Listen here, there is definitely something very weird about my
subscription of my home e-mail address. It looks like I have to
unsubscribe my home address and re-subscribe it.
I have e-mailed thom privately and he said he doesn't believe I'm on
moderated status. Yesterday night I e-mailed the list about the self
destruct cheet codes and once again my post didn't reach the list for
sure.
Thanks for telling me about the cheet codes, dark. But I can't get it
to work. I'm using version 1.1.6 of sd. The users guide says press
control+c to use a cheet.
So what I did just to test it. I copied the text of the cheet code
surrounded by quotes exactly from the website, I started self destruct
up and when I was in the game I pressed control+c, I pasted everything
with control+v and I hit enter and nothing happens. I'm just put back in
the game WITHOUT ACTIVATING ANY CHEET. I tried the level select cheet.
I copied it exactly from the website.
What am I doing wrong that it doesn't work?
thanks

Re: [Audyssey] self destruct cheet codes

2007-05-25 Thread Dark
Hi Nichol.

I'm also running that version of the game (I suspect the earlier versions
aren't available anymore).

As it says on the audiogames.net site, the cheat codes are everything inside
the quotation marks, so do! not! copy the quotes.

Personally, I prefer to enter the cheats manually rather than coppying and
pasting.

For example, the level select cheat I mentioned, type Ahh, this is boring!

Using a capital A, two H's, a comma after the first Ahh and an exclamation
mark after boring.

Entering the code correctly, Sapi should ask you which level you wish to go
to, now just type in a number from 1 to 10 and away you go!

I can deffinately say this works, sinse I've just tested it out myself.

Hth,

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

I'd like to add that if you can handle it, that once the mouse is
installed, and you install its driver, most mice seem to have a
driver cd or floppy, that you should use something like startup
manager to remove the advanced feature set, this is unless you want
 the advanced feature set.
The reason is that if you change the mouse settings wrongly it can be
a devel of a thing to fix.
I did this one time and had to reformat because windows decided to be bad.
The only time I leave stuff like keyboard and mouse advance feature
programs alone is if they are multimedia devices, then well they may
 be usefull.
 Another thing.
Tab around during install otherwise you will probably install the ps2
 driver.
this is bad because on restarting it can be a devel to force windows
to detect the right internal mouse.
ANd don't update your internal mouse driver because the usb mouse
driver may detect the internal differently.
Speaking about railracer, where is it?
 Surely something is moving.
I mean no new releases for testing, no traffic on the beta group or
 forums.

Only problem I have with mouse driven games, and I've got a couple of
  blind
friends who I believe have this same problem, is that we use laptops
  and
  are
without desktops or desktop mice. I'm personally planning in investing
  in
  a
freakin awesome new desktop in the near future, probably a couple
  months
from now, but I'll tell you mouse driven games are almost impossible to
  play
with a touch pad. I managed it with James North's mouse shooter demo

but I don't know how well I could pull off anything more advanced than
  that.

  Hi Dark,
Yes, we did have some discussion on mouse driven games, but it is an
area I think we could certainly have further discussion upon.
As the article points out mice have some ways of doing advanced hand
motions we otherwise could not do for weapons like whips, swords,
  light
  sabers, etc.
It should be interesting to see how this article and the concepts come
off in the accessible games comunity.

Hello Jim I was wondering since you are working on version 3 of baseball. is
it possible that we can create leagues and run them just like the football
games instead of 16 games and then the superbowl we can have the standard
amount of games or create our own standard of games and teams and then have
a world series I think that would be exciting ok and keep up the good work
and also add some more commercials. You can make the simulator run scores
of current games just like in the football game if it is possible.

Hi Shaun,
Regardless of weather someone puts an, if you like this buy it, type

Look at it like this. If a guy puts out a crack out for an accessible
game, slaps a disclaimer on it knowing full well most people will ignore
it, and then makes it available he still is consciously breaking the end
user license and has contributed to a theft. If I then come along,
download that game an it's crack, and later don't buy it I have stolen
that game from the company that produced it. Shame on the guy who put
the crack out there, and double shame on me for steeling it.
In short putting a warning on a program not to steel it even though you
put it up for that very purpose is a crime.
It is almost like the cigarette companies here in the USA that print
warning labels on the cigarette packs stating something like, Danger!
Use of this product may cause heart attacks, cancer, strokes, and death...
Ok, since the cigarette companies know their product do those things
making their product is morally and ethically wrong. Yet they always can
state the end user baught the product, smoked it, and suffered the
results of his or her own actions. Yet, the cigarette companies in truth
can not be totally inocent, because they knowingly, willingly, and
without conscience sold several people a product that will cause them
physical harm.
An accesible game is no different. If you crack a game, and give it away
you are morally responcible for that other persons theft.

[Audyssey] Baseball suggestion for Jim.

2007-05-25 Thread Dark
Hi Jim.

One thing just occurred to me about new Baseball.

I remember the issues I had with not understanding the game rules due to
being both not heavily sport-orientated and (more to the point), from
England, not the us.

