Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc was BGT problem!
Hi Shaun, DirectX 8.1 which I use does definitely have the advanced 3d ability. So it is not a limitation of VB6 and DirectX 8.1 but of me. I do not have a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound speaker system and wouldn't have the place to set them up correctly even if I did. So I am perfectly happy with the panning and volume control that I use for my stereo speaker set up. I actually like that people need to down load and install my WinKit.zip file. As then they have the game menu system that I designed and write my games to use. And yes, I guess that eventually we will see if some future version of Windows will no longer be able to run VB6 programs. As I have mentioned I still run programs that were written for Windows 3.1 and they run perfectly. BFN - Original Message - true jim but then the games you do are not 3d advanced systems. Though with the later win7 and up it looks right now you will have to supply libs and such and later on maybe all vb6 stuff will just not run Jim Kitchen's Inc, for games that are up to 110 percent funner to play. j...@kitchensinc.net http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc was BGT problem!
Hi Thomas, The only problem that I know of is that Windows 7 has two different program files folders. Other than that lots of people are playing my games just fine under Windows 7. I am wondering what market I might be concerned with. I have been enjoying my hobby of creating computer games for over 30 years. And yes I very much enjoy sharing them and getting feedback and suggestions, but some market? And I very much doubt that Microsoft would support audio games in the first place. And I wouldn't care anyway. I know that my programming is way off from what is considered business standards. And that is perfectly fine with me as business standards are just so that one can be replaced. You know write the code so that it can be understood by others, so that you can be replaced. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, That is quite understandable given that you are still using XP. However, whenever you decide to upgrade to Windows 7 or whatever comes after Win 7 you are most likely going to have to begin updating your Visual Basic skills to Visual Basic 2008 or later. That's not only where the market is heading it is the only thing Microsoft Windows will officially support in terms of the Visual Basic languages. Many of us are already experiencing problems trying to get Visual Basic 6 based programs running under Windows 7, and things like that are going to become increasingly more difficult as Windows evolves and is upgraded. Cheers! I don't have a problem with the general plot per say, but as Dark has pointed out it is just a little too stereo typical and there has to be something more to it. If we look at this from a historical point of view for centuries women were thought of as week, infurior, and the majority of the romance stories from the middle ages onward put the female lead character in the roll of maiden in distress while the male character was cast in the roll of hero, her knight in shining armor, and the man sent to rescue her from the evil villain. We see this time and time again in movies, video games, books, etc and that kind of plot line is beginning to fall out of fassion with script writers. Many people, men included, are becoming aware of the fact women can be just as heroic, inteligent, and independant as their male counterparts. For example, as Dark pointed out over the last 50 years or so we have seen several women leading characters like Wonder Woman, Lara Croft, Valary Irons, Supergirl, Xena Warrior Princess, etc who have completely reversed and over turned the classic man rescues girl plot line. In many cases it is the women doing the rescuing, or simply pretending to be rescued by the male hero in order to stroke his ego. For example, in the 1970's Wonder Woman television series there were a number of episodes were Diana Prince, AKA Wonder Woman in disguise, pretended to be helpless in order to lore the bad guys into kidnapping her for information. Unfortunately for them she would use her capture in order to gather inteligence about the enemy's activities. Once she knew enough she'd spin around in a circle a few times, transform into Wonder Woman, and kick butt and take names. By the time her boy friend, Steve Trevor, showed up to rescue Diana Prince he'd find her safely sitting in her cell acting as though nothing had happened. Good old Steve would pat himself on the back for a job well done when the woman he is suppose to be rescuing did all the real inteligence work, cleaned the enemy's clock, and is just relaxing waiting for the boys to catch up and figure it all out. It is worth a good laugh now and then. In another case a few years back Pamela Anderson played the roll of a top notch P.I. named Valary Irons on the hit television series V.I.P. In terms of the TV show Valary Irons was suppose to be extremely inteligent, an expert in martial arts, and an expert at fire arms etc. However, when Valary Irons would interview a suspect etc she'd play the dumb blond act, and make the male suspects think she was just another female air head in a man's job or something like that. By the end of the show Valary Irons would drop the dumb blond act and confront the crooks face to face. She'd kick their buts, they'd go to jail or whatever, and it was case closed. My point is if you want to use the man rescues girl idea that is alright, but I just think you could be more creative with the plot line. Women really aren't that helpless, and public

Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc was BGT problem!
