Last August I did an excellent interview with Greg Jurrens (he made it
excellent, I didn't) on the 6000 series. If you missed it here it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0bf5wdtL1Y
He says it will be out 4th quarter 2012, is it out yet?
He is really good, I am surprised Flex does not use it because he makes the
complex easy to understand.

Re: [Flexradio] Computer recommendations

2012-10-21 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hi Richard,

I've been using my 5000A for a couple of years now with my XP core2duo from
Dell and I have it a fully automated system with an Alpha amp, antenna
switching, SteppIR antenna and rotor all being controlled by the flex and
DDUtil

So far I have had very few computer problems but, I know what you mean about
having second thoughts some times; like when I have to wait a couple of
minutes for the PC to boot up before I can run the radio But after all
has been said and done it’s the best receiver I have ever used and DX
chasing is more fun now than ever before.

So, I have thought of going to one of the big box radios but no joy, none of
them have the real time panadapter and so on

Have fun with what ever you choose buy the way I have a 6500 on
order

I'm in a quandary. I've been having trouble for some time now running my
flex5KA under windows on my iMac (under Boot Czmp). I've been unable over
the course of several weeks to fix the BSOD problem which came about
shortly after the upgrade to 2.4.4 So I have several choices and would like
your input.

1. Buy a new windows only computer - which off the shelf model are you
using successfully? I'm also considering one of Neal's.

2. Pay for tech support to try and remotely fix my problem and stick with
my iMac.

3. Get out of the SDR business all together and sell my flex as I've become
a bit jaded with radios that are computer dependent. On the other hand it's
established an expectation that will be hard to match.

What would you do? I'd be grateful for suggestions and computer
recommendations.
Tnx

Re: [Flexradio] Flex-6500 antenna port (s)

2012-05-26 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello Eric,

A friend and are now thoroughly confused on this whole antenna port
question…. In a recent email you say only one antenna to an SCU and in a
previous question I asked on the 24th you said I can have a receive antenna
connected as well as a main antenna ( I assume that means I can switch
between antennas like on the 5000A)…. So which is it???

On this whole question regarding antenna inputs could someone at Flex PLEASE
draw a diagram!!

“6. An SCU must be connected to one and only one antenna port. So if you
have two SCUs (FLEX-6700) you can place slice receivers on two antennas 7.
Slice receivers may be placed on any SCU. This means that you may have all
eight slice receivers on a single SCU (and therefore antenna) if you
desire.”

“Yes. You can use any of the 4 antenna inputs for reception on the 6500
(ANT 1, ANT 2, RX ANT A-In, and XVTR). Note that on the 6700, each SCU has
4 options for receive antennas (SCU-1 would use RX ANT A-In, SCU-2 would use
RX ANT B-In).”

Re: [Flexradio] DDUtil profiles

2011-07-04 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello Jeff,

I have noticed that too but I found in my case it was due to my serial ports
not always being connected when DDUtil was coming up or the serial ports not
being connected to the PC/or on when the PC was coming up...

Unless the ports are assigned the same each time you bring up your PC,
DDUtil will not know what to do and start assigning incorrect port addresses
for you.

Other than this issue I have never had DDUtil not remember the correct port.

Subject: [Flexradio] DDUtil profiles

I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with DDUtil not remembering the
settings after it's been shut down?  About 75% of the time when I start up
the program, at least one of the COM port settings has changed.  What I did
was put everything exactly like I want it, make notes in the space provided
as to programs and ports, and then save the profile.  That way I can easily
recall the profile after the program loads up to have the necessary configs
to operate.  It's an easy fix but a little annoying.  It works fine after
recalling the program.

In case it matters, here's my order of operations:  turn on PS, turn on
Flex5k, load DDUtil, load Minideluxe (in RCP2 as suggested and not RCP1),
load HRD Logger  I'm using what I believe to be the most current version
of DDUtil which is 2.0something.  I can't remember the exact number but I
did upgrade from 1.8 and it's a whole lot more stable now.  The computer is
Win7 Ultimate x64.  Maybe I just need to uninstall and re-install program?
I know VSPmgr specifically says to run in WinXP compatibiltiy mode as
Admin.  Do I need to do that with this program, too?  Also I think I
remember the instructions for VSPmgr saying to save it to C:\ and not in
Program Files as windows typically wants to install it.  I couldn't find
anything specifically recommending these actions for this program.  Maybe
that would help?  I think maybe these programs are written my the same
person?

