Hi,
Oh so thats how did it, so he had to into the Linux system first then
deleted the files with rm - rf?
I believe I remember Sun did some kind of update? It doesn't let it get
removed or something, but I am glad its back. That could go to legal action,
its against the US Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of I believe 2000...

Re: [Audyssey] lower than bsc ok for games?

2008-02-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
It is certainly a possibility. I've been looking into the possability of
creating XBox 360 titles, but the only hastle at this point is that the
XBox sound library tool Xact is very unaccessible. That is a huge
problem since XNA requires that volumes, panning, 3D positioning, etc is
all controled through the Xact compiled sound banks.

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-18 Thread Dark
appologies Jeremy, the tutorial command for the console is just tut, and not
the hole word tutorial. Here's a step by step guide which I've checked on my
copy of the game, if this does not work I'm afraid i'm out of ideas.

1: unload Jaws and launch audio quake.

2: press s, then enter, you will now here sapi say "welcome to quake" and
begin playing of the quake demo with sapi saying messages such as "the
necropolis" "you got the shells" etc.

3: press the graav key (the one next to the number one on your keyboard, you
should now here Sapi say "entering console"

4: if you now type t u t and press enter you should begin the tutorial.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] USA Games site and services down.

2008-02-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Andy,
I don't want to say too much about how it was done, but I will just say
the cracker managed to gain illegal access to the Linux root account,
and then proceeded to rm -rf * everything in site including the backups.
We have reinstalled most of the basic services, and I have spoken to
Shane and he has made sure the security whole was fixed. At least we are
sure the cracker won't gain entry through that whole again.
As for the USA Games web site we are using a double backup polacy from
now on. Shane will do daily backups of the server images, and I will be
doing weekly backups of the USA Games home directory. That way just in
case anything this horrible happens again there will be account backups
in two places.

Hi Liam,
Unfortunately, all of my addresses are asigned to my UUSA Games domains
and servers. However, they are all now fixed. If you want to email me
privately you can write me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and the message should go through. Though, I am planning on adding box
trapper to my email services which forces people to register themselves
with my white list so I can cut down on the spam and other crap coming
in on all of my accounts.
If you get the box trapper message just replay to the message request it
sends you, and it will add your email address to the white list.

[Audyssey] General RSG Update

2008-02-18 Thread Ryan Smith
Hi,
Well I hate to bother you but some important things:
1) I have a "trailer" of the basics of Dream City Ready
2) I have added a more complex full GUI of SDM, including closed
captions of everything SAPI says, and your health, score, etc. The
game is literally accessible to the visually impaired, hearing
impaired and everyone else. You can read a more descriptive
description and a picture at www.rsgames.wordpress.com
3) Score Boards difficulties are present please do not post
Also, a contest will be coming up very soon, and the regulations, and
what not, will be uploaded once the scoreboards are deleted and dealt
with.. I will be working on those boards.
4) The side scroller is just at the start of coding, and as I see it,
the description of the side scroller on the blog will be in the
game...
5) We've added GSV 0.1/ FR 1.0 into the dev center as well as CSS and
Autoit Sapi/Sound tutorial.
6) Shoot Da Me Contest Edition is being worked on, and I've completed
our anti-cheating system that surprisingly works well.. it checks
every second for copter's fallen and your score. If the score is
higher, you are red-flagged, and you are not longer allowed to
participtate in the contest. It also checks for a file in the
registry, if its there, that means that you cheated (once it detects
your cheating it adds that key) and forces you to end the program.

Well thats basically it on my part, SDM is going to be a pretty fun
game, and Dream City seems to be pretty cool

Re: [Audyssey] STFC multiplayer?

Hi,
Well, I am looking at making STFC 2.0 based on the Java Framework, which
is very good for networked based game play, but that would require a lot
more work.
I'll have to think upon this very closely. Right now I am too stressed

ok,
when i launch audio quake, it gives me a list, o,k,r,u,s,x, i press s to

when i alt tab after turning jaws back off, the only thing the game is
reading to me is the armour/weapons/what ever else the demo is picking up
during game play or during demo play.
any tips/advice wild be appreciated... i have read the user manual through

i am one of those that i need to read manual to see how tough it will be to

[Audyssey] Possibility of a game server

2008-02-18 Thread Tom Randall
Hi all, well I finally got a spare box set up in the computer room here
like I've been planning on doing forever and so I'd like to let the list
know that there is a possibility of setting up a sound rts server if
people want one to play on. A couple of caveats here, I use this
computer when I am doing audio editing or file converting or other
things that I don't want to tie my main system up with and if I need it
for those kind of things then they obviously take priority over the game
server and it will probably be down during those times. Also, I will
definitely need some help in knowing how to set up the server,
preferably through a no-ip virtual server which I already have. The
documentation on doing this seems to be pretty minimal.
The reason I am talking about doing something like sound rts versus top
speed is I will not always be around to participate in the games so this
is more along the lines of putting this up for people to use who might
need it. So if there is interest in this let me know.