Hi Jim, Actually, DirectX 8.1 doesn't really support 5.1 and 7.1 hardware based mixing. DirectSound 8 was actually written for 4.1 stereo sound cards like the Soundblaster Live which was the top quality cards of the late 1990's and early 2000's. However, since most modern cards have 7.1 surround sound support, and the fact Windows Vista and Windows 7 has a fully updated software mixer Microsoft pretty much had to either fully upgrade DirectSound or replace it with something else. They chose to drop DirectSound in favor of a new audio library called XAudio2 which handles 5.1 and 7.1 sound cards, speakers, etc much better than DirectSound. On the one hand Microsoft's XAudio2 3d virtualization is light years better than DirectSound, but on the other hand it doesn't have any simple 2d stereo pan controls etc. So anyone who wants to use XAudio2 to do some simple panning will have to write his or her own 2d pan control using the 3d virtualization like I had to do for OpenAL on Linux. FYI. The other issue with DirectSound's 3d mixer is that it is incompatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7. As you know I've been working on a new 3d engine for the blind, and the biggest problem of using DirectSound is that it doesn't properly render 3d audio on Vista/Windows 7. The reason is that under Vista and Windows 7 there is a new software mixer designed for newer sound cards, which DirectSound doesn't really support, and as a result rendering audio isn't quite the same as it was on XP. Why Microsoft didn't simply upgrade DirectSound I'll never know, but as I said earlier they decided to resolve the problem by releasing XAudio2, and it is now the default audio API on Windows 7 now. As to running older software on newer versions of Windows that really all depends on the software in question. For example, I have a copy of Microsoft Office 2000 around here and I'd much rather use it than Office 2007. Thing is Office 2000 won't even run on Windows 7. I tried and it gives me some kind of runtime error and locks up. I've got several mainstream games here that work perfectly fine with XP, but crash when I try and start them under Windows 7. That's the one and only reason why my wife and I are holding onto one XP box for games. Truth is with Windows 7 a lot of older software doesn't work, but that doesn't mean some older software won't work. Cheers! On 1/17/11, Jim Kitchen j...@kitchensinc.net wrote: Hi Shaun, DirectX 8.1 which I use does definitely have the advanced 3d ability. Re: [Audyssey] Kitchensinc was BGT problem!
Hi Jim, First, a note. You stated that Windows 7 has two Program Files folders. Actually, this has to do with the fact of Windows 64-bit editions vs 32-bit editions. Not Windows 7 vs XP. On Windows 64-bit editions there is the typical c:\Program Files directory where all 32-bit applications like yours are stored. Then, there is the c:\Program Files 64 directory where newer 64-bit applications are stored. Since I am running a 32-bit version of Windows 7 I only have c:\Program Files and no c:\Program Files 64. Re: [Audyssey] Frotz question
Hello Sarah, try this. 1. Launch the game and get to the main screen where it shows the list of installed games. 2. Find the settings button and go there. 3. Tap on File Transfer. It's just below the What's new section. 4. At the bottom of the transfer screen there is a start file transfer server button. Tap that and it will enable it. 5. Just above the button now the screen will display the ip address of the phone. It will be something like http://192.168.1.105:8000 which is of course unique so that is just an example. 6. From your pc, go to the http address on the screen using your web browser. You will see a web page with the games on it. 7. Near the bottom of the web page is an upload button. You can use this to browse for a new game you want to upload. You can give it a description, and upload it. Once done, tap the button to stop the file transfer server. Then tap the done button to return to the main screen and your new game should be there. Hope this helps. On 1/17/2011 1:34 AM, Sarah Haake wrote: Hi Raul, yes, you're right. Hi, I was the person who reviewed the other Simon game. Yes, the sounds can get monotonous, but what I thought was cool was the fact that the other guy wasn't doing it for blind people. It just so happened to be accessible. Not sure about that, there's lots of games I'd love to challenge my sister too, like the maro cart one for Nintendo, but can't because it's way too fast and has no accessibility. I can however do the boling which is always fun. My friend wasn't doing so well so i told her for her next shot to shut her eyes, and when she did amazingly she got a strike. Re: [Audyssey] Really unhappy.
