Re: [Audyssey] ps three

2006-05-16 Thread allan thompson
Hi,
That might be so, but how would sony then expect anyone to make a home brew
game for their system unless there was a way to port it in and out?memory
card? Ethernet? It would kind of defeat the purpose, if that was the case,
at least in my opinion.
thanks for the info though

Two words. That sucks!
Here just when I thought Sony might be given in an edge to coming out
with an accessible game platform, and once again commercialism wins over
any desires we small devs might have.

Hi.
Interesting. I'm also wondering how much insider custom crap Sony will
be adding. I am hopeful the PS3 will be made to be accessible, but am
uncertain as many commercial products have also used Linux, but used so
much home grown programs that the unit, software, or device was
rendered absolutely unaccessible.

However, adding automatic for those gamers who would like to have it

Hi, Shaun.
The distribution of Linux would not matter. All of the stuff kernel,
libraries, etc is typically identical. The only question would be
version matching.
I would suspect Sony would be adding some specialised tools for the
games, and and special libs that would be specific to their console. I
don't get why you would think you would need sound cards, speakers,
and screen readers. It is game console. It hooks up to your tv. The
speakers are your tv or stereo system.
Any games written for the PS3 could be written on a native linux pc,
and ported to the Ps 3 by burning to disk where the Ps3 would run them.

When you release the beta, you may want to find a couple mirrors, so
that your site doesn't crash from all the downloads.

True tom, however you probably would need a reader to read the screen.
Unless it was built in, you would most sertainly need a reader for
the internal configs stored on the system.

Example: in mkdeception all the character names are prerecorded. That is

While I am not in any way really understanding what the diffrence would
be.
I was thinking, like Tom said, that perhaps a program could be developed
on
the computer and then just ported over. Don't other playstation games
use
speech? or perhaps it is all prerecorded stuff. not a programmer, so I
am
not sure how all of that would work. I was really just excited to see
consoles coming out that could be potential platforms for developers
other
than mainstream companies, namely our blind devs.

[Audyssey] rail racer auto transmission

2006-05-16 Thread Che
Yah, I could put an automatic transmission option in, this would probably
help new players get used to the game.
There would of course have to be a performance hit to your acceleration
for using the auto transmission though, after all, the players working
harder ought to be rewarded for their efforts, eh?
This also reflects reality. No automatic transmission, given the same
amount of horsepower can hang with a well shifted manual.
  Later taters,

[Audyssey] Rail Racer questions

2006-05-16 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hey folks. Please remember that RailRacer is yet in Alpha stage so try
to not ask too many questions about the code system, about music, about
the price. Remember that from Alpha to Beta and from Beta to Delta, and
from Delta to Gamma, and from Gamma to final release many things will
most likely change.

In short, it's best to probably ask Che directly. I'm not saying these
questions are off topic because they are not, just that Che may either
not want to answer these questions on list or may not have an answer
yet.

I only have one system I would play stuff on for now, but will extra
keys cost less or what.
And what happens if we get a new system, because the other breaks.
I have everything on my laptop.
I do put stuff on a desktop if I wish because its got more powerfull
speakers and other devices.
I'll guess I will just add more modules to the laptop, i have a 50
buck pair of 2.1 speakers for this so I think thats what I will do.
I actually havn't needed to put anything on to another system yet for gaming.
At any rate I can carry my games around.

I know tom,Going back to your message, you forgot about scripts and
batches and their use so you don't need to type everything in.
On that subject, just for info, avg doesn't like a script with any
regestered extention in front of it or after it, like .lnx.txt for example.
Also you need a unix to dos converter to convert from unix 2 dos formats.

probably not, I dabbled in linux with a broken synth on speakup with
fedora 2 years ago at tech.
Its ok.
I still like the windows interfaces though, so I suppose when
everyone goes linux I think I will be jumping from the terminal to gnome.
I actually like that.
one terminal on root, one on my user, one in gnome.
you can do that on windows but it has issues.
I liked that feature.

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer

2006-05-16 Thread Che
The system I am using for Rail Racer is tied to your hardware ID, so you
can reformat your drive, reinstall windows, whatever and your serial will
still be good to go.
This is not a unique idea here. A great deal of software locks itself to
one computer.
As a side note, I am setting aside 20 percent of any Rail Racer revenue
for my lawyer to prosecute anyone that distributes hacked versions of my
game.
I have seen cracked copies of blind games on ftp sites for the blind for
God's sake. What are these people thinking? We want new and unique games
published, and at the same time these bozos are distributing cracks, totally
undermining the hard work of developers.
Additionally, I will be offering a reward for reports of cracked
distribution of my games.
Details of this will be posted on my web site after beta release.
  Later,
  Che