Tom

[Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-18 Thread aiden gardiner
hi everyone,

Which version of quake do I need to use audio quake? I know there's a whole
series, but I'm not sure whether it would work on any of the games except quake
1. Also, how popular is Quake at the minute? This is just in case i have to get
quake 1, because i'm not sure if that still gets developped, or even played
largely any more.

Thanks in advance

Aiden

Hi Jeremy, you can visit www.agrip.org.uk to find out all there is
to know about the game. It's free, and there is a fairly active
community for it when the servers are up of course.

Have a great day and enjoy the game!…

Re: [Audyssey] quake

2008-02-18 Thread Dark
Hmm Jeremy, I can't help you with the full game or what's happened, sinse I
stil haven't decided whether or not to buy the quake game myself and am
playing with the shareware version which audio quake automatically installs.
the demo is automatically played when the game begins, press the accent key
(to the left of the 1 on your keyboard), to get to the console where you
type commands.

You should probably begin with the tutorial, which you can begin by typing
"tutorial" in the console.

for the various other commands, oncemore check the manual.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] quake

2008-02-18 Thread Jeremy Gilley
hello,
I have read the manual, but some of the links are no longer good... i have
found the quake site, paid $20.00 for quake since apparently i need it to
play the game, but i am not sure where to get the actual game, i tried to
download it, but it did not do anything, and the demo that came with auto
quake is a demo of someone playing it for you, you don't actually get to
play it...
any tips or suggestions would be appreciated... I do have a rejesterd name
and password that i got through the audio site.
again, any info would be appreciated, thank you.

Probably not to bad.
In some mags I have all main headings are like this
the line below that is the actual title of the text.
and then any sub sections are
These do what the +++, ++ and + sections do now.
except its h1 to h3 probably.
Ofcause if people want the mag in html for online viewing then good enough to.

Submissions are welcome anytime someone has a contribution for the
magazine. If you have some material you wish to contribute for this
upcoming issue the sooner the better. *grins* However there's always the

Asunto: What's happened to Code Factory Games?

Hello,
I would please like to know why Code Factory is not selling all the
wonderful entertainment and educational games that were made? Are there
any plans to make these games available again, as I really loved the
professional way in which they were made using real actors, and as there is
already not much available for blind people in the way of gaming
entertainment, it really seems quite sad that these games are not available
anymore. I do understand that Mobile Speak and those solutions are the most
important, but these games were also much fun.
Thanks
Ari

While the music and ticking is occurring, the game is loading all the

Re: [Audyssey] Magazine questions

2008-02-18 Thread Charles Rivard
My thoughts are after each question:

Q: I recall we did some discussion previously
about the formatting. The decision was to leave out the blank lines or
empty lines between the articles and such material. It will then look like
this

"
Here's to a good year in the audio gaming scene.
+++
Letters
++
A letter from someone...
"

Hope I've got that part correct.

My thought: I know that people have asked why there was a blank line
between each line in the magazine, but I don't recall discussing whether to
leave out the blank lines between articles. Actually, I think there should
be one between articles to separate them. The articles should not have
blank lines between each line of them, though. In other words, single
spacing throughout an article, with a blank line separating articles. I
hope that wasn't too confusing?

Q: Also I believe the idea of including a
4th plus sign for new material like Chatting with Creators, or extra
articles is worth giving a try to and see how it goes. However I don't
think using the above in the reviews and announcement section will be
implemented at this time.

My thought: I wouldn't think that the use of a fourth plus sign is
necessary. It's a personal opinion, though.

Another slight change to the News from developers section was to include
the website so it would read

"
News from L-works
http://www.l-works.net
02/17/08
"

Does that work okay?

Answer: It sure does. In fact, that's right where I would put it. It is
easily found, and it is straightforward.

Q: Lastly we had talked about a resource section in Audyssey. I feel the
place should be at the end of the magazine like you would find an index or
appendix. Assuming it stays at the back page, then comes to mind how to
present the information. Should it be just the developer and website
address? Perhaps mention the games or game offered at such a site? Which
would be the most useful to you? I've no problem making such changes to the
future issues but do certainly want input as this is as much for my
information and sharing with others.

My thought: If it is going to be like an index, I would include stuff like
this:

John Henry's Games Inc.
www.jhgames.net
Games include: Hammer Swing, Drill Race, and Mine Digger.

Thanks
The Beast Master

Re: [Audyssey] audio quake

2008-02-18 Thread Dark
Hello Jeremy.

