Hello, is it possible that freevo use an other socket for the lircd? Is it a freevo or a pylirc "problem", that /dev/lircd is choosen? Background: I've a ltsp diskless system in the kitchen, on which runs freevo from my server. I reinstalled Freevo recently and I'm having trouble getting mpeg decoding working. In the past I would just do: VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER = 'xine -V xxmc' and it would work. Now there a new setting: VIDEO_USE_XVMC = 1 which I've tried in combination with both: VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER = 'xine -V xxmc' and VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER = 'xine' all without any luck. Decoding is working fine outside of Freevo as: xine -V xxmc movie.mpg works fine. Any thoughts? -Chris -- Enter the BlackBerry Developer Challenge This is your chance to win up to $100,000 in prizes! [Freevo-users] xxmc
What is the correct setting to get Freevo to use xxmc? X.org loads xxmc, but when I play a video using either Xine or MPlayer, neither one uses xxmc. I've tried forcing xxmc in the Xine config, setting my default freevo movie player in local.py to xine -V xxmc and setting xxmc in the xine settings in local.py all with no luck. Any suggestions? -Chris - This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event. There's still time to save $100. Re: [Freevo-users] Flash-based (or Diskless) Freevo Frontends...
I'm running Freevo from a 1GB compact flash card. I have an epia me6000 that runs Debian. The epia has mpeg decoding, which is very nice. I nfs mount the freevo cache, freevo log and my media for playback. I've also disabled most of the logging to save on writes. The cf card hasn't failed in 3 years, so I'm happy. The cf card is half full (516MB). Totally silent. The next step is to eliminate X (using framebuffer) and net boot the whole system. -Chris On Jan 7, 2008 10:43 PM, Michael Brown <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Folks! > > Curious if anyone has done a disk-less or flash-based Freevo strictly for > viewing materials. Re: [Freevo-users] Start freevo twice with two xorg layouts
Okay, now I'm a bit closer to the problem. It seems there is a lirc problem. If I start freevo for the projector (keyboard, no lircrc) and then the other for the touchscreen, everything works fine. I can navigate with the keyboard or with the remote. With the other order, only the keyboard works for the projector. The remote seems to be blocked. Should work fine for now, but I will try to setup a second remote for the projector... I attached four logs, with my tests. tft_after_bea.main-1001/2.log which works and bea_after_tft.main-1001/2.log where the remote not respond. Thank you. Re: [Freevo-users] Freevo box over Compact Flash.
I'm running Freevo off of a CF card and so far I like it. I don't have a tuner, so I just use it for video playback and photos. Having it be completely slient is great. I'm mounting both the data and parts of the system via NFS. A better approach is to use a ram disk. You want to minimize writes the CF card, so either use a ram disk or write logs, temp files, freevo cache, etc... somewhere else. I'm running Gentoo on a 512MB card. It's mounting portage so I can still add software if I need to. One tip, to reduce the long boot time when booting from a CF card, boot with the kernel option ide=nodma. -Chris On 11/16/06, Ignacio - <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi to everybody! [Freevo-users] sending a key command using lirc
I'm using Xine for movie playback in Freevo and I'm having a problem with Xine-lib 1.1.2-r2. The audio is not in sync with the video. It's a known bug and hopefully it will be fixed soon. Gentoo removed older versions of Xine-lib from portage, so I have to live with this until it gets fixed by the Xine developers, short of compiling Xine myself. However, I can press the m key several times when the movie is playing to correct this. Pressing m adjusts the a/v offset. Does anyone know a way to either start Xine with a particular a/v offest setting or to map a button on my creative IR remote to emulate the pressing of the m key? Re: [Freevo-users] Best standalone Freevo solution.
I did some digging and I think I'm going to use Pebble Linux as the base for my stand-alone epia/freevo machine. http://www.nycwireless.net/pebble If I can put it all together by complining a new kernel, installing the necessary packages, etc... it should be an imporvement. I also need to make sure that freevo's cache is saved on the nfs share. I played with iMedia MythTV Linux yesterday: http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/it.A/id.421/.f?sc=8&category=17 It's slick, but isn't exactly what I want to use due to the limited packages and hardware support. Re: [Freevo-users] Best standalone Freevo solution.