well that majorly sucks, I guess I will either put it on my laptop or on my
desktop. Yeah I thank them alot *sarcastic laugh* that does suck, but oh
well. Will the final release have a different product key? What I guess I am
asking is there a possibility to have the beta on 1 computer and have the

it makes it sound even more awesome. I am sure that the game will be awesome

[Audyssey] sound libraries

2006-05-16 Thread Scott Shade
I'm thinking here that one or two people have massive collections of sounds
that they have aquired though I can't remember who they are. The problem I'm
having is this, I need access to a descent sound library to make up some sound
packs for achaea and possibly a few additional ones for godwars. I took a look
at soundamerica.com but well quite simply, they want about 129.00 for a yearly
subscription and I just don't need that much access where I'd use it
constantly. I need stuff for like a mage character, or demon, depending on
what I'm doing, priest and knight aren't out of the question either depending
on the game. If anyone can help me out with this, or suggest a site to
consider, please let me know as I'm thinking that if I can get some files
together, I might actually be able to consider some pk as well. I have to say
doing some pk on godwars with another person is interesting. Sorry about the
graphical description but its kind of therapeutic when you've had a tough day
to hack off someones head in the middle of a fight and it wasn't an npc. Take
care all, Scott

Hi Che,
Do you save the options so you don't have to pick them out for each race?
I am talking about the difficulty level, and type of race, but especially
things that may not change like configure controls.

 Hi.
Well, RR is suppose to be getting a gravity gun so after you played x
number of races you will be able to fire it at the AI driven racer
 which
will slow him down. He will also be able to buy one which will slow
 your
 proformence for a while.
It's not a feature I am exactly thrilled about, but many of the other
features of the game are pretty cool.
As for the engine noises they are actually much better. I really like
the new sounds in Alpha 18 over Alpha 11.

Re: [Audyssey] ps three

2006-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Allan.
Linux has always had a graphical Windows-like interface as well as a
command line interface. The problem was until the past couple of years
ago the Windows interface was not accessible to screen readers. Now,
there are two screen readers gnopernicus and Orca which work in the GUI.
Currently Orca is the closest to working like Jaws.
I've used Linux successfully for the past year in the Windows interface
to browse the web, write documents, do email, etc. Access isn't perfect,
maybe like what MS Windows and screen readers was like a few years ago,
but it is usable, and is improving with each upgrade and update of Linux.
As for the shell with the right screen readers almost everything there
is fully accessible if you are of a mind to type every command in the book.
Ah, well, we are straying from the PS3 and Linux.Which is the topic we
are suppose to be discussing here.

  Hi Phil,
  Thanks for the kudos.
All the curves build and fall in pitch as you travel them. Once the pitch
peaks and starts to fall, you know you are at the halfway point of the
curve. After a bit of practice, the speed of your driving hand will jive
with the pitch and therefore the correct angle of the curve.
There are also help options you can turn on and off that will tell you the
exact angle of the curve as you enter it, jump heights before a hurdle and
the like. Additionally, these help options are in mono for those that may
have hearing loss in one ear or the other.
  Later taters,

Hmmm, unfortunatly, the article wasn't that specific about what the content
of Linux would look like. It was a blurb really at the end of the article
which did mention the Linux and that people at home would be able to use it

it from sony's end and that some things would not be available, compared to

Re: [Audyssey] ps three

2006-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Allan.
The big question for developers will be how much is Linux native sdks
and libraries, and how much of it is custom stuff built and owned by
Sony. If they make extensive use of he known libraries, etc then we
have a chanse. If they pull a Lindows stunt of using the Linux base os
and develope a bunch of closed source crap on top of it then we are screwed.

Re: [Audyssey] The Rail Racer Trailer is up

2006-05-16 Thread Neo
Hi Phil,
rather than that, I think one tone of different lengths would be cooler and
more intuitive for the player. The longer the beep, the longer or better the
steeper the curve.
Best wishes,
Lukas

Hi Che,
I listened to your second RailRacer demo and it does sound great.
Do you have different sounds representing the different curves?
If you don't I suggest 1 beep for a slight curve, 2 for a 45 degree curve
and 3 beeps for a steeper curve.

While I am not in any way really understanding what the diffrence would be.
I was thinking, like Tom said, that perhaps a program could be developed on
the computer and then just ported over. Don't other playstation games use
speech? or perhaps it is all prerecorded stuff. not a programmer, so I am
not sure how all of that would work. I was really just excited to see
consoles coming out that could be potential platforms for developers other
than mainstream companies, namely our blind devs.

True tom, however you probably would need a reader to read the screen.
Unless it was built in, you would most sertainly need a reader for
the internal configs stored on the system.