Also, one last question I haven't found addressed in the wiki is what
program should be used for RCP1?  I only ask because Minideluxe said not to
use it there, which is where I would've naturally thought to put it.  Is it
reserved for some specific program or just a conflict with that program for
whatever reason?  I'm really enjoying this learning process and playing
around with SDR.  All that can be done with software control using just a
computer and firewire cable totally amazes me! Thanks for the input or maybe
leading me in the direction to find out more.  Enjoy the holiday.

[Flexradio] Scope display missing??

My scope display is a flat line. I have shutoff my 5000A including the
power supply and so far I have not been able to get the scope to work at all
and that includes the Panascope display. All other displays work just fine.

I am running a 5000A with Core2duo machine running XP professional. All
software is up to date with all updates and I'm running 2.0.22 using the
default display. RX2 was off. I thought the scope function was working on
2.0.22 when I first installed it but I don't remember for sure. The scope
function definitely worked with 1.18.5

[Flexradio] CW bandwidth too wide with PSDR 2.0.22

2011-04-23 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello all,

Has anyone experienced a bug with 2.0.22 where the CW bandwidth is almost
three times wider than the selected width?? (or this might be shallow
skirts issue.)

This was NOT an issue with 1.18.5. Tones from Signals outside of the
highlighted bandwidth could not be heard except for a click some times, but
with PSDR 2.0.22 I hear a distinct tone on signals way outside of the
selected BW.

Test case: 400hz BW, tried it on 15 and 17m, my rx buffers never changed
from 1.18.5. to 2.0.22. CW RX buffer set at 1024 and sample rate is 192kHz.

I'm running Core 2 Duo machine with XP and all the latest updates and latest
Flex firmware.

All help would be appreciated.

[Flexradio] Transmit motorboating with 2nd receiver on during transmit!

2011-04-23 Thread Dennis Petrich

Hello all,

I have been experiencing an unusual bug with my 5000A and the 2nd receiver
when I transmit in AM, or put out a steady carrier. People on the other end
hear very loud motor-boating of my signal at around 400Hz. Same happens
when I put a steady carrier out there. The motor-boating stops when I shut
off the 2nd receiver. I have a GAP vertical connected to the 2nd receiver
via a coax switch so I can disconnect the GAP if needed but that doesn't
stop the motor-boating, only shutting off the 2nd receiver does.

I'm running XP with core 2 Duo hardware, PSDR 2.0.22, and all the latest
firmware and software updates. This also happens on any band from 80m to 6m
and I'm only running 25w.

By the way, the GAP is 70' from then main tower with the horizontal antennas
on it. Also, when I look at my signal from the 5000A on a monitor scope I
see the signal switching on and off like it's being keyed on and off so the
motor-boating is not a modulation but the carrier being keyed on and off

All help and suggestions are welcome except selling my 5000A.

Regards, Dennis, k0eoo

The shape factor degrades as you go up in sample rate. This is on the to do
list but requires extensive code rewrite to make one shape factor for all
rates.

Dennis,

That certainly sounds like your FireWire driver is not keeping with the
higher loading presented by the second receiver. Try different Mode
settings in the FlexRadio FireWire driver. Also, try different audio buffer
sizes. Make sure you have the Windows IEEE-1394 hotfix for XP. You can
find the instructions in the Knowledge Center.

Hope that helps.

All my settings were for normal font size so that's not it. I'll get back
in here when I get a screen shot of what I'm talking about.

Hello Dennis -

I found (On Win7) that if you have the font size greater that 100%, the
display of the Flex is distorted, on startup. Simply go to
setupappearanceSkins, and re-select the one you want. That seems to bring

back the screen to normal.

Good luck.

 Hello,

I'm running an XP machine with all the latest updates, core2duo, Nvidia
graphics accelerator, two screens and so on. screen always looked good on
1.18.5 but now with 2.0.22 I noticed the box outlines are not where they
should be (as in the screen shot Tim sent last night.). on my screen the
box outlines cut across the middle of some of the buttons and some of the
buttons seem to have extra lines in them; nothing like the screen shot
 from Tim.

