seem quite for a G3 upgrade to 400 MHz.

Re: Wallstreet pcmcia card

2005-08-29 Thread Lisa & Tom P

I just acquired a used ADS USB 2 port USB pcmcia card ( got it to enable a
USB mouse, and smart media card adapter)It came without instructions.
I plugged it in to the top slot, and a little empty box showed up on the
sccreen. I tried both an apple usb mouse and a usb card reader, but neither
showed up.. Then I pushed the tiny button over it and it ejected.
An hour later the Wallstreet crashed for the first time (seperate email
concerning)
Any help? thanks much!, Del

You might have to install the USB software. I cant remember where to
find it but I think its "USB Extensions 1.4.1" or something like that.

We have had this little beauty for a year - and without a problem, we only
use it for Quick Books in our family biz.
It just crashed to the extent it won't even shut off, (cursor is frozen and

no idea where the forced restart button (hole ) is...
Does it have one?
Other ideas?

owc lists two models, one is a g4/500 upgrade for $350 and the other
is a g3/500 upgrade for $200.

i'll likely do the processor upgrade, but can anyone tell me, is the
g4 worth $150 more than the g3? anyone have any experience or
knowledge?

thanks in advance.

Yup.

i should use SDRAM memory of 100Mhz or greater "PC 100", and use ram with

2-2-2 speed...

The wallstreets can use 66 Mhz Ram for either WS1 or WS2. Evidently
the Ram isnt clocked to 83 Mhz in the WS1, IIRC.

RAM for a WS is dead cheap these days on Ebay. Check out a seller
named "Ramdirect".

I just tried removing the power board and the machine refused to do
anything.

Since the logic board swap failed, I feel that leaves me with one of
two choices: The sound board or the power board. Which would be the
most likely suspect?

Well the machine won't run with out the power or sound board, I was
suggesting swapping for a known good one.

The machine is powering up (green light and fan running), so its
probably not the sound/AC board.

How important is the pram battery in the Wallstreet?
At $45 shipped and involved installation, how much
difference would it make for a unit with a so-so
battery that's usually plugged in?

A wallstreet should still function with a dead PRAM. If you want to
keep the date and time correct you will need the PRAM battery.

Its a G3 PowerBook, one that looks like a "Pismo", but its not, its
much thicker than a "Pismo". It has a black keyboard, and its specs
are 233MHz, 2Gb HD, 32Mb RAM, although I have upgraded it to 256Mb.

I am guessing its a Lombard, but I just want to check. I need to know
as I am looking for a few parts for it. I need the two rubber

I've actually had an external monitor hooked up this whole time for that
very reason. It ended up simulcasting on both.

I got it to work! But it won't work with the keyboard. If I hook one of the

This is driving the 14 LCD at 1024x768, haven't checked the VRAM tho.

I'm gonna try different top plastics and see if that fixes it. Got to tear
it down again though.

Got a WS 1 mobo with a 292MHz CPU, I checked the bottom and made sure it was
a Rage LT (not a Pro) and the CPU is labeled as a 292MHz. I hooked
everything up and when I plug the AC in it powers on, LED lights up, FAN
spins, then it shuts down. Press the power button it dongs but NO power LED
and no video. The CPU heatsink heats up though so I know its on.

Have you tried the video out (VGA) ? COuld be a bad cable connection
from the LCD to motherboard.

Also, if you plug a HD in, does it spin up ?

Also, one thing comes to mind: the unit with no S-video only has 2
megs of VRAM, which might not drive the 13.3" screen. Try swapping
another screen, or use the external video.

Re: Wallstreet probs

2005-07-20 Thread Lisa & Tom P

Just to clarify:

Wallstreet II motherboards had a Rage LT chip on the bottom? That's how I
tell the difference?

My CPU's are labeled, one is a 233MHz, no cache, found some pics on the web,
and the other is a 292MHz. ALL the mobo's I have have the LT chip on the
bottom. What's weird is a couple of the powerbooks had these CPU's in them
with the mobo with the LT chip. Maybe they were replaced with the wrong ones
or something.

