to frequency. It does not seem consistent. I will re-research this and make list. 5. There are a number of setup values that can only be incremented / decremented by 5 or 10, a rather mixed blessing here. DDS offset and Waterfall background come to mind. Again, I want to stress these are NOT serious to me. These are just areas that would make a GREAT product even better here. Re: [Flexradio] New Release
Why don't we all give up this new fangled internet social medium, I mean who needs bulletin boards, forums, email reflector's, social networking sites etc Let's get back to radio net's I mean we are all radio amateurs aren't we, we don't need this computer stuff? Oh sorry I forgot, we have computers because we have the most technically superior radio's available, and as such we have merged our radio passion with 'some' level of computer knowledge, passion or at the very least interest. Heterogeneous social networking is what we do and have done for years using many forms of radio, computer communications, and so why not add the latest social sites such as Facebook to this optional list. I have read a series of articles in a UK radio magazine about SDR radio's, which while interesting, mentioned Flex-Radio in about 6 lines of text... it seems obvious the author has no idea of the size of the flex family and the number of its users around the world... If facebook helps to let people know about Flex-radio then it has to be a great thing. Remember, its OPTIONAL, choose one of several forms of social networking 73 Steve -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Burt Sammis Sent: 26 February 2012 14:54 To: bmil...@ecso.com; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] New Release The situation could not have been explained any better.I joined this reflector in order to gain information when I bought my 3000.There is so much griping and complainuing that I am about to unsubscribe.Leave Flex alone and let them do their work for the benefit of all Flex owners. Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info
Jim, Some of what you are asking is already there, but one for sure is a Windows issue and not something that Flex can correct, keeping the mouse focused on the Frequency, this is a MS issue.. There are several ways to try to get around it, and there is a Wiki article about this too. http://flexradiowiki.com/frsradoiowiki/index.php?title=Mouse_hover_focus-shift Or you can use the FlexControl knob, which can stay focused. PowerSDR should already remember the last size and position of you video, unless your video driver likes to reset everything, and start it on the 1st or Windows screen. I think that all the values windows are where you can highlight and type in the value, even the DDS, even faction of a value.. Try it..By the way, on the sliders, if you move your cursor just to the right or left of the slider button itself, left click, then the slider will only move one digit value for each click.. Maybe this will make your short list even shorter.. hi hi 73, Dudley On 2/26/2012 8:53 AM, Jim Jannuzzo wrote: Let's expand 1 and 2 to : remember last window positions and sizes, and state. Michael, while I am with you in the spirit, my experience with listservs and reflectors (and FB pages) is that they go where they want to go and efforts to redirect them either get the razzberry or get ignored. If you want to see fierce, unyielding attempts to make a reflector go where a few individuals want it to go...and the utter lack of success those individuals encounter, check out the Time Nuts. Re: [Flexradio] New Release
IMHO, I believe that Flex is using Facebook for many reasons. One of them is to spread the word of Flex to a different demographic. The future of Flex Radio is for younger hams who grew up with computers to embrace the technology and take Flex into the future. I can understand that the average age of ham radio operators is over 50 and therefore do not embrace the whole social media craze. I use multiple platforms to stay connected with family, friends, family and customers, and this is very helpful to keep track of developments in the Flex community. I would like to make PSDR come up in FULL screen mode. It fits one monitor nicely. The 16 x 9 or 10 monitor aspect ratio seems to be the new standard. 2. I like to bring up the Voltage / Temp. display and leave it. (My shack is VERY dusty and the^%$%^ cat sheds - I need a warning on the fan!) A command line parameter perhaps? 3. [Flexradio] Radio locks up when pressing the TUN button
Something odd happened today. I am running a Flex 3000. I was at 28.457 and trying to tune up the radio to my antenna with my tuner. I had just tuned successfully just a little off this frequency and was just touching up the tune. I pressed the TUN button in Power SDR, and it totally locked up and continued to transmit. The only way I could make it stop was to use ALT-F4 to close Power SDR (version 2.2.3), or to turn off the radio, which, of course, crashes Power SDR. I tried changing the frequency, and it worked flawlessly on all other bands, and also on this band without any lockup, EXCEPT between 28.4558 and 28.4575 where it consistently locked up Power SDR. I finally tried reducing the tune power from the 50 watts my copy of Power SDR to 10 watts, and it seems to have made the problem go away. I do not recall changing the default tune power to 50 watts, and now wonder why it is variable if it can cause Power SDR to lock up. I see that the screen capture in the manual shows it set at 10 watts, but why is it allowed to be changed? What else is TUN used for? Re: [Flexradio] Radio locks up when pressing the TUN button
Which tuner are you trying to tune? The internal tuner in the F3K or an external tuner? The reason higher power levels are allowed when tuning is some external ATUs and amps need more than 10 watts. We also use TUNe at 100 watts into a dummy load to verify the PA maximum output without have to hook up a key in CW mode to do it. [Flexradio] Help with VAC
I know this isn't a VAC support forum, but everyone seems to use it so here goes. I purchased a copy of VAC last week. Uninstalled my demo version and installed the full version. I'm going through How to Set Up VAC 4.x in the Flex Knowledge Centre, and my copy of VAC shows one cable that currently exists. The instructions say that to create a second cable I go to the Drive Parameters area in the VAC Control Panel, change 1 to 2 in the Cables box, click Set and Click Restart. I change 1 to 2 and click Set and get the following message: Cannot change device property (0/5 - Access is denied). Then VAC quits and I have to restart it. I don't even understand what that error message means! Can someone explain in words I can understand what's happening here? I've tried the VAC Help but I find it so full of jargon I don't understand it makes me dizzy, which, admittedly is pretty easy! :-) No other software is currently running, including PSDR. Re: [Flexradio] Radio locks up when pressing the TUN button
Tim, Thanks for the quick response. I was trying to tune through my Palstar AT2K manual tuner. You are correct that it does not lock up when using the internal tuner. I wonder why that particular combination of frequency and power caused it to lock up when just a few kilohertz away it worked fine? I assume that your recommendation for power is anything less than the power that locks it up? Gary WG1I On 2/26/2012 2:17 PM, Tim Ellison, W4TME wrote: Which tuner are you trying to tune? Re: [Flexradio] OT FaceBook
The thing that concerns many about Facebook -- and other services such as Google and Yahoo -- is the data mining and aggregation that is performed. Often this is done without the full knowledge and consent of the users -- especially regarding the uses that the information is ultimately put to. Books such as I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did and The Filter Bubble: What the Internet Is Hiding From You make very interesting reading. This is not to say that social networks and other internet services are of no value.