It looks to me like I have a font setting on my PC that is incorrect
causing some sort of graphic overrun or something

I'll try and do a screen capture if the issue is not resolved by tonight.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I've also noticed that if I move the AGC-T control down the gain
decreases as expected, but raising it back up doesn't bring the gain
back up until I change modes off AM and back again. If I remember
correctly this isn't 100% repeatable, but unfortunately I haven't as yet

Your use of any significant bugs reminds me that there are still
non-trivial issues with the AGC in AM mode.
I believe they've been reported by different people in various ways
and are still outstanding as of 1.18.3 .

Not to detract from your other comments in any way. The 5000A is

Hi Jim,

I have also noticed this issue. It surfaced with 1.18.1 and bug number 2240
was opened to address the issue on May 27, 2009. It is a significant setback
in the reception of AM signals. I would think it should have been addressed
by now or at least the status of the bug should have been updated as to what
Flex intends to do about it.

Anthony,

The NR goes through a short training process, even with each change
that you make to the settings in the DSP = Options tab.. The overall
effect is dependent on the bandwidth of the receiver passband. Try
this, lower the number of Taps, (I've got mine right now to 39) ,
then drop the Delay (try 30) , and adjust the Gain (mine at 17)
but you can adjust them where you like, but try dropping the Delay
first, this will decrease the time before the changes take over. Then
adjust to match your conditions and taste..

Hope this helps.

Dudley

I honestly expected it to do a better job than IF DSP (Like on the IC7000

It may be that I just have not found the right combination of settings..

Does anyone have any setting combos that seem to work well without

[Flexradio] External PTT not working?

Hello all,

I have a new Flex5000A and for some reason the external PTT stopped
working?? I am using DDUtil to drive my steppir and 2800 rotor and using
DX4WIN as my logging program. I have everything working together very
nicely in automatic mode. I tried using the external PTT (pluged in the

other programs off and still no joy. I shutdown the flex and restarted
everything and still no joy? I verifyed the PTT switch was working. At
this point I could use a fresh idea?

Thanks in advance, Dennis, k0eoo

You might check to see if you have any sort of firewall program running on

My symptom was a low latency reading, ~ 350 or so when in normal

I shut down the fire wall and now my latency sits around 100 micro

While anti virus stuff is a unfortunate necessity today, those sorts of

I guess I just dont understand why the 5000 needs to have a preamp on 6
meters. I will admit I like my 5000 better than my IC-7800 in every
catagory
except the recieve on 6 meters. The Flex, if we were scoring on a scale of
0
to 10, is about a 3 at best on 6 meter recieve compared to my 7800. Why
cant

there be a additional module or mod for the 5000 so it is up to par out of
the box. No add on preamps. Just does not make sense to pay that much for
a

rig and it needs a recieve preamp on 6. Dont get me wrong, I love the Flex
and would recommend it over any rig. I just think they missed the mark on
this issue.

If you look outside of your own personal needs you will see that the Flex
5000 was Flex's first really serious entry into high performance
transceivers. As much as the SDR-1000 changed the world for me
personally, it was never meant to be a high end transceiver project. That
it got as far as it did bespeaks of the tenacity and cleverness of its
designer.

On the Flex 5000, though it is Flex's first major entry, it made it at the
top of the list of entries in receiver performance on Sherwood Engineering
and ARRL test sites and is still in the top two or three. The Flex 5000
has extremely good performance for HF low bands. Flex 5000 would not sell
well if it had poor low band performance and there would be no 3000 if
that were the case is my short version of my opinions on this matter. The
3000 does NOT equal the 5000 in receiver performance on the low bands. I
think most will agree that operating well on 160m-20m is more important to
sales than 6m.

It takes a very inexpensive preamp for 6m to make it a top performer and
it is a complete triviality to hook it into the loop provided on the back
of the radio and adjust the operation to automatically use that preamp on
6 and on 6 only.