Hi Muhammed, That's just it though. If you want a decent flight controller you are going to have to shell out at least $99 USD for a decent model. Otherwise if you want to go cheaper you are talking about generic game pads and joysticks designed for multipurpose use. Those aren't really designed for flight simulations and what you are trying to do here. Remember the majority of the flight controllers you are thinking of are for serious gamers who want them for games like Microsoft Flight Simulator X which start out at around $99 and go up from there. I haven't seen any cheap ones under that, and if they are cheaper that probably means not enough buttons, no force feedback, no peddles, or some other feature that you probably want to have on a basic flight controller. [Audyssey] Logitech F510 Overview
Greetings List. I've recently received my Logitech Rumble F510, which is the wired cousin to the F710. For owners of the Logitech Rumblepad II, the F510 resembles that model in many respects, except that the mounting apertures for the two analog axis's are circular, whereas the Rumblepad II's sockets are squared. Buttons 9 and 10 also double as analog triggers (see below). The F510 also has a new central button, which I assume functions as the Xbox 360 Guide button. Below is a description of the device: The Rumble F510 resembles the Playstation controller, in that it's a gamepad with two grips that fill a person's palms as he/she is holding the controller. The top of the device is divided into three sections: On the left of the device is the digital directional cross. This cross is a floating design, in that the directional arrows are set on a disc which is floating atop the actual buttons corresponding to each compass point, rather than being inset into the surface of the device. The center of the device has five buttons, plus the two analog axis's which themselves may be buttons. In Direct Input mode (see below), the top left button in this section is button 9, and the top right button is button 10. In X-input mode, the top left button is Button 7, while the top right button is Button 8. The bottom left button turns the analog axis's on or off, while the bottom right button turns the vibration feature on/off. In Direct Input mode, the center button performs no function, and I'm not sure what it does in X-Input mode. Below this central group of buttons are the two analog axis's. In Direct Input mode, the left axis functions as button 11 when depressed, while the right functions as Button 12. In X-Input mode, the analog sticks become Buttons 9 and 10, respectively. On the right of the controller is a diamond-shaped arrangement of four buttons. In direct Input mode, the buttons are as follows: West: Button 1, South: Button 2, East: Button 3, North: Button 4. In X-Input mode, the layout is as follows: South: Button 1, East: Button 2, West: Button 3, North: Button 4. On the shoulder of the device (where one places his/her index fingers), there are two buttons on the top and two dual-purpose buttons/analog triggers on the bottom. In Direct Input mode, the top left button is Button 5 and the top right button is Button 6. The two bottom triggers function as digital buttons, becoming Button 7 for the bottom left trigger, and Button 8 for the bottom right. In X-Input mode, the top left button is Button 5, and the top right button is Button 6. The triggers function as analog triggers in X-Input mode, allowing them to function as accelerators and such in games which support them. On the bottom of the device is a switch that toggles the device between X-input or Direct Input mode. Assuming one holds the controller in his/her hands and moves the switch without turning the device over, X-Input mode is on the right, while direct Input mode is on the left. Mine shipped defaulted to X-Input mode, yours may not. In case your version of windows doesn't have the X-Input drivers for one reason or another, I've included links to them below: Windows XP, vista, and 7 (32-bit): http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/9/4/69446ACF-E625-4CCF-8F56-58B589934CD3/Xbox360_32Eng.exe Windows Vista and 7 (64-bit): http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/9/4/69446ACF-E625-4CCF-8F56-58B589934CD3/Xbox360_64Eng.exe Kai --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Really unhappy.
Hi Thomas, Well, certainly, I would bother to pay £100 or higher if I at least had my own house. Though its hard to avoid. Not to be rude, but we have economic crisis you know, which can be a big problem. Munawar, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have a flyte controller which was for something like $30? I remember you saying something like that. BTw Thomas, I did find some good ones with 12 buttons. So well, we'll just have to wait and see... - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2011 12:52 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Really unhappy. The problem is money. I don't mean this in a pirosy way, but I am not waisting £100 or up to £300. Its not worth it. I don't want the best flyte controller in the univerce, I only want a decent one. Thanks if anyone trys to help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
