remove any dimm of memory ram. Remove the pram batt. Left the the motherboard 
without batt. For one or two hours and start to test every dimm one by 
one...turn off set up the next... Turn off and the next REMEMBER KILL ALL THE 
POWER FIRTS AND DISCHARGE THE STATIC BEFORE TOUCH ANY COMPONENT !

Check the memory ram compatibility, remove any extra pci card like USB or 
FireWire, printer or scanner. Kill before the power and push the power for the 
static and start to remove any dimm of memory ram. Remove the pram batt. E

I was experiencing this error on my PowerMac G5. Going thru this post
resolved the issue for me:

What finally resolved it for me was reseating the power connector on
my motherboard. YMMV.

There's some sort of bug in lookupd, a kernel process in Tiger 10.4  
and lower. A 3rd-party fix has been written, called "Unlockupd" which  
should stop this problem. Lookupd was removed from Leopard 10.5, so  
this fix won't help with Leopard or Snow Leopard, it's only for Tiger  
and below:

lookupd is is a unix daemon that provides a 'central clearinghouse' for many 
tasks in OS X:



This may or may not be related to the crash.

THIS is the vital piece of info...it's telling you exactly that the system, 
specifically the PMU is forcing the shutdown. Cause = -122 means SOMETHING to 
the folks at Apple, but they're not sharing, as far as I can tell.

It could be a faulty PSU, it could be a faulty logic board, it could be a video 
card drawing too much power. You need to find out what cause= -122 means. A 
cursory googling does not reveal info.

I tried that in Terminal and nothing.
It is now not being shown with System Profiler so it either died (not sure
if this is it as I saw the CD-ROM icon show up last time I asked about this.
Didn't eject then either) or a cable somehow came loose.

Where did you get this silliness? Even a commercial dishwasher only
uses 1.5 gallons per cycle (see this link: ). People who want to save water and go easy on the
environment use dishwashers. Hand washing dishes in the kitchen sink
uses a lot more water than a dishwasher.

If you want to go the absolute easiest on the environment, don't wash
your dishes at all. Lick them clean.

The purpose of the dish washer is that it does a better job of cleaning without 
physical damage due to brushing and rubbing. As far as the green crap goes the 
waste of the compnent contributes a lot more wasted energy than the renewable 
water and electricity you use.  

BTW  use the top rack away from the heating and drying coil.

someone who claims to be a psychoceramic emeritus (anyone know WTF
that's supposed to mean?) should understand that water does evaporate
at different rates, and electrons do flow at different speeds,
depending on the environment.  the rate of evaporation of any liquid
depends on the vapor pressure present in the air in contact with the
liquid surface.  in the close confined space under the keys of a
keyboard where the air does not circulate very well, it can indeed
take days or longer to dry thoroughly, and it would also depend on the
ambient relative humidity as well.  and electrons do indeed flow a
different rates, depending on the nature of the media through which
they are flowing, so if someone is waiting for every single capacitor
on a motherboard to discharge into space or thru an open circuit, it
can take days or longer.  (or is that only for CRT's?)

"THE" dishwasher.  as if everyone has one handy.  to some folks, save
the environment is more than a feel good bumpersticker to put on their
Hummer.  a dishwasher uses 40 gallons of hot water (heating requires
energy) to clean dishes that could be washed more thoroughly by hand
using only 2 gallons of water.  and when one includes the pre-wash
rinsing with loading and unloading the dishwasher, it doesn't actually
save that much time.  it's just the illusion of affluence and one more
example of the obscenely conspicuous consumption that makes amerika SO
popular around the world.  and btw, simply soaking the keyboard in a
little bit of water for a while, followed by a quick rinse with
rubbing alcohol or distilled water (to remove traces of minerals that
might be left behind when tap water evaporates) also works just fine.

It sounds extreme, but a very effective way to clear keyboard spills
is to put the kb upside down on the upper rack of the dishwasher and
run it through a cycle.
Dry it out thoroughly, as others have advised, and it's perfectly  
fine.


The dishwasher works fine for me if I disassemble the keyboard first  
and give a long time to dry.

Two replies from the MacFreak discussion forum (translated from Dutch  
into English):


Spilling coke and rebooting and ejecting the cd. What have you done joh!
Spiliing coke: rinse in water (yes, detach keyboard !) and for the  
time being leave to try in a warm spot for at least two weeks. A new  
ketboard ($ 30) may be an easier fix in these circumstances.

Rebooten: PRAM-reset
CD uitwerpen: restart mac and keep mouse button pressed .

Second reply:

Coke, immediately rinse with lukewarm water. Current needs to be  
switched off, so with a USB keyboard untie cable, and with a wireless  
keyboard take out the batteries. And don't wait too long before doing  
so.


Dry the keyboard, and leave it for 2 days in a warm spot. 2 weeks is  
indeed a long time...

On keyboards without a dedicated eject key F12 does. In 10.4 or later you have 
to hold the key down for a couple seconds, otherwise you simply activate 
Dashboard.

The easiest way is to put the "Eject" icon in your menubar, then you
can easily control the open/close/eject functions. Navigate to System
> Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras, double-click on the icon
called Eject.menu; you will see an eject icon appear in your menubar.

I don't know about the whole world but bunnies were on the verge of
taking over my yard until I started grilling them- tastes like chicken!

DUH! I'm an idiot. Here I am explaining how to add an "eject" icon to
the menu bar and I completely forget that there is also a "Shut Down"
selection in the Apple icon's pull-down menu. Guess I'm just too used

A while back (August ??) someone had a post on the G-3-5-list which
explained how to add an "eject icon" to the OS X top menu bar.

The instructions were to look in System\Library\CoreServices\Menu
Extras and double click on Eject.menu. This should add an eject icon
to the menu bar which you can use to eject a disc.

As for rebooting, I'm confused. Does pressing the power on/off button
no longer bring up the shutdown dialog?

The answer is to use the proper command

diskutil eject devicename

The command

man diskutil

will give details.


There is no 'eject' command in the shell.  There is, however, one in 
the firmware... easier to just hold down the mouse button tho.

WRT using the keyboard again... damp cloth, maybe some rubbing 
alcohol, might work.  Depends on how far the liquid got into the 
electronics while it had power.  You *did* unplug the thing as soon 
as the spill occurred, right?

None of the Logitech keyboards I've used can boot a Mac.  They just 
don't have the logic for it.

My Logitech has a nice eject button in the upper right corner.  But 
like all the other special buttons, it only works when LCC is running.


You could just drag the disc to the trash.

Or do a 'diskutil eject' command from Terminal.

Or boot and hold down the mouse button...

On my Apple KB I used the key combo to reboot. :)

On my Apple KB I used the key combo to reboot. :)
