Seems OK to me. I upgraded from v2.6.4. I read the release notes. The only
thing that didn't transfer was the CW messages and the antenna connections
for the different bands. No big deal.

I am running 2.5 and considering upgrading. Things are running smoothly
now.
Is it the consensus to upgrade now or wait for a maintenance release or
?

However I seem to remember reading that some difficulties were encountered

It's now been removed from my start menu, and the legacy firewire driver
instaalled, radio been running for 3 hrs now without a glitch.

What did you change or install when the problem got worse? Did you do a
software update or install something new? Tim is right. This is almost
assuredly a DPC problem.

I don't know why people don't use the DPC checker built into the Flex
FireWire driver. It is right there to use. Turn it on and leave it on the
screen. At the moment that the radio goes into grunge mode look at the
peak DPC value. I bet you will see a clear peak in DPC at that moment. This
is a well-understood problem but one that has plagued users of the flex
radios from day one.

I think at one time someone posted an example of just such a program for

I rather suspect that your problem may be RFI getting into the laptop, and
it is especially sensitive at 20m. Make sure all the leads are screened, and
fit ferrites to each end of the leads. I had to wind my pc speaker leads

Hi all

Got something that has been plaguing me for a few weeks. If I TX on 15m at
about 50W all is well. If I TX on 20m even on QRP then the PSDR freezes up
and I have always needed to reboot, which is extremely annoying.

I was using PSDR 1.18.6 uptil earlier today, and deciced I'd take a look at
PSDR v2.0.16, which is now installed. (no hotfix as when i received it from
Microsoft by email and tried to isnatll it it said access denied, so I guess
the hotfix doesn't find the issue it is meant to fix).

I run WinXP SP3 on a Dell Latitude D630, which gave me a Performance rating
of 501, so it's passable but not brilliant.

So I was having a play on BPSK63 to test out the radio issue on 20m and lo
and behold I noted my issue.

I took 4 screenshots with Snagit to illustrate my issue and errors
encountered.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/61156608@N00/sets/72157625982756274/

I have been using my radio successfully since about August and the issue
only started since early January.

Any ideas?

Re: [Flexradio] Is it worth the trouble??

2009-06-02 Thread Charlie Morrison
Hi Harold

The Flex series of radios is very much a work in progress, it continually
evolves and improves.
IMHO it is the absolute best system available - remember that all the flex
users have very different computer setups, and most of the lockup problems
are due to the computer hardware/software setup rather than the Flex
Hardware.

Since buying my flex, I have learnt so much about its internal workings and
also about what my computer was *really* doing, at the same time being able
to work CW with my own custom filters :-)

Just my tuppence worth as they say here in the UK, or 2 cents worth I
suppose in USA

This year at Dayton I was able to see the Flex radios. When I got home I
signed up and have been reading the reflector emails to decide if I wanted
to buy a Flex.

It appears to me that a lot of you are having problems, both with the rigs
and the software. It appears that the software interface to the computer is
full of bugs. I see a lot about lockups, etc.

I have come to the conclusion that it's best to wait a while but I will try
to remain open minded.

My question is would you buy this radio again and is it worth all the
trouble/issues that you guys seem to have?.

Thanks for any comments,

Bill,

The MFJ-998 is an automatic antenna tuner. If you set the FLEX-5000
internal tuner to BYP (Bypass), then clicking on TUN will cause the
FLEX-5000 (or SDR-1000 for that matter) to transmit a carrier at the tune
power level. With the MFJ-998 in automatic mode, it should tune
automatically. Click TUN again to return to normal operation.

The short answer is no, not currently. The d-sub connector isn't a serial
port, it is a FlexWire port. As such, you have to design an IC2 hardware
interface to connect to it and the peripheral you want to talk to and then
write code to control it. To date, there is not anything like that
available.

On a different tack, I have an Elecraft KAT100 which I would like to
interface to the 5K - is this possible using the D connector on the back of
the Flex?

Is there any provision in the hardware or software in the Flex-5000 to
support an external tuner such as the MFJ-998 and similar?

Yes, you get virtual ionization of the E and F layers without any
ionization of the D layer for superb communication. Another name for
this phenomenon is called ILink, you observe a similar effect in Teamspeak.

Re: [Flexradio] HRD and PTT latency.

Hi John

Had same problem here, and effected the same solution - think it must be due
to the routines being run by PC at changeover

I notice the same latency with HRD, and only HRD. My solution is in
DM780 Options to click on
PTT by Comport, rather than PTT by SW command. Also activate and set PTT
comport in PowerSDR to the correct virtual comport. Then no PTT latency.

(Prefer Fldigi anyways) :)

With HRD only, I notice up to 3 seconds latency between clicking TX

TX or vice versa. It is the same with Vcom as with com0com.

This never happens with the other three programs.

Does anyone know a fix for this, or is it inherent to the
combination HRD - 780, VAC and Vcom ?

I would love to hear an answer to this question also. I have stopped
using HRD because of the keying latency. It causes the loss of the
preamble on modes like Oliva and MFSK-16.

[Flexradio] Audio problem on Flex 5K

2008-10-15 Thread Charlie Morrison
My Flex 5K has suddenly developed a problem on SSB, in as much as when I PTT
the radio with the footswitch, then speak, the PTT relay drops and puts the
radio back into RX after about 1-3 secs. This Happens with both my Heil HC4
Headset in the MIC socket, and My PR781 in the balanced socket at the back.
If I PTT the radio with the footswitch and do not speak, the radio stays in
TX. There is no problem with CW.

Setup - Powersdr at current SVN, current Firmware 1.2.2.3, Dual core Machine
with 4gb Ram - Problem exists at all sampling rates and buffer sizes, and in
USB, LSB, DSB and AM. It does not seem to affect Digimodes using VAC

Any Ideas?

Is it possible to make the flex tx/rx on the 4m band (70.00-70.5 MHZ) and if
so is a firmware patch available for it?.

The 4m band is now widely allocated throughout Europe and it would be nice
to use it there

I find this obviously new firmware?

I am running the test/bin/release branch of SDR 1.13

[Flexradio] Flex 5K - Sticking TRX Relay

2008-05-21 Thread Charlie Morrison
Hi Group

I have a Flex 5K which I bought second-hand, s/n 3507-5064.

The TRX Changeover relay sticks in transmit intermittently - I need to know
how I go about getting a replacement - I don't know how old the radio is,
but would assume it is still under warranty. I Live in N Ireland, and would
rather replace the relay myself than send the radio off somewhere

Could someone give me some pointers

Regards

[Flexradio] Problems with RTTY using MMTTY engine

2008-05-10 Thread Charlie Morrison

Hi Group – I am having a problem running RTTY – the problem seems to be
sampling rates in MMTTY Engine

My setup is Flex5000A under control of DXCommander, and audio via a pair of
virtual audio cables.

If I set the sampling to 48000 in PowerSDR, MMTTY will decode ok on RX, but
will not TX Properly. This is because the MMTTY sample rate is 11025.
If I set sampling in PowerSDR to 11025, MMTTY will TX ok, but will not
decode on RX.

Both the VAC’s are set for sampling between 11025 and 96000

This occurs in any program using the MMTTY engine - But RTTY works fine In
DM780

Anyone encounter a similar problem?

TIA
