I removed the 526 MB card from the 15 Aluminium: they are PC2700 DDR 333 MHz CL2.5 144 pin And I out one of them onto the iBook G4. Hope this will help. I run my 900mhz-upgraded BW G3 with 768MB (much of that swiped from the old PC that's sitting gathering dust in the hallway, because it was left with so little RAM that Windows XP will probably barely even load...oh, wait, I think I felt sorry for it and stuck a bit more in when it was cheap somewhere...), and it seemed better than when it had 512, but I think any easing of bottlenecks in that kind of machine is going to help. (just wish I had a PCI-X slot, the 66mhz one is an insult to my Radeon 9200) My 12 iBook runs cooler and longer at 1.2ghz with 768MB than my old 12 PB at 867mhz and 256MB (this was the machine the iMac RAM was supposed to fit), and of course, significantly faster. I just upgraded my 933MHz iBook G4 from 640MB to 1152MB, and noticed a pretty significant difference. With nothing else running, OS X and the Finder will often use up to 500MB, and iPhoto will happily use 250MB during prolonged scrolling. Currently, with Finder, Mail, Adium X, Installer, Terminal, Address Book, iCal, TextEdit, Preview, Taco HTML Edit and Safari open, 1.11GB of my RAM is in use. Personally, with a 15 AlBook, I'd go straight to 1.5 or 2GB. RAM isn't that expensive these days, a 1GB PC2700 SODIMM shouldn't cost any more than US$250. Memory - from iMac G4 to AlBook ?
It seems to be the same, but is the SoDIMM from a G4 iMac 1GHz, i.e. the second edition with PC2700 333MHz RAM the same as the current version of AlBooks ? Apple refers to the RAM in the iMac as PC2700, but they seem to be talking about the non-user changeable 168-pin DIMM and not the user-upgradeable SoDIMM, but surely they are the same speeds ?! Basicaly I have the SoDIMM from the iMac G4 1GHz that I sold, and I will probably be getting the 15 AlBook which has one spare slot, so why not use it there ?!...
