Re: [Flexradio] RemAud
Another one to try is Fideliphone: http://www.fideliphone.com/ Uses the Opus codec and is fully adjustable. RemAud is ok, but doesn't include Opus, only GSM (ugh) and PCM linear encoding. I always use PCM. I've also had issues with it not playing well with some pc apps in terms of sample rate sync. The biggest annoyance with Skype is it's not full duplex, and has some annoying automatic level behavior, even when it's supposedly disabled. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5000 remote operation
Fwiw, run remote 100% of the time, and use several things for different situations. For Remote Desktop access, I prefer Radmin, but also use VNC and LogMeIn. The latter two are mostly for work with my iPad and iPod Touch. For audio, primarily use IPsound, but also Skype, RemAud, and most recently Fideliphone. Have to use Skype with the iPad/Pod. Would love to have another audio alternative to Skype for those. Also have TeamViewer installed, but don't care for the audio. For traveling using hotel wifi and such it usually means Skype and LogMeIn to get thru firewalls. Gary W3AM Dave Movius wrote: Using Flex 5000 for local and remote operation. Re: [Flexradio] Yikes, I'm transmitting
Sheldon: FWIW, the 'dead man' timer relay I'm using now is one of these kits: http://www.electronickits.com/kit/complete/elec/ck1614.htm It can be set for any length you could possibly want. (I first used an old Allen Bradley octal TD relay I had at work, but that was kinda unwieldy). This relay in turn toggles one of the inputs on my Webswitch Plus that turns the power off to the radio's Astron PS. But, in 1-1/2 years of constant power up remote operation with my 3000 I've never had a PTT lockup, or any other oddball rig or PC behavior. But I wanted to put something together to make sure I never had a problem so I threw all this relay overkill jazz at it. Everything is on clean UPS and genset power, pretty safe from any power bumps. That's important. Re: [Flexradio] Yikes, I'm transmitting
FWIW, to protect my 3000 remote station I use a 'dead man' delay-on-operate relay which is triggered by the TX relay in the Flex (linear amp key). If the TX relay is closed for more than 5 minutes, the time delay relay pulls in and shuts the power off to the radio for 10 seconds, assuring QRT. This is done using a remote control outlet device: http://www.controlbyweb.com/webswitch/ Also use this to remotely power cycle the PSDR pc as well as the radio. So even if the pc hangs up, I still have control of the radio for the sake of compliance. g Edwin Marzan wrote: Would be nice for PowerSDR to include a timer that would prevent transmitting after a set time period. Re: [Flexradio] Question about remote operation
Hi Mark: FWIW, I use my 3000 exclusively remotely since I can't deploy antennas at the home condo. You're quite right that the panadaptor and other data rich display modes can be a real bandwidth hog. As a benchmark, using VNC for remote desktop access, the panadaptor eats up ~200-300kbps of outbound network bandwidth all the time, (PSDR display refresh at 30fps). I prefer to use Radmin at home, which provides a very nice looking display but at the cost of even more bandwidth, up to 1mbps depending on the refresh rate. You can slow down the refresh rate and reduce the bandwidth, but you pay for it with a jerky display. You might try the NetPerSec utility on your machine to monitor the bps network data flow in real time in and out so you can gauge how things move around when working remotely. Can be a real eye opener. I'm fortunate in that my radio is located at the end of some bonded T's at the office with lots of guaranteed outbound bandwidth and almost no other traffic on it at night & weekends, so it's not a problem for me while operating from home. When I'm traveling with my laptop I usually use VNC and Skype, for a typical total incoming bandwidth of ~300kbps. Most hotel web service seems to handle this ok, but in some bad places where audio breakup occurs I'll disable the panadaptor display and 'rough it' with just the S meter and freq display. No need for HRD to control the radio unless it does something else you want. Gary W3AM Mark Lunday wrote: Trying to run SDR and view the panadapter over the internet is quickly becoming a non-starter. Very graphics intensive.
