On the 20th May I ordered the parts and paid for the correct delivery

email and I was happy with the order.

About 2 weeks ago I was starting to wonder where my delivery had got
to, so I tried to contact them. I emailed [EMAIL PROTECTED] a
detailed description of my order asking for an update.

By Tuesday the 10th June I hadn't had a reply, so I sent another email
that day.

I still haven't had a reply, I am without the items I ordered and paid
for.

Has anyone here, or in the UK had any dealings with wegenermedia.com?

Problems with Wegener Media are not unknown on our PowerBook lists. The
company has some downright weird policies -- you can order over the
Internet, but you can only contact customer service by telephone. Not
email. Not mail. Not fax. Only by phone.

Until recently, the owner ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) was on our PowerBook
lists, where he has consistently blamed the customer for every complaint
made on the list -- and often gone on to threaten legal action against
his customer and Low End Mac for allow such defamatory postings on the
list.

David Wedge is no longer welcome here. Low End Mac no longer links to
Wegener Media deals in our weekly 'Book Review. We want nothing to do
with them and cannot recommend doing business with anyone who so abuses
their customers.

Secondly, I just did some research on this through my 9 months of

are not the first to complain about WegenerMedia.

Do any of the emails say how the problems ended up being resolved?

I agree with Kurt: No one I have found that has paid them via PayPal
has been successfully trouble-free with Wegener. Personally I have
not purchased from them before nor do I ever intend to but that's my
 opinion and personal choice.

It may be the fact that I have paid via PayPal thats the problem.

I think the best bet for me would be to print out my order confirmation,
my PayPal receipt and a very clear letter stating my issues, I will
then fax it to them, and post them the hard copy.

Hopefully if I will get the goods (I *really* need these parts!!!), but
failing that, hopefully I will get my money back - otherwise I will have
to seek legal advice :(

Thanks,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

IIRC it was in 2001 when I bought a CD-RW for a tray-loading iMac from
David, no problems at all, he even waited till the end of the month
until my PayPal account was activated, I subscribed to PayPal just to
order that CD-RW from him. Good communication and fast delivery.

PS: Too bad the tray of the CD-RW broke a while ago...

I sent them my clamshell iBook to repair a torn cable, broken internal modem, and
install a much larger harddrive. The computer arrived back to me safely within a
week. I was quite pleased.
Why don't you call them and ask what's going on? The two complaints I remember
earlier about them on this list were both resolved. One occurred when he had the flu
back at the beginning of the year. And I beleive the other complaint was caused
because the mail system back to Europe (France?) was slow beyond belief.
I personally have noticed that it takes much longer for me to get Portmeirion
pottery shipments from England now (after 9/11) than it used to. I assume the
delay has something to do with extra security and the postal system.
Pick up the phone and call them. Just ask them if the items have been shipped
and when you should reasonably expect them to arrive.

Can anyone comment if this is usual? I have posted to a few newsgroups
asking the same question, and the general reply is that the guy is a
one man shop, and although he takes his time, he usually comes through,
but one month on tomorrow, no reply to my emails and no goods gets me
very concerned about the situation :(

 Thanks in advance,

 Andrew McCall.

Hi Andrew,

I bought a replacement CD/DVD ROM drive for my Pismo from this guy and ran
into a few problems myself. The first one he sent me had a broken faceplate
and it took a while to get it swapped for a good one. I also bought a power
manager card from him and it took some prompting before the core charge
refund got posted to my account. My impression is that he is a one or two
man operation and is having some personal and personnel problems. Other than
the delays, he was honest and provided resonable service. I would try
sending another email asking for a status and explanation for the delays.

Good luck,
Joe Ellis

2003-06-19 Thread Harbourmaster

Has anyone here, or in the UK had any dealings with wegenermedia.com?

Andrew McCall.
Andrew and others,

I have had several transactions over the last five years with Dave as both
a buyer and seller of goods.
I have to say that all of my dealings with him have been quite pleasant and
straight forward and that I have no doubt that you shall receive the goods
that you have paid for. David is an honest business person and I would not
hesitate to buy anything from him.
If you did not ask for some form of express shipping then a months
wait for an overseas shipment does not seem unusual to me.

As others here have suggested you should try to ring him up and inquire
as to the date that your package was shipped.

Re: Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from WegenerMedia??

2003-06-19 Thread vicki
Hi all

Never bought anything from this firm. But I do tend to buy things from the
states a lot as even with shipping you can save a lot off the UK prices.

