My family owns a wii, and I own an x box. I will say as far a sblind
person

is concerned, the wii is a bad fit. Everything is done via the console.
With the x box, and even to a lesser extent the ps3. you can use the web
to

acomplish some tasks.
A lot of games that blind people play like the fighting games aren't on
the

wii.
I personally vote for the x box myself, but.. Well. That's obvious I
guess.

hey all.
i'm just curious.
in this year, i'm interested in getting one of these videogames, and
someone

that played all of then, or peraps one or two of then can give me the best
option?
i'm realy interested in getting a nintendo wii bekause the different style
of gameplay. but in other hand, i don't know if there are many accessible
games for it.
well, for the ps3 and xbox 360, i can think in getting then, but they are
h, just the same as the others, just with a much better sound in some
games.
and this is why i'm interested in the nintendo wii.
but it didn't will worth i buying a videogame like wii for example, if
there
are not much accessible games, lets say for example, if i'm going to buy
it

for like, 3 or 4 games.
so, anyone can give me help in that accessibility question?
thanks awreade for the help and best regards, Matheus

[Audyssey] Mapping program?

2009-01-09 Thread dark
With all the gamebooks etc, I was wondering if someone would considder
designing a mapping program, - probably to work with Sapi.

what I'm thinking of here is something which basically functions as a table
with eddit boxes.

You could start at coordinates 00 (so that they can both rise and fall into
negative numbers), and move left and navigate left, right up and down with the
arrows.

I thought each box could have several text fields which you could tab betwene
with the arrow keys and enter information about the location.

Fields such as name, possible exits and additional information.

This way you could create a map which you could quickly eddit while playing a
gamebook or other game, and also be able to read through fairly easily, in
fact up to the author, some extra functions could be added such as the ability
to mark a location, read all used boxes in a current column or row (handy for
reviewing down tunnels, the ability to read out marked locations etc.

With the amount of text adventures, gamebooks, and even audio games which have
complex maps, i think this would be something which could really helpp.

I've read the artical on using pins in a pizza box, but I must confess I've
never personally found that method too convenient to work in construction.

I actually got this idea from playing Eamon, which has that really useful
habbit in maps of giving current information, such as "you are in a T
intersection" and I thought this could really help if a program was constructed
to do it, - especially with adequate read keys.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Dark.

Hi Phil.

Game engines create maps, however what about all those ready existing games

Gamebooks, interactive fiction, text games, even games like shades and sarah

This was what I was thinking, rather than specifically of a map within a

[Audyssey] entombed

2009-01-09 Thread Claudio

Hi Jason!
First of all, I'd say to you that the game is pretty excelent!
Then, I have a suggestion for the menu:
After giving a character family name to the player, the game asks "is this
ok?"

Then the player doesn't know how he can ansver yes/no.
What do you think about letting sapi say "is this ok? Hit y for yes or n for
now."
Or maybe you could make a dialogue where you can select the obtions with the
cursor keys.

Best regards and thanks again for this game,
Claudio.

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping program?

2009-01-09 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Dark,
David could if he chose, separate the map making function from his GMA game
engine and allow anyone to make maps while playing other games.
For example if you have the map maker in one window and switch to a game in
a second window, you could walk along a path in the game, then switch back
to the map maker program and create the same path.
You could even add notes or numbers inserted in the path telling you things
such as went in this room, or this is the entrance to the kitchen.

or trapped a monster in this room.
As you are in the map maker there will be no monsters to attack you.
You could for example map the corridors of Shades of doom marking what is
behind each door and then when you play the game again, use the map program
to guide you as to what to do.
It would be like a physical walk through document but designed to match the
game floor plan.
As I said David could do this but I don't see it as a commercial product, so
it would have to be a free program.

Re: [Audyssey] Mapping program?

2009-01-09 Thread dark

Hi Phil.

Hmmm, certainly intreaguing, though to be perfectly honest I wasn't even
thinking of something with that level of complexity, I was just thinking of
a substitute for what a sited person can naturally do with a pen and
paper, or a word file and good aski art skills for that matter.

The best substitute I've found thus far is table creating in word, though
that has a lot of drawbacks, not the least of which is that coordinates
wise, you don't know how large the map will be, so don't know how large to
make the table, pluss there are no functions such as mapping.

I'm also not sure if the map maker in the gma engine would be more complex
than necessary, ie, settings for how large or small rooms and corridors
are for example, but as I've had no experience at all working with the
engine (though certainly quite a bit playing it's games, lol!), I'm not sure
on this point.

you can use both cheats at any time.
But you shouldn't need them

there are such things as long shots.
your shells have a range of 1000 metres.
if a target is straight on even when you are just out of range you can if lucky
destroy it.
It requires a bit of practice.
Some things such as the trucks and train in later levels depending on skill
level will move with speed.

