Re: [Flexradio] new Sdr problem
Ray, Not to question your troubleshooting, however I assume you have pressed the "Standby" button on the console (upper left) to turn the console/rig on? What you describe sounds just how the rig would behave if it were still in "Standby" mode. The switch on the box _and_ the button on the console both have to be on for the rig to operate. [Flexradio] S-Meter calibration
Howdy Flexers, I just had a thought about calibrating my S-Meter and wondered if I should turn off the preamp first, or does it do this during calibration? Seems to me that the S-Meter should be calibrated with no preamp, but maybe I'm wrong. [Flexradio] Audio Reverb
Has anyone else noticed a very slight reverb in their transmitted audio? At first I thought it might be my outboard audio gear, a Behringer Tube mic-pre, tube Ultra-Q, and a tube Composer. I took everything out of line (physically) except the mic preamp, and still detect this. I am not talking about the latency echo of the monitor... This has been reported to me on the air by at least two people. It is not really that bad, just a very slight amount, but I would like to know if there is anything in the setup that I might have adjusted wrong. I have not tried the mic directly since it requires phantom power, but have listened to the audio directly out of the Behringer gear and it has no reverb. [Flexradio] Delta 44 & Audio settings in general
I wonder if someone can help me out on some audio issues... Reading back over the Delta 44 Quick Start Guide, it states to adjust the mic gain using the ALC meter during transmit and adjust until the peaks just reach 0db. It further says to make certain the compressor is NOT turned on (and I assume the compander too). Problem is, I can not get it to reach 0db no matter how much I turn up the mic pre-amp on the console. If I turn on the compressor and compander, I can reach 0db. I don't think it has anything to do with a weak input, as I am using an outboard mic pre-amp (Behringer Tube Ultragain), and even if I try to increase the output on the audio chain it will not reach 0db. I noticed that the document was published when version 1.3.x was released. Has something changed since then? BTW, I do have In3 set to -10db as it shows in the document. Re: [Flexradio] Henry 3K Classic & SDR-1000
Thanks for all the replies on this. Larry, thanks for making the measurements on yours. That confirms that mine has apparently been fried, as it measures about 25 ohms keyed or not, and I do have the X2 sequencing checked in setup. I suspect RF must have gotten into my isolation box, as I was not connected directly to the Henry key jack from the SDR. Initially I had a boat load of RF in the shack until I found the problem. By then it was too late, and it quit keying. Oh well, in the meantime I will operate with a switch. Anyone know what I need to do to make the repair to the ULN2003A circuit? [Flexradio] Henry 3K Classic & SDR-1000
I just hooked up my SDR to my Henry 3K Classic. I used pin 7 and pin 15 (grnd) on the X2 connector to cause the relay to go to ground, however something is wrong. If I use my ohmmeter between 7 and 15 without being keyed, I am seeing about 40 ohms, and when I key the SDR, it does not change. I can transmit on the Henry, but the ant relay does not switch back so that I can receive without pressing the standby switch on the amp. The amp only requires grounding the center pin on the rca jack, which is what I thought a connection of pin 7 & 15 would do on keyup of the SDR. Any suggestions appreciated. I got my SDR-1000/100 watt unit & D-44 Friday, and have had a blast with it since. I have not even transmitted on it as yet, however the rx functionality is really something. The Flex guys did a great job in covering everything on how to get things set up. I didn't have a single problem in the process. I was up at 3:00 AM this morning playing with it, and still going. Storms coming in now, so maybe I can get some sleep... 73, Brian - w5ami
Re: [Flexradio] Potential purchaser questions
Thanks to both Larry's. That answers my questions. I see where the current requirement of certain relays could be a problem, however a secondary relay system could be used to key the one requiring the higher current I suppose. Come to think of it, I am sure my old Dow key relay is a 110vac coil, so I will HAVE to use a second 12v relay to send 110 to the Dow key. I've had problems with back EMF before, but there are ways to prevent that too, diodes, etc. Okay, Great! I was a bit worried for a moment that there was no keying voltage. Thanks Again, Brian / w5ami

[Flexradio] Optimizing Windows XP Pro
This subject has probably been discussed before, and I did look best I could in the archives. Wish Pipermail has a search tool... I should get my SDR1K soon, and will likely set it up on a Windows XP Pro box initially. I've also got a Linux box, but I want to wait on that for certain reasons. Does anyone have and suggestions, tips, tricks or links to help in optimizing XP? Like unloading things that are not needed running in background, etc., etc. I know this Windows box has got a lot of junk on it, and could probably use a good going over. I want to reduce latency as much as possible. I don't know a lot about Windows (mainly a DOS and Linux ol' coot) so I'm kind of in the dark about all these processes which are running in background. [Flexradio] Linux dttsp
I have a box for both Linux and Windows and would like to get the dttsp for Linux, however I'm not having much luck using cvs. Never have used cvs before, so I'm sure it's a user problem. Do I need to login using "cvs login" first? I've tried that, however it asks for a password which I thought would be anoncvs which doesn't appear to work. I've tried to follow the instructions at: http://dttsp.sourceforge.net/cvs.html Any help appreciated. Brian / w5ami
[Flexradio] Mic Pre?
I know I read somewhere that someone did some rather extensive testing on the audio input for the SDR-1000, and found that a low noise mic pre ahead of the box was better than cranking up the gain on the console. This makes sense to me as I've found the same in the past using analog type devices. I used to use a Symetrix 528 voice processor, however it appears to be dead now. The article I read (somewhere) mentioned a Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer. The price was right, so I ordered one the other day. My question is this; should I use the input on the SDR-1000 box or the D-44 from the UB802 mixer? I plan to use a balanced line, low-z mic. As mentioned in my earlier post, I don't have my sdr-1000 yet, but I'm just trying (hoping) to get some things established ahead of time. TIA & 73 Brian w5ami
[Flexradio] New member
Hello All, I am a new member of this reflector and soon to be a new SDR-1000 owner when the unit arrives. I have been completely out of radio for about 5 years and decided to come back in with a totally new (to me) technology. Being a collector of vintage gear for many years, this will be an interesting turn for me, however I am not new to computers as that is where my profession lies. Anyway, I just wanted to drop a note to the group and say hello! I live on 30 acres north of Vilonia Arkansas. Hope to work many of you in the near future on HF or VHF and above. I operate mainly SSB, AM, and CW. Have done some digital in the past, but not much. Also interested in radio astronomy, in particular Solar and Jovian noise bursts in the area of 20MHz. I think the SDR1K will really be handy for this application. I should have my SDR1K w/D44 in a few weeks, and if there are any hints or things I should avoid on start-up, I would sure appreciate hearing from you. Of course I have been reading the manual over and over. 73 Brian / W5AMI www.arksky.org
