Only some small bugfixes between rc4 and this release. Please read the
new installation help site how to install Freevo.

And we now also have a plugin and skin download page. Feel free to
upload your own plugins and skins here (big thanks to Jan Grewe for
setting this up). Please make sure you have permission to upload the
skin/plugin if you use images and something else from other people.

Packers, please update your distro specific files (Debian, SuSE)

[Freevo-users] Problem solved

2003-11-21 Thread Peter Svensson
Hi. I installed the spanking new 1.4 by way of install script yesterday
evening.

As it turns out I RTFM'ed only sparingly.

I happened to store all my media under /usr/local/freevo.

Well, as of yesterday evening I don't. 48GB gone on a whoosh.

I don't mean to be sniffling and blowing my handkerchief and stuff :) I'm a
big boy, but take heed, younsters, to remove all valuable data to a save
place before installing.

So there.

I'm sorry for you loss, but your sacrifice was not waste. I just
updated the installer to remove only the Freevo stuff from the

This still happens if you put your movies under src/, runtime/, i18n/
or contrib/, but I don't think this is the case.

Agree.
Try experimenting with the autosync option.

Also, does -framedrop degrade the movie experience (I'm
not a huge a/v'phile, but I don't want my movies to look crappy).

framedrop drops frames (not key-frames) if needed.
hardframedrop does the same thing, but doesn't care if it is a
key-frame or not.

framedrop degrades quality, but not as much as hardframedrop.
I prefer some framedropping to a/v sync-problems.

Re: [Freevo-users] streamzap remote

2003-11-21 Thread Davin Desborough
First, the simple question are you running on a custom kernel? I believe
you will have to compile your own kernel for lirc to compile, at least I did
on RH9 (I am no linux guru, so this may not apply to all distros).

If you are all set on the kernel side, then you probably need to manually
edit a file. I'll have to look more on this, but what I think I ended up
doing was taking a recent version of lirc (as of a couple months ago),
running the patch (which failed near the end), and then manually completing
the patch by editing a lirc file to add a Streamzap entry.

Anyway, I'll reconstruct my steps and let you know.

2003-11-21 Thread Joe Stump
These are my steps

1.) Path (everything returns OK here)
2.) ./setup.sh (select streamzap driver)
3.) Select Exit Run Configure
4.) make

It failes on make ... doh. I'm at work no - I'll send more detailed error
messages later tonight. Thanks for the help!

--Joe

 You're doing a ./configure first yeah?

What messages is it giving when it fails?

Anyone out there actually get this working with lirc? I've attempted
patching against current cvs and two different snapshots (0.7 pre1
 and
pre2) and I can't get *any* of them working. Anyone got a
  patched/working
source tree that they could tar up and send over? :)

[Freevo-users] Gentoo rsync-freevo

2003-11-21 Thread Chris Graham
I just did a fresh install of gentoo and there is a couple of problems with
the rsync-freevo script.

1. xine-lib-1_rc0-r3.ebuild was not unmasked
2. xine-ui00.9.22.ebuild was not unmasked
3. xmltv was not marked as a dependency of freevo so it was not installed.
can someone update the rsync-freevo script?

[Freevo-users] How to use Freevo with digital cable and/or satellite?

2003-11-21 Thread timwilhoit
Can I control my digital cable or satellite from Freevo? I haven't seen any digital
receivers in PCI form yet. I suppose you could have Freevo control the external
receiver via IR. Has anyone done this? I really don't want to go back to analog.

If I do go with analog and plug it directly into my Freevo box. Can you record one
channel while watching another? A brief explanation of how this works would be
appreciated. Does the card have the ability to read multiple frequencies at one time
from the analog input?

RE: [Freevo-users] How to use Freevo with digital cable and/or sa tellite?

2003-11-21 Thread Gray, Tim
lirc has the ability to output IR commands. a simple modification of the
mencoder script to blast the channel number out is possible.

watch one and record another? same limitation as before, digital
cable/sattelite doesnt give any extra capabilities except that you CANT
watch digital cable while recording it as the freevo is using your digital
cable box unless you rent another box from the cable company.

now if freevo had the built in ability to switch mencoder commands from the
regular tuner command to a custom command to send the IR command and record
from the line-in instead, things would be easier.

I.E. channel# is setpoint.. use mencodercommand2 for all recording.
although this would miss the scrambled lower channels that are descrambled
by the box. maybe a channellist? if the channel# is = to the use_box number
then use mencodercommand2?

just a thought.

[Freevo-users] sb live (emu10k) record

2003-11-21 Thread Scott Serr
I've had to use ALSA in the past to get my SB Live to record. Is this
well known, is there a way to get the kernel/OSS emu10k driver to
record? I am able to get sound if I turn igain above 0, but the
recording sounds over driven and crackly.

ALSA seems (from my memory) to not have these problems. I just hate
adding ALSA modules every time I do a new kernel. I know 2.6 has ALSA
built in. Is anyone doing 2.6-test with Freevo and mga framebuffer?

Thanks for any info,
-Scott

There are some other problems. Like xmltv should be optional in the USE
flag, and the only xmltv available right now in .ebuild for is too old
to be of use. I had to roll my own last night xmltv-0.5.23. I won't
keep going on about xmltv.

Others:
1. pylirc
2. eject
Would be nice to have so you didn't find out you needed/wanted them at
runtime.

I think that gentoo is still probably the easiest path to getting freevo
running with the right dependencies.

[Freevo-users] Having trouble getting games working.

2003-11-21 Thread Shane Crosby
I attempted to send this message once before, but it never showed up to the
archives. I apologize if people are getting this twice.

My problem is that I can't figure out to get the games menu to show up.

Firstly, where is the games menu supposed to be? Is it shown on the main
menu with Movies and Music?

I think I figured out how to configure DIR_GAMES:

DIR_GAMES = [ ('Atari 2600', '/data/videogame-roms/atari/',
('GENERIC', '/home/maccroz/downloads/stella/stella.sdl',
 '-fullscreen 1', '', [ 'bin' ])) ]
It does not flag any errors.

I have several ROMS in my atari folder, yet I don't see any games menu.

Is there anything else I need to do to get games to work such as activating
a plugin?

Thanks Again!

Note: Someone suggested I try '.bin' instead of 'bin'. That did not seem
to work.

[Freevo-users] Customizing web interface...

2003-11-21 Thread StormeRider
Is it possible to easily customize the web interface to show more
information on the Scheduled Recordings page? Mainly I'm looking to see
if I can get the episode title listed there. I have Stargate SG-1 as a
favorite (great show), but I have the DVD sets for seasons 1-4. Not a
whole lot of point recording an episode that I already have on DVD.

It'd also help when the summary information isn't available.