Re: [Audyssey] wii, xbox 360 or ps3?

2009-01-09 Thread Constantine

Hi

It all comes down to this.
Do you like sports games? Nintendos got the wii, which also has older games
you can somehow play on it - sega, sness, etc. The xbox 360 you have to pay
for online play. The ps3 has blue ray discs.

Lets see here.

In the previous generation, you had these

The xbox had a hard drive.
The ps2 had backwards compatibility with the play station, not to mention
great fighting games. It also wasn't as big as the x box.
The game cube was meant for those on the go. With a built in handle, light
weight, and small size. Both the ps2 and x box could play dvds, this
couldn't. Most people seemed to think that the games for this were all for
kids, I disagree there, though.

There's something for everyone here. You just have to figure out what you
want.

I can speak for older consoles, there are a lot of games for them that are
sort of accessible, but not quite when you get to the later stages or harder
dificulty's, or some levels you just can't do this one thing.
I wish the 3do had mortal kombat, that would have been neat. As it is there
are hardly any accessible games for it.

Eliminate the wii, is my opinion. There doesn't seem to be too many
accessible games on it, and the xbox360 and ps3 have a lot of them. If
you want to manage online stuff for xbox then you can do it on the web..
but the psn doesn't have that option. So it really comes down to a

of personal preference.

Though the game has one heck of a cool story line, and the ancients are

Well that's what I meant. It won't so much as scare you as creep you out and
seriously disturb you. And the music, where it appears, is pretty darn

make it possible, but that's a style of game I'd love to see made in audio.

Dude, Eternal Darkness is seriously one wicked cool game. It doesn't so
much sscare me as it is unsettling with some of the background noises.
Though the game has one heck of a cool story line, and the ancients are
really cool bad guys. It definitely belongs up there in the top horror
games.

Hi Dark,
You'll be okay eventually in any case. The tough part is the food and
water, for the most part, though money can be a problem at first.
If you get a ruby, as Michael's guide says, you'll have to hike the
considerable distance to Forod to exchange it for ralls, which can be a pain
to say the least, but is well worth the trouble.

Best of luck, and do let us know how things turn out.

[Audyssey] Eternal Darkness was wii, xbox 360...

2009-01-09 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Bryan,
Well, given the fact that Eternal Darkness is so freeky with just the
audio, let alone the vidio, it should be more than possible for an
audio game developer to create a line of horror games along the same
lines as Eternal Darkness. In fact the lack of vidio, all audio, could
be seen as a plus by some gamers. After all what is more terrifying than
being alone in the dark with something evil after you?
Bottom line I guess a lot would depend on the developers skill in
creating a very spooky audio environment. For me the music wouldn't be a
big problem. Thjough I'd need a definative plot, characters, and some
darn chilling sounds to pull a game off that equals Eternal Darkness. Grin.

Try using Excel. Also, you can expand word tables at will so that should not
be a problem.
By the way, loadstone gps is an open source program that runs on mobile
phones. You may want to try integrating it with a game or feed it
coordinates and keep track of where you are using your phone.

I've read the artical on using pins in a pizza box, but I must confess I've
never personally found that method too convenient to work in construction.

I actually got this idea from playing Eamon, which has that really useful

Re: [Audyssey] [Spam] Re: Giving items in fallthrough?

2009-01-09 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi all

As for falthru I've not often gotten that far in the game. Perhaps I
could ask a pointer or two here.
Firstly what's the command for getting water into say a canteen? I've
read the docs but somehow never get it right.
Secondly is it better to stick to the roads, or explore the countryside?
That is to say a direction maybe that's preferable to travel.
Oh and lastly attempting to put something in say a sack hasn't went well
either.

Thanks
Ron

Hi Dark,
You'll be okay eventually in any case.
Zack.

Dark,

Try using Excel. Also, you can expand word tables at will so that should
not

be a problem.
By the way, loadstone gps is an open source program that runs on mobile
phones. You may want to try integrating it with a game or feed it
coordinates and keep track of where you are using your phone.

Hi Phil.

Hmmm, certainly intreaguing, though to be perfectly honest I wasn't even
thinking of something with that level of complexity, I was just thinking
of

a substitute for what a sited person can naturally do with a pen and
paper, or a word file and good aski art skills for that matter.

The best substitute I've found thus far is table creating in word, though
that has a lot of drawbacks, not the least of which is that
coordinates

wise, you don't know how large the map will be, so don't know how large to
make the table, pluss there are no functions such as mapping.