The Rules Phil posted to the list a while ago were quite helpful I found,
but to save people having to traul the net and search for such things,
Perhaps You could enclude a set of rules into the game for people in a
similar position who might play it in the future, - just as you do in
the golf game.

You could even use Phil's rules file (I have a copy saved in text if that'd
help), though perhaps some editing to take out aspects of baseball not
supported in the game might help keep things brief.

Of course, if this would heavily increase the file size or cause significant
trouble in the programming end of things, then never mind, there's always
Wikipedia etc.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Bottom line though there isnt much we can do about them. We can get the
sites to probably remove the content, shut it down, but with send space,
you send it, and other file sharing sights it does make it even harder
to track stolen games and software.

Re: [Audyssey] Piracy of accessible software

2007-05-25 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
The solution to making games harder to crack is that it will tend to drive
the price up. So, the developer needs to decide where to draw the line. The
more time and effort going into making a game not crackable, the more
development time and costs are incurred. this means that the game in the end
will cost more. if the game costs more, then people will want to crack it.
if the game is relatively cheap and not a lot of work was put in to protect
it, then you get another group of people who steal it. These are the ones
who steal just because they can regardless of whether the game is cheap or
not. Forgive me for sounding cynical here, but that is just the reality.

So in the end, the developer needs to decide which one is worth it more to
him or her. Putting more time and effort to making a game more crack proof
and risk losing sales due to the price being higher, or making the game
cheaper and easier to steal.

Re: [Audyssey] About the audiogames market was: Piracy of accessible software

2007-05-25 Thread Davy Kager
My god, that is huge! I've calculated a price of $20 US for my upcoming game
(which is still some sort of a secret) and I thought about 50 games if I
were lucky... That way I could easily bring up the money for my domain name
and extra bandwidth. The thing is that I do all the developing because it's
something I'm interested in, not because I'd like to have more money. But
with your message in mind, I'll definitely not release it for free. And as a
little disclaimer: yes, I know that I'm not such a famous developer and thus
my sales won't be amazingly hihg, but whatever, it's still way more than I
need to break even.

Hi Davy,
We actually had this discussion a while back on the agdev-discussion
list. After comparing records the maximum number of customers by any one
company was somewhere around 2000 customers. However, most companies
sell to a much smaller market.
USA Raceway and Montezuma's Revenge when they were still being
developed by James North had around 125 to 150 pre-orders each. With an
initial income around $5000 each.
I haven't been around long enough to give you a final score, but this
should give you an idea of what is out there.
Certainly, noone writing accessible games isgoing to get ritch. You
would be lucky if you could buy very much on the income, but it does
help pay bills, get a new computer, etc.

 Hi Che,
Yeah, there have been quite a few sites out there over the passed few
years whereyou could get cracked games, screen readers, and so on. I've
heard of a few and visited them, and I have seen some of my own work
 being illegally shared there.
Bottom line though there isnt much we can do about them. We can get the
sites to probably remove the content, shut it down, but with send space,
you send it, and other file sharing sights it does make it even harder
to track stolen games and software.

Re: [Audyssey] self destruct cheet codes

2007-05-25 Thread nicol
Thanks dark. Will give it a try .
Irm, you do not want to play earlier versions of self destruct anyway as
there are more bugs in them than 1.1.6. It's a pitty I can't find 1.2
because there is a piece on audiogames.net about 1.2, where you can buy
items from murchant robots walking in the grid rather than buying items
using the mini computer. That piece in audiogames.net said that urchins will
try to kill those murchant robots so you have to be real quick to buy
something from them before an urchin can kill it. real pitty I can't get
hold of 1.2.

Dark.

What am I doing wrong that it doesn't work?
 thanks

Hoh, there are free encryptors out there. And they can even compress your
executable, so you can reduce your installers (I know this is just theory).
Sure I'm going to use this technique, since it will save me from at least
60% of the crackers.

another thing I like is say making the games partually opensource.
Ie in duke 3d all sounds, rts multiplayer systems, music, and graphics as well
as some maps etc were made opensource in a way.

well Since programs are more expensive for people in nz outside us, etc I tend
to go for packs and packages rather than single products.
I am more likely to buy a 60 dollar us pack of somethan a 30 dollar single
title, especially if the pack has betwene 3 to 5 titles in it.
This was the way I got th bsc arcade pack.
I would have never brought one otherwise.
The same goes for the gmagames when they came out.
The lworks stuff jd and sl were not in packs.
But when the bpc clonemasters series comes out eventually I will probably buy
that as a pack.
I even buy screenreaders and other software as a pack because they are good
value and you pay a flat rate.

Thank you. I do also have a copy of the baseball rules that Phil posted to the

Hi Jason,

No, I'm sorry, but I am not going to make the baseball game the standard 161
game season. It will remain the championship or World Series best of seven
game thing. I will be adding commercials etc though.

Truthfully I am surprised that the football program accurately does the whole
season and figures out who is in the playoffs, moves on etc. It didn't always
do it correctly.
