[Audyssey] Free Games Page Updated

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello everyone,
As per request I've started upgrading the USA Games free games page. I'm
going to do a little bit each day until the page has most if not all of
the free games I have up there. Anyway, as of 3:00 most of the former
PB-Games are on the free games page

http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/games.php
and can now be downloaded directly from the web site. The only game I
seam to be missing is Tic Tac Toe which I can't seam to find in my
PB-Games collection. If anyone has it please let me know where to
download it so I can put it up with the rest of the free games collection.
Over the next few days I'll try and begin putting up the links for the
Spoonbill games as well as the games from Lighttech Interactive.

Enjoy!

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Josh,
Well, there have been roomers going on for quite a long time that
Bavisoft is still creating something, perhaps Chillingham 2, but thus
far we haven't got any real solid evidence of this. They aren't the kind
of developer who keeps the public in the know on such things.
As for Lighttech Interactive they are long gone. that's too bad as i
liked there games like light Cars, Light Locator, The Horse Racing Game,
etc. They are fun little games. Come to think of it I'm not sure I still
have setup files for all of their titles so I'll have to check and see
what I still have on hand.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft?

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Bryan,
Definitely. I understand their desire not to divulge release dates,
information about a project in development, but on the other hand they
are too quiet about their plans for the future as well. They haven't had
a release since 2004, and Chillingham appears to have problems on newer
Windows versions. When asked if they plan to upgrade their games to be
more Windows Vista and Window 7 compatible dead silence. That's not
exactly good technical support or customer service in my opinion. What
if I were a new customer wanting to know if their games would work on my
brand new computer running Windows 7?
The problem is made even worse by the fact they do not offer demos.
Therefore some new blind gamer who finds out about Bavisoft may purchase
one of their games, and find out only after it is too late that he/she
got an incompatible product, and that Bavisoft fails to offer upgrades
and technical support. That's a raw deal if you ask me.

Re: [Audyssey] bavisoft?

2009-12-14 Thread dark
On the couple of occasions they've posted on the audiogames.net forum, I
have tried to persuade them that some sort of message, even just a
happy insert festival here and some tech support to let people know they're
stil going would be a good thing, - but unfortunately this just hasn't
happened.

In fact the only times I've seen them reply on the forum are when someone
has had intensively bad shipping issues, - or when someone was
considdering copying their Cd's online as free games, sinse bavisoft
weren't answering perchice E-mails at that stage, and people believed (not
unreasonably), that they had gone bust.

I'll try posting a direct and pointed message to them on the forum,
sinse they really! need to get their act together as far as talking to
members of the public goes.

Hi Bryan,
Definitely. I understand their desire not to divulge release dates,
information about a project in development, but on the other hand they are
too quiet about their plans for the future as well. They haven't had a
release since 2004, and Chillingham appears to have problems on newer
Windows versions. When asked if they plan to upgrade their games to be
more Windows Vista and Window 7 compatible dead silence. That's not
exactly good technical support or customer service in my opinion. What if
I were a new customer wanting to know if their games would work on my
brand new computer running Windows 7?
The problem is made even worse by the fact they do not offer demos.
Therefore some new blind gamer who finds out about Bavisoft may purchase
one of their games, and find out only after it is too late that he/she got
an incompatible product, and that Bavisoft fails to offer upgrades and
technical support. That's a raw deal if you ask me.

Hi Josh,
Well, there have been roomers going on for quite a long time that
Bavisoft is still creating something, perhaps Chillingham 2, but thus
far we haven't got any real solid evidence of this.

[Audyssey] Run feature in games

2009-12-14 Thread dark
Hi.

This is just something which occurred to me as I was out clubbing this evening,
--- ie, abusing various creatures with Q9's big nasty club!

in games, running often served incredibly distinct purposes just beyond the
obvious moving faster, so, you could run and then jump to get a longer jump, or
use the run move to perform dashing attacks.

In many audio games i've seen though, running only moves you forward slightly
faster. While 3D games like shades or gma tank commander make this very useful,
in side scrollers like Q9, superliam and Mota, I actually find myself playing
with the run button perminantly held down, which seems rather odd to say
the least.

If future side scrollers are going to have run features, instead of just
making it a faster walk and effectively having the gamer hold buttons down,
how about borrowing one feature from prince of persia, that of sneak step.

In prince, you ran perminantly, but by holding down a button you could tap to
get single steps, very useful for getting close to the edge of a pit or
lining up a jump.