The Flex 5000A currently has a noise figure of approx. 16 to 20dB at an
MDS of approx. -126dBm..Addition of a low noise figure preamp ($100)
can substantially improve the receiver noise figure but is not mandatory
for normal operation. My reference rig is the Icom Pro III which has a
6 meter MDS of approx. -142dBm with a noise figure of approx. 5 to
8dB...With an appropriate preamp the Flex can reach this level of
performance with a better dynamic range to boot..Other brand rigs have
the same problem as the Flex 5000A (ex K3 sells a 6M preamp) when it comes
to sensitivity and noise figure. The preamp is only needed if you wish
to do weak signal work..In general one should consider the total
system noise figure of the stationOne of the best performance
improvements can be had by reducing the feedline losses.Losses in the
receiver front end directly reduce the receiver noise figure and feedline
affects both TX and RX performance. There
are many other metrics one should consider in rig performanceI own
several of the top-end rigs and have found the Flex 5000A beats them hands
down in overall receiver performanceThe receiver dynamic range
(weakest to strongest signal) for the Flex is phenominal..The receiver
noise reduction along with the filtering is additionally on par with
$10K rigs.
In the words of an old timer.spend all your money on the antenna and
feedline if you have any money left over buy a rig..

[Flexradio] SDR-1000 for sale

2009-06-21 Thread Dennis Petrich

Hello all,

I have a very nice late model, 8 pin mike connector, SDR-1000 I would like
to sell. Its in like new condition and includes the FA-66 sound module with
all audio cables including the parallel and firewire cables. Nothing else
to buy and you will be on the air with the new SDR technology.

This was my starter SDR radio. For the price its a great way to get your
feet wet in SDR techmology while your having fun working DX and enjoying the
REAL TIME RADIO world of brick wall filters and Panadapters that give you a
190KHz view of the band. The SDR-1000 has dual watch, you can listen to two
frequencies in the window at the same time; great for working cross band or
outside the pileup. In the few short months I had this radio I have doubled
my country count on 40 and 80 meters. So, I'm selling because I need to
make room for my next Flex radio not because I'm getting our of SDR or ham
radio. I will send pictures on request. Would like $850 bucks for the
package plus shipping

Interested parties please respond off reflector, thanks

Re: [Flexradio] 6 meters hot tonight

2009-06-17 Thread Dennis Petrich
I worked about 6 SSB stations and one CW station in the NE states and VE2
and VE3 with my SDR-1000 at 500mw and 4ele at 75'. No rx amp either.
Signals were s9+ at times. I checked the sensitivity of my SDR-1k on 6m and
it was around -108dBm. I could easily ear a 2microV at the input. Not as
bad as I thought it would be

Wow is right. It is hard to understand just how impressive 40F really is.
40G sounds the most impressive but to the trained ear and tools, 40 F is
amazing. The Flex 5000 is utterly coherent through the oscillators. It
is two different DDS's that are synchronized by a built in system which
Gerald made sure was supported. As soon as we made the software
oscillators coherent (identical in fact) and then applied a phase and
amplitude modification (scalar) to one of them for phasing, we get a
phase stable system.

I was expecting it to work but I had no idea it would be this impressive.

More things like this are to follow.

Frank mentioned one person who had done some phasing experiments. I would
also like to mention Alex Shovkoplyas, VE3NEA who has done a really neat
version. I intend to steal his user interface idea completely. It makes
both mathematical and user sense.

In 40-E I found on static the source is sort of from a quadrant and so
the notching is very broad. None the less I could get about 3dB of noise
reduction. In 40-F the SWBC is dramatic. The station was very weak. If
this had been a CW station it would have been Q5. Finally in 40-G the AM
BC station is about 4 miles north of my house and extremely strong. The
effect is amazing!! (and the tuning is critical)

As to the static canceling question, you have no real need of using the
second receiver, just make another watch receiver and use the in-band
noise you already have contained in the 192khz base band. I expect this
test by Bob is the first step toward that goal. Once that is
accomplished it will be the gorilla of next killer apps!!!

[Flexradio] PowerSDR 1.14.0 question

2008-09-06 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello guys,

I just love the new scope and Panascope feature!!! The display looks
just like a monitor scope My question is, how can I turn the scope
vertical gain down without effecting the receivers gain??? The vertical
gain is so much it goes off the screen or in Panascope mode it covers up the
panadapter display. The AGC-T control will lower the scope gain but it cuts
the receiver gain too much. So what am I missing??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you can now select input and output soundcard devices independently.
 I
also increased the serial port range to 16, knowing the Flexer's appetite
 for virtual ports.