The key ingredient in my stand-alone freevo box is an EPIA ME6000 mini-itx motherboard. This board has mpeg2 decoding built-in, so dvd playback will be smooth without any additional hardware. The next step is storage. Where will you save the system and where will you save your media. I chose to save my media on a seperate file server, thus eliminating the amount of noise coming from my freevo box. I then installed Gentoo along with Xorg, Freevo, Lirc, etc... on it using a standard hard drive. I configured everything just the way I wanted it (including booting straight into Freevo). http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/doc/BootFreevo I then copied the image of the hard drive to a compact flash card. Using a CF-IDE adapter I was able to boot directly from the card and mount my media over the network. My setup isn't perfect, but I'm waiting for Freevo 2.0 until I make any big changes. Using Debian and mounting the system read-only would be 2 improvements. You can follow Karl's advice and use a fancy bootsplash to get add some eye candy. Also, check out Freepia: http://freepia.shaibn.com Hope this helps. -Chris On 9/11/06, Karl Lattimer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Ashley, > > You mentioned pretty boot process; > > http://www.bootsplash.org/ > > Try that, suse have been using it for a while, you can do things like > animations (fbmngplay) and progress bars using it, and its not as bulky > as RHGB. > > as far as hardware is concerned a good UK provider is > > https://linitx.com/ > > I could probably help out with building a distribution especially for > freevo... Re: [Freevo-users] Best standalone Freevo solution.
I've setup a freevo media pc that runs locally off of a 512MB CF card using a mini-itx Via Epia board. It boots, logs in, mounts a nfs network share and starts freevo automatically. I've been running it for over a year now, and so far no problems. When Freevo 2.0 comes out I'm planning to make some additional improvements like mounting the system read-only and making updates easier. I'm not using a Matrox card, so I can't help you with that. -Chris On 8/18/06, Ashley Dawkins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > > Hi, one thing about Freevo is that there are many ways to achieve the same > result. [Freevo-users] some dvb questions: How to config TV channels with no epg data (TV.xml), How to configure two record tv cards (dvb,pvr250) ?
Hi freevo users, I bought a cheap dvb card (twinhan) and it works fine so far. I fetch the xml epg data every night and replace the old TV.xml automatically. I want to configure the TV module with more channels than in the TV.xml is included (some channels don't have epg entries). Is there a simple solution or have I to insert the channels in the TV.xml everyday and local_config manually ? second question: I own now the pvr250 for analog tv and the dvb-s for digital recordings. I want to record with both cards and configure the recordserver, webserver and freevo record scheduler with both cards. Each time I select a recording I want to choose the specific card or the card should be automatically recognized if the channel is only configured for one card. Is this already possibly with freevo (and video groups) or possible in future time ? third question: I noticed that mplayer has a great osd menu (has to be configured in menu.conf). With a dvb-mplayer config I can watch dvb-s live and also switch the channels with lirc or the keyboard (h,k) and ofcourse I have a dvb channel menu with the osd menu. last Question: If I watch TV and the recording starts, will freevo automatically close the TV live program and start recording ? BTW live watching and recording on the same transponder and different polarisation is possible and would be nice. thanx for answers, Thomas PS: I noticed that vdr will be the better one for dvb, but I have a budget card and want to use it for recordings and sometimes watching tv. Freevo is now nice at my box and well configured - I don't want to change to vdr or use the plugin (and the softmpeg output plugin is in development status). myconfig: XP1700, 384MB Ram (DDR266), KT266 Board (matx) Matrox G400 framebuffer tvout twinhan dvb-s VisionDTV Plus Hauppauge PVR250 SB Live with digital I/O extension for optical digital output to my yamaha amp 2 samsung harddisk (120 GB,160 GB) 1 seagate system harddisk (80 GB) Kernel 2.4.27 (v4l2, i2c patched) with latest stable dvb modules --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? [Freevo-users] Freevo hangs if started during boot
Hi, Freevo 1.5 has a problem when started during the boot process. I run Gentoo and 1.4.1 was always start in Runlevel 3 but after I updated to 1.5-rc1 or later, starting from a Runlevel does not work anylonger. It hangs on the "Starting Freevo, please wait..." and in main-0.log I can read this entries as the last one that are written: ... osd.py (227): trying alternate: verabd.ttf osd.py (221): Couldnt load font "arial_bold.ttf" osd.py (227): trying alternate: verabd.ttf __init__.py (216): Building the xml hash database... __init__.py (245): done And than, I can wait for ages it does not do anything ... Re: [Freevo-users] Re: Passing mplayer-options through an fxd-file
Ok, just looking for help in the list and didn't find any I created a mplayer option for my movie on my own. I get it to work with a movie file, maybe this helps also for streams. I'm also interested in importing some internet live video streams. So I used the option in the fxd file as described on the wiki website. test.mpg Don't use special characters directly in the fxd files and read the freevo main log files for errors. I noticed that it doesn't work with german umlauts. On Thursday 01 April 2004 12:02, Berni wrote: > Noone having an idea on this one? [Freevo-users] crash of my G400 mga framebuffer freevo 1.4.1 after long run (no actions), how to debug/analyze this error/reason ?