I'm also not sure if the map maker in the gma engine would be more complex
than necessary, ie, settings for how large or small rooms and
corridors

are for example, but as I've had no experience at all working with the
engine (though certainly quite a bit playing it's games, lol!), I'm not
sure

on this point.

Hi Dark,
David could if he chose, separate the map making function from his GMA
game engine and allow anyone to make maps while playing other games.
For example if you have the map maker in one window and switch to a game
in a second window, you could walk along a path in the game, then switch
back to the map maker program and create the same path.
You could even add notes or numbers inserted in the path telling you
things such as went in this room, or this is the entrance to the kitchen.
or trapped a monster in this room.
As you are in the map maker there will be no monsters to attack you.
You could for example map the corridors of Shades of doom marking what is
behind each door and then when you play the game again, use the map
program to guide you as to what to do.
It would be like a physical walk through document but designed to match
the game floor plan.
As I said David could do this but I don't see it as a commercial product,

Re: [Audyssey] [Spam] Re: [Spam] Re: Giving items in fallthrough?

2009-01-09 Thread dark

Hi Ron.

Well, I've solved that much, right now i'm just really getting annoyed
with lack of money to go exploring in interesting places.

I won one battle, but the git didn't give me anything, I can't get the
"agree command" to work either.

But ron as to basic commands, the two things in fallthrough is that for a
lot of item manipulation, the items have to be dropped first.

so, to buy or sell stuff you need to drop the items in the markit, and to
fill a canteen you drop it near the well and use the command "fill cc01"
where C01 designates your canteen.

For moving items around, that's a litle odd, but I've got the hang now.

Commands need to be of the format move from X to y, Z.

So for instance to get something out of a sack, say (as I've been doing
with my hunting), some food to sell,

Move from sack 01 to here 29 food.

mv fr s01 to hr 29 food.

Or, if I wanted to eat instead, I'd say to hand, or to put things into the
sack fr hand to s01.
I must admit the format took a lot of getting used to but I've got the hang
now.

I just wish I knew a better way of making money, sinse todling throm the
hunting spot to or'gn and back again isn't all that
interesting, -especially when I'm only getting about two and a half
ralls for my max carrying load of food.

Hi Bryan,
Well, given the fact that Eternal Darkness is so freeky with just the
audio, let alone the vidio, it should be more than possible for an audio
game developer to create a line of horror games along the same lines as
Eternal Darkness. In fact the lack of vidio, all audio, could be seen as a
plus by some gamers. After all what is more terrifying than being alone in
the dark with something evil after you?
Bottom line I guess a lot would depend on the developers skill in creating
a very spooky audio environment. For me the music wouldn't be a big
problem. Thjough I'd need a definative plot, characters, and some darn
chilling sounds to pull a game off that equals Eternal Darkness. Grin.

Re: [Audyssey] Eternal Darkness was wii, xbox 360...

2009-01-09 Thread Bryan Peterson
You'd also need some darn good voice actors to make it convincing.
Unfortunately that's one area where I've noticed a lot of audio games seem
to fall short. That's one thing you can't afford in a psychological thriller
like ED or Silent Hill.

Hi Bryan,
Well, given the fact that Eternal Darkness is so freeky with just the
audio, let alone the vidio, it should be more than possible for an audio
game developer to create a line of horror games along the same lines as
Eternal Darkness. In fact the lack of vidio, all audio, could be seen as
a plus by some gamers. After all what is more terrifying than being alone
in the dark with something evil after you?
Bottom line I guess a lot would depend on the developers skill in
creating a very spooky audio environment. For me the music wouldn't be a
big problem. Thjough I'd need a definative plot, characters, and some
darn chilling sounds to pull a game off that equals Eternal Darkness.
Grin.

the least to make it possible, but that's a style of game I'd love to
see made in audio.

Hi Dark and Ron,
Yep, command syntax can be a bit troublesome at first. However, if you
take the time and work at it a bit you shouldn't have too many problems.
Moneymaking is another issue. Lugging food back and fourth is one
solution, of course. So's gathering various resources. The way I made my
small fortune was by meeting warriors and just picking interesting
destinations on the signs to aim for. For instance, Slavhos is worth a

Hi Ron.

Well, I've solved that much, right now i'm just really getting
annoyed with lack of money to go exploring in interesting places.

I won one battle, but the git didn't give me anything, I can't get
the "agree command" to work either.

So for instance to get something out of a sack, say (as I've been
doing with my hunting), some food to sell,

Move from sack 01 to here 29 food.

mv fr s01 to hr 29 food.

Or, if I wanted to eat instead, I'd say to hand, or to put things into the
sack fr hand to s01.
I must admit the format took a lot of getting used to but I've got the
hang now.

