Re: [Audyssey] question about raiding enemy
The computer doesn't send everything it has each time, so that is why you are still suffering loses. They will always keep a sizable force in their base, and they send out the extras for raids, as they are made. I think you are right. Many people have had a very hard time with mission 3, and I'm planning to adjust it to make it a bit easier. It's a shame to change it, when other people have been able to beat it, but I don't want to scare the majority of the players away with this new mission. Perhaps I can just start the mission out with more resources. Hi Jeremy, got a question...If enemy raid with 3 soldiers and 1 knight, I believe this is their full force and is quite weak. I launch an attack with 3 types of army and 5 of each, how is it that i suffer so much losts? Is a challenge to rebuilt again and is ok...just like to be clear about it. Btw, did you notice that when you released the last version, the discussions of this game seems much lesser? I guess mission 3 is too difficult for many of them. They feel that is unbeatable and have given up. Looking forward to your new version and I know it won't take you long. haha! And we can always expect something new added in the new release and not just minor changes here and there but is actually still the same thing. [Audyssey] castaway suggestions
There is a big jump in difficulty from mission 2 to 3. Instead of making it easier, how about adding 1 or 2 new missions in between and make this a later mission? Maybe something to get them more prepared is a mission which they have to launch an attack with 5 knights, 5 rangers, 5 pikemen and 5 cavalrys? This is like having to wipe out a more powerful enemy force than mission 2. Not sure if you got my suggestion on setting certain buildings to high priority with backspace instead of just open or close. This way is easier to tell the workers to supply resources or work on a particular building. Sometimes i have to close 4 or 5 other buildings for peasants to work on the 1 i need. 锦发/Steady Goh - Original Message - From: Jeremy Kaldobsky jer...@kaldobsky.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2011 3:32 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] question about raiding enemy The computer doesn't send everything it has each time, so that is why you are still suffering loses. To be honest I thaught mission 2 was harder then mission 3, because trying to keep the enemy at bay while fighting off goblins and building stuff all at the same time is hard to do when your guys only work so fast. Hi Curt, That is not a trophy. If you check the view command, v, you would have seen the object just to the right of the staircase on level one is a bronze statue. As for opening the statue here isa spoiler. s p o i l e r Go down the staircase, move right into the room with the fire pit, jump the fire pit, and continue right until you reach a rope. Go down the rope and walk left until you find a bronze lever. Pull the lever and run back to the rope, climb it, jump onto the ledge, and run left until you reach the staircase. Go up the staircase and walk right andpress enter on the statue, and it should open. Keep in mind though that locks are timed and if you don't reach the statue in a certain amount of time the lock will reset and you'll have to repete the process. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] mota beta 22 thoughts
Hi Thomas, I myself do own not all, but many mainstream Star Trek games. But regarding sounds and music I allways have wondered why the Borg do not have their weapon sounds in any known Star Trek game. Correction: the borg ships in the Star Trek Armada games do have one weapon sound from Voyager and one other from First Contact. But the weapon sounds from the final Voyager episodes were never present, even if the stardates given in the Armada games suggest that their stories would have been placed within seasons six and seven of Voyager respectively. Also I never got why Star Trek Legacy never had canon music and sounds considering that it was the only game to span all Trek Eras. Moreover Elite Force 2 is the only Game I know of which has proper sounds of a Borg ship, but the moving or dying Borg drones in both Elite Force games are a total disapointment in comparison to canon TNG and Voyager episodes. What I like to know is, what you would have gained if you bought a license to make commercial Trek games from the owners. Would you have gotten a complete sound library including for example all the weapon sounds used in DS9 like the great explosions and the weapons of Dominion ships and a fully undisturbed wormhole sound? I ask this, because I know many Trek games (mainstream) and even they do not have all the interesting sounds while they are licensed products. -Also I'd like to know what source you used for the Defiants pulse phaser sound in Final Conflict, since I know the Defiant (I have the entire DS9 DVD set) and in most instances the Defiant's phaser sound is not like the one you placed in Final conflict. And lastly I'd like to know what sound packs for Final Conflict you know of or have yourself, because I know only one such mod and I allready have that, but I haven't made one for myself up to now. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Why I want older versions of the games
Hi Thomas, I'd like to ask a question about this. First there was (in name and title, not content whise) Montezuma's Revenge. After Beta 6 or 7 you altered the name to Montezuma's Return up to the final Beta 9. Finally the last version which could have been Beta 10 was named Mysteries of the Aztecs Beta 1. This version could be bought and some people got registration keys after they bought. I am one such person who got a legal key to unlock the unfinished version containing six levels. Since you said whoever was offering the game (which version?) as a download, would be violating laws, so the one would have to stop offering it as a download. This might sound a bit strange, but does this mean that I who bought a key from you (the company USA Games) would not be allowed to have a copy of the game and that I also would be not allowed to use (play) the game in any form - at least officially and by law? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] mota beta 22 thoughts