Of course, it might just be me, but I would suggest unless developers are
going to put in extra features such as running jumps or running attacks,
maybe a sneak step held button to slow down would be more helpful than a run
button to speed up, at least in side scrollers.

Then again, this might just be me, I admit I certainly don't! run through
3D games like shades in the same way.

What do people think?

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

I would prefer a walk as the normal pace. If I want to run, I would speed
it up myself, rather than have to slow down from what is set as the normal
pace. This seems more natural to me, because that's how we move in life.

hmmm.. speaking of the ability to run, what about adding a feature so
when Q9 is running for a short period of time, make it so he starts to
stay tired, breath, and start running a little slow. this whould add a
lot of realism to the game, and it will force you to walk
and not run through every level of the game.

Hi.

This is just something which occurred to me as I was out clubbing this
evening, --- ie, abusing various creatures with Q9's big nasty club!

in games, running often served incredibly distinct purposes just beyond the
obvious moving faster, so, you could run and then jump to get a longer jump,
or use the
run move to perform dashing attacks.

In many audio games i've seen though, running only moves you forward
slightly faster. While 3D games like shades or gma tank commander make this
very useful, in
side scrollers like Q9, superliam and Mota, I actually find myself playing
with the run button perminantly held down, which seems rather odd to
say the least.

If future side scrollers are going to have run features, instead of just
making it a faster walk and effectively having the gamer hold buttons down,
 how about
borrowing one feature from prince of persia, that of sneak step.

In prince, you ran perminantly, but by holding down a button you could tap
to get single steps, very useful for getting close to the edge of a pit
or lining
up a jump.

Of course, it might just be me, but I would suggest unless developers
are going to put in extra features such as running jumps or running attacks,
 maybe
a sneak step held button to slow down would be more helpful than a run
button to speed up, at least in side scrollers.

Then again, this might just be me, I admit I certainly don't! run
through 3D games like shades in the same way.

What do people think?

Re: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Dark,
That's actually something i've been thinking of for a long time.
Although, I wasn't too sure how people would feel about me making run
the default in Mysteries of the Ancients. Although, it seams more people
do use the run command more than the walk command.
A number of mainstream games I play have run as the default movement
command. In most of the Tomb Raider games they have it set up so if you
push up arrow by itself Lara Croft will break out into a run which is
good for fast movement away from enemies, or just to get around the
level faster. However, to get her to walk slowly up towards a ledge,
sneek up on an enemy, you would press the shift key with up arrow and
she'll move slow so she can avoid certain traps, navigate ledges, and
other dangerous situations. All and all it is a rather nice feature, and
in those games walking or running is more a part of a strategy rather
than an option.
Case in point. In Tomb Raider Last Revelation there is a room full of
spikes. You can't run through them, obviously, and you can't jump over
them. However, do to the fact they are spread apart if you put Lara in
walk mode she will slowly step over and around them until she makes it
safely to the other side of the room where she'll find, wonder of
wonders, a lever to lower the spikes. This is a matter of using the
right movement command for the situation rather than simply choosing to
move faster or slower through the game levels. There is a reason for
doing both in the game.
When you mentioned a sneek mode you reminded me of Tomb Raider Angel of
Darkness where this feature comes quite in handy. There is this one part
on the first level where Lara is walking along a ledge, outside this
apartment, when there is this guard standing outside, well, guarding the
place. You can have Lara sneek slowly up on him, and knock him out
before he even knows what hit him. In later levels it becomes harder to
do that sort of thing, but there are plenty of cases where it comes down
right necessary to sneek around crooks, cops, and anyone else you don't
want to spot or hear Lara as she tries to recover the paintings and
clear her name.
I'll be watching this thread to see how many people agree with you. I
certainly agree, this is something I'd like to do, and we will see.

Re: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Hayden,
As I said in my prier post, in mainstream games there are definite times
where a walk feature comes in handy. I often use the Tomb Raider games
as my examples, because they are one of the few mainstream games I still
play most of the time. In those games there are certain traps that can't
be avoided unless you walk. If you run everywhere you are going to trip
one of those traps and, well, game over.

[Audyssey] Looking for Lighttech Games

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi all,
As many of you know I am working on a free games page, and beginning to
upload all of the free games I have to the USA Games server. However,
apparently I have lost all of the Lighttech Interactive games. When I
checked their web site

www.lighttechinteractive.com
I get a web site unavailable message. Either the domain has expired, the
web server is having problems, whatever I have no way to download any of
their games.
So if nobody would mind could you upload their games to sendspace or
something so I can grab them, and put them on my web site?