Audio quake is a framework and programm which allows a vi person to play the
very famous mainstream fps game quake, which has multiplayer
capability, many level packs and mods, and much other good stuff.

audio quake is free, but the game quake is not, but Audio quake can download
a limited shareware version of the quake game for you just to see if you
like it or not while it is installing.
go to http://www.agrip.org.uk/

while it's not as complicated as it sounds, be careful to read the
documentation and other resources on the site before you begin so you know
what's going on (particularly in terms of console commands to the game).

righ tnow I'm building the engine. I won't be touching a story lien till I
have a working engine. I'm working backwards this time. I'm thinkign tha
thaving everything put together will make it a lot easier to write a story
around existing actions. plus. you may find that I've coded in extra stuff
that I don't need, so it might find it's way in to the game.

 That game really sounds good.
Fists and pipes sounded like fists and pipes.
The machine gun sounded chunky and the launcher.
Well you would expect to hear the thing launch and the projectile role
 to
 the target then blow.
In audioquake this does not happen.
The grenades bounce a little and you hear them clunk but they do not
 role.
Unless you use the modified ww2 soundmod that is.

there's a few reasons not to do that.
If there is security hole of some kind, fewer people will be aware of it.
Ialso have people that I know and trust test my products. It's the way I've

Hello. I also woulld like to see an acessible tennis game specially with
tournaments, grandslams and online playing.
I know there is Super tennis but it's not a good game. It is not close to

It would be great a tennis game but I never heard developpers talking about

Re: [Audyssey] super secret audio from LWorks

2008-02-18 Thread Cara Quinn
Right now I'm running it on the Windows side, but would very much
love to be running it under Leopard.I really dislike using
windows in general.

Anyway, there is a port of the ZQuake engine that runs on Mac, but
porting the actual game is something quite a bit more complicated, but
not prohibitively so, so over the next few months, when time
permits,I'll be looking into this with the help of Matthew / SEbby,
the original devs, as they'll be making the latest version of the code
available in the next couple of weeks.

Have a great day!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

 Don't

 you
could pick up in Double Dragon and beat the holy crap out of the

 awsome as

Re: [Audyssey] quick question

2008-02-18 Thread Cara Quinn
I've gotten him royally several times!… lol! And it's a right bit
of fun too!…

   One good strategy to try is this;

POSSIBLE S P O I L E R S P A C E

If you can, by at least one of each color property you land on,
this way, even if you can't buy all three and build on them, you
prevent the other player from doing same.

Also, once you do have at least one group of properties you can
build on, stay within your budget but make sure to get started
building ASAP. In other words, if you can reasonably afford a house
on each, then put one there quickly. If you can only afford a house
on one or two, then do that too. The point is to get some good
revenue coming in as quickly as you can. Each payment you get from
the other player, is less ability they have to build and therefore,
less ability they have to charge you rent.

Hope this helps.

Have an awesome evening!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Try downloading something. Anything. Before you tell it to download, see
where it is going to save it. Then, exit the process, go to where it would
have downloaded the file, and see if the audio file you downloaded from
Liam's site is there.

 Hi Liam,
Dude, that sample game sounds awesome. I love the sound
 effects.
 Don't
know what it is about but the game action reminds me of a few
 games I
played ages ago. The pipe attack reminds me of the bats and
 pipes you
could pick up in Double Dragon and beat the holy crap out of
 the
enemies. The Pistils, sniper rifles, machine guns, are pretty
 awsome
 as
 well.

Liam, do you have a story line for this yet, or are you just working on the

[Audyssey] Magazine questions

2008-02-18 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hello everyone

Okay I'm just writing this to double check on a point or two regarding the
upcoming issue of the magazine. I recall we did some discussion previously
about the formatting. The decision was to leave out the blank lines or
empty lines between the articles and such material. It will then look like
this

"
Here's to a good year in the audio gaming scene.
+++
Letters
++
A letter from someone...
"

Hope I've got that part correct. Also I believe the idea of including a
4th plus sign for new material like Chatting with Creators, or extra
articles is worth giving a try to and see how it goes. However I don't
think using the above in the reviews and announcement section will be
implemented at this time.
Another slight change to the News from developers section was to include
the website so it would read

"
News from L-works
http://www.l-works.net
02/17/08
"

Does that work okay?
Lastly we had talked about a resource section in Audyssey. I feel the
place should be at the end of the magazine like you would find an index or
apendix.

Thanks
Ron
Audyssey Editor

Re: [Audyssey] super secret audio from LWorks

2008-02-18 Thread Cara Quinn
Roll? Are you talking about rolling in the air? they do spin
randomly in AQ, but as it's in the air and they aren't very large, you
don't hear it.

The grenade launcher fires the grenade out and up, so it arcs and
often bounces off of objects before it gets near its target area.

Incidentally, the grenade launcher in Audio Quake sounds pretty
much exactly like a real one, including the grenade leaving it and
flying away.

Perhaps I'm not clear on what your saying?…

Smiles,

Cara :)
