Hi, I dont have this font. But since its not part of the runtime and the binary
runtime works where the gentoo specific one does not I had discounted this.

I found a font cld arielbd.ttf renamed it and dropped it in. I dont know if this
should work, but it didnt. Other than that, if someone can send me it off list or
tell me where to get it I'll give it a try.

Although I'd think it should work without as Dischi says. Dischi, do you run Gentoo
with KEYWORDS='x86' ie unstable. If not, and you tell me wich packages maybe related,
perhaps I could downgrade a few packages and try to see where our systems differ.

[Freevo-users] RE: G400 progressive scan

2003-06-29 Thread pjernstr
 I would like to know if it's possible to have a progressive scan
output  on tv ?

Sorry, but generally, no.

To run progressive scan (non-interlaced) video on a standard tv is not
possible. It is a limitation of the old tv-tech, and can thus not be
fixed just by putting in a modified signal. Computer monitors, and in
most cases everything that has a VGA or DVI connector (projectors,
flatpanels, plasma,etc.), support full frame draw.

More on progressive scan on:

There are several howtos

however, with pre4 runtime, all you need to do is change the output to
dxr3 in the freevo.conf file, if I am correct. That isn't including the
kernel support you need to do. Do a google search for that, or follow
the link in the freevo docs.

If that doesn't work for you, I will try to help more. I'm at work
right now so I can't do too much.

[Freevo-users] digital audio with via onboard sound?

2003-06-29 Thread Eric Jorgensen

Thought I'd ask here - because the mini-itx boards use via audio,
someone might have researched this already, or even tried something.

My freevo system, mostly used to play back preencoded media, is based
on a microatx motherboard that has integrated via audio. To date, I've
been using the analog output from an SB Audigy card, and I've never
tried the via sound - though i know the drivers at least load.

My motherboard - Biostar M7VIG-Pro - has an undocumented s/pdif header.
I got to thinking about that last night, and discovered that the M7VIG-D
board has it *documented, and that there's a dongle available for the
board with optical and coaxial output.

And furthermore, that NewEgg has said dongle offered at $8usd with free
shipping and a free $6 translucent yellow Biostar pen. Clutching my
already prized translucent yellow Biostar pen in my hands, I pecked out
some orders, and expect my dongle and a cheap toslink cable off ebay to
arrive some time this week. And another pen.

Has anybody tried using the digital-out of some of the miniitx C3
boards? Should be the same setup as my board.

I can't find much information about this at all. Also, more
importantly, is it possible to simply transmit an AC3 stream through the
digital output of the via audio system? and, how? I'm already using alsa
for pretty much everything.

Thanks.

Yes. You have to use ALSA drivers, check out the installation details at
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=294#md . There are issues with some of the
newer releases of ALSA (stuttering sound), but if you go for the exact
release in the README - you will be safe. I use ALSA 0.9.0rc6 myself...

Disclaimer: I haven't tested AC3 support yet. It's somewhere at the bottom
of my To-Do-list :-)

   I can't find much information about this at all. Also, more
 importantly, is it possible to simply transmit an AC3 stream through the
 digital output of the via audio system? and, how? I'm already using alsa

It should be possible to simply relay the AC3 stream over the SPDIF (IEC
958). I haven't done it myself but I have seen posts about it at the VIA
Arena forum...

   Thanks.

I have the microsoft wenfonts, I have also asked a friend to look on his windows
system, the closest I can come is arialbd.ttf. I dont know if this is the same font
or not.

I could just use the binary runtime. I can live with that. Unless it is beneficial
to others to look for this font so as to prove where the Gentoo problem is.

[Freevo-users] Freevo 1.3.2 is out

2003-06-29 Thread Dirk Meyer
Hi,

the subject says it all. Here the Changelog:

 * Plugin interface
  * Converted some functions into plugins
  * detach plugin to listen to music in the background
  * IMDB search and XML generation plugin
  * Album cover search plugin
  * IMDB Info plugin
 * New skin engine
 * Reactivated and fixed GUI code
 * Bugfixes
 * Added experimental support for tvtime (= 0.9.8.3) for TV viewing.
   tvtime supports Xvideo, directfb, and mga_vid with good deinterlacing,
   smoother picture, better audio sync, OSD and reduced CPU usage when
   compared to Mplayer for TV viewing.
 * Support for more formats in the Image Viewer
 * Daylight Saving Time fixes
 * Shout/Icecast playback/bookmarks
 * Preliminary TV Recording schedule editor
 * Web radio support
 * Major cleanup of old files in the source tree
  * Converted some very large PNG files into high quality JPEGs
  * Removed obsolete data
 * many other things :-)

Because we had some problems with the runtime, dxr3 and dfbmga support
is removed from the runtime. We think we you can patch your kernel,
you can also patch SDL yourself :-)

Report bugs here or at #freevo on irc.gnu.org

The binary release is also now available. This contains the runtime and
 dependencies.

[Freevo-users] navigation issue

2003-06-29 Thread skeeterskip
I just installed Freevo 1.3.2 and noticed something.
When navigating through menu with remote when i click
on music, music folder appears. Normally i just hit
play on remote and it takes me to next area. However
it does not work for me and I have to hit enter on
keyboard to go to next area. I have same issue with
all other areas such as Images,Movies, etc. Everything
else I can navigate with remote without problem. I
have Streamzap remote.

correction: I can access TV Guide folder with remote.
The others I cannot. The Games one I don't have
directory setup for, so I'm not sure about it.

Re: [Freevo-users] Sigma Designs,Inc. REALmagic Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder

2003-06-29 Thread Justin Wetherell
Ok, I got it working (sort of) but the TV screen is in shades of green.
I fooled around with the module options when loading em8300 and such but
still nothing. Any suggestions?

Stefan Strandberg wrote:

There are several howtos

however, with pre4 runtime, all you need to do is change the output to
dxr3 in the freevo.conf file, if I am correct. That isn't including
the kernel support you need to do. Do a google search for that, or
follow the link in the freevo docs.

If that doesn't work for you, I will try to help more. I'm at work
right now so I can't do too much.

[Freevo-users] nVidia problems!! XF86Config file or something else is keeping me froma working FREEVO

2003-06-29 Thread borealis3

I've got a nVidia GeForce4 MX440-SE, which is
supposed to work fine w/ Freevo and TV. The driver is loaded, but whenever I
start with this command:

startx -- :0 -screen Screen_tvout800 vt7

It comes back with (among other
things):
*
(EE) NVIDIA(0): No modes remaining for display
device TV-0(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***(EE) Screen(s) found,
but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:no screens
found
*

I'm running Redhat 9, and I'm using Freevo
1.3.2

PLEASE - If you know anything about this driver,
etc., please lemme know what I can do to get this working!

Here's the pertinent info from my XF86Config file.
There's other stuff, but I *think* this is the relevant stuff.