So how do I know for sure if it is a Wallstreet II mobo or not? Or CPU for
that matter if its not labeled? Is there a website? Thanks!

Wallstreet 1 has the Rage LT. Wallstreet 2 has the Rage LT Pro or
Rage Pro LT (cant remember which it is).

If it boot chimes and the HD seems to be working, but you get no

video, this most likely means you have a Wallstreet 1 CPU (233/no L2,
250, 292 MHz) on a Wallstreet2 motherboard (Rage Pro LT video
chipset).

I have a 292 and 233, but the one that isn't labeled is this:

ck8241xxbkeaw (kinda hard to read so I may have messed a few)

the mobo does have the Rgae LT Pro chip on it.

Does the CPU card in question have both L2 chips next to the CPU, or
one cache chip on the front of the card, and one on the backside ?

and the CPU heats up so I assume it's on. I've tried 3 different LCD's and
the external hookup. No power LED tho ... weird. Any ideas? I should show u

The WS1 CPUs do not get video out on a WS2 mobo. I am guessing the

You will need X Post Facto which you can get from www.macsales.com.
Read the manual and it will be clear.

Why not just get the L2 cache replaced ? Daystar will do it for ~$30

Daystar asks $110 for the L2 cache replace/repair plus the cost of shipping.

bill

?!?! I guess prices have gone up quite a bit since I got a quote.

Re: General Lombard Questions.

2005-07-12 Thread Lisa & Tom P

IIRC that is only with a G4 upgrade.

Mike

They can replace the L2 with A G3 or a G4, but it might be tied to
purchasing the new CPU. Its worth asking them if they will change
out only the L2 cache. if Daystar wont do it Wegener might.

13.3" WS screen

2005-07-05 Thread Lisa & Tom P

>

If anyone is interested, I think I have a fix for the wallstreet
13.3" screen problem (white lines appearing).

Go on then ...

Apart from taking the screen apart and taping the cable in place ?

I dont have pics yet, but I take the screen back off, and put a small
plastic shim between the metal stiffener and the plug head. Then, I
use a thin piece of stiff foam to go over the cable back. Together,
this has fixed this 13.3 screen I am using on this WS. No more white
lines.

I hope to put pics up sometime soon.

thanks,

Mad Dog

Re: Lombard OS X Install

2005-06-27 Thread Lisa & Tom P
In a not so small nutshell, I have a lombard and have installed OS X
via a firewire external HDD. All is grand. I repeated the process on
a slightly smaller (30 vs 20 gig) and it is an abject failure. It
will boot to the grey screen and the Apple logo, then it goes to
slanted line (bar) through a circle. I can boot both HDD via
firewire on my ibook and run the OS just fine. The only difference
that I can tell is that the original HD is a clone of my iBook. The
second HD was a clone of the iBook, but then I formatted and did a
new install of OS X (this HD is for another Lombard). The problem
seems to be the smaller HD, as the larger HD works fine. I suspect
the OS install is the culprit, though I can't tell you why. At any
rate, help would be greatly appreciated.

Henry

Which version ? 10.4 ?

On a separate note, I am having some trouble with my new G4/466
upgrade from Daystar. I noticed after running a few minutes under
OS X 10.3.9, the unit would lock up the first time it went to
sleep. Under OS 9.2.2, the unit would lock up within 60 seconds of
booting. This did not appear to be a heat issue.

After installing the XLR8 software, and using the write through
cache setting, the lockups under OS X stopped and the unit runs
fine in X. I did the same for OS 9.2.2, and it didnt improve
anything. I tried an entirely different hard drive with 9.2.2 on
it, and the same lock up occurred. I made sure to enable power
conservation under both OS versions. it also doesnt seem to be RAM
related.

This appears to be some sort of software issue with OS 9 and a G4.
Has anyone run across this type of problem before ?

Only when I used an old TravelStar HD. It would do exactly as you
describe. Doubt this is a software issue.

J Sanderson

So you had a G4 card and a Travelstar under OS 9, and that caused the
problem ? I wonder if there is some setting for the drive that can
be changed ?