On the shipping side I tend to have to wait at least 10 days for the goods
even with express. and around the three week limit is normal for most
things.

It depends if the seller has sent it surface post or air.

I have waited for 7 weeks getting very upset and sending not so nice emails
to the seller only to have to eat humble pie and say sorry! in the end
because the postal stamp say's it was sent the day the seller stated.

All I have herd about this seller is bad news so far but be optimistic
And have patience, But not too much! At least you have a name and address.
And even if they arrive broken you can get your money back as you will have
a receipt .

I lost a lot of money three months ago and I am still waiting for the
powerbook I was told had been sent to arrive. Even The email address I had
for the seller was bogus (NO BEFORE ANYBODY JUMPS ON THE WAGON WITH THE
WRONG END OF THE STICK IT WAS NOT WEGNER MEDIA IT WAS SOMEONE WHO CONTACTED
ME VIA EBAY) MORE FOOL ME.

Keep your fingers crossed

That is not really on topic here, but I will respond with this.

I personally have had a paypal account or several years and have many
friends and co-workers that have paypal accounts and I do not know of a
SINGLE person that has had a problem with them. Aside from a fellow I met
that did a few shady deals and had paypal freeze his account until he could
rectify them. And in that circumstance I do not at all blame them for it.
It was his fault.

I second Ken's statement. I have dealt with David Wegener several times and
he has always delivered exactly what was promised in a timely fashion.

Re: Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from WegenerMedia??

2003-06-19 Thread Brian Deuel
http://www.paypalwarning.com
http://www.paypalsucks.com

PLENTY of people have had problems with them. I lost $4,500 a couple of
years ago when they froze my account for suspicious activity. They
refused to tell me what this activity was! After jumping through many
flaming hoops with them and finally having my lawyer fire off a nasty
letter to them, they wrote me via USPS saying that I can no longer use
PayPal's services, and that my account has been closed. And of course,
my money had mysteriously disappeared.

I've been fighting these bastards for the past 2 years to no avail.
Because they aren't regulated like other financial services, they can
get away with picking the occasional account and fleecing the balance
from it, then act like they had nothing to do with it. I'm now
considering a six figure lawsuit against them.

Just because it hasn't happened to you or someone you know doesn't
mean it has never happened. There are plenty of stories like mine, some
MUCH worse (such as the guy whose $60,000 balance suddenly disappeared
into thin air when some jerk he did business with decided that the $10
CD he bought sucked and reported it as fraud to Paypal.$60,000).
Paypal uses chargeback attempts as an excuse to RIP YOU OFF. ANd I've
got plently of emails from other victims (a lot of them business owners
like myself) as evidence.

Tread lightly...

I think Kyle meant that talking about PayPal vs. wegener media wasnt on
topic for this discussion, because the original topic was talking about
the business practices of wegener media, and not PayPal.

Cheers,

Re: Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from WegenerMedia??

2003-06-19 Thread Andrew Main
From reading the web site, I believe Wegener Media is David and his
brother, and they travel a lot. I've dealt with him now and then for
some ten years, since the days when all the Mac trading happened on
the AOL bulletin board - which was also where Small Dog got its
start, as I recall. David seems to mean well, but is one of those
types who operate only in forward gear, has a hard time going back to
fix a deal that's gone bad. Post sale corrections are a drag for a
small operation - I know how I hate to have to go back to fix a
problem with a job, rather than getting on to the next (paying) one -
but that's no excuse. About a year ago I got a modem from him that
turned out to be the wrong type (his error), and it was a real hassle
to get the right one, then a very late refund that he owed me. In the
end, it was far more hassle than it was worth.

BTW, I thought David was a subscriber to this list? I know he's on
one of the LEM lists. Maybe he's on vacation.

As for PayPal, I've had problems with them as well, which resulted in
my account being frozen for a year, as I wasn't going to knuckle
under to their extortion. In any controversy, they interpret the
evidence in their favor, i.e. to confiscate and keep your money. (Why
does a dog lick itself? Because it can.) I'd suggest: (1) DON'T ever
keep more than a minimal account balance with them, cause you could
lose it anytime; immediately transfer funds from your PayPal account
to your bank account if you make a big sale. (2) But DON'T give
PayPal access to your bank account; you can link the PayPal account
to the bank account one-way, to transfer funds from the former to the
latter, without allowing PayPal to tap the bank account.