Hi Thomas, you are probably right in thinking that atempting to make Lone Wolf into a Trek simulation could be harmful to the original game. However, Isn't the game Counter Strike a Half Life mod or something like it (at least in the beginning)? And such big mods have been around for ages in the mainstream sector. If they are good from the developer's standpoind is something totally different, but I just want to say that they exist nonetheless. Also, not all, but some science fiction game mods are there to make crossovers between series/genres. If they are good, or well thought out or even balanced is another story of course. But Because there is only One half made mainstream Stargate game out (as an example), there are Stargate mods for Star Trek and one Star Wars game. Surely, making one of theese games directly would be better, but such mods are often created when no one makes a game many people would like to have. Since many players aren't programmers themselves they couldn't do it themselves, even if licensing and prices wouldn't be an issue. So, they adapt what's easier to change, like the sounds of Lone Wolf or for an example Super Liam with the Max Payne sounds, music and story. I liked that one, but I also would feel better if I had Max Payne as an audio game, or the original with accessibility features, which it doesn't have. And lastly one final thing about mods. Games with long campaigns or missions often at least allows user mission creation, even if they are stand alone mini maps (often for multiplayer in mainstream games, but not allways limited to multiplayer). Of the audio games there not many of them bring their own mission tools. There's Dyna man and Lone wolf for example. Of course, Sound RTS and the Topspeed games allow modification in the form of new missions in the former and new cars and race tracks in the case of the latter (same for Rail Racer with new tracks). But nothing to expand all the games like Shades of Doom or the two ESP Pinball titles. The Original (Alchemy) Montezuma's Revenge was supposed to have a map creation tool either released with the game directly or at least afterwards. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions
That's a pretty good idea, but for the short term I'll just make it easier. If I get around to adding more missions, it does seem like a good idea to insert them between the current missions 2 and 3, and then put mission 3 back to being the original difficulty. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to handle the priority settings for the AI. I've tried a few different methods, but so far I haven't been happy with any of them. 锦发/Steady Goh --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions
Good point Brice. Depending on the playing style and strategy of the individual players, missions that are hard for some people would be simple for others, and the other way around as well. This game allows for such differing strategies, there is really no way for me to really know how easy or hard a mission will be for everyone. To be honest I thaught mission 2 was harder then mission 3, because trying to keep the enemy at bay while fighting off goblins and building stuff all at the same time is hard to do when your guys only work so fast. And then to have the Yetti's come down from the mountain and star killing in injuring all your people really makes it tough. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Something that makes it particularly tough for me is that the enemy deliberately seeks out new building projects and destroys them. [Audyssey] Castaways version 1.8b
I've just uploaded version 1.8b that has several fixes people have been asking for. To make mission 3 a little easier, I've started you out with 4 metal and 2 tomes. This will allow people to build a barracks sooner, if they so desire. The tomes will help diversify the strategies since people will likely spend them on different kinds of units. The messages that mixed up cavalry and pikemen should be fixed. The soldiers still automatically train since I haven't figured out how I want to handle doing it manually yet, but they should be smarter about making that choice. When battling enemy soldiers in mission 3, your troops will now make smarter choices about which to fight. If there are a few enemy types close by, your people will tend to attack the ones they stand a better chance at fighting, and avoiding those they are weakest against. Lumberjacks are now fixed for when the resources run out on the map. Instead of vanishing forever, they will bring back logs from outside of the map just like other job types do. Starting a new game should correctly reset the time counter so that enemies in mission 3 don't attack you sooner than they should. Monks should be fixed so that they do their primary job before working secondary jobs. Upgraded people can no longer get pregnant, so this should solve the situations where upgrades were lost after having a child. A few people running jaws 8 were having trouble getting the game to load, and I think I have that fixed now. I've added in some sounds that play as you arrow across the map. The sounds are a quicker way to identify rocks, trees, and even enemies. I don't have any sounds for buildings yet. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] mota beta 22 thoughts
Hi Michael, The only thing licensing the Star Trek trademark etc would have done is allow me to create the game for sale. That would not mean that Paramount would send me a cd of sounds. For sounds I would have to license and purchase them separately through a redistributer. That's how companies like Activision acquired the sound effects they do have for their Star Trek games. As for the Defiant's phaser sounds in STFC I grabbed it out of a desktop theme. I think it was called Star Trek Defiant. It played that sound when sending items to the recycle bin, felt it sounded close enough, and added it to STFC as the Defiant's phasers. Re: [Audyssey] Why I want older versions of the games
Hi Michael, That's not what I meant. The people who originally purchased and downloaded the game are allowed to keep the versions they downloaded provided they do not share it with anyone else. As I am no longer legally able to provide downloads for said title that extends to you guys as well. If you have a copy go ahead and play it, but don't redistribute it over the net to everyone else. Its the continuing to redistribute copies over the web despite a court order barring redistribution that is the problem. For three separately named titles? And might I ask, why James North had not encountered such problems,? I mean, he announced the release of such a game and had he not stopped it and given it to you, he might have later released more than a two level demo. And I have forgotten how it was called exactly, but I am sure to have seen another PC version of Monti (for sighted players) or at least a Monti clone which you could still buy after your Monti got shot down with no problems. Re: [Audyssey] question about raiding enemy
