We had a server hiccup, and the ZF community jabber chat server is 
currently offline.

In doing research for the chatroom I checked out a couple jabber 
libraries and I agree php wise there really is no good library out there 
that works nicely on php5

Nod gaim can connect to IRC

We have needs beyond simple IRC which is part of the problem.

The ability to log and search those logs.

The ability to have private secure rooms for things like discussing the 
sandbox server, passwords and setup.


And then finally, while I love IRC, more people are familiar with and 
use IM.

You are better off going IRC. Why not just start a channel #zend_framework 
on freenode ? That way you will get a lot of other developers popping in / 
contributing and we can still chat in our other favorite channels like 
#lighttpd using just one client :)