Thanks.

Hi Charles.

I admit I was thinking more of game mechanics here than realism. It just
seems in game like Q9 running serves litle purpose accept making you move
faster, --- there are no dashing attacks, or running jumps, so why hold
a button down whe you don't have to?

I do take the point though.

I would prefer a walk as the normal pace. If I want to run, I would speed
it up myself, rather than have to slow down from what is set as the normal
pace. This seems more natural to me, because that's how we move in life.

Personally matheus, being forced to slow down like that and do most of the
game at normal pace would get on my whick rather a lot.

If this was added, I would suggest giving some advantage to running,
such as longer jumps or a club hit to compensate for the slower pace the
rest of the time, and make running have a bit more point in the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

2009-12-14 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

What you mention the tomb rader series using sounds a lot like the system
prince of persia pioneered in 1991, which similarly featured innumerable
spike traps throughout the game which you had to get around, as well as
the necessity to sneak to the edge of ledges in order to climb down from
them.

As I said, if longer running jumps or dash attacks were introduced (even
original mario brothers had long running jumps, --- -allbeit with a penalty
of stopping distance), I could certainly see the point of a run mode, but it
just seems that in games like Q9 and superliam, and mota as it stands
now, it doesn't serve too much purpose other than getting you through the
levels faster, which you should probably be doing by default anyway.

as I do in superliam or mota. It doesn't increase enemy frequency from what
I've seen.

Because if you run you often find yourself with more enemies after you than
you can handle. This is particularly noticeable in the Death World.

hmmm.. speaking of the ability to run, what about adding a feature so
when Q9 is running for a short period of time, make it so he starts to
stay tired, breath, and start running a little slow. this whould add a
lot of realism to the game, and it will force you to walk
and not run through every level of the game.

Assunto: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Hi all,
As many of you know I am working on a free games page, and beginning to
upload all of the free games I have to the USA Games server. However,
apparently I have lost all of the Lighttech Interactive games. When I
checked their web site

I get a web site unavailable message. Either the domain has expired, the
web server is having problems, whatever I have no way to download any of

So if nobody would mind could you upload their games to sendspace or

Thanks.

Hi Dark,
I thought the same thing, why not switch the hot keys and in MOTA have right
or left arrow the running speed and shift right and left arrow the walking
speed.
In my Sarah game up arrow starts you running automatically until you get
close to a barrier.

If you want to walk you must use control up arrow.

That would be Core Exiles. I tried it for a while but I sort of lost

It's accessible, has a lot of content and at only 20 bucks a year for a full
account it's well worth it. And if you want you can donate extra money to
the game, even if it happens to be ten dollars here and there. But again
that's completely up to you. But you do get rewards for donating even ten
dollars to the game. Some might regard this as the gamemaster being greedy
but frankly I can totally understand. For one thing Sryth is actually his
job, and I do mean that literally. And in any case he doesn't hold a virtual
gun to your head and say donate or else! The decision is still completely
up to you as to whether or not you do donate. True some content is only
available if you've accomplished certain feats in the game (such as buying a
grand residence), which are sometimes made easier through donations. but if
you really wanted to and were really determined you could go without
donating and still get the most out of it.

Re: [Audyssey] Q Nine Instructions

2009-12-14 Thread dark

hi Bill.

No problem. you can search the audiogames.net database by genre,
including rpg, which might help.

Core exiles is imho one of the best accessible online games ever, and
certainly a favourite of mine, but I won't embark on a major discussion
here. It's a complex game but worth getting into, with many things to do,
friendly players and no pvp.

You can also try Sryth, Kingdom of loathing, Twilight heros Warriors 2 or
metroplexities, all of which are worth a play, and the links to all may
be found in the audiogames.net database.

Metroplexities is particularly fun I think, especially it's battle
system.

There are probably others I've forgotten about, --- -but really there are
many out there!

If you ask for personal opinion I'd say the best of the bunch are core
exiles, Sryth, Metroplexities and kingdom of loathing.

Hi William.

Why offlist? that's what this list is for.

In the Q9 program group on the start menue is a link saying manual
which leads to an html manual with all the instructions.

As a quick guide though, left and right walk, spacebar use weapon, hold
ctrl to run, alt to cycle weapons, up arrow then tap arrows to jump left
or right.