The main difference with Mission 3 is the steepness of the build-up of the strength of the enemies. Given the story, it would make sense that the party should be better organized than the first two, perhaps with more settlers to begin with and more resources. I wouldn't change the difficulty too much, though I don't know if anyone has beat it on normal yet; I certainly haven't. But the second mission was perhaps too easy, so this makes up for it. I don't think I've ever gotten a game with over 32 population, the increase rate seems very slow, even when I make darned sure I have an extra house in play at all times. Even with the premies and sweat shop chosen, I'm still just not generating population very quickly. Is there something I should know that I don't? Having multiple extra houses will have a big impact on the pregnancy rate. Many of the players who talk about populations in excess of 100 will build several extra houses so they are always far ahead of their current population requirements. Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions
I imagine it's quite hard for the AI to know what should be prioritised at different times of the game. Every1 plays differently. So I think if we have the ability to manually set a building on the map as their priority to give supply of resources to might work better. 锦发/Steady Goh - Original Message - From: Jeremy Kaldobsky jer...@kaldobsky.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, August 26, 2011 1:45 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions That's a pretty good idea, but for the short term I'll just make it easier. 锦发/Steady Goh --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Michael, I honestly don't have all the answers to your questions. Why James North didn't get in trouble for using the Montezuma's Revenge name may have been purely luck. Bad luck for me and good luck for him. It also may have to do with the fact I changed the title from Montezuma's Revenge to Montezuma's Return which I didn't even know existed and got the attention of someone from Utopia who didn't appreciate me using the Montezuma's Return name. As for weather or not James North would have created more than a two level demo I guess we will never know that. I know I created six levels for the game and was planning on 11 before I got shot down. None of that is particularly my falt. In any case rehashing all that old news is counter perductive. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] castaway suggestions
You might be on the right track with that idea. I'll admit, while searching for the solution to these priority problems, I've been pretty much ignoring any solutions that would require me to totally overhaul the existing AI. I think many of us remember back to when the alternative jobs were first coded in haha! The original AI was designed very well for what it was intended for, but because it wasn't part of the original design, the idea of secondary jobs had to be patched in in a somewhat sloppy manner. I've gone through it several times to clean things up, but it will never run as nicely as it did when it was following the initial design. In that same way, if I have to fundamentally change the AI again, it would require another sloppy patch job that would end up introducing about a hundred bugs I'd need to fix. I'm avoid that if at all possible. I imagine it's quite hard for the AI to know what should be prioritised at different times of the game. Every1 plays differently. So I think if we have the ability to manually set a building on the map as their priority to give supply of resources to might work better. 锦发/Steady Goh --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi tom, It's allowed, cause Raymond Grote from the game talk list gave me pipe1.0 and, through through the wayback machine got troopanum1.5 and 1.1, but not 1.0. Also, please don't ask me to use the wayback machine to get hunter, cause they don't have that page archived. Also, Raymond was able to give me pipe1.0 since Justin said it was alright even to email me and give it to me. The games are redistributable because of that and because the games aren't available anymore. Hi Lenron, To my knoledge the latest MK game is only for the game consoles like Play Station III, XBox 360, etc. I haven't heard of a PC version. As for it working with Jaws its a mainstream console game so it doesn't work with Jaws or any screen reader. You have to memorize the placement of items in the menus in order to play it. Hi Bryan, Yeah, those summer colds do tend to linger forever. Once they get a hold on you they don't want to let go no matter how much medicine and antibiodics you take to get rid of it. This has been the cold from hell as it has been beating me up pretty good. Cheers! On 8/25/11, Bryan Peterson bpeterson2...@cableone.net wrote: Wow. I just had a summer cold myself. Re: [Audyssey] mota?
Hi Joe, If you are talking about the Super Mario Brothers clone created by Dragon Slayer games there isn't an official download site for that game. Although, it is now abandonware I don't see any reason it can't be discussed on list. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] looking for older titles
Hi Jack, I think we are talking about two different issues. I have no problem with you downloading older versions of Pipe, Hunter, Troopenum, whatever. If its ok with Justin its fine with me. What I do have a problem with is you downloading a copy of montezuma's Revenge or Montezuma's Return when I've specifically told people not to redistribute that game in any, way, shape, or form over the net without my approval. It appears someone is passing it around again and that has to stop. HTH On 8/25/11, Jack F mymonkeyboy2...@gmail.com wrote: Hi tom, It's allowed, cause Raymond Grote from the game talk list gave me pipe1.0 and, through through the wayback machine got troopanum1.5 and 1.1, but not 1.0. Also, please don't ask me to use the wayback machine to get hunter, cause they don't have that page archived. Also, Raymond was able to give me pipe1.0 since Justin said it was alright even to email me and give it to me. The games are redistributable because of that and because the games aren't available anymore. And personally, I consider to have the hunter 1.0 since I like the small setup files and the unpacking process the most since I find it really usefull. Hi John, Sure. If you want to send me your recordings go ahead, but at this point I'm not sure that there is a bug per say.