Updated online help is now available and included in the release. Its also
 available independently via

 http://www.dxlabsuite.com/MMTTY/mmtty.chm

The release note is appended below.

73,

 Dave, AA6YQ

 MMTTY version 1.66F release note
 2008-08-17

 1. Changes to the MMTTY Setup window
 ==

 A. TX tab

 - renamed the PTT panel to PTT FSK (tnx to Joe W4TV)

 - added com8 through com16 to the PTT FSK panel's Port selector (tnx
 to Oba-san JA7UDE)

 - clicking a button in the Input Button panel from a non-Japanese locale
displays a window entitled Edit Button (tnx to Joe W4TV)

 B. Misc tab

 - the new Device Identifiers panel enables independent selection of
soundcard devices for reception (RX) and transmission (TX); any of 16
input and output soundcard devices can be selected (tnx to Gil W0MN and
 Joe
 W4TV)

 - selecting an RX or TX device identifier in the Device Identifiers
panel updates the respective Reception or Transmission panels shown on
 the new Soundcard tab

 C. Soundcard tab (new)

 - the Reception panel shows all installed soundcard input devices;
selecting an input device updates the RX selector in the Misc tab's
 Device Identifiers panel

 - the Transmission panel shows all installed soundcard output devices;
selecting an output device updates the TX selector in the Misc tab's
 Device Identifiers panel

 2. Changes to the Radio Command window

 - added com8 through com16 to the Port selector (tnx to Oba-san JA7UDE)

 - added 38400 and 57600 to the Baud selector (tnx to Joe W4TV)

 - named the selector in the lower-left corner Group

 - modified the contents of the Group selector:

*** renamed the previous Yaesu HF? (FT-1000MP,...) entry to Yaesu FT
 1000D, 1000MP, 920

*** renamed the previous Yaesu VU? (FT-736,FT-847) entry to Yaesu FT
 736,
 817, 847, 857, 897

 *** added a Yaesu FT 9000, 2000, 950, 450 entry (tnx to Joe W4TV and Art
 W2NRA)

*** renamed the previous Kenwood entry to Kenwood, Elecraft (tnx to
 Joe
 W4TV)

 - renamed the Commands panel's VFO Polling selector to Model, and
added entries for the Yaesu FT 9000, 2000, 950, and 450 (tnx to Joe W4TV)

 3. Other notes
 ==

 A. As before, changes made to settings shown in the Radio Command and
MMTTY Setup windows do not take effect until the window is closed by
 clicking its OK button.

 B. On Vista, log into the account named Administrator before installing or
 running MMTTY

 C. the updated online help was developed by Joe W4TV with help from AL
 VE4ABU

 C. 1.66F is a software-only upgrade, meaning that you must already have
MMTTY installed. I will develop an installer for use with PCs that don't
 yet
have MMTTY installed. If you want to install 1.66F on a PC that doesn't
 yet
have MMTTY installed, first install version 1.65D, and then upgrade as
 described below.

 D. To upgrade an existing MMTTY installation to 1.66F, download the zip
 archive from

 http://www.dxlabsuite.com/MMTTY/mmtty166F.zip

The archive mmtty166F.zip contains two files:

 mmtty.exe

 and

 1.66F.txt

Place mmtty.exe in your MMTTY folder, replacing the existing file, and
 then
 run it.

The file 1.66F.txt contains a copy of this release note.

 Gary,

I also noticed on MMTTY site that it says that it does NOT support
Vista. So you might need to use something else, DM780 or MixW..

I believe that it has been pointed out that those people who are interested
in multiband image compensation for the SDR1K do not expect an automated
procedure but would do it manually. A signal for every band should be
 available for most of us.

 Christos,

Since the 1K does not have the ability to generate a signal to use as an
image calibration marker, that you have the test gear there to do
this? Which is lucky for you, but for those that don't, multi band
 image calibrations are not possible..

 Excellent questions.

The split waterfall/panadapter feature is very nice. We appreciate Jeff
taking the initiative to continue to innovate useful features like this.
Unfortunately, about the same time, we were incorporating RX2 support.
 The
conflicts between what were added to support RX2 and the existing
Pan/Waterfall code were unfortunately too far beyond reconciling to get
 into
the official release easily. This feature is definitely slated for 1.13.x
versions. Input is welcome on this ... especially with regard to how to
handle RX2 and the split display options.