Hi, I've a strange problem: freevo runs with mga and framebuffer very stable but sometimes: In the last weeks my freevo hangs after running for many hours (>6h) doing nothing within freevo. Yesterday the main menu screen was corrupted and no input on the console possible (keyboard locked). My Linux runs, but maybe the framebuffer has crashed or freevo locks my keyboard. Logging from the network let me kill freevo and other processes but there is no way (for me) to get the framebuffer console back. Rebooting is the only solution. How can I find the reason for this behaviour. I suppose it could be my acpi (apm) but I'm not sure because the time varies till I got the "crash" or keyboad lock and I have no special apm configured. Inspecting the log files doesn't give me hint. So my questions: How to debug and analyze this problem before and after I reboot How can I restore my framebuffer/keyboard input without rebooting ? How to send freevo event from the network to exit freevo clean (lirc and keyboard are probably locked) ? Re: [Freevo-users] matrox 450 or 400.
I'm owner of both cards. At the time I bought the G400 there was no way to get the tvout (second head) of my older(!earlier bought) G450 to work on the console. There are now kernel patches to get it working. But the development of the G400 tvout is in my opinion in a further progress and easier to configure. The tvout-cable has a different pinout and the RAMDAC also is more complex of the G400 (second head) to get more modes separatly from the first head to work. I'm very pleased with the stability. There are different ways to get freevo to run with the cards (directfb and framebuffer mga mode). So if speed is not so important (for games or 3D-development) and only to get a multimedia box to work I would recommend the G400 - passive cooled with 32MB Ram. (if it will work on a newer board). The voltage of the pci-card should not be the problem and the AGP-Mode should also work on newer boards (maybe not on all). I'm running the G400 on a Gigabyte VKML (Via KT266) flawless. The great advantages are the quality of the tvout and the stability and development of newer drivers/software. (Take also a look to www.directfb.org). So at the end the G400 is more flexible than the G450. But if the G450 works now fine (I don't know if it is so) with the new kernel patches and is once correctly configured for freevo it seems also to be a stable working solution. The speed differences of both cards for video playback are minimal but the capabilities of the tvout on the G400 are much better. I'm interested in other opions of users who are working with a G450/G550 and their experiences with the tvout. In fact, It'd be really handy for me to have a "search IMDB" item for folders, ie: search on the folder name, and use the grabbed image and info to display with the folder, as is done with movie files. I tried playing with the folder.fxd file, and adding a .fxd the same name as the folder (with and without using "freevo imdb [#] ...") [Freevo-users] mplayer backend: How to switch/select an audio track from dual audio movie (divx, svcd) ?
Hi to all freevo users, a little question: How can I change/select the audio track from a dual audio stream movie (divx, mpg, svcd) using mplayer as playback program ? I know that the current version doesn't support switching the audio track on the fly but how can I select the audio track before playing the movie or is it possible to remember the movie position and start the eg divx movie from this position with a new mplayer call and a different audio track id (-aid x). This feature must be integrated and I want to use it with a lirc command and my remote because I'm not using a keyboard. thanks for answers, Thomas --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program. [Freevo-users] wish/idea: mailwatch idlebar mbox -> convert to local rdf source to read email header/sender/subject at tv
Hello, I want to read some more informations from my local mbox file. I use the mailwatch idlebar plugin: I fetch my mails with getmail through a stunnel-connection from my provider and put it to a local mbox. So I want to read the header infos (sending adress, subject) to decide weather I should read the whole mail at my home computer or not. My idea: Feed the mbox to a local rdf source to the local webserver to read it in the newsticker/headlines plugin. Does anybody know how to convert the mbox to rdf/rss ? I think it is a great idea and should be no problem (instead of writing a whole read mail plugin). thanks, Thomas --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program. [Freevo-users] hwac3 (sb live pass through) option auto detection or switch/falling back during playback possible ?
