Re: [Flexradio] VISTA 64 -
There's a common thread here. Yes some are able to run SDR OS with Vista but many if not most are encountering problems. Rarely is any difficulties encountered with WINXP, SP3. Ergo the obvious answer is, don't use Vista. My personal experience is that Vista is a piece of crap and not worth the effort. Having come from a recent government position I can tell you that all GS and military are not going to use Vista. However, if you enjoy betting your heads against a wall, knock yourselves out, literally!! I'm surprised that Flex Radio doesn't step up and say Folks use XP. Don't use Vista. Seems like it would be an easy statement to make. [Flexradio] F5K, SDR and VAC
I'm wondering.I have VAC set up and it's working great! Both VAC 1 and 2 are set for (I'm doing this from another computer so I'm not sure of the exact numbers), 11025 - 92000. My question; has anyone experimented with expanding these numbers? i.e. 11025 - 192000 If this is doable, would increasing the margin be of any value? Re: [Flexradio] TX Audio Quality Help, please!
Maybe it's only the earlier F5K's that are having problems. In any case, I echo Ken's comments. I continually get rave reviews on the quality of the F5K's audio. I don't doubt for a moment that Jeff, K6JCA and others are experiencing audio quality problems. Obviously, I can only speak from the comments I've received when using my 5K. The only audio problem I've encountered is when running digital voice using FDMDV. That problem is centered on the internal crappy computer sound card I'm using, which I'm still working to resolve. (I've yet to discover a good internal sound card. Maybe the new ASUS) Just hate to spend $200+ just to find that it doesn't work any better. In any case, comparing the F5K to my Orion II; the F5K (in every way) outperforms the OII. Don't misunderstand. The OII is a very fine transceiver and performs well but not as well as the F5K. I realize this is a subjective comment. The only area where I think the OII is slightly better is with the custom AGC performance. The bottom line to all this is; buy the F5K. You are missing the proverbial boat if you don't! One of the best thing about it is, it just keeps getting better!! [Flexradio] Linux and PoweSDR
Greetings, I'm (attempting) to facilitate operation of v1.12.0 using a GNU/Debian OS (Ubuntu, PCLinux, Knoppix, SuSE and a couple of others) with Wine as an emulator. Needless to say, implementation results have been poor at best. I've had good luck with programs such as IP-Sound and a few others but not PowerSDR. I'm wondering if others have tried to do this? I've not tried any other emulator but occasionally see reference to VM. (It's not free and I'm cheap, so don't want to buy it)!! I know effort is afoot to create PowerSDR in language (Erlang, Lisp, et al) which will support cross platform operation. You're probably saying, "Just use XP and be happy! And, I am happy with this. Matter of fact, it works great. However, I can't leave well enough alone. So I'm off on exploration. Any thought? Re: [Flexradio] More bass from Flex 5000A on Rx
Harry, I use the Bose Companion III which has the subwoofer. Like Harry says, it is really dependent upon how you have your receive filter set. There have been times when I was adjusting the RX filter that the bass was overwhelming which, in my estimation, doesn't enhance receive capability. I guess it's just a matter of preference. All of that depends upon how low you have the receive filter set for as well. I do not know what you have yours set for, but I thought I would pass along that setting the receive filter to allow everything above 50Hz or even lower to pass through your RX1/RX2 could help. If you have already done that, then yes a subwoofer will definitely enhance your current bass response. You may find yourself, like me, adjusting the low end of the filter dependent upon who you are conversing with. 73, Mike W5CUL -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Harry Williams Sent: Monday, June 30, 2008 11:01 AM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] More bass from Flex 5000A on Rx I have my Flex 5000a hooked to a pair of Bose companion II speakers. Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 38, Issue 13
Another thing I'm noticing in V1.12.0 is when I see a detected signal in the pan adapter, I'm also seeing a mirror image of the same signal either up or down frequency by about 10KHz. When tuning to these signals they sometimes merge but not always. Sometimes they can be detected at different frequencies making it difficult to determine as to what frequency they are actually transmitting. I've not noticed this anomaly with other releases. Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR 1.12.0
Dudley, After closing the latest release and going back to svn 2224, then closing 2224 and going back to PowerSDR, 1.12.0 the problem went away. Makes no sense to me! Anyway all is working well. Still have a little relay chatter but not as bad as what I encountered with 2224. I'm sure Eric is aware of the relay chatter problem and I will continue to evaluate. I will be installing RX2 either this afternoon (UPS says out for delivery), or tomorrow. Once it is all configured and if I continue to hear the relay chatter, I will then submit a Bug Report (albeit a minor bug). Having spent my entire career working hardware and software problems, I understand how elusive some bug issues can be. I know it's an understatement but so far, all is looking very good indeed. Re: [Flexradio] Windows Vista
MS will soon release its (so called) final release which is labeled SP3. This has already been released to government and some commercial agencies. As you are probably aware there are so many problems within Vista that government agencies will not incorporate it into any networked facilities. Even Vista test computers (stand Alone) are few and far between. I have a brand new never opened Visa Premium OS and although I've looked at on a standalone computer, will not use this on my home LAN. Definitely not interested in fighting use with SDR or any station control SW. Not sure if MS is going to spend much time trying to fix some of the many Vista problems. I do know they are working on a new package code named Windows 7. This reminds me of the ME episode. (Another piece of c..p) All in all this is another reason to give a lot of attention to Linux. The nice thing about Linux is there are stable emulators that allow you to run MS products (Office etc), if you choose. For those of you who are afraid of making the change, UBANTU is a great place to start. Very user friendly and all GUI driven, all free! Also, with Flex Radio currently programming SDR in Erlang, I suspect we will soon have SDR available for at least the 5000 series. Personally, I'm looking forward to that! As you may know, when you buy Vista you can "downgrade" to a license of XP and I am not sure what that policy will mean in terms of end of selling XP (can you still downgrade after June 2008?).