Note that there are several sights where you can find out a lot about
games. such as www.audiogames.net and www.pcsgames.nett which have handy

These are stand alone single player games which use text and have you click
on things, but after S3 was found to be accessible, specifically screen
reader orientated compatibility features were added into S4 (remember to
activate the compatibility mode in the options screen before playing).

These are great single player space games, I'm not sure if you'd call
them rpgs in the traditional sense, but certainly worth trying.

Once again, see their index pages on audiogames.net for more details.

Subject: [Audyssey] Run feature in games

Hi.

This is just something which occurred to me as I was out clubbing this
evening, --- ie, abusing various creatures with Q9's big nasty club!

in games, running often served incredibly distinct purposes just beyond
the obvious moving faster, so, you could run and then jump to get a longer
jump, or use the run move to perform dashing attacks.

In many audio games i've seen though, running only moves you forward
slightly faster. While 3D games like shades or gma tank commander make
this very useful, in side scrollers like Q9, superliam and Mota, I
actually find myself playing with the run button perminantly held
down, which seems rather odd to say the least.

If future side scrollers are going to have run features, instead of just
making it a faster walk and effectively having the gamer hold buttons
down, how about borrowing one feature from prince of persia, that of
sneak step.

In prince, you ran perminantly, but by holding down a button you could tap
to get single steps, very useful for getting close to the edge of a
pit or lining up a jump.

Of course, it might just be me, but I would suggest unless developers
are going to put in extra features such as running jumps or running
attacks, maybe a sneak step held button to slow down would be more
helpful than a run button to speed up, at least in side scrollers.

Then again, this might just be me, I admit I certainly don't! run
through 3D games like shades in the same way.

What do people think?

Beware the grue!

Hi Tom.

What you mention the tomb rader series using sounds a lot like the system
prince of persia pioneered in 1991, which similarly featured innumerable
spike traps throughout the game which you had to get around, as well
as the necessity to sneak to the edge of ledges in order to climb down
from them.

As I said, if longer running jumps or dash attacks were introduced (even
original mario brothers had long running jumps, --- -allbeit with a
penalty of stopping distance), I could certainly see the point of a run
mode, but it just seems that in games like Q9 and superliam, and mota
as it stands now, it doesn't serve too much purpose other than getting you
through the levels faster, which you should probably be doing by
default anyway.

Re: [Audyssey] Sryth was: Q Nine Instructions

2009-12-14 Thread Bryan Peterson
If you're that dissatisfied with Sryth then write to the GM with your
concerns. I personally am still quite happy with the game, and I've been
playing since October of '04. Sryth is not only the first truly accessible
online RPG I was ever introduced to but it's the ONLY one that's
consistently kept my interest in all the time that I've played it. Neither
Kingdom of Loathing nor even Core Exiles has managed to do that. Then again
I'm more of a fantasy fan than a Sci-Fi one so it's not entirely surprising
that I eventually lost interest in CE. But Sryth has always managed to hold
onto my interest. True I do manage to access most of the content but in all
honesty I don't donate all that much and not often. Anyway you don't have to
buy a residence to enjoy most of the game. I just think of the adventures
associated with them as, for lack of a better term, side effects. And anyway
there really aren't many of those yet so you really aren't missing much.

Well, I neither mind donating nor subscribing to a game, --- -with Sryth
though I think it's gone far too far really, sinse now your needing to get
more game content by spending adventurer tocans on things like residences
and the quick stone, apart from the fact that the gap betwene those
who spend a lot of money on tocans to up their gear, and those who do not
(and the corrisponding difficulty of some of the game encounters), is just
growing.

Ce is also a business, and works on the same model as Sryth, in that
you subscribe to get some basic bennifits such as extra fuel, then can buy
game extras. One of their key tennits though is game extras must never
unbalance things, so no fueling your combat ability with power alone.

Also there is no urge to donate to get extra content, as with Sryth
and the quests.

I'm actually rather sad to see where Sryth has gone, being as I
played from 2005 onwards. I admit though, when I start up the game and
told I need to pay At's to access a quest via buying a residence, or
that my melee rating needs to be another 20 points higher which just won't
happen unless I donate even more cash, I decided it was too
much, and that from somebody who has already donated significantly to
the game.

I do drop in occasionally to see what can be done, but not too often
I admit.

If it sounds as if I'm being unreasonable, bare in mind the mechanics. 20
dollars a year, and the game has at least 5000 paying customers or
more, What's the need to squeeze for more money.

Donation bennifits to games should be just a nice thank you, not a
necessity for getting game content.

I have a mind to E-mail the Gm and express my dissatisfaction with the
game at some point.