Hello freevo fans, my problem: I've spent my sb live an Hoontech I/O III extension with optical digital out. Passing through with mplayer to my ac3 receiver and the -ac hwac3 options works fine, if the audio stream of the movie is an ac3 track. But if I enable the options permanently in local_conf.py, I get no sound from avi movies with non ac3 tracks (eg. lame mp3 encoded ones). So I'm wondering if there is a solution for my problem. My Ideas: Some options should be configurable in the freevo frontend. Maybe a lirc command could change the option with my remote. Switching this during playback would be nice or maybe an auto detection by mplayer but this wouldn't be safe (I guess) - or fallback to non hwac3, when audio codec detection fails. Any ideas or solutions around ? thanks, Thomas my system: 1.7GHZ Athlon XP, Gigabyte matx board, 384MB dxr3,sb live with digital IO extension, Hauppauge WinTV Realmagic Remote (great one, I love this remote because it's flawless, great range and very handy) freevo 1.4, mplayer 0.92, using the dxr3 for tv out (selfcompiled sdl lib). Thanks so far, so I've to clean up my modules.conf and keep attention of the module install order. [Freevo-users] has anybody a clean modules.conf for btaudio, tvmixer, alsa (e.g. ens1371),em8300 with correct dsp mappings ?
Hello, I'm a little bit confused about tvmixer, alsa and btaudio: I've tried to force btaudio to specific dsp-devices with the modules options, but it doesn't work. So loading without snd-pcm-oss module leads btaudio to dsp0 (digital) and dsp1 (analog). If snd-pcm-oss is loaded it results into dsp1 and dsp3. What's the role of tvmixer-module ? (system message: tvmixer can't find mixer device if loading after btaudio). In my opion there is no clear dsp mapping and documentation. Is there a command to list all used dsp devices ? I want a clear definition of the dsp devices because the record server needs an dsp device (mencoder option) and this must be the digital dsp of btaudio when recording with the internal bttv dsp. (remember to all:do not forget to record only with 32000Hz - dsp limitation and using the digital dsp). It seems that the options given by modinfo btaudio are not working. Maybe this is the wrong discussion list (a alsa/bttv problem) but freevo needs a clean configuration and so many devices are common in an homevideo pc. The module em8300 doesn't need a dsp mapping but it would be fine. Hopefully I didn't run into a mess up with my pre/post install modules. So an working example posted would me help with options due to alsa, tvmixer, btaudio and alsa-oss. Of course it makes no sense to start the webserver within freevo but the option is there and this is a problem, because if you ran into this trouble the cause for the freevo crash isn't obviously. I've forgotten that I changed the server activation and so I wasted some hours of try and error. > Thomas, > > Dischi managed to narrow it down to the internal webserver. Re: [Freevo-users] dxr3 video problems (problem found) - Don't use www-server and dxr3 together
So that's the problem: it seems that the dxr3 output and the www-server plugin of freevo 1.3.4 doesn't work together. All video playback with mplayer starts with an error message and crash of freevo: > > VO: [dxr3] Error opening /dev/em8300_mv for writing as well! > > Bailing. > > VO: [dxr3] Uninitializing. deactivating the www-server solves the problem (no real solution, but the cause is found - fast post by me so no time to get the reason). My suspicion is the osd or the idle mode - maybe this should be solved because the www-server will become an essential feature to remote program the recording. Re: [Freevo-users] dxr3 video problems
Hello, Is this problem solved ? I was running into this trouble yesterday. I'm sure it's not a misconfiguration problem, because mplayer works fine without freevo and my last working backup (1.3.4) restored has the same problem. So what's the reason ? I can't backtrace the reason for this trouble. Any hint could be helpful, Thomas Am Donnerstag, 18. September 2003 09:10 schrieb Adam Stephens: > Hmm...it was working, until a couple days ago. Re: [Freevo-users] DXR3 problem & more