I just wish I knew a better way of making money, sinse todling throm the
hunting spot to or'gn and back again isn't all that
interesting, -especially when I'm only getting about two and a half
ralls for my max carrying load of food.

2009-01-09 Thread Shadow Dragon
I have to say that's a little odd, all warriors should give you at least 1
rall after you beat them in battle unless they're a renegade warrior, and
you shouldn't encounter those unless you've gone very deep into the forest
east of, Orn I think? Regardless, a tip, if I may:

Possible S

An easy way to beat warriors is to get a knife and spear. Throw each
whenever possible, be it hunting, during battle, whatever, and your skill
will improve drastically. If you hit a warrior, even a very strong warrior,
with a solid knife throw and back it up with the even heavier and more
damaging spear, you can generally weaken them enough to kill them with a
good weapon strike, as long as you have a stirdy melee weapon to use. An axe
might work, though I recommend getting a sword and battle armor at your
earliest possible convenience. Hunting isn't exactly a viable money maker,
though it works, but once you actually get into some dungeon delving you'll
find your fortune literally multiplying.

money from victories with warriors, but the only time I beat somebody in
my last game, I didn't get anything for it at all.

Hi Dark and Ron,
Yep, command syntax can be a bit troublesome at first. However, if
you take the time and work at it a bit you shouldn't have too many
problems.
Moneymaking is another issue. Lugging food back and fourth is one
solution, of course. So's gathering various resources. The way I made
my small fortune was by meeting warriors and just picking interesting
destinations on the signs to aim for. For instance, Slavhos is worth a
visit. It's only 25 legons south of Or'gn.

Best,
Zack.

Hi Ron.

Well, I've solved that much, right now i'm just really getting
annoyed with lack of money to go exploring in interesting places.

I won one battle, but the git didn't give me anything, I can't get
the "agree command" to work either.

But ron as to basic commands, the two things in fallthrough is that for
a lot of item manipulation, the items have to be dropped first.

so, to buy or sell stuff you need to drop the items in the markit, and
to fill a canteen you drop it near the well and use the command "fill
cc01" where C01 designates your canteen.

For moving items around, that's a litle odd, but I've got the hang now.

Commands need to be of the format move from X to y, Z.

So for instance to get something out of a sack, say (as I've been
doing with my hunting), some food to sell,

Move from sack 01 to here 29 food.

mv fr s01 to hr 29 food.

Or, if I wanted to eat instead, I'd say to hand, or to put things into
the sack fr hand to s01.

Hth.

2009-01-09 Thread dark

Well, funny you should say that Sd.

With my new axe in hand and my lamp lit I headed off to slavhos where i
delved into the ruins and met a pharg. I gave him my best knife throw, and a
a good wolloping with my axe, and actually he didn't seem to last very
long at all.

From there I got a key to the treasure room wich netted me 1 gold ikon, 1

bronze ikon, 1 ruby and 3 stone ikons.

The trouble was, try as I might, I couldn't carry the stone ikons out so had
to leave them, an entire 54 ralls!

At least selling the bronz ikon got me 36 ralls which bought me a sword.

I'll now though have to walk to forrod to exchange my 7 rubies, which
will hopefully get me enough to buy some armour (I'm not sure what the ruby
exchange is at the moment, but hopefully it's high).

After that, I should be able to find some more interesting places. I do hope
though I run into pu on the way to forod, that git killed me, and now I
have a sword I'd like to show him who's boss.

If you hit a warrior, even a very strong
warrior, with a solid knife throw and back it up with the even heavier and
more damaging spear, you can generally weaken them enough to kill them
with a good weapon strike, as long as you have a stirdy melee weapon to
use. An axe might work, though I recommend getting a sword and battle
armor at your earliest possible convenience. Hunting isn't exactly a
viable money maker, though it works, but once you actually get into some
dungeon delving you'll find your fortune literally multiplying.

Hi Zac.

At the moment i've just been trying to get enough to buy a lamp.

Now that I have one and some oil, I'll see about visiting some
interesting places, but it does seem damnably difficult to make
money even for something basic. Hopefully now that I've been able to get
the bare essentials in 10 days of hunting, i'll be able to do something
more interesting now. I made the lamp the first priority sinse my last
game ran to 15 days, and then I got felvened to death so had to restart.

2009-01-09 Thread rrhopkins
Hello. This is Ron. I really like the bata version of this game. I think it
has great potential. Was wondering how you get from one room to another? I
notice that it sounds like your walking on sand, and then your on solid ground.
How do I get from one place to another? Was wondering if the mage class will
get better spells in later versions? Also a rogue class would be good too.