As for the appearance controls, we would like to find a way to handle the
changes in a more automated fashion so that we don't have to manually
 change
those functions each time controls are added/removed. That maintenance
 really adds up over time.

 Hello,

I was just curious as to why the added features of the K6JCA SVN release
such as the split waterfall/panadapter, and the ability to change the
coloring of the overall GUI have not been added to the trunk? It has been
out for many months now, and I prefer to use this release due to it being
easier on the eyes after long hours of use after adjusting the appearence
 to
something that I like. However, many other features of course have been
added to the trunk, so I am starting to miss out on somethings.

Hello All.,

I have been using my SDR-1000's for several years and they are still the
most fun I have ever had in 31 years of amateur radio.

I have one ongoing request. I wish your code guru's would spend some time to
develop a mode specific AM noise blanker/noise reduction system.

I'm not only an avid short wave broadcast listener like many of you but I
also use the AM mode daily. Every time I switch to sideband and click on the
noise blanker I'm green with envy.

Please consider my request in the near future. I'm sure I speak for many
others that would enjoy AM much more if it had less noise. Thanks in
advance.

No new physical radio, per se. When you match the new VR code with the
FLEX-5000 and the SDR-1000, you will have new software defined radios that
are going to be very different from what you have today with PowerSDR 1.x.
That is what was promised to have running for Dayton 09. In the software
defined domain of programmers, the hardware is not really the radio, it is
just a source and destination for I/Q data streams for some black box to
 make RF out of.

[Flexradio] HamScope and TTY with VAC

2008-07-07 Thread Dennis Petrich
Dear Abby,

I'm not hearing voices anymore when monitoring PSK31 thanks to you-alls
comments yesterday. But I have one more problem I'll need you-alls help to
solve

I'm using HamScope with MMTTY's RTTY engine and when I select RTTY in HamScope
the signal goes away (the tace in the Hamscope window goes flat-line). Looks
like the Virtual Audio Cable connection gets broken every time I select RTTY.
If I select any other mode everything works just fine...so what am I doing
wrong?

I noticed HamScope software allows you to make VAC connections but the MMTTY
engine I saw doesn't? Hope this isn't one of those catch 22's?

Thanks in advance for your help, Dennis, k0eoo

Subject: RE: [Flexradio] How to PTT in Digital modes?

 Dennis,

Most sound card interfaces have a connection to a serial port for PTT
control using the DTR and/or RTS handshaking lines to key the rig. In the
SDR world, we use a virtual serial port program like K8VB's vCOM (it is
free) to set up a pair of virtual serial ports. Point the digital mode
program at one of the ports of the pair, point PowerSDR to the other,
 like
magic, you are keying the rig with no wires!

So, to use digital modes with PowerSDR, you need 2 separate 3rd-party
programs to make it work in addition to yoiur didgtal mode program
PowerSDR: 1.) you need VAC to pipe the audio between the digital mode
program PowerSDR, 2.) you need vCOM (or another virtual serial port
 program) for PTT control.

[Flexradio] I'm hearing voices in my PSK31 monitor mode???

2008-07-06 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello all,

You guys won't believe this but I'm hearing a voice when I'm in PSK31 mode
using he Hamscope software with my SDR-1000/FA-66 combo... I'm using the vCOM
to PTT the rig and VAC to get the audio to/from the SDR. Everything seems to
be working just great in receive and all other modes!!

I couldn't believe it my self. I hear what sounds like a female voice
saying five every 5 seconds or so when I'm transmitting. I discovered it
when I decided I wanted to see of Monitor mode would allow me to hear my
PSK31 transmission and it does but I hear the VOICE I shut off the
monitor and I can still see the transmit panadapter display come up during the
time the VOICE would be saying five It's like there is something in
the transmit file.

I know this sounds crazy and I havn't been drinking, honest I haven't This
is not April 1's or October 31st so I don't know what to think

Has anyone experieiced this VOICE with their Digital mode operation???

This is a common occurrance. There are two ways to avoid the voices:
 1. send a check for one million dollars US to me via my qrz.com address
 2. buy a copy of VAC because the demo has a voice that comes on every
few minutes that says its a demo.

I would suggest #1 but #2 is more effective hi hi!