Hi Jerry and all HW+/DXR3 owners, yes, it's not simple to get the HW+ to work but with freevo 1.3.4 I succeeded after some pitfalls. I'm remembering the python game error and it frustated me. The key is a correct working patch version of the sdl lib (1.2.5). I downloaded the tarball freevo-1.3.4.tgz and compiled the sdl-library with the dxr3 patch as described. Python Game Module doesn't work with so far. BTW - have you configured the dxr3 correctly and works mplayer with tvout properly ? Step 2 after compiling was configuring these files (trivial) freevo.conf freevo_config.py local_config.py (instead of freevo_config) Don't forget to put the compiled sdl library in the runtime dll dir: libSDL. so my freevo.conf for europe pal (not complete): (the geometry param must be edited by hand) cdparanoia = ./runtime/apps/cdparanoia chanlist = europe-west display = dxr3 fbxine = /usr/local/bin/fbxine geometry = 720x576 jpegtran = ./runtime/apps/jpegtran lame = ./runtime/apps/lame mplayer = ./runtime/apps/mplayer oggenc = ./runtime/apps/oggenc tv = pal version = 2.1 xine = /usr/local/bin/xine local_config.py: maybe getting audio out from the HW+: AUDIO_DEVICE = '/dev/em8300_ma-0' I guess it's a not working sdl-library ! That's why I had some difficulties to get it to work but now I'm satisfied so far but pygame and mame/snes still not working! BTW I'm using SuSE 8.0 and I can mail you my working SDL or patched source tree. My hint get a proper compiled patched sdl lib and put it to the runtime dll dir and don't forget to set eg a symbolic link to it and rename/delete the distributed one. maybe your libavcodec.so lib isn't correct or too old because libSDL depends on it: runtime/dll: ./libSDL-1.2.so.0 libavcodec.so => /usr/lib/libavcodec.so (0x40089000) mplayer compiles that one or get it from the ffmpeg-site. My working one is the old libavcodec-0.4.6.so - (that's a hint to your error (afaik)): SDL dxr3 video driver w/ fame (0.1) or it could be the famelib http://sourceforge.net/projects/fame so I did it my way: compiled libfame / fame compiled ffmpeg compiled mplayer built the working sdl lib and putting it to the runtime/dll deleting the old one edited the config's in freevo roots and now I'm enjoying it but without the game module (it has not to be deactivated to get freevo run) Thomas BTW: oh there's a new one on the site ffmpeg.sourceforge.net (0.4.7) - I just have no time to test it. (First sorry to the moderator because I send him every mail twice :-) Just forgot to switch mail accounts) Hi, I cross-post this because it might be interessting for both lists: I finally tracked the problem with freevo and my setup down to the reason that the DVD´s weren´t recognized as DVD´s but as "unkown/unkown" (by mmpython) and so as a data disc. I cleared the cache of mmpython (rm -rf /var/cache/freevo/mmpython/*) and now my DVD is really a DVD :) ( video/dvd MEDIA: Status=4 Posting IDENTIFY_MEDIA event ) Another problem exists in xine.py (src/video/plugins): Around line 192 there is: if DEBUG: print 'Xine.play(): Starting thread, cmd=%s' % command Freevo crashes with DEBUG because "command" has no assignment. This happens a few lines later reading: command = self.command so fix it with: rc.app(self) command = self.command if DEBUG: print 'Xine.play(): Starting thread, cmd=%s' % command Just my 2 cents ;-) Happy DVD watching! -- ---- ,yours Thomas Zangl [EMAIL PROTECTED] -TZ1-6BONE- -http://tzi.dhs.org - http://www.borg-kindberg.ac.at Use YAMC! now! Re: WHOAA! (was Re: [Freevo-users] record_daemon error - summer time..)
hi paul! works fine for me too.. thx, good work! t. Paul Sijben wrote: OK I have done some hacking in the code and now freevo works for me again (and I hope it stays that way when we go back to wintertime). I have attached the changed files. I have also adapted my script for getting tv listings to put the correct timezone in +format so it is now +0200 in my case and will get back to +0100 in the fall. some of the changes I have made include: -TV.xml-pickled now really is in UTC -freevo_record.lst is now in the localtime (including DST) and the time on the TV listing on the screen is now correct. -oh, yeah and the recordings start & end on time -- Thomas Osche [EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED] www.osche.com fingerprint: B5D5 6889 FB78 3F7C C505 942D CFDB 9688 072F 04C8 -- --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ValueWeb: Dedicated Hosting for just $79/mo with 500 GB of bandwidth! Re: [Freevo-users] Re: [XML] Problem getting TV guide from TV.xml
Hi! but there are quite some differences between your post and mine first as already someone mentioned the ( instead of the < then 1. is missing 2. u shouldnt use (channel id="1") (display-name lang="fr")TF1(/display-name) (icon)http://www.guidetele.com/img/chaine/tf1.gif(/icon) (/channel) for now when debuging 3. CST and not +0100 or + or what ever hope it helps cheers, thomas U-NeeK.. wrote: Nop, I tried with the "de" grabber, it does the same you just pasted, I changed my freevo_config.py to match the channels, (and redelete /tmp/TV.xml-* ...) It does the same, I have the channels but NO data loaded for them. I have no idea.
